Apple watch resting calories seem far too high

I've had the apple watch since the 24th, and I've worn it continuously until bedtime. All of my metrics are accurate (height/weight).
My Resting Calories (found in the iPhone activity app by swiping left under the move row) are listed as 3600 Cal. This seems incredibly high to me. My BMR is 2100 Cal, as calculated here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/tools/bmr-calculator
I've used other BMR sites and they all give me a similar number.
Is anyone else having this issue? I can't comprehend how it could be so high. If I ate 3600 Cal in one day (without exercising) I would be gaining weight rapidly!

No.

  • My latency seems far too high.

Like many others here, I primarily use my internet connection for gaming, now along the way over the past few years with BT I've never had the best connection but for a long time my ping was normal.
A couple of months ago my internet was upgraded, maybe it was something to do with the nearest exchange, I'm not sure, it wasn't an upgrade I asked for, mind. We were given the brand new homehub as well.
So the upgrade went something like 1mb - > 4.5mb. Can't complain too much, better download speeds and what not. The biggest gripe I have, that is when this upgrade occurred, my latency sky rocketed from about 15-20 to 35-40 (average) on UK servers.
It's pretty **bleep** annoying to say the least, because when I connect to other european servers it's almost unplayable and I play on servers outside of the UK the most. I rang up BT to ask for interleaving to be turned off, as usual they pretended they didn't know what it was and ignored me. So what can I do, anything? Doesn't seem right that I get 40ping to a UK server, when most of the country sits on about 15ping.

  • My subscription fee seems wrong (too high)

Hey community, This is a question for Australia - not sure if this forum is global. So I'm currently on the free premium trial but the 'My Account' page says that I will renew at $14.99 per month. On the Spotify page to become a premium member it shows the cost is $11.99 per month. That seams more reasonable and more in line with Apple Music, Xbox Music etc. Does anyone know why I'd be setup to pay $14.99? Note that I did NOT sign up via Apple because i know that's 30% higher. I signed up directly on Spotify website. If it is wrong, how to I contact Spotify to fix it? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the Spotify community.
You can contact support with this online form.
If you receive an automated email directing you to the community and/or help boards, make sure you reply directly to that email (even if it says it is no-reply) and an agent will get back to you as soon as possible.

  • IPhoto Library seems far too large

    Hi,
When I first loaded my images into iPhoto I thought what I wanted was to preserve the original file structure i.e. I keep all my images in a 'Digital Photos' folder, then broken down by year and date. So when I imported the library to iPhoto I unchecked +Copy Files To iPhoto Library.+
My iPhoto library seems just as large as my Digital Photos folder. I think now rather than have a separate folder, I'd rather just store the photos in iPhoto and half the disk space. So my two questions are:
    1) If I have a 'referenced library' of aliases which appears to be the case, why is the iPhoto library package so large regardless?
    2) If it were easier to use a managed library (no need for separate photos folder) how could I move all of my photos into iPhoto easily without having to erase my whole library, loosing my events and tags?
    Thanks for your help!

So when I imported the library to iPhoto I unchecked Copy Files To iPhoto Library.
As you probably know from reading this forum this is not a recommended way to use iPhoto - there are many drawbacks and over time it will create problems for you
    1) If I have a 'referenced library' of aliases which appears to be the case, why is the iPhoto library package so large regardless?
the iPhoto library contains an original of the photo (in you case this is just an alias since you are not copying items to the iPhoto library) in the originals folder, a thumbnail (very small) of the photo in the data folder, a copy of the latest modified photo in the modified folder if any edits or modifications have been made to the photo plus a database structure description file (library6.iPhoto) and some other support files - usually small
SInce your iPhoto library is large I assume that you have edited, rotated, cropped or otherwise modified many of your photos.
    2) If it were easier to use a managed library (no need for separate photos folder) how could I move all of my photos into iPhoto easily without having to erase my whole library, loosing my events and tags?
This is the recommended method of operation
TO go from a referenced library which you now have to to a managed library many people have been successful using Alias herder -http://www.rorohiko.com/aliasherder.html
Back up your iPhoto library in case of problems and run alias herder against the library - is will pull the oritinal photos into the library originals folder replacing the aliases and you will be fine if everything goes smoothly
And keep on backing up - it is important for any computer data
And strongly consider getting Old Toad's automator script and regularly backing up the database file, library6.iPhoto in addition to your regular full library backups

