Apple WebDav Ical.. Does Apple have to be so pathetic?

You know, I migrated from multiple Windows and Linux based systems to MacBookPro's, Iphones, Ipad, etc. There are the things about Apple that
annoy us, but nothing could be more annoying than Apple finally coming up to
standard with ical WebDav support, THEN RESTRICTING CALENDAR SHARING TO only OTHER ACCOUNTS IN MOBILEME! It is pathetic. My wife has a Droid2. She can not see my calendar. She was able to before using a 3rd party product that worked fine.
So it appears it is time to dump MobileMe at $99/year, and use Google sync services. I can sync all my ical's with Google calendar, and there is no problem.
Yes, you can share with [email protected], but not [email protected].. Apple, you so suck!
I believe it is time to migrate to Android based tablets, Android phones, and Windows 7 on a free hypervisor like XEN, running centos linux, gives me the same as I have now.. except it is VMWARE on Mac OS X 10.6 and Win 7 as a client.
Apple is losing market share on iphones, and losing market share on tablets.
I have an Ipad v1, and instead of going for an IPad2 that still can't run FLASH, I think the Galaxy is looking pretty slick. Yes, I know... If you want it to "Just work" go Apple. But at some point, it just becomes to much of a price to pay. Hardware is always lagging, from processors to memory. I really have had enough. Now to ween my family off Apple... Well I weened them on... I really have a dislike for Google, so it pains me to have to leave Apple because of their greedy stupidity.
Sorry my wife don't like apple products. She should still be able to see my calendar. Not on MOBILEME. Yea, I could run my own caldav server, but that is not the point. Apple is restricting this because they are looking at revenue. Sadly, they are losing loyal customers. Just picked up the latest HTC Incredible for free from VZN. Slick!

Nerowolfe, thanks. I think that gets me on the right path. 2 more questions, though.
I assume as a non-techie I should use the default "Update" install. Is there any reason to consider the others?
If I clone every week instead of back up and always save the last three clones will I be OK if my computer goes into a coma? i.e. If I take my computer with a bad drive (or a new computer if the old is terminal) and my USB drive with the recent clones on it to a Mac geek he/she can restore my data?
Thanks for your help.
Geoff
If you have a full backup the Upgrade is fine. If you have any problems then go to the second option, Archive and install. As long as you have your original system backed up, have no fear
If you do not plan to use TM, then a clone when you need a new one is fine. I would suggest using two separate partitions or external drives so that you always have one clone extra just incase you create a clone and something happens (yes, stuff does happen ).
On my PC I use Ghost and always alternate backups. I never directly overwrite the last backup with the new one. Yes, I am a belt and suspenders person; but then I have had little problems with Leopard and even Vista 64-bit Ultimate on this same MBP. Attention to details is the key. That, and choosing wisely

    Hi Steve,
If this is dot mac or Mobile me you can still use IMAP eMail in the iCloud.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT - DO NOT TRY TO ALTER YOUR EXISTING ACCOUNT.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
        •    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 993
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
        •    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 587
        •    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...

  • ICal: does it have an agenda option??

Is there a way to show an agenda for all upcoming events in my iCal calendar (and also ALL my calendars?) ie: agenda??
Can't seem to find a way? Unless I missed it!

If you are asking about an AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, or Time Capsule.....the AirPort Express is the only Apple router that has an audio output jack. It provides both an analog and optical digitial output.

Why doesn't apple have a file of events that ties to the iCal program and the Address book file? By having that relationship it seems that you could call up all of the events tied to a customer while in the address book or likewise call up all of the events tied to a contact that was in the iCal program as a scheduled meeting. Even in the to do's you could easily look back at the events tied to an individual so as to bring yourself up to speed with what you were doing with the individual in mind.

I definitely understand your concern and I apologize for all the frustration. Verizon Wireless has a strong customer commitment to delivering the best from our service and staff. I am disappointed to hear the service you received did not reflect this commitment.
I definitely want to help get to the bottom of this and further assist you. Please reply to my direct message so I can access your account and further assist. I am sure we can get this resolved.

