Apple virgin and excited!

So, after using PCs for the best part of 20 years, I finally took the plunge, specced myself a Macbook and waiting for its imminent arrival.
I really fell in love with apple after getting the iphone 3G which is an amazing piece of kit.
I am fairly daunted by the prospect of trying to ship over all my pc files for which I have a portable hard drive at the ready....
Any starting up tips, tricks or anything advice for a newbie like me for the day when the machine arrives?
I was slightly concerned by the problems some have reported picking up wireless signals, I use BT broadband, is there anything I should expect, or anything I should do to make sure I have no broadband problems?
Fingers crossed, and I await my new Mac with baited breath.

Congrats and welcome to Apple Discussions...
You love your iPhone now... check this out. It's called, "Bump Technology"... you just bump two iPhones together and it syncs your Address Books. I saw it on a show here called, "Tech Now". Pretty amazing stuff. http://www.bumptechnologies.com/products.phtml
As for the MacBook and Bluetooth broadband. I used to use Verizon Bluetooth with one of my Mac laptops (away from home) and other than being a tad slower than hi-speed broadband, I never had any problems. Some Bluetooth devices are automatically detected and there's no set up but since this is an internet connection, just follow the instructions for your Bluetooth broadband. You can always come here and ask for assistance.

  • I have a nano and want to transfer my music from it to my new iPad. Unfortunately upon the excitement of setting up my new iPad I created a new apple Id and now cannot sync. Can I do it another way. Step by step pls I'm technologically challenged!

I have a nano and want to transfer my music to my new iPad, in all the excitement of setting up my iPad I created a new apple Id and now I can't sync my music!
Can someone please advise if there is a way to transfer my music to my iPad manually? If so, please detail step by step, as I am technologically challenged! Thanks in anticipation.

You can search within your music folder on your pc, or within documents folder for a music folder.
In any case, you would need to sync with itunes

If the music was purchased from the itunes store, you can also download it directly from there to the ipad.

  • I was so excited about apple pay and now setting it up hoping to replace a wallet within next year or so and then boom 8 cards you are done! Come on Apple 8 cards is that what you call wallet replacement?

I was so excited about apple pay and now setting it up and boom 8 cards and you are done is that the wallet replacement they thought they'll do? really? I mean most people have 10-15 cards at least and I am, well because of my side business I have lots so 8 is nothing to me!

Not sure what you are saying.  I was able to very quickly set up my AmEx card - no problems at all.  For my PNC and Macy's cards, companies still working on being ApplePay-ready.
It will happen, just not as fast as we might like, but I think it is going to be fabulous.

  • I have just changed internet providers from BT to Virgin, and now my iTunes doesn't show any of my airport express devices.

I have just changed internet providers from BT to Virgin, and now my iTunes doesn't show any of my airport express devices.  I assume that I have to reconfigure them to the the new wireless but how do I do this frmo my PC?  Thanks

I would recommend that you start by performing a "factory default" reset on each of your AirPort Express base stations. Once completed, you can use the following Apple Support article to configure each base station for streaming.

I found My iPhone contacts on my friends Iphone we both have 4s! But we use the same apple ID and ICloud ID! How can undo what happened? all my private stuff is now on his phone!!! help me plz!!?

Of course if you are both connected to the same iCloud account you have the same contacts - what did you expect?. The contacts live on the server and are read from there by the devices; so as you've both managed to sync your contacts up to iCloud they are now inextricably mixed. You can only delete your contacts by deleting individual ones, and doing that will delete them from your phone as well.
You can only unravel this by
    1. In the iCloud contacts page at http://icloud.com, select all the contacts, click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left and choose 'Export vCard'.
    2. Sign out of System Preferences>iCloud
    3. Create a new Apple ID and open a new iCloud account with it for your own use.
    4. Import the vCard back into the iCloud contacts page.
    5. Go to http://icloud.com and sign in with the original ID. This is now his ID. Work through the contacts individually deleting the ones you don't want him to have. When done sign out and advise him to change his password.
    6. Go to the new iCloud account and delete his contacts individually.
Of course if you have also been syncing calendars and using the same email address there are problems with doing this.

It is not possible to create a new iCloud account using a Windows machine. You must create the account using a Mac (10.7.5 or more) or an IOS device (iPhone etc). Once that is done you can sign into and use the account on your Windows machine.

  • How can I reset my IPAD 2 to resolve the fact that Apple will not let me use the APPLE  ID and passwords that I want to use becasue they may have been used in the past year. I am very close to donating this contraption to the Good Will.

I have been an Apple User for almost two decades and have had no problems with my G4 Powerbook, my Intel MacMini, nor several other Macs as well as Windows 7 machines. However, the IPAD2 poses a problem of unfathomable disgust with the concept and implementation of the Apple ID. There is one for the computer, there is one for support, and there is one for itunes, and possibly another one for apps. There are different passwords for each. I am continually faced with notification that my Apple ID is incorrect or the password is incorrect. I have to keep an Excel spreadsheet with all of this unnecessary NANNY State protection matched only in pervasiveness by the Federal government.
I am told that an Apple ID can never be destroyed and replaced. Who dreamed that one up? I am told I cannot use a password that has been used in the past year. Why? By whose authority? I am not a walking encyclopedia that remembers every telephone number he ever dialed. Thankfully my cheap LG clamshell telephone keeps numbers and talks to Ford Sync successfully.
Bottom line is that the IPAD has become almost totally useless since I cannot change the several necessary passwords to anything I can remember because they are not novel enough. I also never seem to be able to keep the Apple IDs straight as they are too numerous to remember and I don't want to remember them anyway. Why? Even if you enventually get the ID right you have the wrong password and have to go through a merry-go-round of emails to change the password to something you have already used in the past year which is not permitted.
Has anyone out there used a competitive device with less cumberson overhead? Surely this is not the best American technology can produce.
    Thanks for your comments.

