Apple Video Adapter / Firewire Out Thru Camera

Hello,
Could someone explain in somewhat technical detail the difference between playing your timeline out to a TV, through the Video Adapter as compared to Firewire out thru a camera.
I didn't own a TV - I only watch films on my wall with a projector - but I got a basic TV the other day (I have zero budget) to help with finishing off my film projects.
It will help to see the DVDs I burn on a TV, as I couldn't do that before (without going to a friends house), but I'm forced to use the Video Adapter and I've read that it's of no use; that you need to go firewire out thru a camera.
I don't have an firewire in facility on my camera.
I basically wanted to hear more than what I've read so far. Specifically, what is the difference in technical terms?
Thru the adapter: is it interlaced on the TV, are the colors different, is it a pixel issue; what's the difference?
I edit on my iBook with Final Cut Pro, I've got a 19" Diamond Pro 930SB monitor also, and now this basic little TV. They all look different and I'm going crazy trying to figure out which to finish to.
Buying more kit, or adding something I don't have is not an option; only how to make the best use of what I've got.
Thanks for any answers or guidance.
Matt

Second what David said about using the output on the computer - it has little real-world use.
Matt, from looking at your impressive website I'm surprised you aren't more familiar with video technology, or at least have people around you who do. That's actually a complimant.
There are two essential things using a properly converted CRT will give you.
The first - coupled with a decent and calibrated video monitor (rather than a TV) - is a consistent standard by which you can judge your work, especially in comlor correction. FOr anything you consider critical work you should also be using scopes.
The second, assuming you are working in any interlaced format such as PAL or NTSC, is to give you the full temporal and spatial resolution of an interlaced signal. At the least it will allow you to see and correct interlace-related problems which are posted here so often. Your "basic tv" will at least help with this part.
The FCP manual explains both of these fairly well in more detail.
I reiterate that the Mac's video output has no relevance to either of these, no matter what the settings.
If you have shot your own material and brought it into the Mac, didn't you use a camera, a deck, or an analog converter to do that"? If so, you have your converter already.

  • Video out after using Apple Video adapter.

Hi, I have an Mac G5 17" iSight and after I mirror'd my screen to my TV using an Apple video adapter (something I've done hundreds of times before) the computer screen wouldn't change back to the general screen resolution (also something it used to do before). After restarting my computer in an atempt to fix the problem the video was all black (nothing at all, i.e no faint glow) but the computer started up correctly and I could interact with it and control it thru remote access from another mac.
Restarting the PRAM did'nt change anything.
But then after reseting the SMU the computer got worse! Now it just powers up and after som or se time the fans start working real hard but nothing else happens. I don't want to keep them running for more than half a minute because I'm afraid the logic board will burn up if it hasn't already.
What could have happend? Is it fixable?
    Please help....

I answered my own question (this is my post after finding the answer in another thread). Hope this helps someone.
Woohoo! Thanks for the post- I have a 5G with the Apple A/V cable, but I couldn't get the video to work, just the audio on the tv. I didn't have "TV Output" selected "On." Now I don't have to return the product. Man, this 5G is amazing.

  • Apple Video Adapter Blew my Inverter and HELP?

I had purchased a few television shows from itunes and wished to watch them on my television. I went to the Apple store today and purchased an Apple Video adapter for Mini-VGA to Video Out M9109G/A. I asked if it was the correct adapter and everyone I asked stated it was. I came home, unplugged my PS2 from my video in on my television, plugged the adapter into my iMac. The video resolution adjusted to something like 800 stretched I took the SAME rca cable used for my PS2 and plugged it into the adapter. A popping noise occured and my screen went black.
Zapped Pram, Started from Install CD 1, Took back off, plugged in adapter, pressed start button and noted that LED 3 was lit. Following the troubleshooting instructions I ordered the replacement inverter.
    Now my problems/questions are this
    1) Why did this happen? I've plugged all kinds of things into that port on the television without question. Should I never use the monitor out w/ the Apple Adapter?
    2) I don't have a backup of my data from friday, saturday, or sunday. I attempted to boot the (screen dead) imac via target mode through my pismo in order to clone the drive out, but it wouldn't appear. Is this normal w/ a 'defective inverter'. Is there any way to get my data? I have another identical model, and I know I CAN exchange the drives (leaving the sensor and the case plugged in so as to avoid any cable problems), but is this a bad idea?
Thanks for any advice on this.
BTW, all components line conditioned w/ UPS.
Well..Apple Palo Alto fixed my machine in one day. I'm very impressed. Unfortunately, I couldn't de-authorize my machine (ITMS) prior to the midplane replacement so now iTunes isn't working since it thinks it is authorized or something. I'm trying here, but any suggestions would be good.
In summary. A) Good people at Apple told me to switch drives to my other imac to backup and this worked fine. B) Repair was completely quickly and machine works.
    C) If you have this situation with authorization: 1) Open terminal, type cd /users/shared then type mv "SC Info" "old_SC Info". 2) Create a new user (I did w/ admin). 3) login to the new user account, launch itunes and try to deauthorize (you should get a message you aren't authorized) so buy a free song and authorize. Login to your original user and try itunes (shoudl work) delete the newer user and you can remove "old_SC Info" or keep it if you so choose.
Hope my rambling is helpful to someone.

