AppleCare - "NEWEST VERSION" vs. "OLD VERSION"?
My initial year of AppleCare is about to run out in about 2 weeks.
In looking into extending my AppleCare I'm finding that there are part numbers (e.g. on Amazon) for "OLD VERSION" (MC244LL/B) and "NEWEST VERSION" (MD008LL/A).
Other models (like the iMac) have similar OLD/NEW versions of AppleCare as well.
Many places still sell the "OLD VERSION" - heck, I can't even find the "NEWEST VERSION" product number on Fry's site.
I can't find any place on the 'Net that talks about the difference (if there's even any difference?).
This post on the Mac Rumors site illustrates the dilemma.
I called Apple and spoke to AppleCare and the guy I talked to couldn't even find the "OLD VERSION" part number in their system.
Other than finding out (on Amazon) that they originally carried the "OLD VERSION" starting on Oct. 29th 2009, I can't find any info whatsoever.
Obviously my default option is to suck it up and pay more for the "NEWEST VERSION" but in hopes of saving $25 I'm putting it out there ...
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Thanks Grant. I wasn't aware that TechTool Pro was bundled with the AppleCare box.
I don't think I have any need for it (having Disk Warrior et al.) so I was looking to save the $25 or so from getting the "OLD VERSION", but didn't want to be left holding a white elephant if for some weird reason Apple rejected the serial number provided with said "OLD VERSION" at time of registration.

ThanksApple comes out with a new part number every time a product line is renewed; resellers may still have stock of the previous version and will discount it. As long as the Applecare is for the product you are buying (iMac), it should be fine; I've purchased previous iterations because it cost less.

First, connect your old iphone to itunes > Create a back up. Then Connect your new iPhone to itunes then select Restore from back up. It will give you the back up then you click on restore from back up. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

A site downloads an old version of SW Player even though I have the newest version installed
Over the years I've played games at a site (Garfield Games). The last few years, whenever I update to the new version of Shockwave Player, Garfield Games downloads an old version of SW Player (10.4 to be exact) citing compatibility issues when I try to play a game. It doesn't matter if I use Chrome or IE9 to download the new version of SW player, or go to Garfield in either browser, as soon as I try to play a game I have to download the old version of SW Player. I notice my newest version is located in User-AppData-LocalLow-Adobe. The old version is located in C-Windows-System32-Macromed-Shockwave 10. If I delete the SW 10 file and try to play a game at Garfield I have to download the old version again, or I can't play the games. This only occurs if I download a new version of SW Player (as it deletes the older versions on my system)or if I manually delete the old version.
My system isn't that unusual, Vista 32 sp2, Webroot anti virus, windows firewall, Secunia.
When the old version is downloaded, Secunia flags it as a security risk. I delete the SW Int.exe file in SW 10 and Secunia no longer flags it as a security risk. I also delete 7 other files in it, and it still works at Garfield. I've contacted Garfield and they claim it's my system. Garfield is the only site that I have encountered this problem.
I've tried googling this question, and there's nothing really comprable. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If I really wanted to prevent that, I would try to set the permissions in the target folders
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Director
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10
to prevent anything from installing. -
I was able to transfer my music from my old PC to my new one and connect to the newest version of ITunes but my playlists from my old PC do not appear on my new PC when I open ITunes. Any suggestions?
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

iTunes sends me to website after asking me to download newest iTunes verision. If I download newest version from website it replaces my old version completely including my songs and playlists. How do I update my version of iTunes without replacing it?
Don't worry, new installation will still keep your playlist and library.

I have an old TC (A1302) which I've replaced with the newest version (A1470). I'd like to erase everything from the old TC and, perhaps, resell it. How do I accomplish the complete erase?
On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the old TC, then click Edit
Click the Disks tab at the top of the window
Click Erase Disk
Select the Zero Out Data option.....which will take 4-6 hours depending on the size of the drive on the old TC......if you plan to sell the TC. If you plan to keep the TC, use the Quick Erase option.....which will only take a few minutes.
Click Erase
Click the Base Station Menu at the top of the screen
Click Restore Default Settings and follow the prompts
The disk has now been securely erased and the network settings have been reset back to factory defaults. -
I have an old iphone 2g/3g. However I dont use it as a phone but as an ipod. Since its the oldest version, I tried updating it to the newest version that all the iphones seem to have. I tried to restore it but now it's stuck on the connect to itunes menu. An error appeared with the error #: 1015. What should I do. Getting a new one is not the answer Im looking for. What should I do?
The 3G stops at iOS 4.2.1 does not support abve that level .

I am unable to load the newest version of itunes because when I run the program, i am told the old version of Bonjour could not be removed. As a result the program fails to run completely. What can I do to get the older version of Bonjour removed? I tried unsuccesfully to remove the older version of itunes

When I go to download the newest version of itunes, it says the old one cannot be removed. What should I do?
I have tried multiple times to download the new iTunes, but every time the message saying the old version cannot be removed pops up. Any suggestions?(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

Opened Firefox as usual. This time a small window opened with a tab that says "connectiing" but nothing loaded.
Downloaded newest version. Updated. Same thing.
Uninstalled the old version. Installed again. Same thing.

Toshiba Satellite running VistaA possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

iTunes is not installing because its incompatible with your OS. When installing the correct version the new version will update the older version, there is no need to uninstall first.
The last version of iTunes compatible with OSX 10.4 is iTunes 9.2.1

You should still have the previous version of Numbers and may continue to use it.
The previous version is located in the folder "/Applications/iWork '09"
You can tell the difference between the two versions by noting the icon:
