Apple TV3 local media streaming

i'm having trouble streaming my local iTunes library, it took too long when the internet goes OFF ! when the internet ON everything works great ,this is strange since i'm streaming my (local content) ! why do i need internet ?  i'm using apple TV3 macbook pro and Airport base station,no matter what i do i get the same result , hanged the router used different Mac and even different Apple TV ! .. it took like 6 seconds to load a movie from my library when i'm connected to internet but took 30 seconds ! .. please help

I've noticed it more and more these last several days.  It's with any audio.  I use a digital audio connection, so might try to isolate that.  It's not super frequent at least the way I'm experiencing it, but it is annoying, especially when watching movies.  I didn't have a problem like this before when I first brought it home, but maybe I didn't notice it.  I'll try it out for a few more weeks and if it doesn't improve I'll call AppleCare.  Going on a trip this week and won't be using during that time anyway.  Thanks!

  • TS3623 Apple TV3 will not stream movies

My Apple TV3 will not stream movies and it takes a very long time for music to stream from my MacBook. I readjusted the resolution settings and it was the same thing. It gives me an "error occurred loading this content; try again later" message after spending several minutes of buffering after I try to play movies.
I have high speed 15 mbps Mediacom internet, which has never had any issues. I called Mediacom and they said my connectivity was excellent. I have reset my router/modem/AppleTV to no avail.  My homesharing is on and I have followed all other recommendations I could find on Apple forums concerning this same issue.
I am going to return this product for a Roku if I am not offerred a solution on the matter.
Apple, I hope you realize this is not an isolated incident.

From where? Internet or local iTunes library?

I appreciate your frustration, but remember we are fellow users here, and you are not talkingto Apple support directly.
If you are connected via wifi try using ethernet if you can to rule out a wifi issue.
My AppleTVs are very stable with internet or LAN streaming 99% of the time, but since yesterday they have all behaved oddly - weird!

You have answered my question, thank you so much, I've just plugged in and found out that a direct connection will actually work via ethernet, but it works as Airplay mirroring and itune home sharing
No you don't need to use AirPlay from the computer to AppleTV.
Just use the AppleTV as you would with wifi. Everything is controlled from the AppleTV.

The thing is if i wanted to travel with my apple tv3. and have browser that works with it with out anyother divice i would be able to watch episodes i missed or even wanted to see with simple logging in to the website of the network and stream it from there.. What i wanted to ask is, is there anyway to do that if i dont have . computer, iphone, ipad, ipod or anyother divice with me to mirror or airplay to the apple tv.

The Apple TV doesn't have a browser and doesn't allow you to add your own features.

  • Apple TV3 photo stream not displaying newest to oldest

This has been really frustrating me.  My Apple TV 3 photo stream is configured correctly.  I can see my photos.  There are 628 photos in the stream.  The first four photos have a title at the bottom that says "Photos From Last Week."  Then when I scroll right, the text says "Photos Older than Two Weeks."  However, instead of letting me scroll through them newest to oldest, the first photos are the OLDEST photos, so if I want to see photos from the last month, I have to scroll all the way through hundreds of photo stream photos to get to the newest photos.  Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
    Thank you,
    Frustrated

First make sure iCloud and Photo Stream are installed on your PC. Connect the iPad (or iPhone) to your PC with the USB cable and start iTunes on your PC. Once your iPad/iPhone shows up under "Devices" in the sidebar (which you may have to enable), click it. Then click "Photos" at the top of the iTunes screen on your PC. Check the "Sync Photos from" box, and then under that, click "Selected folders." (Ignore the pulldown menu to the right of "Sync Photos from" -- the important thing is to tick "Selected folders.")  A pane should open up below that with a list of folders including "Photo Stream." Choose that and then at the bottom of the screen click Sync. This worked for my Windows 7 box.

  • Apple TV3.. biggest Christmas dissapointment ever?

    Hi all,
My wife got me the latest apple TV for christmas, I was totally excited, my Mac that I used to use as a media server went pop a few months back.
I am a bit of a film and music fanatic and have been collecting for yearrrrrrs.. last year I Backed everything up to digital copy because I physically didn't have enough room to collect any more. most of my movies DVD are now in Divx format.
what I'd hoped to be able to do was stream my movies and tv shows from the NAS however it turns out that this doesn't seem to be an option with apple tv...Please Please Please tell me I'm wrong!
I was at a friends house and he had an equivalent system from a competitor( Don't know which one) that was able to stream anything over his home network + many other features that seem to be lacking on Apple TV... It Just seems really really moneygrabbing, obstrucive and limiting of a great piece of design to restrict people with a "buy from us or we are going to make your life difficult" attitude..but it's what apple does I suppose..
I'm not going to transfer files into another format. but what I want to do is take this back to the shop and exchange it for something that is user friendly.. Don't get me wrong I generally Like apple products but this one *****, there seem to be plenty of others at the same price point that do a whole heap more...
Please someone tell me I'm wrong.. If not I'll swap a Brand new Apple TV3 for any other system that will just work as a decent media hub..
yours exasperated, frustrated and really disappointed Ben

