Apple usb superdrive is not supported on this mac

I have an iMac using 10.9.2 and my cd drive is not working so I bought an external usb cd drive.  When I connect to my computer I get "The Apple USB SuperDrive is not supported on this Mac".
How do I get it to be accepted?

Use the Apple external SuperDrive on (almost) any Mac - Mac OS X Hints
Does this work ?.

Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

  • Apple USB SuperDrive with iMac question

From what I've read elsewhere. The Apple USB SuperDrive if connected to current iMac's will not be recognised.
I was wondering if it would be possible to connect the Apple USB SuperDrive to the iMac when it is used with/has a Virtual Machine with Parellels Desktop, would the Apple USB SuperDrive be then recognised in the Windows side?
    Thanks in advance.

    stephenfromhalifax,
I read with interest your post about adding a command to the Terminal that will allow a
Apple USB SuperDrive to be used with a Mac equipped with a built in Optical Drive.
Unfortunately my attempts to perform this modification were unsuccessful.
First a question: Does the SuperDrive have to be connected to the iMac when the
    command is entered?
Next, Here are the steps I took. First I double clicked on the Terminal icon in the Utilities folder
in the Hard Drive and a window opened on the desk top. This first line at the top of the window
had my user name - "bash"- 80X24. The contents of the window had login information followed
on line two with user information, iMac, my user name, a $ and a rectangle.
In addition to opening a window on the desktop, a "Terminal" icon appears in the Dock and when
you click on it a number of choices appear. One of the choices is "New Command". That selection
opens a window that allows you to enter a command, choose "Run command inside a shell" (huh?)
    and  "Run" or "Cancel".
I decided to try the "New Command" and "Run" option but when I finished the the USB Superdrive
still wouldn't work. Perhaps there is something I'm missing here?

    - Try restoring the iPod, first from backup and then try to factory settings/new iPod to rule out a software problem.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and broken or cracked plastic.
    - Could you have damaged something when you took the iPod apart and replaced the Home button?

  • I just purchased Apple USB SuperDrive and connected to my Mac mini 2012 but does not show anything on the screen. Not sure if its working.

I just purchased Apple USB SuperDrive and connected to my Mac mini late 2012 USB slot but nothing shows up on the screen.
    I have OS X versus 10.10.3

The system bus and all connected products should appear in the system profile or in the
hardware part of About this Mac (more info) and if that does not, restart the computer with
the external Apple USB SuperDrive plugged in. •As a last resort, if nothing else, before a
return trip to be rid of the SuperDrive, you could try a system management controller reset.
The SMC reset is not a first choice, so I won't post a link to the support instruction page.
A new Apple USB SuperDrive should be seen as hardware in system information report.
Of course, an icon of disc media should appear once the disc is inserted into the drive, too.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My ipod touch 3rd gen doesnt work on usb charger but on dock it says "Charging is not supported with this device" How do I fix it?

I'm taking it in to get it looked at but will they cover this? And is there a way to fix it before I take it in. I'm still under the 1 year warranty plan. My friend said that they might exchange it. It's a 64GB and I use it for a lot of things like my picture, music, contacts, and email. It's got scratches on the back but other wise its ok the screen isn't cracked or scratched.
I have a usb charger for it but when I plug it into the PC or my wall charger it won't charge. It just says  "Charging is not supported with this device". It even says that sometimes when it's not charging. But it works on a dock station like my clock or radio.
Also my home buttom won't work unless I press down real hard. This scares me because I'm afraid I wil persss it too hard and break it even more.
    Please help.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Charging not supported with this [official apple] accessory

I am getting the infamous "charging not supported with this accessory" with my iphone4, ios5 v5.1.1, and the OFFICIAL apple cable that came in the box. I different usb ports, same problem/
I know apple cables can become damaged, but I tried that same cable with the power plug and another laptop, and the phone successfully charged.
To rule out the cable, I bought another apple cable off amazon.com and I get the same error when plugged into this computer, yet it charges fine with the new cable on the other laptop and power plug, just like the first cable. I am beginning to think something is screwy with the USB drivers on the workstation. I hoped upgrading to latest itunes would install newer drivers, but the problem persists.
So how do I fix a problem that doesnt follow the cable, but follows the workstation? Uninstall the iphone from device manager to remove the drivers? Did that, didnt help. Uninstall itunes and reinstall? Why would that be a different result than upgrading itunes in place?
    Annoyed.

I uninstalled the driver via device manager, then uninstalled all appled software. Reinstalled via the itunes x64 installer.
    The problem persists.
However, I was using different usb ports on the 3.5" media reader in my pc. When I use a usb port on the back of the motherboard, charging works successfully with the cable that the iphone complained wasnt an official accessory.
So my problem is now, why did the front usb ports grab a different driver than the back ports, and how do I make sure they all use the same apple driver? It has to be driver related now, there is nothing left.

  • Macbook pro now says itunes not supported on this type of Mac.  only change has been addition of Apple TV. how to fix?

My older macbook pro now says itunes not supported "on this type of Mac".  Only change has been addition of Apple TV. The Apple TV remote is also controlling the Macbook.  Is this the problem?  How to fix?

Did you recently update OS X? The icon indicates you have a version of iTunes that is not compatible with the version of OS X you now have installed. The current version is Apple iTunes 11.0.2, and it's compatible with 10.6.8.

  • Why does the usb cord my ipod came with say not supported with this accesorie

i plugged my ipod into my computer and a yellow triangle popped up with a exclaimation mark in it and said below it charging is not supported with this accesorie.

    Jamie,
Could be that your USB cable is damaged somehow.  Try using a different cable if at all possible.
Otherwise, check your iPod's connector port on the bottom and make sure it is clear of debris such as lent, etc.  Use a can of compressed air to help blow it out.  Also, look for any broken or bent pints that could cause this error message to appear.

  • Apple hardware test does not support this machine, iMac 27" mid 2010

Hi, I have a mid 2010 iMac 27inch with OSX Maverics updated to the very latest version.
I need to hardware test my mac but I am finding it impossible. If I press D at bootup, nothing.
Option D, loads hardware test, but it comes back saying:
"Apple hardware test does not support this machine."
I don't have the original install disk for the mac and it has been updated several times online to the latest version. What am I supposed to do in this instance?

That Mac model requires the original system disk to run AHT. You can call Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE, and ask for an operating system specialist. Then you can request replacement system disks for your computer. The cost us usually under US$20.
Have your serial number at hand; it is required for the techs to find the correct disk set for your model.
