Apple unable to deal with simple ftp problem.

Leopard 5.5 will not allow me to upload ftp to my website. Web development using a MAC just leaped to the dark ages. Any help out there. What are these guys doing?

AFter I moved from 5.4 to 5.5 I noticed that I was not able to upload files to my website using transmit (FTP). I checked worked with Transmit people, Hostgator people (Sever), and Apple. I can upload with a PC. I can connect using at least 6 different FTP Programs. I can download with them all, but I can upload with none. It stalls and sometimes leaves the title of the file, but empty.
I have talked with Apple twice and they say there is a problem... but have no clue what to do. With no hope they will do anything.
I have tried archiving Leopard and starting over... the only thing I have not tried is wiping the drive... I just got a new macbook and hoped it would work... not so... again Apple is clueless.

Two Apple ID's: Dealing With It

Here's a means to deal with the 2 Apple ID problem. It's not necessarily a solution; it's a message to Apple.
Background: The old MobileMe, iTunes, and iCloud accounts do not get along. This is because iTunes used one Apple ID for purchases, and MobileMe another, which was always the @me.com or @mac.com email address.
Along comes iCloud and it insists that the @me.com adress is its own Apple ID, and al devices and iCloud apps or content services must and can only sync to a device running that account. This does not mean you cannot use your content from the old iTunes Apple ID on your device if it is authorized, but many push, sunc, in-App opurchases, or auto-update featreus cannot work unless you make the effort to log-out of your iCloud Apple ID and log-in to iTunes with your iTunes Apple ID.
This 2 Apple ID confusion is maddening. Originally .Mac/MobileMe were Mac-only service with no relationship to iTunes. Since iTunes was a broad service extending into the world of PC's and Windows, it did not tie its accounts (Apple ID's) to a specific Apple-generated email address. this is probably why @mac.com was replace with the less Macentric @me.com.
Here's a way to get the message to Apple that this transition is creating all sorts of problems for those with older iTunes and .Mac/MobileMe Apple ID's:
Using iTunes, log in to the Apple ID you DO NOT WANT in the future. This will be the Apple ID with the email address different than the one you use for iCloud. Duoble-check.
If you do not have an iTunes account with your iCloud name then you are safe and free to make one that is identical. Stop reading any further.
Once you've logged into your iTunes account (which is just the account attached to your Apple ID), go to Purchase History.
Identify all purchases in an invoice (each sepaarte line item is an invoice) and click Report a Problem.
Always choose the LAST item in the pulldown menu. This is the catch-all, generic problem.
Type in (or modify as you see fit), then click Done. Repeat for every paid item:

I did this on a trial basis and recieved a transfer. I have now reported all 400 paid items from my non-iCloud account witht the above request. It took a bit of time, but I feel it may achieve what I require.
It only works with paid items: apps or media content. Anything free or an in-app purchase does not work and will bump you to a webpage. For free items find your email invoices and print those, then re-download them again.
But here's the catch. Apple has to respond to every one of those requests. If an app costs $0.99 then Apple takes $0.33. responding to every "Report a Problem". For every $0.99 app will use more labor costs than the app made for Apple. Same for songs.
Apple offers great products and services, but this ping-pong game with .Mac, MobileMe, iTunes, and now iCloud is a major problem because it diminsishes the capabilities of our invested hardware when we cannot sync across Apple ID's. The most loyal Apple customers were those early adopters who, like myself, find we cannot utilize all our apps and content because we cannot combine Apple ID's.
This method may not work or work for everyone, but it sends a message that there ineed is a "Problem", triggered by iCloud's implementation.

I seem to have two Apple ID's attached to my e-mail.
An Apple ID is a valid email address, apparently. How can those be "attached to your email"... what email?
Facetime will not verify my e-mail address because it is associated with the other account.
This doesn't make sense. You can register multiple, even non-Apple-ID, email addresses and their aliases with FaceTime.
So, maybe you can explain your problem better - what you want and the steps you've taken and what you have so far. If something doesn't work, please tell the exact error message, too.