On Mac Pro I use my second video out to connect a standard crt vga monitor. When I have it plugged in when I boot, the computer hangs with the blue screen everyone else has, never showing the mac os x loading screen. If I have it unplugged when I boot, everything starts fine but when I plug the vga monitor back in, it does not find the monitor after clicking detect displays. This was all working fine before 10.5, so it has to be an issue with the os communicating with my video card.
I assume this all stems from the same issues you are having. There is a glitch in either the video driver or the new core for video that they have not fixed yet.
I may eventually call on this, but right now, I dont have 2 hours to waste speaking to someone in the Philippines that is reading a script.

  • Apple Video Adapter Not Working

    Hi all,
I have completed an update of 10.4.10 to 10.5 on my MacBook C2D without problems.
I just connected my Apple Video Adapter to try out Front Row, and nothing appears on the TV! The icon appears in Displays preference pane, but nothing appears on the TV. I can change the resolution and PAL/NTSC but the TV stays blue. Was working perfectly yesterday.
    Can anyone else try this?

  • Apple video adapter

if i buy an apple video adapter to use a tv as a display will I be able to have the ibook closed and still view it onthe tv?

No. Closing the iBook puts it to sleep.
You can, however, almost close it, leaving it open just enough to keep the sleep switch from activating.
Heat is dissipated through the keyboard, so you should never run it while it is closed (if a malfunction should allow it to run that way).

  • Is Apple video adapter compatible with my 12 inch ibook G4?

    HI.
Sorry if i'm repeating an old topic, but I can't seem to find this specific question in any of them. i was reading on the apple website that the video adapter M9109G/A (Model no) Is only compatible with ibook's without the external reset button? What exactly do they mean by external reset button? Mine has a reset/startup button on the right, just above the keyboard. Is that what they are referring to?
Anyway, I'm sure someone here can help me out.
    Thanks
    Steve

You are talking about the power button on your iBook G4. You can see a couple examples of reset buttons in KB 14449, Resetting PowerBook and iBook Power Management Unit (PMU).
The M9109G/A is the correct cable for your iBook.

  • 2012 R2 RemoteFX 3D Video Adapter Greyed Out

I am running a home Server with 2012 R2 with the Hyper-V role installed, with about 5 Windows 8.1 VM's.  I'm trying to get RemoteFX working, here's my hardware config:
    E5-4610 Processor (Supports Slat)
Nvidia GTX 770 (Driver supports WDDM 1.3 with direct X 11)
Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5 (All bios virtual settings enabled)
When I install the Video card driver (tried different versions using windows 8 and windows 8.1 drivers) initially it shows me the checkbox to "Use this GPU with RemoteFX" However after a reboot it says no supported video cards are available.
Before the reboot after installing the driver when it shows the GPU is capable of remote FX, I am not able to add a RemoteFX 3d adapter to a virtual machine because it is greyed out.
After I reboot, if i uninstall and re-install the driver the GTX 770 is available to use again but I still cannot add the RemoteFX adapter to a virtual machine's hardware.
    I have done the following:
Verified in DXdiags that the direct X version is 11
Verified in DXdiags that the driver model is WDDM 1.3
Verified the E5-4610 Proc supports Slat or Extended Page Tables
Enabled all the Virtualiztion VT-x settings in the Bios
Verified the video card is supported and certified in 2012 R2
Verified the Remote Desktop Virtualization Host Agent is started in Services.msc
Tried the newest and oldest video drivers for 8.1, and newest for windows 8
I am using Generation 1 vm's as i heard Generation 2 is having problems with RemoteFX
Tried Generatino 2 VM's, there is no option to add RemoteFX hardware
Tried a different GTX 550Ti video card, same issue
Performed all Windows updates for server 2012 R2
Please advise on the next steps to be taken to get RemoteFX working, or if any of the hardware I mentioned above does not support RemoteFX in 2012 R2.
    Thanks.

    Hi buzzmuff,

  • Apple Video Adapter question

    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/StoreReentry. wo?productLearnMore=M9109G%2FA
I know this product works on our network providing an information service via a cable connection to TVs throughout the building, from a 1.25Ghz eMac.
My questions, however, are: Can I connect an 1.25GHz eMac directly to a single TV using a composite video cable or only via the s-video port. If a composite cable connection works what has to be done to tune the TV in to the eMac output?
If S-video is the way to go... are there any recommendations/restrictions with regard to cable length?
Hope I'm making sense (and that I have posted to the correct forum).
    Thanks in advance.

