Apple website now offering "unlocked and contract free" iphone 6

Is this really factory unlocked or just an editorial change on website?

If you want your phone to work in a particular country, buy it in that country.  Apple phones are designed to work in certain countries.  They may work in other countries, but with reduced functionality.  Also, your warranty and service are available ONLY in the country where the phone was originally purchased (with the EU considered one country).

If I buy an unlocked and contract-free iPhone 4s for my T-mobile sim, do i need to cut my sim.

Beyond what had been said about unlocked phones and limitations of iPhones on the T-Mobile network, T-Mobile appears to sell microSIMs:

I am not a T-Mobile customer so best to call them and ask.

  • When will the unlocked and contract free iPhone 5 be available, and what is the price going to be

Im From Georgia(Republic of), and im wondering when will the unlocked and contract free version on the new iPhone 5 be available, and is the price going to be the same as iPhone 4S's($650)? IF it will be available for pre-ordering i want to buy one.

Assuming you are referring to the US, no one knows for sure but probably 4 to 6 weeks after the release of the iPhone 5 for the same price as the 4s.

  • Will the iphone 6 plus work in pakistan if i buy the unlocked and contract free version from the apple store?

will the iphone 6 plus work in pakistan if i buy the unlocked and contract free version from the apple store? why is t mobile written on top of the button? it is so confusing no one will give me a straight answer on this. if i buy that one, would there be any monthly charges involved or not?

Are you planning on flying to and visiting the US?  That is the only way you are going to get an iPhone from the Apple store because you will not be able to purchase one from the Apple store online and get it sent to Pakistan - it can't be done and Apple online stores will not ship internationally.
You have not got a straight answer to this question because there is none.  The phone has T-Mobile on the top button, because it is a T-Mobile phone and although sold as contract free, but NOT unlocked - notice the difference, it still comes with a T-Mobile sim card.
The phone may or may not work in Paskistan and if you do buy the phone, to ensure that it has the best possible chance of working is to take the T-Mobile sim card out of the phone first and DO NOT activate the phone using the T-Mobile sim.  If you want to use it in Pakistan, then activate it with your local Pakistan sim card and you will not be paying any charges to T-Mobile if you do this.  If you do happen to accidentally activate the phone with the T-Mobile sim card in it, then you will have a contract with them and yes, you will have a monthly bill with T-Mobile and you will need to keep this contract for 40 days, until you can get the phone unlocked by them.
Also note, that if you buy the phone it may not work on 4G networks in Pakistan due to frequency differences and also you will have no warranty cover for the phone in Pakistan - iPhone warranty is NOT international, so country of original purchase, so the US, which means you have to fly back there - no postage accepted.
So basically, the phone should work in Pakistan, but not on the 4G networks and you need to take the T-Mobile sim card out before you activate it and activate it using a local sim card and you will have NO warranty cover for the phone in Pakistan.

  • Iphone 6 (T-Mobile) officially listed as "UNLOCKED and contract free"

For everyone asking if the T-Mobile version is factory unlocked, it is now officially official from Apple.  On the online store, the T-Mobile version is now listed as "unlocked and contract free" as opposed to simply "contract free" as before.

Yes, I ordered mine two days ago and it is in process of being shipped (order cannot be cancelled).  Due to arrive December 19 at the latest.

  • If I buy an iPhone 4S (the unlocked and contract-free version), do I need to add a microSIM card if I just want to use it as an iPod Touch?

If I buy an iPhone 4S (the unlocked and contract-free version), do I need to add a microSIM card if I just want to use it as, essentially, an iPod Touch? I'll probably get a microSIM card eventually, but I just need the wi-fi based technology now. Anyone know?

It will not do anything (other than call 911) until you activate it with a microSIM. Look into an iPod Touch instead.

  • I'm interested in iPhone 5s Unlocked and contract-free T-Mobile. It will work in Russia, with Russian nano-SIM card GSM?

I'm interested in iPhone 5s Unlocked and contract-free T-Mobile. It will work in Russia, with Russian nano-SIM card GSM?

Depends on what you mean by "fully operational". As i"ve stated, the phone most likely will not support LTE where you live, & unless you're using a supported iPhone carrier, you'll have to fiddle with the APN settings.
But, an unlocked GSM iPhone will work with any GSM carrier.

  • What is the difference between unlocked and contract free

    hello
i want to know what is the difference between unlocked iphone and contract free iphon?

Unlocked means that you can use any sim card in the phone all the time and keep swapping and the phone will still work.  You will pay full price for the phone.
Contract actually means that you will buy the phone for the full price, but the phone will then become locked to the first carrier whos sim card you insert into the phone and if you want to use another sim card, you'll need to get the phone unlocked from that carrier.
If you want an unlocked phone, then buy an unlocked phone and not a contract free phone - if you pay full price for the phone it's a no brainer to buy anything less.