Best way to deal with Storm 9530 problems?

Hi there,
i'm having numerous problems with my Storm from freezeups to random reboots to an inability to connect via USB (Windows reports a problem with the connection). Before I replace the phone I thought I would restore the phone to factory defaults to see if that solves any problems.
Is that the best way to deal with these problems? Can someone please point out the best way to backup my data (given that I can't connect via USB anymore) and restore the phone?

Need help with simple mask problem

hi there this is mark from superbooty a band that has played in the bay area for over 10 years...
i was wondering if someone could help me with a Motion2 problem i'm having regarding masks.
i'm working on this simple animated scene of a car going by a beach - the photo is from the passenger side and shows the outside mirror.
i'm moving the background (different from the original that came with the car) and i want to move an image of tokyo inside the mirror housing too.
i figured out how to do the mask but when i try to animate the image of tokyo the mask layer moves with it. when i lock the mask i can't move the image - ???
there's got to be a way to lock the mask but be able to move what it is masking..

Adam's solution is the one I'd use - put the mirror contents in a layer, mask the layer, then manipulate the mirror content image. Did this solve it for you - if so, please click on the or buttons over posts as appropriate...

Macs still unable to deal with WMV files without a paid for app

This is just really embarrassing stuff from Apple. I love the hardware, but the software is Stone Aged. What's gone wrong with Apple. It's like there's not been any software progress in 10 years.

"WMV" stands for Windows Media Video. Apple is not associated with Microsoft Windows.
So if you want to deal with this type of Windows file on an Apple product, look for a third party solution.

Apple won't help with iTunes freezing Problem!

I just spent ove 37 minutes on the phone last night with Appple (I don't) Care telephone support. The rep couldn't help me and would not transfer my call to a supervisor because "Supervisors do NOT talk to customers." I'm at a loss. I can't believe I paid for the Protection and Service Plan. I've always been a fan of Apple but now I'm about ready to buy a PC. Can anybody help?
I am running OS 10.3.9 on a G4 machine with 768 MB SDRAM. I downloaded the latest version of iTUNES. I Restored my iPOD twice. (I have a 30 GB Video iPOD). I tried transferring songs over 30 or less at a time. iTunes still freezes. WHen it does freeze, I can't stop the update, I can't Force Quit iTunes and I get stuck with the spinning beachball of death. I actually have to hit the power button to turn of my machine and start over from scratch. I'm about to give up and return my iPOD. Who else has had this problem and did oyu ever get it fixed?

There is no damage to repair. iOS 7 is operating within expected parameters.
The fact that you dislike the new OS is not something Apple "needs" to fix. Personally I like the new design.
iOS 7 has been out for almost a year. If you did not know what it was going to look like before you updated by now, then its all on you for not doing your research.
And really the colorful icons are your main issue, what are you 5 years old? Seriously grow up.
Find a yellow note taking App in the App store and move on.

