Applecare Problems/Concerns

Hi there, I would like to tell you about my crappy iPhone experience so far! I am holding the third (yes, 3) phone so far and there are more phones coming. I will explain:
On June 29th, I waited in line for a few hours to purchase the phone-not bad. Since day one, I had this error where I would be using Safari and I experienced something that would resemble a "crash" where the screen would blank out for a second and I would be returned to the home screen. I let it go. The problem seemed to have been spreading to other applications including the phone app. It got to the point where in standby mode I would receive a call and I had to "hope" that the call didn't get dropped and that the phone app wouldn't crash when I "slid" the slider to answer it. VERY FRUSTRATING! On July 6th, I called apple tech support, well I guess they have a number specifically for iPhone related issues. (1-800-MY-IPHONE) Maybe they knew this was coming? The tech guy and I went through every possible reset and reboot we could do over the phone with no luck. I even did the "restore" thing from within itunes and that didn't work either. I called them back on the 8th and told them there was no improvement. Verdict: the phone had to be sent in for "repairs". I told them that I would need a service phone-It's not like I broke it! They asked for my credit card information because they told me that if you fail to return the service phone or are late doing so, they will charge your card $600, and if and when you do return it, they keep $50 bucks! I received the service phone the next day and I returned my phone original one in that same box.
My wall charger failed on me that night as well. It wasn't the usb cable because It worked on my computer, I even tried the cable from my ipod. I had to call them AGAIN and tell them about this. They sent me another one shortly and now I have to send them my old one back. BLAH!
Apparently my original phone had to be replaced. They didn't tell me what was wrong with it, it just said "product replaced" on their repair status website. I received my "new" phone today and guess what??? It's also defective!!! The best way I can describe the defect is that the phone is basically two parts. The "front" part and the "back" part. I guess they snap together somehow. This phone looks like it was opened and that they didn't snap it back together properly. There is this bulge right by the volume rocker and it *****! I called apple tech again and told them about this. To me, this phone seemed like it wasn't new. I mean, they didn't send it to me in a new sealed box or anything, they just sent me the phone. Hm... I told them how frustrating this was because I've had to sync all my stuff three times now and it seems like I'm going to have to do it a few more times. They told me that I would need to send the phone in for "repairs," so guess what? I need another service phone. I guess they can't transfer the issue to the first service phone and I need to get another one for this issue. Are you following? Good. I asked why I couldn't just switch it out at my local at&t store. They said they are not set up to do that. BLAH! They're set up enough to sell the **** thing, they should be set up to receive returns. I also asked if there are different versions of the phone going around because my 8gb service phone has a different model number than the 8gb replacement I received today. Isn't that a little weird? How do I know that they're not using initially manufactured plastic-screen phones for service phones and/or replacements??? He gave me this story that it's different coding they they use to differentiate the place it was manufactured. I told them I would be more than happy to send them all my old stuff just so they could send me a brand new, boxed, and sealed phone. Anything to show that the **** thing is new. He said it's really not up to him, it's up to the service people to determine that once they receive the new defective one. I am so frustrated at this point because by the time this is over, if all goes as planned so far, I would've had five phones in my possession. Seriously, five different phones???
What do you think about all this? Does anyone have any info that would validate or discredit anything? I was so excited June 28th that I couldn't even sleep. Now I feel like I paid $640 bucks to get pains in the neck!!!
p.s. will you compare your phone's model number to the ones I've had?
- original phone: unknown
- service phone: MB190
- replacement phone: MA712
Currenlt MA712

