Apple -- why no answer to multiple sleep/password problems?

The issue:
My problem, like many others have reported, is simply that one day my Mac decided to ignore the "Security" checkbox to require a password after screen saver or sleep. I've tried changing everything I've seen in every thread so far (change desktop, fix disk permissions, uncheck/reboot/recheck, delete plist files).
The (well deserved) rant:
There are at least a dozen unresolved threads related to Macs suddenly deciding NOT to ask for passwords after sleep or screensavers. And far as I can tell Apple is using the Ostrich approach to supporting this issue -- head firmly in sand.
Macs used to be the "secure" alternative. But a flaky / inconsistent handling of when a password is asked for is NOT a minor irritation, it's an outright security issue.
MacFixit.com has been tracking this issue since Dec 2005. No aknowledgement or fix from Apple all this time?
Apple, when did you stop caring? About the time your stock hit $50?

Thanks for the reply. If MacFixIt is tracking the issue, it's probably more than me and a dozen unlucky souls.
New accounts display the same issue (admin or not, I tried both).
All 4 of my Macs used to work correctly, too.
I have no 3rd party hacks or widgets. Can't find any clues in the console logs, either. And have installed zero new software (other than apple updates) since back when it was working. It just stopped working.

Most problems at this point are due to not correctly implementing the same wireless network security protocol and password on both the wireless router and the Airport Express. What method are you using (WEP or WPA)? If you have the option on your wireless router, select WPA with TKIP encryption.
I changed the security setting on the DGN from WPA2-PSK (AES) to WPA-PSK (TKIP) and it worked.
I wondering why it does’t work with WPA2-PSK (AES) and also why there is no mention of this easily found in the so called setup manual or elsewhere.

The WPA wireless security equivalents for AirPort & other manufacturers routers are as follows:
WPA - Non-Apple: WPA-PSK (TKIP) = Apple: WPA/WPA2 Personal
WPA2 - Non-Appler: WPA-PSK (AES) = Apple: WPA2 Personal
In theory, when you first attempted to join the DGND's Wi-Fi network with the AirPort Express, it should have recognized the wireless security type as WPA2 Personal when it encountered your router's WPA2-PSK (AES) setting. However, it may also fall back to WPA/WPA2 Personal which (in theory) attempts to connect with AES first, then TKIP when that fails. Note: AES is a much stronger encryption key vs. TKIP.
It may just be possible that the AES implementation for each router is just off enough to make that setting incompatible.

Sleep password problem

I have "Require password to wake computer from sleep" set to on (in System Preferences/Security). If I sleep the computer manually, it works correctly - it requires the password. However, if the computer is left idle and is put to sleep by Energy Saver, it does not require the password when I wake it up - the screen comes on immediately. (Note that sleep works perfectly in every other way - it sleeps on time, and it doesn't wake up by itself.)
This problem started happening only recently - perhaps after the 10.4.5 update or the Security Update 2006-001 (it's still a problem after 2006-002). I think this is a new bug, but if anyone has any ideas to fix it...

2. Perhaps some background process is constantly writing to one of the Console logs, preventing sleep.
Check the Console logs for clues, specifically repeating blocks of messages that recur high frequency.
3. What peripherals are connected to the computer? State specific makes and models. For example, a Canon scanner or an HP All-In-One printer by chance? A KVM switchbox?

Apple worked on my Mac to fix password problem and lost all my bookmarks. Is there a way to get them back? I have tried talking to apple tech. They can't help

I had a problem with not being able to send emails from certain sites. I pd a tech at apple to fix it. They couldn't so went to apple store. They erased all pass words in administrator and on firefox. Somehow then they did they they erased all my book marks which were pretty important to me. I didn't have them back up that I am aware of. Now apple said they can't do anything to find them. I searched around and found a few under different things and several were just codes.
Is there anyway to restore my book marks?

If you use the Time Machine on your computer then you can try to find an older copy of the places.sqlite file.

[M73-SFF] - multiple sleep mode problems

My new ThinkCentre M73-SFF will not enter into sleep mode. It also will not stay in sleep mode when I manually put it into sleep mode. It regularly would go into sleep mode when I first purchased it but not so now. I have searched on the net but cannot find any solutions. I have disables the screen saver thinking this was a problem but it did not solve the problem. Anyone know of a solution?

THANK YOU @someotherguy for explaining the problem. This solved all my issues, also for a newly bought laptop. The more recent Windows 7 updates solve the issue by subsuming the fingerprint manager update under the system updates. I know this because it's definitely a different version of fingerprint manager from when I first bought the device last week.
Nevertheless, this is far more useful and informative than the helpdesk chat support personnel I spoke to.

In Firefox all browser windows and tabs use the same cookies that will identify you to the server.
If you open a different account then existing cookies are send to the server and the server sees that you already signed on (authenticated).
You can look at one of these if you want to sign on with different identities at the same time:

The email is sent to your recovery email. That email is not the same as your Apple ID. If you haven't assigned one with your Apple ID do so here > https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

HT5622 I've changed my Apple ID email and its all verified ok but on my iPhone 5 every time I go to update an App or buy an App it comes up with my old Apple ID and asks me for a password. Why doesn't it have my new ID because on Apple ID link it does?

I've changed my Apple ID password and when I go to the Apple ID link the changes have been emailed and are all verified. However, when I try to do something with an App or iTunes etc on my iPhone 5 it still comes up with my old Apple ID and asks me for the password and I don't have the option to overtyped the Sppld ID section with the new email I've set. I can't update Apps or buy Apps because of this. Any ideas?

Sign out and back into your apple id from Settings>iTunes and App stores>(Your apple ID)>Sign Out and then sign in again with the new address. Close app store from running in the background (or restart the phone if your unsure how to do this). If when trying to update any apps they are still asking for the old apple ID, delete and re-install those apps.

actually i found out how to fix it
1 sign out of apple account
2 close down passbook app
3 change year to 2013
4 reopen passbook and sign in at the button with your apple ID
5 change the time to auto update and it should work from now on.

I restored my iphone 4s but i can not activate my iphone because aasking me for the id apple. I went to the webpage i select resert my passowrd via e mail i received the e mail but when i selected resert my password nothing comes up the webpage is blank??? any ideas what happened or do i need to contact apple to ask to esent a temporaly password via e mail?

This usually means that the appleid is not there anymore.
By this I mean you may have changed it unknowningly
If you had a non email address username and have edited you account recently more than likely it has updated your apple id to that email address (user login).
Or you have changed your prmiary email address and it has now changed your apple id to that as you login username.
