Apple Update software clobbers reinstall of iTunes

Hi all,
I am having an issue the has escalated over the last day or so with iTunes. I attempted the upgrade to 7.3 and began to encounter an error in which the Apple Software Update screen would open in iTunes and I would get the Visual C++ Runtime error that has been mentioned in other threads. There were no updates showing in the Update window, but as soon as I closed it, iTunes would not respond and I would have to close the application.
I am now at the point where I have completely uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime to see if that has any effect on the situation. I now get an error message that states "The older version of the Apple Software Update cannot be removed. Please contact your technical support group." Seeing as how I am the technical support group, I am now turning to more wizened advisers for some help on this matter. I have tried renaming the "Softwareupdate.exe" file as well as the file folder "Apple Software Update" to no avail so I am at a complete loss as to what to do next.
  Windows XP Pro

This seems to a a problem with the Apple Updater program. If you rename file C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update\SoftwareUpdate.exe to say C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update\__SoftwareUpdate.exe or any thing else the problem seems to go away. Then after iTunes has started you can close iTunes, and return the file to its original name and everything works fine.

  • No Update available of IPhoto via apple- update software

I currently have Iphoto 9.1.4  and Lion 10.7.5. I like to update IPhoto to the newest version that also supports ICloud. Via the regular Apple->update software no updates are found however (while newest version is 9.3.2). I downloaded version 9.3.2 from support site but it refuses to install, and claims i should use the regular upgrade via apple--> update software.  I have a regular mac-air 13 inch baought with all sw pre-installed.
Does someone has simular issue and found a solution ?

    AppStore, u[dates, installation button.
Some packages do not go through auto update.

  • Apple application software required to run iTunes?

I'm having some issues here. I tried to open itunes and it says "Apple application software not found. Apple application support is required to run itunes. Please uninstall itunes, then install itunes again."
So I did that. iTunes would open but when I connected my iphone it wouldn't work. Then I got a message that said "itunes.itl cannot be read because it was created on a newer version of iTunes." So i tried to rename the file and that didn't work.
But then I was having some more issues with my computer (the fn buttons weren't working) so i did a system restore to before I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. I have looked at the forum and tried a couple different things and none of them have worked. I tried opening itunes.exe with winrar and that didn't work. I have an Asus with a Windows 7 64-bit operating system.
So if you can help me it would be greatly appreciated. You should also know that I am not very good with computers so please make your instructions relatively explicit.

I fixed it! You have to uninstall every apple program on your computer though. All of them. Then you have to reinstall iTunes. If you get the iTunes library.itl message use the link below.
    This link helped me
    http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_I_fix_this_issue._ITunes_Library.itl_cannot_be_ read_because_it_was_created_by_a_newer_version_of_iTunes
My iTunes folder was named just iTunes library so I renamed that to iTunes.old then updated it and it worked!

  • Apple update software for windows 7 X64 ultimate

so apple support update pops up and says "HEY! YOU HAVE UPDATES!"  for quicktime and itunes.. problem is when i tell it to update the window just flickers.. it will not update, nor will it let me manually update quicktime.. i previously fixed itunes as it also had an issue letting me manually add/remove itunes.. i barely got that fixed.. but i can now manually update itunes.. however i need help locating all the files for apple support update software so that i can re-install it, and perhaps the same information for quicktime, as again i cannot manually install or remove quicktime period right now..
nothing shows up in ccleaner, pc clean up or even when i run sfc /scannow in cmd..
i'm so tired of dealing with these problems.. some help would be awesome.. thank you.

okay so after a lonnng day.. this is where i remain stuck: my apple software update says i need too update too 11.1.3 and i already have it installed.. if i tell it too install it'll go through the downloading and installing too just end up back too the same screen telling me there is a new update out.. what file is the updater not seing? augh.. and why do these forums not have a delete option?

  • HT4972 i don't have the message of 'update software 5' on my itunes

    Hello
I would like to update software 5 to my ipad, i have not found any message from itunes to let me download the updated one.
    Please advice.
    Yours faithfully,
    Arunee

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

    Copied from your previous post.
You are right the Iphone is locked into the carrier softbank from Japan and its not the 3g model its the one before it, I am not sure what model.
If your iPhone is not the 3G model - it is the one before that, this means your iPhone is the first generation iPhone or the original iPhone, which WAS NOT sold officially by Apple in Japan. The first generation iPhone was sold officially by Apple in the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T, in the UK as carrier locked with O2, in Germany as carrier locked with T-Mobile, and in France as carrier locked with Orange and as officially unlocked by Orange. The ONLY country where the first generation was sold as officially unlocked was in France, which is required by French law.
The original iPhone - the one before the 3G was not sold by Apple in Japan directly or through Softbank.
Did you purchase your iPhone from Softbank or from an Apple store in Japan ? If so, this would also mean your iPhone is carrier locked with Softbank since the iPhone is sold in Japan officially as carrier locked with Softbank only, and this would be the 3G or 3GS, not the original iPhone. This would also mean you are roaming internationally with Softbank with your iPhone in China. If you are using a SIM card from a carrier in China with your iPhone, your iPhone has been hacked to be unlocked unless you purchased your iPhone from an unofficial source in Japan which was sold originally as new officially in France as officially unlocked by the carrier Orange in France.
Is your iPhone is carrier locked with Softbank in Japan, are you paying Softbank international roaming fees while using your iPhone in China?