Apple TV access iTunes shared lib it does not matter if the iTunes lib is on your nas mine sure is
or on the internal hd or on a floppy disc
turn off the computer with the shared iTunes lib and you can't get anything
apart from accessing the shared lib on the computer running iTunes one can mirror ios devices such as iPads and iPhone and iPod touch and newer macs which video card support realtime compression into a H.264 stream
DivX is not a supported format really also it's a bit of an old crummy codec
the Apple TV has the same cpu as ios devices which have build in hardware decoding of h.264 so it require less power to display them
here are the video codecs supported
    Video Formats
H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High or Main Profile level 4.0 or lower, Baseline Profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Apple TV3 Wifi problems

Hey. Can anyone help me? I apologize if anyone thinks that this has been discussed several times before on this forum. But I can unfortunately not find answers to my questions.
Have from July 1 tested Netflix on my Apple TV 3 with some problems. The stream runs perfectly until I suddenly get the error message "A problem occurred while playing this item. Try again later". I have to press the menu button and load the content again.
I have tried the following to correct this error. Cut the power to the modem and my Apple Timecapsule which I use as my wifi network, and then power cycle again. This has been without success. Have obviously the last update and have double checked several times to see that I have the latest version of Apple TV3.
I've tried to go into the "iTunes Store" and then change from 1080i to 720p and then to standard definition without success. Something  that really should not be necessary since I have both a modem and  timecapsule that is not older than 1 year old and bought new. And the internet speed should be more than enough. Speed of my internet line is 30mb./15mb. My 8 month old Apple Timcaspule the Internet signals coming from standing 3-4 feet in a straight line towards my Apple TV 3.
I also tried to disable the power cord to my Apple TV3 wall and then wait 60 seconds and start up again without success. Worth  noting is that I can not remember that this error has occurred on my Apple TV3 other program selection / apps than netflix.
When I see content on Netflix the media is not loaded in advance to the timeline as it always gets done on youtube. But that's only because the media content is much larger than any of the youtube media, or what? There were no changes on this when I change from 1080i to 720p or standard definition.
I have found several articles about Apple TV that I'm unsure about dealing with my version of Apple TV3. Please see these articles:
    http://9to5mac.com/2013/04/15/apple-says-small-number-of-apple-tvs-have-wifi-iss ues-opens-replacement-program/

    http://www.appletvhacks.net/2013/04/16/apple-replacement-program-apple-tv-3-wifi -connectivity-issues/
If the third and fourth position are right, I have not this error. But if the fourth and fifth position, I have this error. Can anyone confirm with 100% certainty what is right? Has anyone here on the forum contacted Apple to investigate this?
How can I find out if my problems caused by this bug? I can of course be wired between my Apple and Apple TV3 Timcapsule to see what happens. What about pressing reset to factory settings? Have any other suggestions? Is there software to determine where the fault lies?

  • Is there a cure against apple tv3 being unable to open videos or music from itunes library?

    HI!
I recently bought an apple tv and was trying to playback video and audio files on it.
activation of homesharing has been rather smooth (although i did have to open and close itunes several time). apple tv3 is able to download the library and lets me surf it.
my problems start when i attempt to open more than one video/song (one after another of course). It shows this circle which indicates download but does nothing. i'm able to exit from this screen but any attempt to open any file afterwards brings me the same result - running circle/star with no playback.
i read support info on the apple page and have followed more or less all recommendations, starting with allowing tcp/udp ports, making sure taht itunes is not on firewall, disabling power management on my  wireless adapter, etc.
the most exciting thing is that i have the same problem if i run remote app on my iphone and/or ipad - it stops seeing itunes after a while. at the same time if i pair my ipad/iphone with itunes manually (using 4 digit password) it works smoothly.
tech specs: latest itunes running on win 7, latest software running ipad/iphone/appletv. connection over wifi.
i assume there must be a bug in the way itunes communicates with devices in the apple ID related homesharing. otherwise i can't explain why remote app works smoothly with itunes library in password pairing mode.
Has anyone faced anything similar and found a cure against the problem?
I hear different opinions re firewall, antivirus software (i use kaspersky). i'm not  technical guy but assume if those pieces of the system allow to play one or two songs and then freeze, i don't think that the problem is in those pc.
WOudl be grateful for constructive feedback, hopefully with an easy solution:)
P.S> airplay from ipad, itunes, iphone works perfectly and without glitches.

Is this happening when playing from iCloud or locally from iTunes on your computer?  If it is from your computer is the computer going to sleep?  There is some bug in ATV that causes it to have problems being able to wake a computer that has gone into sleep mode.  Some times it works fine and then sometimes for like a week ATV will not be able to WAKE the iMac.  This can also be a problem if you are using an external hard drive and the hard drive is going into sleep mode. Also is iTunes running.  If iTunes is not on then ATV can not connect to get content.

