Applecare rejected to provide a battery replacement

Hi,
I finally decided to call Applecare UK after reading several posts in this forum about the expected health of a MBP battery. In my case, after 67 cycles, the full capacity was just above 3000, which is 55% of its original capacity. As a rule of thumb, it seems like less than 80% before 300 charging cycles is a sign of a faulty battery.
And so, I phoned them. After verifying the serial number, the guy told me it wasn't in his list of direct replacements, and so he called for supervision to see if he could send a replacement anyway, because these figures were indicative of a faulty battery. When the guy came back to me, he told me that because the battery was almost two years old they couldn't send a replacement. ***? Is not even 2 years, but almost, and they say they can provide a replacement!!
Anyway, if any of you have any suggestion on how could I proceed from now on, please post it. I don't know if going to an actual store would help.
Thanks!!

Call them back and reference the link below, or visit a store with a printout of the linked page.

You have the symptom "+Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300"+. Note the part at the bottom +"This program extends repair coverage on the battery for up to *two years from the date of purchase* of the computer for Intel Core Duo-based MacBook and MacBook Pro computers"+.
You should be covered by this program. Some tech are apparently unaware of this, and are only aware of the recall which affects specific serial numbers - that's a separate program.
By the way, the 80% for 300 cycles is more than just a "rule of thumb" - Apple states that at the bottom of the right column on this linked page. Feel free to point that out to the tech as well.
Hope this helps...

As a rule Apple will not replace the battery after the first year as the battery is considered a consumable item.
Also you have over the rated cycle count so the battery is Used Up, Consumed.
Now it all depends on what G bar you take it to and what G person you talk to but don't get your hopes up that you will have it changed for free. More then likely it Will Not be changed for free.

  • Can my Ipad 3 have a battery replacement outside the country?

My Ipad 3 has a battery weared. It turns off when the battery drops to 80%. I plan go to Apple Store to have a battery replacement. But i purchased my Ipad in US and now I am in France. Is it possible to have this kind of replacement?
P/S: My Ipad is out of warranty 1 month ago

The fact that you bought it in the U.S. should not make any difference at all. I'm not so sure that they can replace your battery in an Apple Store, typically you have to send the device to Apple in order to have the battery replaced. You are supposed to contact them via the link here.

Will the data on my iPad be preserved?
No, during the service process all data on your iPad will be erased. Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPad and does not offer any data transfer service.
Following service your replacement iPad may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need torestore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check iTunes to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.

  • Macbook pro 17" (mid 2010) battery replacement

    Hi guys,
Just a first time asking question on this forum looking for some answers.
I had my MBP since new (bought in 2010 - still under applecare) and had my battery replaced first time just 4 days ago.
the test of the HW in Genius bar clearly showed the battery's gone and I knew it for past 6 months or even more. It was still holding power for about an hour (sometimes showing 2-3h), but compare to new one, when I actually got the MBP it was nothing. It actually lasted for 4-5 hours easily maybe even longer and the status was actually showing it was going to last over 7 hours, sometimes even showed 10 hours, which was surprising.
Now, after the replacement, and I believe I got brand new genuine battery, it shows no more than 4 hours but lasts for maybe 2 hours.
Also the health battery indicator is jumping up and down (it was 100% which is expected, but after two charges it showed 98%, then 99% and now it's back to 100%)
So my question would be, how come the new battery is only lasting for 2h not showing anything more than 4h which happened only twice anyway. Normally it show just something over 3 hours but usually below 3 hours and lasts only around 2h.
Can anyone explain or point me to something.
Should I take it back to Genius bar and get another battery or ... ???
    Thank you

CALL AppleCare and tell them exactly what you stated in your post.

  • Bring my MBP in for battery replacement comes back with broken display

So I took my late 2011 15" MBP in for a warranty covered battery replacement and when I returned to pick it up they told me that the display does not work. Never had an issue with the display and worked fine when I brought in an opened it up for them to inspect it cosmetically. They tell me it will be 500 dollars to repair this and theres nothing I can do about it. They offered to let me pay for half of the repair. But still, does this not seem right? You dont drive your car in for an oil change and come back to find 4 flat tires you are $500 on the hook for.

May be some sort of electronic short also took out the display along with the battery, if there was obvious physical damage they would have caught it at the get go.
If you don't have AppleCare, a 3 year old machine facing high repair costs, I would suggest you don't spend another dime on it and either buy a new one or a cheaper Windows laptop if your rough on hardware.
My Early 2011 is still like brand new, because I'm very careful with it.
This will assist in getting your data off the dead machine.
My computer is not working, is my personal data lost?