  • How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my bush LCD32TV022HD which does not have an HDMI port but does have 1)S-Video I/P, 2)Video I/P, 3) L

How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my BUSH LCD32TV022HD
This does not have an HDMI port but does have:-
    1) S-Video I/P,
    2) Video I/P,
    3) Audio Input (Left & Right)
    4) Audio In jack (for VGA and DVI source)
    5) DVI input
    6) VGA input

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The Apple TV doesn't officially support a DVI connection, however you may be able to get it to work. You will first need to check that your TV supports either 720p or 1080p as well as HDCP. If you are able to get the video working over the DVI connection, you may also require a DAC in order to connect with Apple TV's optical audio output to the TVs audio imput.
You may well wish to make sure that the DVI connection works before spending any money on a DAC..

    Hey Xxx_Dank_xxX,
Have you ever been able to sync your iPod shuffle to iTunes on your computer, or has something recently occurred?  Are you working with a Mac or a PC?   Without knowing what has been recommended to you, I'm going to start here with the basics troubleshooting for this issue.

I am having this same issue. Im not sure if this is the cause but I think this is keeping PowerDVD Ultra 11 from playing back Bluray under Windows 7 / Bootcamp

  • Why when I try to login the Itunes Connect with my Apple ID it always says: "Apple ID does not have permission to access iTunes Connect."?

Look on one of your bank statements and be sure to enter the billing address exactly as it shows on the statement. Some folks forget where they actually get the statement. They put their home address in iTunes/Mac App Store and they actually get the statement at their place of employment or vice versa.

  • The wifi available in the building I live in requires you to accept a user agreement each time you log on (obviously Apple TV does not have the option to display a browser webpage, so is there any other way to connect my Apple TV to the wifi??

    Hi guys,
I cannot get my Apple TV to connect to the only available wifi connection in my building.
Basically when I log on to it with other devices you have to type in a password (like all wifi connections) but then it opens a browser window with a user agreement that you have to accept each time you log on. Since Apple TV does not have a browser option I can't log it on.
Is there anyway around this issue???
Or is there anyway to get content from my iPad to display on my Apple TV without an Internet connection on the Apple TV???
    Thanks guys!

  • How do I connect  Apple 20" Cinema Display to orignal MacBook Air which does not have a Fire-Wire port. Is this possible? Any advice would be appreciated. I have the Micro-DVI to DVI adapter. Norm

I Wish to connect my 6 year old Apple 20" Cinema Display to an orignal MacBook Air which does not have a Fire-Wire port. Is this possible? Any advice would be appreciated. I have the Micro-DVI to DVI adapter. Norm

The FireWire cable is just for the FireWire ports on the display.  The display will run without it.

  • Can I Hook an Apple TV to an older TV that does not have HDMI Ports using a connector cable

I have an older Sony HD TV and would like to hook my Apple TV to that TV but it does not have HDMI Ports.  Can I hook my Apple TV to this TV through a cable adapter that converts HDMI to Component Video and Audio (Red Green Blue Video Cables, Yellow White Audio) or HDMI to S-Video.  I have both these connections on my TV.  Thanks

Thanks, I actually meant a converter box I just wanted to make sure that using that would work.  With Amazon FireTV Sticks for example I  jhave been told that only a direct HDMI connection to the TV would allow the device to work at all.

  • How can I find what apple ID I used to register my iMac when I first booted up? I am being told that by using this ID I will be able to go on to the App store and down load iPhoto at no cost. Is this true? My iMac does not have iPhoto resident on it now

Is this true? My iMac does not have iPhoto resident on it now and I only purchased my new iMac in December 2012
    Thanks....

Launch Keychain Access and click on Login in the left hand pane and then on Passwords.  Next do search for Apple in the search field at the top and click on Apple ID Authenicication in the list that comes up.  That will give you the ID no. and password.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • My Mac has FaceTime 2.0 and it is terrible, I tried to download a new copy but the apple store does not have 2.0 Also I chat was the way I communicated before I upgraded. What happened?

I upgraded to Lion X and have been having problems with FaceTime my version is 2.0 and the Apple store does not have this version, what happened to the changes, I used to use IChat and it was great, this is no longer available. Any hints for video conferencing or for what is going on.

You can video conference with the iChat component of Messages. Not sure if that's possible with Facetime. I have been using Facetime for video chat without any problems. Quality is no different than with iChat.

My Macs are too old to mirror but I might have used it to mirror DVDs if I could.  I saw this with AirParrot too.
I think Apple prevents low level display buffer access to areas used by its apps that may be showing protected content - you get a grey/white checkerboard pattern when you mirror - same proabbly applies to playback of iTunes DRM video.  Try screengrabbing for example.
For DVD playback, I believe VLC will mirror ok.
