Apple User Account won't disappear!

How long until the Apple User Account disappears from Users & Groups in preferences after data is tranferred? It's been two days since I paid to have my data transferred in the store. The tech told me it would take a little while, but this is ridiculous. Can I remove it manually I can't shutdown!

Click on the lock icon and enter your admin password. Select the account you wish to delete then click on the Delete [-] button. Be sure to select the option to delete immediately, and do not opt for secure delete.

  • Multi-suggestions/questions/problem: (1)garageBand: working with cycle regions; (2) ToS note;  (3) apple user accounts

    (1) GarageBand:  "Working with Cycle Regions"
Preamble:  Cycle regions are very nice.  Thank you for recycling the concept.  That'd probably be great (unless you argue it'd be 'enabling') to include libraries of scripts that work with cycle regions  ('such as' note 1).  Thank you for cycle regions in GarageBand.
"'such as' note 1"   if C[i] is a cycle region, C[1] is the first take, C[2] the second take...
The ability to select/program different values of i for C[i] emplacements from a controller box, that could accomodate basic scripts that select i values from libraries, or generate them by simple formulas, or generate them by taking values from an "input text document" that could be easy output from basic custom software.
Issue:  Basic improvements to cycle region management.  Currently, if I want to know what music is in C[i], I have to set the i value from a drop down menu by clicking on the region.  If I want to search for that passage, I have to maximially do that n many times (n = the number of cycles per cycle region).  One faster way to search would be to allow pasting of sequential +1 iteration-wise cuts from that cycle region, and fast forwarding through that, or whatever.  Another way, is that while recording, some visual notification could be present, telling me which take # is being recorded.  (Maybe die-hard musicians used to counting don't worry about it.)
    (2) Terms of Service  Issue
An "email Terms of Service" button would be nice.
Also, a "readers digest" cliff notes version of practical center points would be nice.  Such could come with disclaimers that the notes don't necessarily reflect views of apple, although could be popularized "3rd party watchdog sides" that rate applicability of such disclaimers.
    (3) Apple User Account
Some third party algorithm generated this user name.  I never wrote that in myself.  What is that about?  Is my account security in some crisis?
    Thanks!

Please reply and let me know i if this was helpful or I am missing something. this worked for me and it has been about a week and my backups are still running.

  • Guest user account won't login

In OS 10.10.2 the guest user account won't login, all we get is the spinning ball.
How do I fix the problem?
    -Patrick

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • ICal on a second user account won't work

I recently purchased a new iMac with OS Lion. Software is fully updated.  Using the Time Machine copy from my laptop, I basically cloned my laptop to this computer. All my services work fine.  I set up a new user account for my wife. We are not able to use iCal from her account.
When I am in my user account, iCal works fine.  When she first went into iCal from her user account,  iCal seemed to let her add new events, but did not save any of the information that she put it.  They show as "New Event".  Now it won't even let us add a new event.
I just went back to a saved "New Event". I clicked on it and hit the delete key. It disappeared.  I clicked in that day (on the month view) and several items that we had tried to add show up.  If I click on one of them, I get the summary info with event name and some dates and times. If I click on Edit, I can edit the name, but not the dates of times.  Eventually as I try different things, the event names that are not "New Event" each disappear (on their own).
Any idea what is happening?  Any idea how to give my wife access to her own calendar - or even to my calendar.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Sorry.  I used incorrect terminology.  The iMac was using Lion and had been updated to 10.7.2.  My Laptop is running OS 10.6.8.  It is being backed up (not cloned) on a Time Capsule.  When I started up the iMac, I believe it camu up in Startup Assistant and asked if I wanted to transfer information from another source.  I clicked yes and it gave me the option to transfer the files from my Time Machine file and I chose that.
I assume that when it brings in information from Mail and Contacts and iCal, it just brings over the data and puts it into the format of the new OS.  It seemed to do that fine.
Now the problem.  I generated a New User Account (initially as a non-Administrator, I have since changed that to Administrator status with no difference in the problem).  The Account I made does ahve a few things that seem unusual to me. First, it has no Application Folder .  iCal does appear in the default Dock. I would expect that iCal would be empty and when populated would do so in some data storage file in the New User Account.  It is empty, but doesn't allow the addition of a new Event.
If you need more information, please ask.