First time dealing with Greenshift/Gamma problem in Quicktime/Safari

I've been editing video on a Mac and in Final Cut Pro since version 2 (I am transitioning to Adobe Premiere Pro so don't judge )and this is the first time I've had a huge problem with a shift in color from what I see on the canvas to what is exported - and the first time I've noticed that that problem/shift only happens when the footage is viewed in an Apple program (Quicktime or Safari when uploaded to Vimeo). Opening the footage in VLC or viewing the upload on Firefox? Looks gorgeous. But on Safari or Quicktime? Colors are muted and have a greenish cast.
In doing some research, especially on various Adobe forums, I've learned that this is a scarily widespread problem (and learned the term 'QuiRktime') so I'm suprised I haven't had this problem before - it may be due to the lovely taupe/grey outfits, skin tones, etc that I got to shoot.
The footage is for website/computer usage so looking at it on my monitor should be a good indicator. And I've had others look at the Vimeo upload and some have commented on the green cast (so are probably Mac people too...).
So I'm not sure what to do - how best to give it to the client.
Workflow: footage is ProRes HQ, shot in 1080, shrunk to 720 to make 'artificial second cam close-up' (don't ask...). Edited in Final Cut Pro, but I've been going back and forth with it in Adobe Premiere Pro to try and tweak the picture color and contrast, as I've been liking the filters in Premiere better than FCP lately, but had some pre-built items I needed to use in FCP as I haven't gotten around to re-building replacements in After Effects.
I've exported it as ProRes and used Adobe Media Encoder to compress (been using both the Vimeo 720 preset - and tried upping the bitrate, setting quality to max rendering - and the Broadcast 720 preset).
Only time I've gotten it to look good when opening on Quicktime is when I export it as Animation versus ProRes, but the resulting file is 12X (and thus 12GB) so too large to upload or burn on disc (and compressing it for web usage from that file gives identical results to simply compressing the ProRes file in the first place or exporting directly from Premiere Pro to h.264)
So my question is...what is the best way to export this footage to get the right color cast in Quicktime based computers and non-Quicktime using computers.

The footage is for website/computer usage so looking at it on my monitor should be a good indicator.
It actually doesn't matter where the footage will end up. The idea is to see the image accurately while grading, and for that you will need a calibrated, external TV. You just can't use a normal computer monitor or software media players for this.

Simple FTP problem

I'm trying to post the test page (and associated CSS page) that I mentioned earlier. But, I'm doing something wrong with the way I've defined my local/remote in Manage Sites. The new files are supposed to go into a subfolder at this location: www.keithpurtell.com/kthings/
However, when I "put" the test page and css, it is not going into the kthings subfolder. The two files are instead arriving one level up, outside the kthings sub-folder. Here is what I show in the remove server definition:

Aha! Success! Thanks to your two tips. Now I want to diagnose problems on this page. One at a time; I don't want all the answers to every flaw you see ... I want to work and try to figure out most of this myself. Please ignore the attempted fly-out navigation links at top left for now (I'm looking at this in FireFox by the way).
What about my images? You can see how I handled them years ago; putting them in boxes so text would flow around them. I turned on the borders so you could see that. Obviously they are not indenting 140 pixels like the text. I tried placed the first image/table inline the paragraph, but that obviously failed. Comments? I'm still reading Eric Meyer's book ("Cascading Style Sheets/The Definitive Guide"): Maybe I just need a pointer to the right chapter?

Having issues with Simple FTP configuration

I am attempting to set up FTP behind this new CISCO ASA 5510 we just bought. I haven't configured a cisco device in 5 years, so I am having issues., i think i am close, but need a little help to get me over the hump. If I FTP from outside (fixed) IP it connects and takes the password but hangs on PASV and gives no data connection below is my configuration. Can anyone help? I am hoping it is simple since I seem to have the connection inside correct. and yes you can connect to the FTP server from inside without issue.

I am hitting the FTP server behind the firewall as you can see from my first log... It dies on PASV which is why I thought I needed that FTP-Data.

Another stupid thing, there are so many apple authorized reseller here who offer applecare but again applecare doesn't work in my country. Apple hasn't put my country on the applecare service list. Not even my provider can help repairing my iphone 5 camera. So what's my guarantee thing for? really?
Since i got my iphone 5 for two months, the camera started indicate some problems. It starts with blinking screen, it turn pink and flickering then freeze. It was still on iOS 7, so i thought by updating will help solving the bugs problem. I have restore it too, nothing really works. Now my camera just a total pitchblack screen that i cant operate anymore and even my flashlight stop functioned too now...

My phone worked for a maximum of 5 minutes, before lsoing signal. Disabled LTE and it works perfectly. Spoke to some Samsung mates and they had the same problem.