  • Is there any difference between an unlocked and sim free iPhone?

Is there any difference between an unlocked and sim free iPhone?

I think in the context you're using, they are pretty much the same thing. The only carrier on the planet as of this writing with the CDMA iPhone, which does not use SIM cards AT ALL, is Verizon in the U.S.
There is a difference between an unlocked iPhone and an iPhone sold without a contract, but still locked to a carrier.
This list details all of the currently supported iPhone carriers. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937
Some carriers sell phones that are NOT carrier locked (i.e. SIM FREE). Some sell locked phones, but offer unlocking services for their subscribers. In SOME countries, unlocked phones can be purchased directly from Apple. Apple also sells locked phones, that do not require a term commitment with the carrier at what is usually the same price as an unlocked phone.

  • Using AT&T prepaid nano sim card on unlocked and sim free iPhone 6

I'm currently a Boost Mobile customer and planing to get a unlocked and sim free iPhone 6 (model:A1586). If I buy AT&T prepaid nano sim card, will this work? How do I activate the sim card with keeping my current phone number?

It should work, You are going to have to contact AT&T and have the number ported to your AT&T gophone account.

  • Is there a difference between T-Mobile unlocked and SIM free

I ordered 2 iPhone 5s handsets a couple of weeks ago to use them outside the US, they are unlocked and contracts free a few days ago Apple announced the availability of SIM free phones.
Will they work with any GSM carrier, pr do I have to return them and order SIM free ones?

Sim free just means they have no sim card inside.
They are the exact same phone as before. The ones you ordered will come with a T-Mobile sim card , but you can just take it out and place one from your chosen carrier inside instead.

  • Help with buying contract-free iPhone 5S with T-MOBILE $30.00 prepaid plan

Ok, I just want to clarfiy
    If I purchase a T-MOBILE contract-free iPhone 5S from Apple here http://store.apple.com/us/buy-iphone/iphone5s
will I be able to get the T-MOBILE plan listed here with the Nano sim I receive from my iPHONE 5S from Apple http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans
"$30 per month—Unlimited web and text with 100 minutes talk
100 minutes talk | Unlimited text | First 5 GB at up to 4G speeds
This plan is only available for devices purchased from
Wal-Mart or devices activated on T-Mobile.com"
or will I have to get a nano sim here http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/sim-card#close-cart
and then activate online on tmobile.com to get the prepaid plan for $30.00?

No, the SIM card included with the T-Mobile phone on the Apple site does not allow you to activate for the $30 prepaid, as there is no "activation code" provided with the phone and you need a code for prepaid activation on the T-Mobile site. As you know T-Mobile store will not help you with this plan.
I just did this. (1)  I went on Apple store site and purchased an iPhone 5c selecting the T-Mobile "unlocked and contract-free SIM-Free" option.
    (2) You also need to go on T-Mobile and buy the (so called) "activation kit"  http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/sim-card ; select the "Nano Sim Card"  "Phone" then "Add to cart". This is currently free, so I got 2, in case. It took about 3 business days to receive the package via UPS.
The package has instructions, but does not mention the $30 option (it is not widely advertised in T-Mobile as you know). However, no problem, it will become available during activation.
    (3) Now replace the SIM card that you received from Apple with the SIM card you received from T-Mobile.
    (4) Before you start the activation process, write down clearly (and double check)  the "activation code" found in the T-mobile activation kit, the "SIM card serial number" found in the kit as well and the "Phone serial number (IMEI)" found on the iPhone box you received from Apple.
    (5) Go to T-Mobile "Activate your new phone"  https://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/ActivateCodes.aspx  and enter those 3 numbers, very carefully. (I have heard any mistake may stop the process and you need a new SIM card to restart).
In the next screen, you will pick the plan (all prepaid plans are showing, including the $30 100 min / unlimited text / web, but beware as there is another $30 for 1500 min, no web) and then a phone number (or transfer your phone number) - when you click "next" you actually receive a text message on the phone right away! In the next screen you enter your payment information (debit, credit or purchased prepaid card), then you are done.
    (6) I actually went back to my-t-mobile.com to create a login - pw so I can change my payment method later and see the data and minutes used.
No need to adjust any APN settings. Got LTE in my area and internet speed clocks at an amazing 32.77 Mbps Download. ENJOY!

if i buy a T-mobile's unlocked, contract-free iPhone 6 in US at Apple's website, can i use it in China with a local carrier?

The Model 1586 / 1524 happens to be the one most compatible with China
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
If the phone is primarily for use in China - I would look to getting an unlocked version of that
There are contradicting theories about Sprint for international use - so I would stay away from the Sprint model in the US