  • Battery replacement in different country

    Hi All,
I found that if your phone is in a different country from where you bought it, Apple will NOT provide you with the battery replacement. So I need to travel from India to UK, just to get the replacement. This when, Apple provided me with a defective phone.
    Is there any alternative.
Any pointers will be very helpful.
    Thanks,

  • Making a case to a Genius for iPhone 4S battery replacement

Due to poor battery performance, I recently asked a Genius to declare my 4S a lemon and replace either the battery or the whole unit. I'd jumped through all of the remediation hoops, hard reset/rebuild, etc, and it looked like a legit lemon to me. The Genius assessment was that my battery performance was within the acceptable range and thus my request was politely denied. I'd like to understand what constitutes a replacement-worthy battery condition and whether there is a standard that is applied consistently across all Geniuses in all stores.
In the past, I've had my 3GS replaced by the Genius Bar for poor battery performance and the assessment seemed very subjective. This time with the 4S, the Genius used an iPad to download logs from my phone, notably the battery usage statistics for the two weeks prior. These are the Usage and Standby values that you can see in the Settings > General > Usage screen. They average two weeks worth of these values for their assessment.
In my case, the average Standby value was 18 hours. The Genius said that this was within the normal range and that 10-11 or worse would warrant concern. I don't recall if the average usage value came into the discussion.
I have two issues with the assessment:
    1) It didn't take into account "booster charges". Standby measures duration from 100% charge to the time you read the setting. In the case of the Genius assessment, it seemed to measure the duration between 100% charge and the lowest charge level before a full recharge started. Lets call this a "battery day".  The problem is that if you plug in during the middle of a battery day, you extend that day and skew the meaning of Standby duration. The iPhone notes this by showing the message "The iPhone has been plugged in since the last full charge". The problem is that the Genius doesn't take this into account. But simply, my average Standby of 18 hours was only that high because I was extending the battery day with brief booster charges.
    2) Even without regard to the above, 18 hours is vastly less than the advertised 200 hours and significantly less than my informal poll of Standby values of 4S owners.
So my question is: Is there an objective Apple standard on what average Standby and Usage need to show to warrant replacement?
    Thanks.

You may already be aware, but just in case, note the following quote from https://www.apple.com/support/products/iphone.html indicates that the battery must be at 50% or more from original specs before they will replace it under AppleCare+.
Service coverage is available only for the iPhone and its original included accessories that are defective in materials or workmanship or for battery depletion of 50 percent or more from original specification.
Another option you may consider would be to pay $89 Cdn to have the battery replaced: Apple - Support - Service Answer Center

  • Wide price variation in macbook pro battery replacement

    Hello,
My macbook pro's battery ( bought in mid 2010) performance has declined significantly and currently provides back up for just 1.5 hrs. I am planning to replace the battery and hence contacted several apple authorized service providers.
However, my dilemma is that the price quoted by various service providers varies significantly from INR 7,500 to INR 16,000 (USD 125 to USD 266).
How do I find out what is the correct price of the battery and if the battery provided is a genuine one?
Wide variation in price is creating dilemma in my mind as to whether I am getting a genuine product or a knock-off.

  • Use AppleCare extended for a new battery?

I've got an original iPad+3G from May of 2010 during the initial launch (even have the unlimited data still).  I purchased AppleCare for 2 years on it, never had a day of trouble with mine, and never used it (apart from the new iPad that arrived having a dead pixel).  So my question is, since my AppleCare is expiring in a few days, can I take mine down to the Apple store and get the battery replaced?  I'd hate to think I spent $99 to not get anything out of it.

The battery can't be replaced. And if it could, Apple wouldn't replace the battery on a perfectly functioning iPad... most people never get "anything out of" these extended warranties - except piece of mind. :-) That's how the stores and manufacturers make a profit - charging for warranties that most people will never need to use (I have paid for Applecare on all my iphones and iPads, and have only "used" it once).

  • Battery replaced at Fashion Show Mall, Las Vegas

Hi, I have a MacBook Air and active protection plan.
My mac shows "Service Battery". I've searched for the support on this site and it suggested I should bring the mac to any apple store for battery replaced service and I did.
I took my mac to an Authorised local service provider in Bangkok to replace the battery. The technician said I had to leave macbook with him for 2 weeks because there's no spared battery in stock. He needed to order it from Singapore. This is not good solution for me at all because I need to use my mac at work everyday and I don't have any spared pc.
I've read that Apple provide global warranty, that 's really excellent choice for me because I just plan to go to Las Vegas in 2 weeks and I think I'll have it replaced at The Fashion Show Mall there. I wonder how long do I have to wait for the battery replaced? Does the shop already have the battery in the stock?

Without contacting them, no one can give you a definitive answer.
This from Finder Help.  Note that Service battery is not a dire situation and you still may keep using your MBA.