- replacement phone: MA712
This is correct.
A service or loaner iPhone has a different model # and also has AppleCare etched on the back.
Asking for a valid credit card for a service or loaner iPhone is normal for the reasons provided. If the service or loaner iPhone is lost or stolen or not returned for whatever reason, Apple has every right to charge for this phone since it is their property and the only way to be assured of protection for this is having a valid credit card number on file.
You should have received an email from AppleCare in regards to the rules and regulations for inspection and repair of a reported problem with an iPhone. If no problems are discovered after the inspection and testing, Apple will charge a fee for the service inspection/testing and to cover the shipping and handling, etc. This is to avoid calls requesting service for anything and everything when no service is actually required but if tech support determines that your iPhone should be sent in for inspection, testing and repair or replacement after working through troubleshooting procedures over the phone, it isn't likely that nothing will be found wrong that requires a repair or replacement.
My original iPhone was replaced due to occasional cracking experienced with the earpiece. I spent an hour on the phone with tech support trying different things to avoid having to send my iPhone in for inspection and repair or replacement. Most customers don't want to do this if it can be avoided any more than Apple does since the entire process isn't cheap for Apple.
I provided my credit card and was sent a service/loaner iPhone - my iPhone was returned in the same box. After the inspection and testing, it was determined that my iPhone would be replaced but I wasn't told about the problems discovered as to why and I really don't care about this.
My replacement iPhone was shipped in a small iPhone box - looks just like the larger retail box but just large enough for the iPhone only and the protective sleeve since nothing else needed to be exchanged. The service or loaner iPhone is shipped in a white box with no markings. My replacement certainly appeared to be brand new and I've had no problems with it - no more occasional crackling with the earpiece which was the only problem I had.
If there is a problem with your replacement iPhone, you should request another since the iPhone includes a one year warranty but the replacement won't be sent in a plastic wrapped box as is included with the retail box which by itself does not mean the replacement isn't new. This damage on the replacement unit may have been caused during shipment to Apple or while being placed in inventory but hopefully the 2nd replacement will be in good order and function properly.

  • Problems concerning Agilent 89410A programming

    Hey!
I have a problem concerning Agilent 89410A signal analyzer programming.
The timeout error (-1073807339) and bundle error (-1074003951) pop up during the "Initialize.vi" execution. The time out error exist in the VISA Read part of the VI.
"The given session or object reference is invalid" error (-1073807346) pops up during "Application.vi" and "Close.vi" executions.
Agilent´s "analyzer address" is set to 16" Should I set something else to specific value?
What to do? I need a piece advice!
    (please, step by step)

    Hi,
The -1073807346 error shows that you may be using the wrong resource descriptor.
The first thing you need to do is determine if you are able to communicate with the instrument. Connec the instrument to the GPIB board and power on. In MAX, select "Scan for Instruments". If the instrument is detected (with the ID string) it means that the GPIB communication is working.
Next, open a interactive VISA session. In MAX right-click on the instrument entry and select "Open VISA session". The interactive VISA control will open. Click on the Basic I/O and see if you can perform a Basic read nad write. The control uses the exact same functions used by the instrument driver. If it work, then you'll need to look at your VI.
    Use the instrument driver Ge
tting Started VI and see if you can run it. Make sure you are using the right resource descriptor. The resource descriptor should be GPIB::. id is the number that shows up in MAX for the different GPIB interfaces (GPIB0, GPIB1, etc).
Finally, if it doesn't work, troubleshoot the driver using LabVIEW's debugging facilities, such as highlight execution and NI Spy.

    Hi,
Did you meet any other call delay when you using Lync?
As the issue happen for Lync desktop client, it can be performance issue. Please check if there is any error message from FE Server when the issue happen.
Also please check if you have updated Lync Server to the latest version, if not, update it and then test again.

  • Problem concerning the -U flag

There is a problem concerning the -U Fortran compiler flag in SS12. I use the -U flag in all my projects because, using that flag, capitalization matters (so that, e.g., the compiler treats "foo" and "Foo" as different variables). However, in some projects, although the compiler builds the project correctly, when I try to execute the resulting executable from within SS2, I get the following error message:
    make[2]: m2c: Command not found
    make[2]: *** [project name] Error 127
    make[2]: Leaving directory `[working directory]'
    *** Error code 2
..................Note that I can execute it directly (from a terminal window) without any problem. I just cannot execute it by pressing <F6> in SS2. The strange thing is that it does not happen to all my projects, although all of them are based on similar Makefiles. Note also that when I remove the -U flag and rebuild, all projects can be executed from within SS2.