  • Apple Watch running accuracy

Curious to hear about other's early day experience with Apple Watch while running.  Results for me, relative to what I've seen using other devices or apps, are a bit all over the place.
For example, for a 7 mile run in 60 minutes for a 41-yr old male, 6'0 185 lbs:
    - Strava:             ~1000-1050 calories burned, avg heart rate ~ 140-150bpm (outdoors)
    - Life Fitness:     ~1000 calories burned (on a treadmill)
    - Nike+:              ~ 900-950 calories burned (outdoors)
    - Apple Watch:     690 calories burned, avg heart rate 190-210bpm (this is on a 'Run Outside' setting)
As an aside, I also tried it with Insanity for a 42-minute Plyo workout and only burned around 350 calories, which I could just about do walking (and break a much lighter sweat).
What are others seeing, and are there tricks to improve accuracy?  Thanks.

It is possible you are comparing apples to oranges. The “Workout” app reports active calories burned. The “Activity” app displays both the active and resting calories burned during the workout. The total calories burned during the workout will include both the resting and active calories. It's likely that the other devices you used include both. I assume the 690 calories you report are just the Active calories.
One example: I walked a 5.1 mile route at 4.3 mph and the workout app says I have burned 451 calories, but the Activity app also includes 130 calories of resting, for a total of 581 calories. I used an online calculator that uses my height, weight and age and it estimates I should burn 517 calories. The online calculator doesn’t use my heart rate or the elevation change during the walk, so it should be less accurate. The walk has an elevation gain of 600’, so it is logical that my calorie burn should be more than the online calculator. The watch appears to be fairly accurate in this example.
I have made this same walk four times using the watch and it has been within 6 calories each time… very precise!  My walking speed ranged from 4.1 to 4.3 mph on the four walks. I also have made two 6.3 mile hikes (with a 1300’ elevation change) and the watch calculated a total (resting plus active) of 850 and 828 calories (also quite close). The 850 burn was at a faster pace with a 128 bpm heart rate, compared to 115 bpm for the lower calorie burn, so the difference in the calories seems about right.
I put your statistics in the same calculator and it estimated a 966 calorie burn for your run (again, no heart rate info). I assume the 690 calories you report are just the Active calories, so that would require 276 resting calories to make up the difference. I am about the same height/weight as you and my resting calories for an hour would be a little over 100 calories, so 276 seems a little high. However, I am over 20 years older than you with a 50 bpm resting heart rate, so your resting calories would likely be higher due to your younger age (and possibly a higher resting heart rate). Given all this, I would say the watch may be slightly low in your case (assuming the online calculator is accurate), but the watch still seems more accurate than the other devices (assuming the 690 is only the active calories).
The only other thing that seems odd is the heart rate during the run… it seems very high. Do you think it is accurate? Are you using the “Power Saving Mode” in the Workout app? You can check this on the Watch app (on the iPhone) and look under the Workout app settings. The Power Saving Mode still measures your heart rate, but is less accurate than the default mode.
The most accurate way to measure calorie burn requires measuring your oxygen consumption, which has a direct relationship to calories. The Watch/iPhone (and all your other devices) use indirect methods to estimate calories. In general, a device that use heart rate, distance and elevation should be better than a device that only counts steps. However, I don’t really care if the results are completely accurate, as long as they are consistent. I simply want to be able to compare one workout with another. The Apple Watch has proven to be VERY consistent in my experience so far.