  • Two Apple user accounts, can I delete one?

After using Migration Assistant to move from a G4 tower running Tiger to an Intel tower also running Tiger, I noticed two user accounts, "Apple" and "Apple_". The "Apple" account has a creation date several years old, while the "Apple_" account was created on the date of the migration. The uid's are 501 and 502.
Can I delete the older account?

Assuming "Apple" and "Apple_" are for the convenience of the Software Update feature, I wonder if deleting the account with uid 502, "Apple_" with the most recent create date, would cause trouble. I have run the update since the migration.
How might I determine if there are sensitive files in either account? Nosing around with terminal.app at root level seems unproductive.

  • Ahh.. new update for ipod limits music to only 5 apple user accounts

please help, i recently downloaded the new software for my ipod. untill recently, i would grab music off my friends computers. now i have purchased some videos and when i try to add to my ipod is says "only 5 user accounts alowed" i searched every one of the songs on the ipod and i could only find three accounts.. why is this happening to me?? anybody else run into this problem?

Try a restore "as new". This will completely wipe the iPod and re-install the firmware. A sync should transfer everything in the library to the touch (assuming sync settings are what you want). If this doesn't do it, a trip to the Apple store would be appropriate.

  • Wife's User Account Won't Open!

    Hello, my problem is this;
My user account and my son's user accounts both work fine - from login or fast switching we can enter our passwords and off we go. My wife's account will not open at all. The password is entered correctly, the screen goes blue and after a few seconds, returns to the login screen. Obviously the account is corrupt in some way. I thought perhaps I could delete her account, saving her home folder as a disk image and creating a new account for her. When I tried to save the home folder via the Delete Account window, I got an error message "Unable to delete the user account Clare (Wife's account name). An error occurred while backing up this user's home folder".
If I delete her account without saving her home folder, can I retrieve her documents using time machine?

  • Admin user account won't connect to internet - but guest will.

I'm having a very strange problem with my imac.  When I am signed in using my normal admin account, the internet won't work.  Or if it does it is brutally slow.  And as long as I have the my computer plugged into the internet... whether it be ethernet or wifi, no one else in my house can connect to the internet either, or it's brutally slow as well.  The second I unplug the ethernet cable from the back of my computer, everyone else's computer on my home network works perfectly.
The only way I can avoid this problem is to sign on to my imac with the guest account, in which case the internet works fine on my computer and everyone else's.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I really don't want to just start using the guest account... I am a photographer and all my info, apps, etc. I use for my business are in my normal admin account.  Any help will be much appreciated.  Thanks, Beverly
    I am running Lion 10.8.5

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running a program at the instance of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There is no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear in the Terminal window. If you don't see that line within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. If that happens, please post the results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • User Accounts iTunes, Apps disappear each logout/logon after 10.4.4 upgrade

My whole desktop goes back to default - my files and iTunes and applications are under a username1, username 2, username3, etc. each time I logoff and log back on. I tried the username_new and idisk restore and notheing helps. It's like Groundhog Day (the Bill Murray movie) -- I configure my desktop, restore my Dock with my apps, reimport my iTunes library and then logoff and back on and it all 'disappears' and goes back to like it was when I first got it out of the box. I upgraded to 10.4.4. I try to rename my accounts and my permissions on iDisk are invalid, my keychain keeps popping up and asking for my password every 5 to 10 minutes, etc., even though I gave permissions in keychain access, etc. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

If you have all your files backed up including all the folders, like Documents etc then Delete the account and then in the Users folder make a folder with the shortname of the account you want to setup then copy all the folder which were in your original user folder, like Music and Documents etc into there.
Then make a new account, ensuring the shortname is the same as the folder you've created in the users folder, then it will say that a folder already exists in there with the same name, do you want to use this folder as your home folder, say yes, and it should be ok from there.

  • Facebook User Account Won't Switch

I've had the Playbook email and Facebook accounts setup for me, but today I added my wife's email account, deleted my email account just to make it easier, deleted my Facebook account, and added my wife's Facebook account as it had indicated there could only be one Facebook account.
The email works as intended and receives just her email, however, the Facebook app will not retrieve my wife's Facebook information but continues to retrieve my Facebook information even though my username and password no longer appear under Accounts.
What gives???  (BTW it's running the latest OS.)