  • Use as a media streamer?

I have a 'spare' 1.66ghz core duo mini.
I am trying to determine if I could use it as a media streamer to my TV.
ie I want to use the rascal for external services like netflix and amazon...
    Some questions:
    1) My cable connection is a nominal 4mbs/sec. Is this adequate bandwidth for
Watching movies from netflix? The mini would be connected to my lan
    Via 802.11g wireless.
    2) I can attach the mini to the tv via a mini dvi to hmdi cable for the video but
I am not clear on how to handle the sound. I don't want to install an audio
processor and I am not sure I can get suitable audio from the headphone Jack.
I have a wd tv live for showing local video, and it works fine for that task.
    Any suggestions?
    Jerry

Your mini should have a full sized DVI connector if it is the 1.66ghz Core Duo model. A DVI to HDMI connection should work well, depending more on the settings offered by your TV. For audio, see if one of the HDMI ports on the TV has a set of audio inputs paired with it. If so, that is the one you should use to connect your mini, and you can easily use a stereo 3.5mm (1/8") to stereo RCA (phono 'red and white') cable to pass the audio to your TV. You can also use digital optical input if your TV offers that paired with an HDMI input, but if your TV only has 2 speakers anyway, this may not be necessary.

  • Apple TV3 wireless no longer works

I bought an Apple TV3 back in March 2013 and no it no longer recognises my wireless signal so can't connect to my network and therefore can't be used properly. I can still stream movies etc. to the device via my iPad so it can receive a signal but just doesn't seem to be able to pickup the network on its own accord?
Any thoughts or do i just need to get it serviced? I thought an Apple product would be able to last longer than 18months!!!
    Any suggestions appreciated  :-)
    Andy

    Restore it.

  • ITunes and other media streaming

    Hey all,
I have recently acquired a new sound system, a set of B&W 685 speakers, a NAD receiver, and an external DAC. Currenly I use my airport express to stream music from my laptop (macbook pro retina) to the system, but unfortunately as my itunes library grows larger I am running out of space on my laptop.
What I am looking for is a solution to store and play my music from an external source through my sound system, preferably controlling it with my phone, and not having to turn on my computer every time I want to listen to some music. Based on that explanation it does sound a lot like a SONOS Connect with an external drive/NAS connected to it. But wait, there is more.
Additionally I would like to run a USB from this "solution" directly into my TV, thereby being able to display my media content (pictures and movies) that are stored externally directly on my tv. I know that D-Links Boxee Box is a great media player, but does it work to play music if the TV is turned off?
Please feel free to leave potential solutions to my conundrum and help me to build the "perfect" apple media streaming solution, where all data is stored and played from an external source.
Budget vise I am don't feel like spending more than $600 - $800, so keep the propositions within that budget.
Apple proucts used today: Iphone, MacBook Pro, and Airport Express.
    Thanks guys !

Did you ever get this solved? I'm actually having the same problem. I've moved my library from old mac to new mac and everything is fine with the exception of the purchases. any time i try to migrate them into itunes, it crashes.

My apple tv3, serial no. C07JWBZ9DRHN is not powering on.  Connected with Computer, with micro USB cable with power on, it is not shown in Devices.  How to rectify

You have to remove all cables before connecting to your computer with micro usb. Power is only connected when using a 3rd gen device and done after the initial connection.

How do I reformat itunes tv shows copied to my external harddrive so I can watch them on my tv through my media streamer (like I do with my other downloaded movies)?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

  • Media Streaming Problem

My z10 is not working well. The media streaming between my Sante Fe and z10 doesn't appear to be working. I downloaded the latest OS and I believe that it's since then that i've had the problem. The phone is paired with the car fine. The phone works through the car speaker system..... but my map app and music won't play (the car says "no media"). I've been to the dealership because the car is under warranty and the service manager was able to connect his android fine (played music). I then went to my mobile service provider and the service rep came to my car and he couldn't get it working either. He suggested this site. Anyone know how to correct this? Thanks

    Hi Matthew
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Those sites are driven by Adobe Flash.
Make sure you are using the most recent plug-in, which is version 10.0.12.036. You can determine your machine's version here. If you have an earlier version update the plug-in. You can do so here.
Whether or not you have the most recent version, go to your Applications>Utilities folder and open Disk Utility. Select "repair permissions". You'll probably see Flash items being repaired.
When complete, close DU, then restart Safari and try some Flash videos.

  • Maximum bitrate and size for Apple TV3

    Hello,
how much is maximum bitrate and file size for Apple TV3 homesharing? I transfared some bluray, but it lags. Im streaming via cabble.

No official answer on this but specs say:
AppleTV 2/3 have less than 8GB of memory to buffer movies but there are movies over 8GB and I've certainly streamed larger than that.
    What lags?  Playback?  Stuttery display?