If the TV has a S-Video connector, use it. It will give a sharper picture than composite video. If all you have is composite, use that. The TV should have an input selector to choose S-Video or composite. If the set has no video input you will need a RF modulator to convert the S-video or composite video to RF to feed into the TV's antenna input.

  • Apple DVI to Video Adapter not working with SL + Mac Mini

I've seen some issues with the video adapter putting out only black and white signal with Macbook Pros. That would be an improvement for me.
I can't get SL to play with the video adaper when I plug it into my TV. I get black and white and a bounching broken up signal, as though the refresh rates don't match. I can't play around with the settings because it's impossible to see what's on screen. I have to plug my monitor back in.
This used to work fine under Leopard.
How will I ever watch Mad Men now?

Why don't you click on the Apple icon at the top left of the screen.
Select About This Mac. Click on the info about which version of OS X you have - under the Apple icon - click twice to see your serial number. Use it to determine the model of your Mac Pro on Apple's web site. Inform those who would help you what model Mac Pro you have.

  • Using Video Adapter with eMac

I've searched all over and cannot find any information on this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would like to send video from my eMac to my TV. I purchased the Apple Video Adapter and an RCA cable. I have the adapter plugged into the computer, and the cable plugged into the adapter and the TV. I restarted the computer. The TV (on its video setting) shows static with the adapter plugged in; if I take it out, it goes black, so clearly some signal is passing through. However, I cannot figure out how to get the eMac to recognize the new "display".
The discussions on the subject mention using a "detect display" fuction. I don't see anything called "detect display" in the display preferences. I do have it set to show the displays in the menu bar, and the drop-down menu only shows the eMac and its resolutions. The preferences, also, only gives me the info for the eMac.
Am I missing something? Is there a setting I need to change? Should I assume the adapter is defective (I gather this has happened to others)?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    eMac 700 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I don't think the problem is at the TV's end, as it's clearly getting some sort of signal on the video setting I'm using (there's static when it's connected to the computer, and nothing when it's not). The problem is that the computer doesn't see that it's connected to another display.
Something I realized, comparing computers (we also have a Mini)--the Mini's display preferences window has a "detect displays" button that the eMac's doesn't. They're both running 10.4.3. Any ideas (anyone?) why the eMac's missing it?
    Thanks again!

  • How to disable external display (s-video adapter)

    My problem is this:
I have the new iMac in my office and I have my widescreen TV (CRT non-HDTV) on the other side of the wall in the living room. I recently purchased the Apple video adapter so I could run a s-video cable through the wall to my TV. I got it to work fine but how do I disable it? If I have mirroring on (only way to use Front Row) my iMac screen resolution drops obviously but I can't turn native screen resolution back on without either a) turn off mirroring b) remove video adapter.
Surely there is a better way to do this?
    Joshua.

I'm not a hundred percent sure this will work for you since I've never used svideo out on my mac before, but if it works similar to dvi out, then do the following:
    1. Set you tv up as extended desktop rather than mirror. This will allow you to set different resolutions on the internal and external monitors.
    2. When you want to use the TV for front row, drag the Menu bar from the internal monitor to the external monitor in the monitors system pref. This will make your tv the controlling monitor and front row will play on it.
    3. When you finish with front row, drag the menu bar back to the internal monitor.
Again, this works when I have my dvi cable connected to my tv, I'm not sure if a svideo output is treated the same way, though I would think it should be.

  • Imac iSight external video adapter

My original display on the iMac iSight is damaged. I noticed the external video port and may I assume that I could use it to run it that way. But the problem is figuring which adapter to use.  Somewhere is mentioned PN M9321 G/A and PN 9320 G/A but when I go to the store to purchase it it does not say that it is suitable for my PPC iMac. It does say that is suitable for intel I Mac. If anyone would please let me know what is to do.
    Thanks in advance

After a search in two different directions, I found some information on what may be the correct VGA adapter for mirroring the internal display to an external; a page link and a product number. Appears to be obsoleted, but a call to Apple (main online store, or local Apple Store) should let you know if you'll be looking for used online, etc. Could be there is a new part number for this, or perhaps some authorized reseller has old stock? or a lucky find.
The adapter in question probably fit a few different models of that vintage, so someone online may have one if it truly is obsoleted. Some look similar but do not work the same.

    Hi Elgrego,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Is this a test? The way you phrased this post seems like you know the answer, but want to see if anyone else does.
I believe the DVI output on the Mac Mini is a DVI-I, so it can connect to both in the same port. I believe since your TV is analog, it would use analog. I don't know that much about displays.

  • Ibook G4 video adapter - wrong one?

I have a ibook G4 (purchased summer 2005) and recently bought the Mini-DVI to Video Adapter (part M9319G/A). The connector does not fit in my ibook's video output port. What adapter should I get? what part number works with my ibook to display my screen onto a TV? I thought I bought the correct adapter but obviously didn't.

You're after a mini-VGA to video adapter, not a mini-DVI (I believe). It should be listed in the Apple Store as "Apple Video Adapter". Just make sure it's mini-VGA.