  • X64 kernel reserve size too high?

I'm not really a noob (2yrs on Arch...),  but maybe this question is. (Moderator move where you like..).
I upgraded my x32 system to x64 and now my fresh boot ram use is over ~300mb booted into openbox (~240mb booted to init 3), use to be ~200mb booted into openbox (~140 booted into init 3).
Here are some quick stats (let me know what more you need),

  • IPod Touch play count WAY too high

My 16GB 2G iPod Touch has a play count which is far too high. It is like 1500 for songs I have added today. Any way to solve this?
I have tried resetting the play counts, skip counts and restoring my iPod. No luck.

I'm having the same issue. I've got an iPod Touch 1G, fully updated. I'm seeing tracks that I've literally not played in weeks maybe even MONTHS come up with hundreds, and songs i've played maybe once or twice come up with thousands. I reset all the play counts to try again but it didn't make a difference, next thing i knew, a whole load of new tracks were up there in the thousands.
It's REALLY annoying, cause I've got a Most Played smart playlist, which doesn't really work in the first place as it doesn't update itself no matter how many times i plug my iPod into the computer, and even if it DID work, it wouldn't be very accurate, and I'd have a load of Janet Jackson interludes clogging up my most played, which gets annoying after a while, no matter how entertaining they are when they're part of the album!
    What can we do?!

  • Share to DVD - bitrate too high (Come on, Apple, get your stuff together)

I'm quite frusterated with Apple's decision to nix the burner on Macbook Pro laptops (as i'm sure many of us are), and I am also frusterated that they do not include something like iDVD to burn any more; but those issues are beside the point.
My problem is that I recieve an error telling me that my bitrate is too high when I attempt to "share" to a DVD. I do not have Compressor, and I should not have to spend an aditional $50 simply to execute a function that FCPX should do flawlessly in the first place.
I've used the free 'Burn' app, but it compresses the file to the point that it looks very unprofessional. I would like to maintain the HD quality. It's a 30 minute video, and that shouldn't be an issue.
    Video Format-
    Duration: 28:47
    1920x1080
    29.97p
    Media is Optimized
    Specs-
    MacBookPro 10,1
    Intel Core i7 2.7GHz
    16GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
    OSX 10.9.2
    FCPX 10.1.1

@BenB - I am unable to burn to HD or to my external drive. The specs of the drive are in the screenshot, but it is a ASUS-SBW-06DX2-U. I am certain that it is powered properly, and I am certain the drive functions properly.
@Russ H - I understand that I cannot maintain 1080, but what i'm getting with the 'Burn' software is far below acceptable. However, that's beside the point, as I do believe FCPX should burn properly with the workflow I'm using.
@Alchroma- The step-by-step is fairly simple, as I think Apple intended for it to be. I click on "Share", and then "DVD". You can see the rest in the screenshots. I select the settings I am offered, and click "Share" only to receive the error in the second screenshot
Thank you all for your responses. I am fairly confident that I am encountering some sort of glitch, but if this error is caused by my doing then I surely appreciate any and all advice. I'm just confused that I'm recieving a bitrate error without even being given the opportunity to select a bitrate... am I missing something?

  • Apple Watch band is too short for me

I've checked out size of band for Apple Watch and all of these model are too short for me. Even Classic Buckle that is the longest type of band in all family is still not fit. My wrist size is 230mm. Feel so sad...... Hope Apple will made longer band size in the next gen.

Let me try this again. (This is for a stainless 38).
I saw the specs on the band. I tried to use a tape measure to determine if it would fit, and I should have had help as that is hard to do alone. But is seemed alright, and I ordered the watch.
I am a watch junkie. I have never had a problem like this. You come to expect a certain "standard" when you buy a watch, and ALL of my watches have a longer
strap, and I guess (Shame on me) I assumed so would the Apple Watch.
The band fits, so to speak, but the part that is left after you pass it though the buckle, is not long enough, and the band keeper-loop thingey does not have enough band to keep it in place. Therefore you are constantly having to slide the loop back over it to keep it in place.
I could send it back, but you might imagine how I feel about that. I made sure I got mine on the 24th because I stayed up and ordered it right after midnight on the 10th. I really wanted the watch.

