Apple updates not functional

Imac core 2 duo running snow leopard 10.6.8. Tells me about uploads (airport, java and itunes, I think), then downloads, then cannot install due to "unknown error". Always. Even if I try one at a time.  Happens every time, for a week now. How do I stop this?

"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I would recommend you use the Accounts System Preferences to create a brand new user. Then log out (you can use shift-Apple-q to log out without the Apple menu) and log in as the new user. Does the Apple menu work for the new user? If so, then your user has a preference file or setting that's causing the problem. If not, then you have a system-wide or hardware issue. Let us know what you find out from this troubleshooting step and we'll try to help from there.

  • Software Update Not Functioning Properly

I'm trying to update iTunes. When I run Software Update, I get a window that pops up that has two windows over eachother.
The underlying window is the one that normally says "Show Details", Not Now, or Install. But I cannot install the update because above that, the only choice I have is "Your software is up to date. Software Update doesn’t have any new software for your computer at this time." and my option is "Quit"
The update is there, I just can't get to it because Software Update refuses to give me any option.
    Any ideas

If you mean iTunes 9.0.3, what version do you have now? In any case, you should be able to download the updater here:

  • App Store updates not functioning

App Store says I have updates but is blank when I am on the update page

    From Demo:
If you are getting the blank app update screen, and, many people are having this problem over the last several of days:
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. Apple needs to fix this. It is a workaround only until then.
    Or try this from Apple:
I understand that your App Store does not show your app updates. Please follow the steps below to help resolve the issue.
    1. Close All Apps on iPad: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    2. Sign out of iTunes & App Stores: Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Tap AppleID > Sign out
    3. Reset All Settings: Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    4. Reboot iPad
    5. Sign back into iTunes and App Stores: Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Sign In with AppleID

Hi, I have tried all of the above. None of these work even in safe mode. Have run system readiness tool numerous times and I still have the same errors. I have gone into the registry, but cannot determine what the issues are for these keys.
I would like to avoid reinstalling the whole OS. ( I have many apps to reinstall )
It seems like after an automatic update sometime in Jan or Feb, this happened.
I have seen many posts in various forums online about Wupdate having issues.
I am very surprised that MS has not resolved this issue or has a simple fix for correcting registry corruptions. ( being an MCSE from Win 2000 and NT )
The last system restore point is only a week old. I do have a system restore point from 8/10/2014.
If I use this older restore point, will it affect my apps and/or personal files?
Is the restore point just OS files?

  • Firfefox update not functioning

When opening Firefox get a message that Firefox is installing updates and will start in a few minutes. Later this appears.
The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.
I click this and the whole thing starts again. Any solution please?

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

i updated my ipod touch and it is not functioning.  The logo is blinking and it doesn't turn off either.  Any help?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • TS3147 Apple updates has caused my browser pdf plugins not to work and my print function not to work.

After download the Apple updates for printers for OS 10.6.8, I cannot get the Adobe plugins in my browsers to work.  Safari will open but it has a cross hatch over it making it unreadable.  Other browsers will not open pdf files.  None of them will save the file to my computer.  What needs to be done?

I went to Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plugins and then deleted  "Adobe PDF ViewerNPAPI.plugin".  This was the most recent plug-in addition from the update.  Doing this allowed me to view and save PDFs from the internet to my computer.
However, I have spent HOURS trying to figure out how to print!  I have an Epson Workforce 435 series and everytime I try to print I get an error message that "rastertoescpii failed".  I have downloaded open source drivers and deleted and reinstalled epson drivers from the CD as well as the internet, among many other things.  I wish I could find a solution to this because it is making me crazy.  Any help would be great!

  • Older versions of Apple Updater and Bonjour can not be deleted

I sent back my 1st Gen. Nano on recall. I then tried to sync the new 6th Gen. Nano to my iTunes 9.0. iTunes said I had to upgrade to iTunes 10.... When I tried to upgrade I got a message saying older versions of Apple updater and Bonjour could not be deleted. Also said something about Apple Software msi.dll not found.
Going through the online Apple support procedures I was told to delete iTunes, which I did. It is now gone although I think it is in "My Music" but I don't know how to get it back to where it was.
I called support and talked to a Asian Lady who spoke poor English and talked VERY fast. As I am 76 and hard of hear, which I told her at the begining, it was hard to talk with her. She told me I had no warrantee service available to me. I told her that the replacement Nano had a 90 day warrantee, which it does. I told her I felt if Apple was providing me with a replacement that required software updates to function in iTunes then their software to download the latest iTunes should contain whatever it needs to do so. SHE HUNGUP on me!!!!!!
Now my question to you folks, how do I retrieve iTunes from the "My Music" location?
And how do I do/get whatever I need to upgrade iTunes?
Please speck like you are talking to an idiot as I am pretty dense on this.
I did follow Apples on line procedures and this is the mess I'm in.
    Many thanks, Bill

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Next, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does it go through properly this time?
