Apple Uncompressed with BlackMagic codec installed
We have a problem with files that are in the Apple Uncompressed codec when the Black Magic codec is installed and wonder if someone here has experienced that?
With QT Player the movies plays fine but the name of the codec is empty in the info window. The sentence look like this:
", 720x576..." when it should say "Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2, 720x576...".
We tried to enter the Metadata information with a QT developer tool (Dumpster) and the info displays correctly in the info panel inside QT Player.
This doesn't make it better in Shake though, where we must enable "Force8bit" in the FileIn-node. If we don't do that we end up with a black picture or on some computers a perfect noise with some shades of contours.
If we uninstall the Black Magic codec we get the perfect picture in Shake but still the meta data is gone inside QT Player. We have also tried old versions of the Black Magic codec, even that old we had to flash the cards with old firmware so everything looks to point toward some QuickTime or System update. The files worked fine in november and hasn't been touched or moved since.
Anyone seen this?

Yes, there seems to be an issue with blackmagic codecs and shake.
On our PowerPC computers, removing the blackmagic codec from the quicktime folder seemed to solve the problem.
But on our Intel machines, nothing seems to fix it. 8 bit footage always has digital noise. If you click the force 8bit button, it looks fine. But when rendered out using a third party plugin (The Foundry's Furnace plugins) the noise comes back.

BLACKMAGIC CODEC INSTALL question
stupid question: I was provided with the blackmagic codec so i can work with uncompressed quicktimes but I don't know what to do with the .sit file. ANyone?
The .sit file was compressed using Stuffit and you'll need the free Windows version to expand it.
The .sit file is a compression format kinda like .zip but proprietary to Stuffit Expander. A Google search should help you find the download. -

I assume you are running the Windows installation using Apple's Boot Camp, not a "virtual method" such as WMware Fusion, Parallels Desktop, or Virual Box (where you run Windows in a virtual machine under Mac OS X).

Can't see video in an Avid Meridien Clip with codecs installed.
Hey all, any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's my issue. i have two computers described below, both have many avid codecs on them i'll list those below too. Neithe of them can show a clip that was exported out of an Avid even with the codecs installed. The Clip's details say that it's codec is the Avid Meridien Compressed, Integer (Big Endian), it's dimensions are 720X486 and it says a channel count of 2
When i try to show this clip in FCP or in QT, all I see is a white screen.
Any ideas??? i need to get this into FCP so i can export it to make DVD's really soon.

Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.4.7) 2.6 Ghz, 1 Gig of Ram, 250gb Hard drivelast I heard, the Avid Meridien codecs were not yet fully supported on the Intel Mac platform ... but workarounds have been reported in the past
the latest codecs Version LE 1.40, are dated March 23, 2007 and may be worth downloading if you have not already done so
that installer puts the following quicktime components into Library/Quicktime:
- AvidAV1xCodec.component: Avid 1:1x codec (Uncompressed MXF 8-bit)
- AvidAVd1Codec. component: Avid DV 100 codec (MXF)
- AvidAVdnCodec. component: Avid DNxHD codec (MXF)
- AvidAVdvCodec. component: Avid DV codec(DV 25 and DV 50, OMF and MXF)
- AvidAVpkCodec. component: Avid Packed codec (Uncompressed MXF 10-bit)
- AvidAVDJCodec.component: Avid Meridien Compressed codec (OMF 8-bit)
- AvidAVUICodec. component: Avid Meridien Uncompressed codec (OMF 8-bit)
in the past it has been reported that you then need to remove the following two components:
AvidAVdvCodec.component
AvidAVpkCodec.component
i've also seen reports that say you just have to pull the the AvidAVUICodec so go figure
if the latest codec pack does not work as is, then try removing those two or just the one ... or a different combination altogeher. probably worth a shot -
CS3 Mac: No Uncompressed 10-bit codec available
We have a roomful of machines here with the CS3 Suite on them, as well as blackmagic codecs installed, and Final Cut Studio. The Blackmagic codecs are available to us, but Apple Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 does not appear available to us to render with in After Effects. This is a huge problem because our clients ask for this codec (not blackmagic or aja, specifically) as as delivery spec. We've got other problems dealing with this codec in the Apple suite of tools as well, but that's a separate discussion for Apple forums. This has been driving us mad for weeks now!

Adolfo! Removing Blackmagic and AJA from that folder allowed UC10B to show up!
However, I notice a strange anomaly - If I have neither AJA or BMD in the folder, I get "Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2" available to me. If I put AJA *back*, I get "Apple FCP Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2". How bizarre? How do I know which setup to use?
I guess in theory you have solved my problem. Though now it presents a new one - How to get blackmagic *and* apple FCP available at the *same time*. I think I will have to ask Blackmagic support about it though.

