Apple you wrecked Final Cut X- How to go back to previous version?

Dear Apple Final Cut Developers,
This latest version of Final Cut X 10.1.1 is a disaster.  It is riddled with bugs, it crashes, and is slow.  It is not ready for production.
Let me start by saying that I loved this product and we have cut over 25 half hour weekly television shows with it.  After coming back from the holidays I was horrified to find out that my systems had automatically upgraded and that you had completely revamped the file system to libraries.  Not a good move in a production enviroment.  But worst is that this upgrade is riddled with bugs.  I am constantly having to wait on the system before I can start scrubbing, the audio gets out of sync, and every time I have to go back to a previous show for a clip on another drive I have to wait 5 minutes for the system to load tons of media that I don't need.  This kind of buggy product just doesn't work in a production enviroment!!!
Please tell me how I can go back and load the previous version to use until you can get this fixed??
Note that I am editing on a maxed out iMac with 32GB of RAM and the 3.2GHX Core i5 with the latest operating system.  This system used to be very fast and editing was a pleasure till you wrecked it.

Sorry to hear this. What have you tried in the way of troubleshooting? Have you tried running from a new user account ?
This really isn't the best place to reach out to Apple. It's a user-to-user forum. A very long shot, but you could contact an Apple retail store and possibly they'll be able to help…but that assumes you didn't update your project and events if you need to work on any of those shows.
For some time, contributors here and other FCP forums have reminded people to follow Apple's best updating practices and archive the pre-update version of the app as well as their projects and events. Absent those archives, there is also the possibility of doing a restore from Time Machine (or some other BU utility), if used.
Best of luck.

I got a notice this week to up,date this changed my iPad to something that I really don't like how do I go back to precious version?

  • Random crashes after upgrade; how to switch back to previous version Firefox

First of all Firefox upgraded itself without asking, even though I did not give any approval or command to go ahead. Since my HW is a bit older, I do not want to go for any SW upgrades of my infrastructure SW, except essential tools for my work. 99% of time upgraded SW will need/ use up more resources and slow down the performance while providing "NEW" features or enhancements which I may not even want unless I upgrade my HW. Now I am prone to more crashes when I have scores of tabs in 3 or 4 windows, which is normal for my concurrent processing mind; as often my searches result in things that I cannot finish reading/followup in a day. Although I do bookmark a lot too, but one has to remember to do it; whereas a Tab is open there to REMIND me to read or followup.
Secondly, Then there is no easily visible way or button to switch back to the "previous" version of Firefox; i.e. to undo the Upgrade. Very disappointing and frustrating !! What happened to customer-oriented thinking ?
Adobe behaves better, I have been saying NO to its upgrade question a zillion times, without unchecking "Remind Later" box. And it did not upgrade automatically in last 2 yrs. Only when I pressed ENTER with its button in focus, did it go ahead and upgrade itself (even that was unwittingly done, but at least it WAS my action).

Go to Tools>Advanced>Firefox updates - and check as you wish for the future.
Going back to an earlier version is never a good idea for security reasons.

  • FInal Cut X and 3rd Party Plugins from Previous Versions

    will they be compatible?
i've got plenty of 3rd party plugins i've normally used with fcp 6.
will i be able to use them with fcp x ? or is it a completely new platform?
    cheers.

I've said it elsewhere, but using FCX is like being asked to carve a roast and being handed knife purposely dulled to keep me from hurting myself.
However, while it is not a viable tool for the broadcast professional, I am sure there are many professionals who can use it to do their job.
To the OP, FCP 6 plugins, will work in FCP 7.

As for plugins, FCP X uses a whole new underlying framework, totally, radically different technologies under the hood than legacy FCP 7 versions.  So those plugin developers will have to port their wares over to the new platform.

This is in fact, largely untrue. FCX effects are Motion wrappers, often interfaces directly to FxPlug plugins that have  been around since Motion started. The FxPlug plugins developed for earlier versions of the software need to be rebuilt with the new frameworks and Motion wrappers constructed, but FxPlug 2 is not radically different technology from FxPlug 1.2.5.

  • I hate version 4, tell me how to get back to previous version of Firefox or I'm going to IE !!!

Version 4 is awful, I hate it and will NOT use it.

Firefox is highly customizable and you may be able to customize it to meet your needs.
If you do not like the new UI, you can make Firefox 4 look and behave more like Firefox 3.6, for details see http://www.computertechtips.net/64/make-firefox-4-look-like-ff-3-6
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • Anyone figure out how to roll=back to previous version iPhone OS?

3.0 just doesn't get it for me. This past week I've completely reset my iPhone 7 times. This is just nuts. Wifes phone is doing exactly the same thing.
Apps crash immediately, reboot the iPhone takes about 15 minutes to come back, apps still crash, rebuild fixes it but it comes right back.

Do you mean a 'reset' or 'restore as new'? The two are vastly different, although either may work.
A reset is pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
A restore is done through iTunes on your computer.
Also, you wouldn't happen to be Jim North from DeSoto and TAMU would you?

  • How to revert back to previous version of Internet Explorer (Windows 7)

    Hi,
I recently ran updates on my computer and IE 7 was taken up to IE 9. I had CCTV plugins that dont work with IE 9 (I find out too late) so now I want to revert to IE 7 or IE 8. No download that I can find for either IE 7 or IE 8 will run on Windows 7. Both
throw up a library error. Can anyone suggest a solution please. My Windows 7 Ultimate had IE 7 intalled from the box - so it will obviously run. I can remove IE 9 for the Control Panel - but that is about it. I don't belive that the only option would be to
completely reinstall Windows to slove the issue - and would it even activate a second time?

