Applecare and replacement batteries

I have Applecare for my 12inch PB and my battery appears to be dying. PB is 2 years old and i have had about 400 recycles, however the problem just surfaced in the last few days. Was holding a charge with no problem. Suddenly it started holding a 20 min charge. With a year of Applecare left, will Apple replace my battery with no problem or will they say sorry, battery has lasted long enough, you're on your own?
thx

sorry to hear that from you, but i'm afraid you'll have to purchase a new battery. I just bought a new battery afew days ago to replace the initial one that only holds 30 mins of charge after 2 years. I think applecare won't cover for battery wear. Now with the new battery, my powerbook lasts for 5 hours again. Just as good as new.

  • Applecare and replacement in first year?

I just bought Applecare for the first time since the Macbook Retina is not user servicable.  My question is, since Macbooks come with a 1 year warranty, what happens if something like the graphics card goes within the first year and my Macbook is replaced by Apple, did I then buy Applecare for nothing or would it transfer over to the replacement machine?

Actually, unless things have changed in the last few years, Apple offers the option to the customer - they may either do what you say - transfer over the balance to the new machine - or apply for a pro-rated refund of the remaining Applecare. You may then purchase AppleCare for the new machine any time within the first year you own it.
    Best of luck.

  • Why do I pay for AppleCare and then phone malfunctions and I get charged again to replace phone

Why do I pay for AppleCare and phone malfunctions in approx 60 days and I get charged replacement fee. Isn't this just a bait and switch scam to cheat customers?

Here are the US Applecare terms:

If the damage was determined to be accidental damage from handling, it explains the fees.

Until you you advise us which model iMac you have, which OS you are using suggest that you read the threads over in the "More Like This" column over here.----------->
Other than inserting batteries, please provide details on what you have done to date in the way of troubleshooting.  In doing so, the helpers here will avoid the "been there done that" response scenarios.

Is it possible that you have a bad bunch of batteries?
My Magic Mouse on one computer and the Mighty Mouse on another use batteries I bought through the Apple store (with a charger). They last a long time.

Another possiblity is that the mouse is defective. Since the keyboard connects, it has to be the mouse or the batteries.

  • Will AppleCare cover dead batteries after 2+ years

I'm just curious. I had a ThinkPad way back, and even w/ a three warranty, the battery was only covered for a year.
I just got off the phone w/ tech support regarding AppleCare and was a little hesitant w/ battery coverage, but ended up saying that the battery is covered.
So let's say two years down the road, the battery only has about 50% juice, and I end up w/ sub 1hr, can I get it replaced under warranty?

AppleCare will not extend the warranty on the battery, but I can't find what the normal warranty is. Here's what the AppleCare Terms and Conditions says under non-covered items:
"(ix) Consummable parts, such as batteries, except in respect of battery coverage under APP for iPod or unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials and workmanship;"
The entire Terms and Conditions ducument can be obtained here:

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.

  • Check battery error with new and old batteries.

I came back from vacation last month, and the battery on my late 2006 Macbook would not charge. The Apple store said the magsafe connector was bad, and replaced it for $98. The next day I had the same problem, and when I took it back they said that now it was the logic board. None of the "geniuses" had any idea what was the failure was just swap parts until it works. I now have the "Check Battery" condition, and no idea what that means. I am sure that if I take it back to the Apple store they will say buy a new $100 battery, after all this one has three cycles on it! Dose anyone know what Check Battery means, and what conditions set this message, and how to clear it?

Thanks Carolyn. It appears that battery condition is set during a recalabrate only. It would be nice if Apple would produce a “white paper” on battery management for Li-ion batteries. There are no significant “trade secretes” in the management software that have not been reverse engineered long ago. Information as to what Recalibrating really does when it “Recalibrates”. What it means when Apple says the design life is 300 charge cycles. Information about how battery life is a statistical function, and may fail at 150 cycles, or may go 1000. What information the battery sends to the computer, and what the computer sends back. This would help eliminate the many posts on these forums, and people getting frustrated with the lack of information from Apple.

  • Lost mouse connection. Replaced batteries but still no recognition. Advice?

I had a message saying 'Lost connection' with mouse icon.
I replaced batteries but still no recognition.
    Advice?

First make sure the batteries aren't dead and that the keyboard hasn't already been paired with another device that's in range. If it hasn't, the keyboard should pair automatically when you reboot. You may have to press and hold the power button on the right side of an Apple keyboard until the LED starts flashing.
    Otherwise see these support articles:
Mac mini (Mid 2011 and later) and iMac (Late 2012): Bluetooth keyboard may not pair during Setup Assistant
Apple Wireless Keyboard: Difficulty during pairing process
If you have a third-party Bluetooth keyboard, you may need a wired keyboard to complete the pairing process. It's a good idea to keep a cheap wired keyboard and mouse or trackball as backups for a desktop Mac anyway, because Bluetooth isn't completely reliable.

  • Apple Trackpad Replacement Batteries?

Now that I've been using Apple's Trackpad/Magic Mouse rechargeable batteries for a while, I'm finding them no more robust than third party battery chargers/batteries I've tried in the past.  Be that as it may, the tiny charger is convenient and I'd like to continue using it.  However, my batteries are beginning to wear out.  Tonight's "fully charged" batteries reported only a 68% charge level by my iMac after I inserted them into my Trackpad.
I haven't heard anything about Apple selling replacement batteries.  So, does anyone know of third party rechargeable Li-Ion batteries that will work with Apple's chargers?

    Dave,
Most high quality brands should work. Be aware that rechargables will never report 100% though due to the difference in 1.2v for rechargables and 1.5v for standard batteries.

Yes, this is the one that just came in the mail today. I ordered it from FastMac.
I just put in the other battery (which I've had for a while, don't remember where it's from and it has never worked either). There are no lights on the battery and the charger light is green.

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.