With my own Fortran Makefiles (on any platform), I use '.SUFFIXES:' rules to get rid of
any built-in .mod rules for Modula. You have to put a blank .SUFFIXES to flush the
built-in rules, then add your actual suffixes. In fact, a single blank .SUFFIXES solves the problem. Thank you very much for the hint.
However, I still cannot understand why this .SUFFIXES blank line is necessary in some projects while it is not in other (similar) projects.
By default Sun Studio IDE uses GNU make on Linux only. On Solaris
it is using "dmake". Which platform do you use, Linux or Solaris?I use Linux (Debian 4 x64 version).

  • IPod with AppleCare: problems registering APP

    Hello,
I have the following issue: I purchased an iPod video with AppleCare Protection Plan - APP (May 2007). When I am trying to register the APP through the web process (apple.com/support/register), I get stuck on the "What is your extended service agreement number?" question - It does not accept the iPod Registration No. from the Web Registration Instructions from the APP (nor any other S/N from the purchase receipt).
    My question is:
    - how do I register the APP? Is there an alternative route or am I inputting the wrong no.?
    - Is the APP automatically registered for my iPod? When I enter the iPods hardware serial number to find out what coverage is available for it, it does show only the original limited warranty plan though
I would need to find out how to register APP since I am located in Europe (iPod bought in US) and thus without it I am not eligible for a warranty repair. Contacting 1-800-MY-APPLE is not an option from here (1-800 numbers are not reachable outside of US)
    Many thanks for your help,
    Laco

Register you Applecare using the info (date of purchase and serial number) from your original iPod.
With my replacement iPod came a letter saying any future problems need to be logged to the original serial number.
As it states, if you have any problems, use the original serial number. Apple has the replacement serial #linked to the original.

  • AppleCare problem

I've had my ipod almost 6 months now & recently I've had trouble with the 3.5mm earphone socket. At first I thought it was the earphones itself but after purchasing a new set, I realised it is in fact the socket that is broken.
The problem is that that there is no audio coming into the right-hand side of the earphones & if I want to get audio into it, in have to keep my finger pressed tightly on the side of the earphone connector.
I requested to get the ipod fixed or replaced last week. It was collected & sent off. I have just received the ipod back yet the problem is still occurring. Apple claim that "issuses concering your iPod, one or more were found to be within Apple's specifications for acceptable performance.... ie. there was nothing wrong with it!
Has anyone else had this trouble with AppleCare? Anyone else had the same fault with there iPod? Do you reckon I should try & get the iPod fixed or replaced again?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm kind of stressed out by the whole thing! (Plus my finger is sore from having to press on the earphone connector!!!)
    Cheers,
    elgriff
P.S. Apple also completely formatted the ipod aswell!

  • Applecare question concerning new IMac

I have had my old IMac for about 18 months and purchased Applecare when I bought the system. I have had minor issues throughout the 18 months but nothing major, mostly stemming from overheating. Recently my hard drive crashed and upon turning it into the Apple Store, they noticed the motherboard was having issues as well, so they decided to offer me a 2013 model IMac which will be available for me this week. My question is, how would Apple Care work? Is my old Apple Care null and voided or will it carry over to the new one I am receiving? Also, even though I am getting the system for free, can I purchase Apple Care for the new IMac? Thanks!

Inside that loop you create a new LineReader object. You don't assign
its reference to anything, so there are no references to it. This means
that garbage collection may dispose of it at any time.
Note that this does not mean that garbage collection will ever run, or
that if it does run it will choose to dispose of that object. But that
is not your problem to worry about. If there is a choice between
disposing of that object and running out of memory, the garbage
collector will definitely dispose of the object.

  • AppleCare Problem - Urgent

I took my PowerBook G4 into the Apple Store the other day because it was experiencing obvious hard drive failure. I have ProCare, so a few days later (today) they called me and told me that the hard drive was replaced, but that the logic board had 'failed'. They told me that due to some physical damage on the case of the PB the warranty wouldn't cover it, and the cost was about £485 for parts and labour!
The damage came about four months ago when the computer fell of off my chair onto the floor. I took it in immediately and Apple said there were no problems and not to worry about it. Then the damage didn't factor into the hard drive replacement, but now it is affecting the warranty on the replacement of another part during the same time frame. This seems inconsistent to me. Also, it seems dubious that they could conclusively establish that the damage caused the logic board to fail. Why did it work perfectly for the last four months if that was the case? It seems to me that admitting the warranty covered the hard drive is a tacit admission that physical damage in this case did not play a role, and it is therefore wrong to deny my warranty on the repair of parts related to the same problem.
I am going to go to the store and raise these points, but first I wanted to see what others thought. Any expert advice on appealing a denial of AppleCare coverage or the feasability of establishing causation between the fall of the laptop and the logic board failure would be helpful.

If you are based in the UK then the recent amendments to the Sales of Goods Act state that the onus is on the retailer to prove that it is notthe product at fault, rather than you having to prove that it is not your fault. This covers the first 4 years of any good that is expected to last a 'reasonable' length of time.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems concerning sonata playlists and freevo cover art

    Hi!
I'm setting up a media center PC and I'm having some problems with the playlists created by sonata. Another problem I have is not getting freevo to download cover art.
First: When ever I try to make a playlist through the "Current" tab in Sonata it creates a m3u file with every song that's listed in the current window. I'm used to being able to pick one or a couple of songs and then adding it a specified playlist. Is this impossible in sonata? And if I try to play the m3u file created (the one with every song listed) through freevo I get a message that the directory is empty. What am I doing wrong??
Second: I'm having big problems getting freevo to download cover art to my music. I can download info on movies from imdb, but info for the music doesn't work. I store the cover art downloaded by sonata in the different album folders and these covers show up in freevo. But if I have to play every new song i download first in sonata to get the cover art working in freevo I'll go crazy. It's supposed to work the same way in freevo as in sonata isn't it???
It also seems that mplayer can't play m3u files. Using the mentioned sonata made m3u file in mplayer does nothing. Mplayer starts but nothing happens.
My goal is to be able to make playlists through sonata and then play these lists using freevo. I don't want to get up from the couch.

    # TV Channels. This list contains a mapping from the displayed channel name
    # to the actual channel name as used by the TV watching application.
    # The display name must match the names from the XMLTV guide,
    # and the TV channel name must be what the tuner expects (usually a number).
    # The TV menu is supposed to be supported by the XMLTV application for
    # up to date listings, but can be used without it to just display
    # the available channels.

It's clearly not impossible, just different than you expect. Create your playlist as you want it to appear in the Current tab (meaning don't dump every single song from your library in there, just the ones you want) and then save the playlist.
Perre wrote:And if I try to play the m3u file created (the one with every song listed) through freevo I get a message that the directory is empty. What am I doing wrong??
Look at save_absolute_paths_in_playlists in your mpd.conf.

  • Problems concerning "How to integrate MS Exchange Server into SAP EP"

    Hi,
I want to realize the scenario in "How to integrate Microsoft Exchange Server into SAP Enterprise Portal" from the Microsoft-Website.
We´re using SAP NetWeaver 04, SAP NetWeaver Portal 6.0.14.0.0 and KMC 6.0.14.2.0 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 SP3.
I have created (as described in the document) the HTTP-System and a WebDAV RM. But the repository doesn´t appeaer in the KM-Content-iView.
I checked the Component Monitor and got this error-message for "servers" (it was marked with a red square)

    Hi James,
How can I check the KM ACLs/Security Zones?
I had a look on "System Administration - System Configuration - Knowledge Management - Content Management - Repository Managers - Security Manager - WebDAV ACL Security Manager".
There was just "WDAclSecurityManager" and the Permission Rendering Class was "com.sapportals.wcm.control.acl.ResourcePermissionControl".
Or where do I have to look for the ACL?

  • Transport Monitor problem concerning Treo 680 and MacBook

When uninstalling Palm software from a MacBook, some people have found it impossible to reinstall Palm software successfully again. They also have a problem synching and a message that flashes up about a "Transport Monitor." May I ask someone who has successfully resolved this problem to post detailed instructions before I am forced to check myself into a psychiatric ward? Thank you.

    Hello James.
Check out the accepted solution on this page.  I have had some success with those directions. If that doesn't work, you may want to see if the Bluetooth modem option is enabled as described in this post.
Hope one or both of those two links work for you.