Thanks to all who responded. You are all absolutely correct. However, this Ipad was a gift to my wife who was dying of cancer in the hospital and wanted some entertainment. So I started it out with her Apple ID. After she passed away I moved from Sacramento to Austin and eventually proceeded to get the Apple ID changed from my wife's to mine. Meanwhile when she was in the hospital I opened an Itunes account in my name to buy movies for her. That was the first mistake.
Then during the move to Austin I lost track of the IPAD and later found it and tried to use support but could not remember the proper ID. Later the folks at the Apple store helped me create a new and novel Apple ID that was unfortunately unlike any other.
The botom line is that I am stuck with three Apple IDs and three passwords. I am told by Apple there is nothing they can do about this as IDs cannot be changed or destroyed. I can quit using them or start a new account but when I try to do that the system keeps remembering too many things from the past and resists.
Even if I sold this Ipad and bought a new one, the system memory is still there.
I think the real problem is that destop and laptop computers are totally owned by an individual and that individual can control logins and passwords to his liking. IPADs and similar Apple products are different in that the corporation has built in their own intrusion detection schemes because of the relation to Itunes.
One thing I thought about is to open a new Itunes account pretendding to be a new customer with my regular Apple ID. Perhaps I could do the same with Apple Support.
    Thanks for your comments.

  • HT2534 I have three Apple IDs and would like to combine them all into one, can I do that and how?

When I started buying Apple products I did not realize how important it was to keep the same Apple ID and Password for all of the device.  As a result I have four Apple ID's.  I would like to only have one Apple ID for all my devices.  Is this possible and what do I ave to do to make it happen?  I appreciate any help you might be able to give me.  Thanks

It's not currently possible to merge accounts, nor to transfer content from account to another account - content will remain tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded it.

  • HT2589 We have purchase 5 apple minis and would like them all on one account.  That way we can monitor the use of these units.  they will be used strickly for a business application.  can I use one account in itunes or must i have multiple.

Not going to happen the way you want it to.
When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with.

  • How can I change the old Apple ID, and i want to use my new Apple ID, i dont know the password because my phone is a gift for me of my sister what should i do, i cant update my iphone4 pls help me

How can i use my new Apple ID, instead of using the old Apple ID what will i do to delete the old Apple ID in my phone

Heres the situation guys, my sister is working abroad, when she went home, she gave me her  iphone, I started using this phone almost a year now, when Apple noticing me to update my phone, I cant do it because i don't know the password, i create my own Apple ID and started using it just now, everytime i try to update my phone the old Apple ID kept on appearing instead of my Apple ID,

  • I have two Apple IDs, and this is causing problems with syncing via iCloud. How do I move everything to one ID? All advice is for setting up, not for after it's already set up.

My problem is that I have been a Mobile Me user for the past couple of years, and because of that a second Apple ID was generated in addition to the one I've been using for years. When iCloud was introduced last fall I did everything I was supposed to in setting it up, but it is evident that the syncing is not working as it should. In checking, I am certain this is because I now have two active Apple IDs. I would assume this is a common issue with all who were/are Mobile Me users.
The online help says you can't merge two IDs. Okay. What I want to do is to get rid of the Moble Me ID and only use my regular Apple ID. But the help on that issue seems to only give instructions for setting up the iCloud account. It seems that when I go into my iCloud accounts, both on my iPhone and my Mac, I can view the ID but there is no way to change them to another ID or to eliminate the account.
Please help. I am a long-time Apple user and this really should be a fairly simple matter to take care of, but this is one issue where the normally user-friendly Apple way of life is giving me fits. Thanks.

I am logged into the same things on both my iPhone and my MacBook Pro, except for mail. I use a gmail IMAP account and everything there already works on both machines. The iCloud account on my iPhone uses one Apple ID and the one on the Mac uses the second Apple ID.

    ChrisJ4203,
Thank you for the help.  Every app on my phone was downloaded using my old I-tunes ID.  I just hope that they will re-download under my new ID because I still can't change it on my phone.  In order to change to the new ID it says I have to sign out from the old ID and change to the new one.  My problem is that I don't remember my password to be able to sign out from my old ID.  Then the phone says it can change my password through e-mail and I  agree but I never get an e-mail at my old address or the new one.

  • How can I keep my old things from own apple account and move it to a new one?

I got a new iTunes account today and all of my old things (videos, pictures, music, apps, etc.) are all on the old account, which is my dad's. I want to have all of my stuff on my iPhone, but also have a new Apple Account.

You will not be able to transfer the items purchased or the other Apple ID. You will need to reinstall the data under your Apple ID and pay for the apps.