I reinstalled the Facebook app and that worked out just fine.
    Thank you!

  • Multiple User Accounts Belonging to the Same Person--Authorization

    Hello,
I've used iTunes for a number of years, and have accumulated a handful of Apple user accounts over that time period. I've always been able to de-authorize old computers and re-authorize new ones to be able to play all of the songs I've purchased over the years on whatever machine I'm using currently, but I just got a new laptop with Windows 7 and have only been able to get into one of my Apple accounts on it. Obviously I'm aware that it's not ideal for me to be one person with multiple accounts, but as my email accounts changed (and as I got older), I just kept re-registering. Now, iTunes seemingly isn't even registering that my two older accounts exist: my passwords, which I know are right, are no longer working to sign me in, much less to authorize this new computer to play the songs I bought probably 6 or 7 years ago.
I was wondering if there is anything I can do to get Apple to condense my accounts, especially considering that the original iTunes account I had was through AOL (the later two are through gmail accounts), though my end goal is really just to be able to play all of my music.
Any ideas on how to solve any of these issues would be greatly appreciated! At this point iTunes isn't even recognizing the older two accounts, as I said earlier.
    Thanks!
    Elise

You said it right there, in your post... Call Apple for support with combining the accounts. I have never heard of them doing that. But, if they can, you would need to contact them as they do not read these forums.

  • How do I access time machine from different user account

    Hi there.
Last week I had to take my comupter into the local Apple Store because I was having problems with Boot Camp.  The genius at the store had to delete everything from my hard drive and reinstall it from my external hard drive.  As part of the process she created a "Apple" user account.  I now want to restore some files (unrelated to this Boot Camp story) from my time machine archive.  However, all the files prior to this Apple Store encounter are red -- and it says I do not have permission to view them.  When I click "get info" it says that the "Apple" account has the read/write access to them and the option to unlock them is greyed out.  How can I get these files from the archive and get them onto my main user account where they belong?  The "Apple" account does not have a password so I think I can easily log on as that account, but I don't know where to go from there.
PS The files in question are iTunes libraries.
    Thanks for your help.

Ok, I fixed it.  Here's what I did.
I logged into my computer under the Apple account.  Then I went into Time Machine.  I found my old files under Users-->"my main account".  I was able to restore those files to Users-->Shared.  Then I was able to log back into "my main account" and retrieve the files from the shared folder.  It worked!  Hope this helps someone else some time!

  • User Accounts Disabled For No Apparent Reason

We're having something where Entourage users are apparently handing off the incorrect user name and password when logging in to read email and thereby disabling their Apple user account on our mail/webmail OSX server.
I don't know how to stop the accounts from being disabled, nor do I know when the user has been automatically disabled by the server. We only know when the customer contacts us (which can't be by email).
This has already cost us some accounts and business.
Users who are not Windows or who are not using Entourage are having no problem. Since the problem also happens with Mac Entourage users, it may have more to do with Entourage than Windows.
Anyone know how to set the authentification of OSX Server or Entourage to be more tolerant? We do not have disable login after xx failed attempts selected.

Are you sure it's isolated to Entourage? Is there any other process/program running? Weather Bug did it for me. It had cached my password then I changed my windows password then my account was disable every time I logged in. Maybe they have an incorrect password stored in their keychain that another program is using.

  • Can't log-in using Apple user ID

Why is my apple user account was change from apple account id to my email address? I can no longer log-in using my Apple user ID. 2 days ago my apple username was still accessible.

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.
    Regards.

  • Mail account won't stay deleted, keeps reappearing.

Hello ... An apple mail account won't delete.  It keeps reappearing when I restart mail.  I've gone into system preferences, mail preferences, unchecked 'enable this account', unchecked 'include when checking', etc.  I can delete it, create my new mail account and things are good until I exit out of Mail, then when I reopen, the old account reappears and the new one is gone.  They are POPs.  Thanks.

Just in case anyone has this same problem, none of the above worked except for going into library/mail/maildata/accounts.plist file and removing any reference to the mailbox that won't delete.  I removed any inferences, saved the file and it works perfectly now.