  • Lost Apple dvd software after reinstall

After a Lion bad dream, I decided to go back to Snow Leopard.
Only way to do it was to completely erase HD and clean install.
Which I did. All painfull step by step.
Only to find that some marvelous little software I had installed on the HD at purchase time are gone forever.
Like, for instance, the simple Dvd reader app. It was simple. Worked fine. Can't find it anywhere...
Can anybody tell me where to find back all the stuff that Apple had put on my HD at factory that isn't on the dvd's that we buy to reinstall ?
    Thank you in advance !

Originally, it came with X.2 or something like that.
I bought Tiger afterwards and last year Snow Leopard.
Do you suggest I should have made the clean install from 10.2 and then all the upgrades ?
Could it still work to use these (10.2) dvds without doing the clean install process ?
Thanks for such quick answers !

  • Cannot remove older version of Apple Update to reinstall Itunes, tried control panel, no help, what do I do

Message: "Cannot remove older version of Apple Update" when trying to reinstall Itunes. Tried using add remove programs in control panel, no help. Tried installing new quicktime, same message -- what do I do to get Itunes working again on my computer, using Windows xp

I'm glad I put a smile on your face Stuff like this can drive me nuts.
As I went to bed last night, I thought the same thing as you, to try a system restore. Otherwise, to answer the rest of your question, in XP, the location of the Update is in your Program Files/Apple Software Update.
To find the hidden files that may be stopping you from disabling the updater, and doing a clean install, go to:
My Computer, and on the Menu bar, click Tools/Folder Options/View/Show Hidden Files and Folders/click Apply/OK then double click on your main drive (C:)  then Documents and Settings/your user name/Application Data/ and delete the Apple computer folder with it iTunes and Preferences.
Also in that previous views Local Settings/Application Data/Apple (Update Software)and also Apple Computer/iTunes.
Go back to Documents and Settings (again from C: drive mode) click on All Users/Application Data/Apple and if you open up Installer Cache, you will also see that it has an Apple Updater in it (unless it was uninstalled on the original uninstall). Also from that Application Data window, you will see Apple Computer Folder which has previous iTunes info that needs to be deleted. Some of these folders may be gone, but at least you can check to see, to make sure.
Here is a link from another post, to confirm or help clear up any of my paths/solutions.
When you've done all that, restart your PC, and I would run CCleaner  (the free version links are just below the Buy and Download button) just to clean things up, and try your re-install.
    Hope I didn't overwhelm you.

  • ITunes 5 Won't Install -- Hangs on Unscheduling Apple Updates

    Windows 7 64bit
Trying to update from last version to new version. Install goes until it hits the part where the dialog box says "Unscheduling Apple Software Update," the green bars goes a partial way, stops, retreats. Another dialog box appears and says "There is a problem with this Windows Installation Package. A program required for this installation could not be run. Contact..."
Then it backs out and reverts to the original/last iTunes version.
Tried disabling AV and Firewall...no joy.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanx!

using MSICUU2.exe didn't help me.  But,  the new replacement app did:
      http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
I fixed my problem like this:
    Here's the deal -
    1.  can you install itunes via the APPLE SOFTWARE updater?
I couldn't  so I downloaded ITUNES and tried to install it that way.   Hence  I got the same error hang as you.  Nothing worked,  (Multiple attempts at uninstall reinstall,  stopping of Services,  Reg cleaners  etc..)
    2.  If answer is NO to #1 you must fixe the APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE Program.
OK  so I couldn't find a Download for this.   But:  if you have WINRAR,  open the ITUNES.EXE and extract the APPLESOFTWAREUPDATE.MSI file.  Execute the APPLESOFTWAREUPDATE.MSI separately.   And you will not be able to install it and have a similar issue as per your Itunes install.   This of course leads you to believe that the Itunes.exe  install is also installing all of these components including the applesoftwareupdate silently.   It must BOMB at that portion of the install and you are done.
    3.  Your goal now is to get the applesoftwareupdate installed.   How do you do this.  Well -  here is what I did.
      a.  downloaded and RUN a PC  Installer FIX it tool from Microsoft.  This is a replacement for the older MSI fixer they used to use.
      http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
    b. It will list programs to attempt to fix.
      choose  AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
    c. Once it is done,  then reinstall apple program updater using
    AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
Finally it should install since the Microsoft tool appraently fixed corrupted installation files in your registry for this application.
(Please note:  that I also disabled any apple related services such as BONJOUR or IPOD DEvice RUN:  services.msc to get there -  although this man not be necesarry.)
Hence Launch this APPLE UPDATE SOFTWARE (Click the ICON in your Start menu)  it should list ITUNES
select ITUNES from here and it will update.
KEY HERE is to ONLY UPDATE APPLE Stuff via the APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE program.  If that program is not working fix it.  Then Bingo.
I am sorry to see folks having this problem for weeks.
APPLE,   Spread the word.  PC's can get corruption in the registry on your product should the update be stopped or computer shut off during an update.  etc...   Please improve your software updater program to check for invalid registry upon launching the app.  This will prevent people thinking it is an APPLE issue.  It appears to be a problem on your PC's registry settings for the APPLE Software update.

  • HT1444 I have a Mac OSX Version 10.4.11 and i want to know how to update software. Also i have Itunes 8.2 how do i update that?

I have a Mac OSX Version 10.4.11 and i want to know how to update software are i have itunes 8.2 i want to know how to update that as well

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether further updates are required.
You should now see the App Store icon, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