Apple Uncompressed 10 Bit 4:2:2 for After FX7
Hello All
I work in a post product digital facility and we have currently upgraded our department to After Effects 7.
The G5 workstation run on Mac OSX 10.4.8 and have a mixture of Aja Kona and Blackmagic cards.
However we would like to render out Quicktimes to the generic Apple Uncompressed 10 bit which is usually featured in After Effects, but is no longer available as option in either After Effect 6.5 and 7 since we upgraded.
Qucktimes are rendered out from After Effects and then they are layed off to tape via Final Cut Pro.
Please could you tell me where i can download the generic apple uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 ?
Once codecs are imported where are they stalled is it in User - Library - Preference....somewhere?
Also does anybody know how to import a generic Apple Uncompressed 10 bit codec into After Effects7, is this done through interpretation rules.txt * refer to attached jpeg.
Furthermore how can we import codecs into After 6.5 to use?

i-choiAIC is an Apple QuickTime codec and is only available on Apple platforms. It is an all-iFrame format and is normally used for high def video (HDV and AVCHD). FCE automatically transcodes HDV and AVCHD video into QuickTime/AIC when you capture/ingest the video from your camcorder.
AIC supports 16:9 aspect ratio, 8-bit 4:2:0 and can handle variable data rates. Supported frame sizes/rates are 720p30, 1080i50 and 1080i60. There is a bit more info in this article: Final Cut Pro 5: About HDV and Apple Intermediate Codec.
You asked this question in the Final Cut Express Forum. FCE can't use 10-bit 4:2:2 video, nor can it use Apple ProRes. For 10-bit 4:2:2 suppport you would need ProRes and Final Cut Studio. -
I am trying to install a registered copy of Photoshop Lightroom that I never installed on my Apple iMac with software version 10.10.
I get the message “Adobe Lightroom 1. Cannot be installed on this disk because a newer version of this software already exists on this disk”

I have ordered the upgrade to Lightroom 5.0 and figured that I should install Lightroom 1.0 first.
How can I solve this problemActually when LR 5 starts for the first time after it is installed it will have a dialog to Buy, Try or Enter a serial number. You select Enter a serial number and enter the LR 5 serial number first and then because it is an upgrade serial number it will ask for the serial number of a Previous version. You then enter the LR 1 serial number.

I setup 2 Mac Minis, 'setup in a no-apple id. Now with Mini1 I installed a shared printer from Windows7 Pc it ask for credentials then I input Adminstrator account and the password ticking the remember in "keychain"
I run a test print and its seamless. I reboot the Mini1 and run test print again and its good.
Now in Mini2 I did the same installation on shared printer but it is asking for user credential again and again, there is a check mark in "remember in keychain but still gives a notice that "requires authentication" I put the admin creadentials same with Mini1 then it prints.
every time I print on Mini2 its always asking for a user & password before Printing. How can we fix it.
I tried
- lpd printing = "authentication required"
- reset printer settings ang re-install printer = "authentication required"
- replace sharename in windows7, reinstall printer in Mini2 = "authentication required"

My son and I both have iphones with the same Apple ID. Since I installed iOS this morning I have started receiving all my sons texts and when I send him a text it is delivered to both of us. How can I remove my phone from the joint Apple ID and remove myself from finding out what he is up to during Freshers week!

Apple Mobile Device Suppurt not installing with iTunes 10.6.3
Hey guys, any help with this would be much appreciated., I had an issue a couple of days ago where I couldn't reinstall the latest itunes (10.6.3) I have now managed to install this current version but with one major problem, Apple Mobile Device Support didn't install with it. I tried everything, I've tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling it again with and without the anti virus turned on, I've tried a system restore, I've tried using an old version of Apple Mobile Device Support, and still nothing.
My itunes keeps saying this whenever I plug in my iPad, "This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64bit version of itunes" I've done that, it didn't work, however, itunes has managed to install successfully on my desktop pc, which is Windows XP, with apple mobile device support, but the machine I'm having trouble installing itunes with Apple Mobile Device Support on is my Laptop which is running Windows 7. I doubt this is a problem with my laptop, the system restore I did confirmed that, and the issue only returned when I tried reinstalling the latest itunes.
Is this problem with Apple Mobile Device Support not installing with the latest itunes a bug? i hope so, because I've read up ways to solve this problem but alot of it gets too technical and I'm not the most technical person when it comes to computers and all that.
Is anyone else having similar problems, if so, how did you solve it?

I don't really fancy the idea of doing anything that involves my registry because knowing me I'll end up screwing my laptop up for good lol
It's a little more involved than just doing a standalone AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi install, I'm afraid. The relevant drivers in AMDS are not digitally signed for 64-bit XP, so you have to force XP to accept a driver install that it would try its damnedest to not do. There's no driver issues for other 64-bit componentry in the installer package (I think the GEAR drivers install on XP 64-bit systems), but I believe there's still a bit of fancy footwork involved in getting them installed too ... although it's been a long time since I've looked at an instruction set, and I might not be recalling those things correctly. (So if you're not comfortable with system modifications, it might be best to steer clear of the Orca-based techniques ...) -

Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen. -