Trying to deal with a recurrent problem regarding my one year old Macbook Pro

I have restored my hard drive three times and already took my Macbook Pro to a check up where it got supposedly repaired... What should I do? I don't download anything odd and I haven't the slightest idea of what's going on... Help would be appreciated.
But really, I freak out everytime it stops turning on and today it shut down on its own, those error reports aren't getting me any help either and I am a clueless sixteen year old girl that had less issues with her 2007 Windows... Or maybe I'm just freaking out and get too scared because this thing cost me and my parents quite a lot.

Take the computer right back to the repair shop for them to fix it like they should have done in the first place. You should have gotten a case number. You should not be charged for the repair work under the same case number. Were the original repairs done under warranty? Do you have Apple Care? If yes to the above, call Apple Care and explain the situation to them. Or Call Apple Customer Relations (1-800) 275-2273. Wait for a human to come on the line and ask politely and firmly that you want to be transferred over to the Customer Relations department.

How do I resize pinned tabs/deal with tab group problems in Firefox 22?

With the automatic update to Firefox 22, my pinned tabs have ballooned in size; not only does this look horrible, but it reduces the real estate available for other tabs. While NoSquint has sorted the issue with websites randomly resizing themselves, everything else (add-on menu, toolbar icons) has also increased in size, which affects what can be displayed.
Another problem with 22 is that my tab groups are no longer behaving normally: I click on one group and another group moves around the screen, typically jumping behind the original group I clicked on. Any suggestions for how to improve these problems are much appreciated.

if you want to set the text size/pixel density in firefox different from that of your system's settings like it was handled in prior versions, enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''layout.css.devPixelsPerPx'''. double-click it and change its value to '''1.0''' (or any other zoom factor that fits your purpose; 0.8 equals 80%, 1.15 is 115% and so on..., -1.0 is the default value and will adhere to the system settings).

Dreamweaver patch to deal with new IE problem?

Ok, well I think we're all understanding the fact that
Microsoft lost a lawsuit and has implimented this
click,enter,spacebar to activate anything added with
<object><embed>or<applet> tags. So, as designers
and developers, I believe most of us have found the javascript work
around and are either using Macromedia's suggested solution from
the devnet article or have come up with our own similar solution
(as I have and will be happy to share with anyone interested.) Now,
seeing as it appears this problem is here to stay with IE, my
question, or suggestion, is will Macromedia come out with a patch
for dreamweaver to help streamline this solution? It seems to me
like it would be easy enough to edit the way the flash(shockwave,
quicktime,etc.) button in dreamweaver works. Whereas now, you press
it, select your flash movie, and it adds it with object and embed
tags, with this patch it would generate the appropriate javascript
file and javascript code for placing the element in the html. Is
this something that is in the works or is being considered? I think
it's a step forward into the global solution of this
problem.

How to deal with video card problem on Thinkpad E420

thinkpad E420 has GMA and a Special video card ATI READON HD 6630
I installed Archlinux and xf86-video-intel
then I go to the AMD offical web site and download video driver for linux64bit 11.8
after I installed it
I cannt login
and report me the gnome was crashed

Maybe not out of the woods yet. I ordered a new video card and installed it today in slot 1 after removing the original one. When booting up I thought I was pressing the PRAM reset but had mistakenly held the "control" key down as well. Needless to say - no monitor start-up.
After restarting a couple of times to no avail I realized my mistake and the next time correctly held the CommandOption+PR keys but interestingly it took a couple of restart chimes before it correctly brought up a gray screen. I then didn't release the keys in time and the next restart chimes the monitor stayed black - after one or two more continuous restart chimes I got the gray screen and everything booted up OK. I no longer have an error message for PCI Cards at System Profiler.
But given that it seemed that the PRAM reset didn't consistently activate a signal to the monitor, I am a little anxious that I have been chasing the wrong problem - that maybe it's been a PRAM or other problem all along and not necessarily the monitor. I do have that case where the System Profiler gave me an error message for the PCI Cards selection under Hardware in System Profiler, but I'm left wondering if problem solved.
Any easy way to debug PRAM - where is PRAM data stored?
I will report back if I get another black screen on restart or wake up...