IE9 IS the problem.  We have three DVR camera systems which cannot be accessed through IE9.  The DVR manufacturer admits the problem!
So explain exactly what it is about IE9 that makes it unable to access the DVR camera systems?
Provide detail of exactly why IE9 is the problem.
Looks like you are really a newbie about using browsers who is just learning how to use IE.Its weird that you are expecting Batteryjer will be knowing the exact root cause problem. FYI I've the same issue but in different context.
I'm using Pega PRPC  which was working fine with Internet Explorer 7 and 8. But with the latest update of Internet Explorer 11 (which happened automatically without my knowledge), I'm not able to use this pega software properly as many menu items doesn't
show up.When I play around with F12 Developer Tools (located in Tools) and change the Interent Explorer version from 11 to  8, 7, most of the menu options of Pega appears correctly in browser screen. If you really want to know the exact cause , go back
to your computer and try to play and learn..
I can say that IE is becoming more carp and crap with every update and there is PROBLEM WITH INTERNET EXPLORER with every update.Still I want to rollback my IE from 11 to 8 without using Developer Tool.

How do you import final cut pro projects into imovie?
(like you create a project in final cut but i want to save it, and import it into imovie..

    Hi -
Mr. Ross is right, there is no direct way to export your project with all it's elements into iMovie.
If, on the other hand, you have a completed sequence in FCP that you want to export as a finished element, then import into iMovie for you to re-edit or apply titles, music, etc. you would:
    In FCP:
Click on the Sequence Icon you want to export in your browser.
Go to the menu File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Give your movie a name a navigate to where you want it stored. Make sure you choose Settings: Current Settings and have the Make Movie Self Contained checked. Click Save.
    Close FCP and open iMovie.
    In iMovie:
Go to the menu File > Import > Movies and navigate to the movie you just exported from FCP. Choose if you want your movie imported in it's original size, etc.
Click Import. Your movie will be imported into iMovie.
Note that using this method only gives you only the elements that made up your FCP sequence, so this may not give you the flexibility you need.
    Hope this helps.

  • Send to Apple TV From Final Cut Server

This was pretty simple, but clients really seem to appreciate having the functionality. Basically all you have to do is follow these steps to create a checkbox that can send any asset to your Apple TV for client viewing.
    1. Create the field "Send to Apple TV".
    2. Add that field to your Asset Search MD group and the MD goup that you wish people to access it in.
    3. Create a Final Cut Server Playlist in iTunes
    4. Open Automator in OSX. Create a Folder Action using the "Add Songs to Playlist" action from iTunes.
    - Choose your Final Cut Server Playlist
    5. Assign the folder action to a folder of your choice.
    6. Create a Device "Apple TV" in Final Cut Server that points to that folder.
    7. Create a transcode setting for "Apple TV H.264" and import to Final Cut Server
    - Assign this transcode setting to your Apple TV Device
    8. Create a "Send to Apple TV" Copy Response
    - The destination device is "Apple TV"
    - Transcode Setting is "Apple TV H.264"
    9. Open Itunes on the Final Cut Server
    - Setup your Apple TV
    - Have the Apple TV automatically get the latest files from your Final Cut Server Playlist and send them to your Apple TV.
    Done!

Good job Jason. About time to you contributing back to the community that's been so good to you.
Now how do you get the Apple TV box to automatically query FCSvr directly?

  • How can I open a project made in 2000 on Final Cut Pro to migrate it to a new version?

how can I open a project made in late 2000 on Final Cut Pro to migrate it to a new version to finish editing it? files, timeline and unfinished edit are all stored on hard drive since early 2001, with all the original miniDV tapes still in hand

Do you still have legacy FCP? If you not you need to find someone who will open the project in FCP6.0.6 or later. Export an XML file of the project. Use 7toX to convert it to an XML format that works with FCPX. Import the converted XML file to FCP.

  • Just Curious...when editing small projects do you use Final Cut or iMovie?

I need to learn how to edit in final cut, just wondering how much of a learning curve there is and what people's preference would be...editing in FC or iMovie 09
    thanks

    small, quick 'n dirty = iM09
    advanced, elaborated (=compositings, 'grading', SpecialFX) = FC/e4
esp, from iM09>>FC the learning curve is extreme! FC is a professional tool, no 'one click done', needs a lot of background knowledge, how things are done (=not the app, the concept ..)
I'm using both, simultanously for some projects - iM09's 'skimming' is an excellent tool for a 'rough pre-cut', .. and I LOVE the green-screen effect in iM, compared to less-intuitive color-key in FC/e ...
but, the more you get used to FC's interface, the faster you're working with it. => I would love to see an optional 'quick edit mode' in FC/e as in iM! both apps are from the same master-mind, greetings to Randy U.!

  • Apple Puts Legacy Final Cut Studio Back on Sale

    http://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/01/apple-puts-legacy-final-cut-pro-studio-back- on-sale/

IMHO, this whole debacle was the result of political maneuvering by a pack of arrogant but inexperienced marketing types who've become enchanted with (what they see as) their successes in the "iToy" arena where there is little precedent and virtually no competition for their products. Jake and Elwood could have marketed those products with the same results...
Thank goodness there are still a few Computer Professionals left at Apple who understand how  they arrived at this point in their history: solid products and great customer support. I suspect that a couple of them pointed out that while swell new products might bring new customers, keeping existing customers (in this case, some 2 million FCP users) would be critical to long-term stability.
I saw the same kind of idiocy at Intel back in the Glory Days (late 70s - early 80s) when some divisions were virtually unopposed in the marketplace and the trend of the day was to hire MBAs, frequently with no technical expertise.  I expect that a whole lot of business school profs are taking notes on this one...