  • Apple Watch calorie burn

MY Apple Watch is showing a much lower calorie burn, about half, compared to equipment at my gym and other apps such as Runkeeper. Why is this? I was expecting a difference but not that much. For example of the cross trainer I work out for 40 minutes with my heart beat over 170, the cross trainer says 55o calories, the Runkeeper app is similar and the watch was 240 calories.

    Greetings Janebi1,
It seems you are concerned about the workout results after using your Apple Watch. The article below may help you calibrate your Apple Watch for better results:
Calibrating your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy - Apple Support
    Get the best measurement
Your Apple Watch will estimate your measurements during workouts based on the information that you entered during setup, but you can further improve its accuracy using these tips:
Wearing your Apple Watch regularly can improve the accuracy of the Activity and Workout apps.
Choose the Workout that best matches what you’re doing. For example, if you're running on a treadmill, choose Indoor Run.
For GPS accuracy when you walk, run, or cycle outdoors, select the appropriate Workout and bring your iPhone. This will also help calibrate the accelerometer in Apple Watch for times when you don’t have GPS, such as during treadmill workouts or when you're running outside without your phone.
To get the most accurate heart rate measurement when you use Workout, make sure your Apple Watch fits snugly on top of your wrist. The heart rate sensor should stay close to your skin.
You can also use another heart rate monitoring device, such as a chest strap. To pair an external heart rate monitor with your Apple Watch, tap the Settings app on the Home screen, then tap Bluetooth and select it under Health Devices. • Apple Watch band too small

I asked the Apple chat people if the Tim Cook Genius Division was working on a solution that will allow those of us that don't fit Apple's idea of who should buy and wear their Apple Watch, a way to wear the watch rather than put it in our pocket with our iPhone. They told me that there are no plans at this time to customize the Watch. I explained that I don't want to customize it I would just like to be able to wear it as it is marketed, on my wrist. They told me that in essence that would be customizing it. I am hoping that someone will realize that it would be very easy to make a Milanese Loop band longer or any of the bands for that matter. Why frustrate their public and lose sales. It doesn't make sense. I guess we can duct tape them on our wrist until young enthusiastic entrepreneurs start marketing bands that fit us. Now that will be customizing.

I visited the Apple Store today for my 15 minute try-on session.  Was very disappointed that every single band that I tried on did not fit.  I could not get my hand through the Milanese loop, the Black Leather band was too small by two holes and the Black magnetic link band actually fit but as soon as I started to bend my wrist, the band got looser and looser and then would just open and fall off.  Under normal all-day wear, I would surely loose the watch with this band because it does not loop around enough for my wrist.
What a shame that they are not making bands for people with larger wrists bones, fat wrists, skinny wrists, whatever!  They should accommodate all size people even if they only have those specialized sizes in very limited quantities.  If I have to wait 2-3 months for it, so be it!  at least I can still get one.

  • Apple watch workout is way off on calories

I've used the apple watch workout app and the approximate calories burned is way off from what it should be. Is there any way to calibrate it so it will be more accurate? It shows only about half the calories burned that I know it should be.

    Hi poolmanrob,
Yes, there is a way to calibrate your Apple Watch to improve the results shown in Workout and Activity.  By following the steps in the article linked to below, your Apple Watch will then be calibrated.

What do you want to access in "the cloud"?
Snow Leopard would be your next system upgrade and you should be OK with the CS3 applications, and Office 2008. I cannot confirm that the other applications will work.
This is quite old, but take a look or Google the other applications to see if they are compatible with SL.
