Apple Xsan is only compatible with Apple XserverRaid?

Our System configuration is
Apple G5 2.5 Quad 3ea
Xserver2.3 Dual ClusterNode 1ea
Final Cut Pro 5.04 3ea
Xsan 1.3 4ea
OS X 10.4.7
AJA LHe 3ea
San Switch MacData Sphereon 4400 12ports (4GB)
Fibre Channel HBA ATTO Celerity FC-42XS (4GB)
Rorkedata HDX Storage 2ea(Single Controller Serial-ATA Type 2GB)
Rorkedata HDX Storage
I configured storage by this way
one
2Bays -> metadata (Raid 1)
14Bays -> seperate 7Bays and 7Bays (Raid 5)
the other
2Bays -> spare HDD
14Bays -> seperate 7Bays and 7Bays (Raid 5)
Using Data format is DV50
I did the speed test with AJA HDD Bench Tools, the result is write 190Mbps, Read 210Mbps.
But, I got the message "Dropped framed occured" when I do the capturing and Editing simultaneously.
I asked to apple people, they told me that Apple XSAN only supports the Apple XserveRaid, not Third-party
Products. I am really wondering it is true or not.
And, What is the best system to configure SAN with Apple XSAN?
Apple G5 2.5 Quad 3ea   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Final Cut Pro 5.04 3ea

We've got a similar setup with some Rorke arrays and really had no problems so far (aside from the usual XSAN 1.3 stuff). The reason we went for Rorke and not for the XRaid is simple: Apple doesn't have 4gig yet and we really need the bandwidth to get decent 2K playback.
We've never really had dropped frames as far as I know. Did you try having it as a 'normal' disk array, so just directly attached and HFS+ formatted? If it shows dropped frames there as well you might want to check your cabling or controller/array.

    My MacBook died and my hard drive was removed, are my existing files only compatible with Apple products? Are the files encrypted with Apple OS or am I able to import my files to Microsoft programs?

    The drive as a whole can’t be read on a PC without installing software such as MacDrive on it.
    The answer varies for individual document files; some file formats can be read by Windows software, while others can't.

    Nothing.  The 2nd Gen Touch is OBSOLETE and is WAY past its support life.  If you want to run the newer apps you have to buy a newer iPod.

  • Is the ZAGG keys Universal Keyboard compatible with Apple TV?

      is the ZAGG keys Universal Keyboard compatible with Apple TV?

    The ZAGG keys Universal Keyboard  is  a Bluetooth keyboard that the manufacturer states is "compatible with most IOS devices"  but does not list Apple TV specifically, though the the different  IPADS that are compatible are listed.
    I did contact the manufacturer through an online Sales Associate Chat on their website and ironically they could not answer me.   They did take my email and stated they will research and get back to me.  That was only yesterday, 10/7/13 so I will give it a few days.
    I know there are other keyboards available, so maybe I will just research a little more.

  • Aperture is not compatible with Apple TV

    Apple Support has confirmed that the preview function in Aperture is not compatible with Apple TV.  Don't buy Aperture if you want the same resolution on Apple TV!  Stick with iPhoto!!

    Works fine here, but must note that only a single Aperture Library can be selected, and this is to the exclusion of the iPhoto Library.
    Right-click on the Aperture Library and choose Show Package Contents.  Look for the iPod Photo Cache folder, and open it.  Is it populated by lots of subfolders, which in turn have content?  What is the date that the iPod Photo Cache was last modified.  You may not be able to check this now, having dumped Aperture, as you say.
    This folder is the source of what iTunes will see for sharing.  It probably can be removed, and then rebuilt by selecting what to Share.  Or maybe just removing its contents, and rebuild the selections.  But there is one per Aperture Library, and one in the iPhoto library, which is why only one source can be used to sync.

    To the best of my knowledge, it isn't. The 3rd-gen iPad supports LTE only on AT&T and Verizon in the US:

    International LTE support came only with the 4th-generation iPad, unless the information I reference from Apple is incorrect/incomplete.

  • I have an Acer external hard drive 500GB.  Is it compatible with Apple MacBook Pro laptop?

    I have an Acer external hard drive 500GB.  Is it compatible with Apple MacBook Pro laptop?

    There are only a handful or Hard Drive mechanism manufacturers left. Acer is not one of them, although they may make the enclosure (but probably not that either). So in essence you have a Brand-X enclosure with some sort of Hard Drive inside.
    Most of those work fine once they are re-Initialized for use on the Mac. For me, I prefer to use the Re-purposing of a drive as an opportunity to re-write every block with Zeroes (which can take several hours but can be done in the background), assuring that every block is good.

    Mac OS X 10.7 requires an Intel i3, i5, i7, Core 2 Duo and 2 GB ram...to download you need to call Apple at 1-800-MY-APPLE and pay $20 for a download code for the Mac App Store.

    Why are the application in the apple store are not compatible with the iPod touch 4g? Apple please realize there are some of us who still have the iPod touch 4g! I just want to know.

    Once I find the game i will truly screenshot that it states "not compatible for these models". I just find it RIDICULOUS that my iPod touch is in good condition and some of the applications that I want download sometimes are not compatible with my iPod touch 4g. I am not going to buy an ipod 5th generation if my 4g is still going strong since the year of 2010.

  • Is my CRT TV compatible with Apple TV?

    I have a Toshiba 24" (model 24AF42) television with a component video input. It is 3:2, but it displays widescreen DVD's properly. Would it be compatible with Apple TV? It apparently has 525 lines of resolution, if that's helpful.

    Thanks for replying, Gino. I've been watching DVD's for years on this TV, and I have the black bars on top and bottom of widescreen movies. On fullscreen 4:3 movies there are no bars, it fills up the screen.
    But the setting for that is on my DVD player. It specifically has 3 options- Standard 4:3, Letterbox 4:3, and Widescreen 16:9. I have it set to Standard 4:3 on my DVD player, and that makes fullscreen movies display with no black bars, filling the whole screen and widescreen movies display with black bars.
    I think Winston is on the right track, too. If I did connect an Apple TV to my TV using the Component Video Input, it would display with the right and left sides of widescreen movies cut off.
    I wouldn't be watching widescreen movies from my Apple TV, though. Maybe eventually when I upgrade my TV, but for now what I want to use Apple TV for is for displaying my photos from iPhoto, watching movies I've created in iMovie, and watching a few (30 or so) music videos I have purchased from ITMS. And of course playing my iTunes music library.
    Does anyone know how the Apple TV menu would look on a 4:3 ratio TV? If I'm going to be scrolling through my iTunes library, using menus etcetera, I don't know if the menu or submenu text would be cut off. I also don't know if my photos would display properly. The digital photos are all in 4:3 ratio, I haven't taken any pictures in widescreen mode on my camera yet.
