Applecare Technician Training information

Hello
My name is Alastair. I have recently applied for a job at the upcoming Apple store in Sydney, Australia. I am currently located in New Zealand, and wish to get certified before the job opens up. I have enquired with Renaissance (Apple resellers and trainers in New Zealand) who offer training courses to become certified, but I wish to work at my own pace and study each aspect of the training to help towards the role. I have looked into the Applecare Technician training on the website, but would like to know some more detailed information about it.
What does this training cover? in what depth does it train for the role, is it alike a basic service training? What type time frame would the training involve? weeks, months years? And what can you recommend for my circumstance, obviously I want to take the best and right steps to take on the role, and wouldn't mind hearing opinions from someone who has gone through a similar process.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello Alastair,

  • AppleCare Technician Training?

Is this software worth the purchase if I am wanting to expand my knowledge on everything Mac? Does it cover OS and hardware? Anyone got any feedback?

They teach you pretty much everything Mac: hardware and software. They wont make you a computer engineer or programmer or anything on the production level, but you'll understand how the OS works and how to recognize hardware problems vs software problems, etc. It's valuable stuff. I learned it by spending a few years busting apart a few Macs and just messing with the operating system to see what I could make it do. In the process I screwed up all over the place and had to fix things. That got me really familiar with the operating system, and since then I've just kept up to date. Likewise, they'll get you an in-depth understanding of the OS, but without the fun and games of screwing up a few computers in the process.

  • Army Training Information Architecture (ATIA) courseware wont run on Safari

I am trying to work through courseware through the ATIA website (Army Training Information Architecture). I can run the courseware on my work PC but it sticks when opening the actual courseware. pop-up window opens but the content never comes up.
Have tried updating flash player, updated Safari, etc. and installed Flip4mac and WMV player. Still no joy.
I get a pop-up message "Use of Netscape with this courseware may result in loss of functionality". Click ok and get the window without the courseware displayed.
I tried Firefox, but do not even get that far.
What am I missing or is there no way to run this program on a mac?

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions..
Check with the ATIA site and find out which browsers their software supports and which operating systems.

  • Apple Technicians/ well informed users? Is this a slow or nearly deadForum?

Hi, I would like to ask fellow users of this Forum/Discussion Group, about their experiences: is their a lot of communication going on, and are possibly Apple technicians or other well informed people here, or is there nothing going on? Don't mean to offend, but this Forum seems slower and doesn't seem to generate as much Information as many other Audio and Mac Forums I'm in.
The three times I posted here didn't get me anywhere.
    Regards, Frank

well, although apple calls this "discussions" it isn't a discussion forum, it's a user-to-user technical support forum, generic rambling is discouraged by<edited out by hosts>, both the official ones and their self-appointed helpers
your post about ssd drives wasn't a request for support, so most people won't respond
the fw question is a good one, but you posted on a saturday, the forum seems a lot less active at the weekend, maybe the weekday crowd are taking advantage of their employers' bandwidth and time to do some illicit surfing here to break the monotony, perhaps you'll get some responses during the week
the mbp+160gb drive question asked if anyone tried it, i suspect that at the time there probably weren't many people who'd tried it, and of those none saw your post, so again most people won't respond
there are plenty of people who can/do help, and from the rate of incoming posts i think it's far from slow/dead

  • Is there good training/information step-through on using the 3 way color correction in CS6?

I am looking to see if there is a good source of information about how to use the 3 way color correction in premier Pro CS6?  It's very complex and daunting when I first look at it, and I would like to figure out how to use it effectively for my underwater footage.
    Thanks

    FWIW:
Anyone planning on doing CC and Grading should consider learning a bit about color science as regards CC / Grading.
There are many good books from Colorists (eg Van Hurkman or Hullfish/Fowler ) and I am sure there is plenty on th e web  about this extensive and interesting topic.  A lot of CC info is very applicable and helpfult to photography as well.
These are the fundamentals and basics that apply to all CC/ Grading applications and  will make it easy to understand the "controls" as well as the techniques  required.
Without the basics...its very dififficult to progress in these apps.

  • AppleCare Technicion Training M8936Z/A

I have, I guess the older version of the box, and the Enrollment number was never used.
Is the enrollment number still good and will the person enrolling in it get the latest upgrades for the exams testing?
    Thanks

This is a question you should be asking an Apple Sales rep who handles training credits.
Most of the people on these forums are not Apple employees.

  • How do you start to study for certification apple when you purchase the applecare tech training

Not sure where to start if you do the online study courses don't you need another computer and some tools to start with for practice?

Whether you will need a computer and physical tools for practice will be up to you, but yes, those will usually be helpful.

  • Apple care technician manual whats in it?

Hi I'm wondering what's in the apple care technician training manual. I'm looking for support on the new extreme router and other various apple products
    Thanks for the help

    Does the explanation help?
    Product Information
Get training from the Apple experts, then become one yourself. This in-depth training program covers the spectrum of knowledge you need to become an Apple-certified technician. Learn the essential skills for troubleshooting Apple products.
AppleCare Technician Training provides all the information you need to prepare for the Apple Service Certification exams. This easy-to-use, self-paced program includes training materials, and extensive information from Apple's own technical library. Most important, the service training curriculum was developed by the people who know Apple products best.
For more information on AppleCare Technician Training, or any other Apple Training course and certification program, please visit http://www.apple.com/training.
Unfortunately, without buying the book, no one would know as we are all users just like you. You could stop in at an authorized repair center and ask them as they'd probably either have one or have used it for training.

  • Free Apple Certification Training

Anyone know of any good tutorial training or free online training to become a certified Apple technician?
I would like to start studying to become one, as I love all apple products and I would love to join the team of an Apple store or training center.
Or if you know of any well rated programs (such as Video Tutorials on Lynda.com) let me know about them.

Technician training couldn't hurt, but being certified will not get you the ability to do warranty repairs or get parts from Apple, if that's what you were thinking. You would have to be employed by an authorized Apple service center for that. So unless you plan to look for a job with a service center, becoming certified is perhaps not a good use of your time and money unless you just want to be able to tell people you're certified even though you can't do warranty work or get parts.
You can buy Apple's Technician Training materials even if you don't intend to pursue certification, but you can probably find most if not all of that information elsewhere at lower cost or for free.
    Regards.

  • Does product service plan cover the same as AppleCare does?

Hello, I purchased a new Macbook Pro 13' about a month back in September, while purchasing I also purchased what I was told was AppleCare. I never recieved a box for the AppleCare therefore when I was trying to register it online I was having difficulty because I didn't have a registration number. I just phoned AppleCare support line, and emailed them a picture of my receipt. It turns out the man didn't sell me AppleCare he sold me a product service plan done through the Apple Certified Reseller where I bought my Macbook; which is Future Shop. I was wondering if all the coverage I recieve through this product service plan will be the same as if I had bought the AppleCare.
    Additional INformation
-I paid 299 for the PSP

You got what you bought not what you thought. You should be discussing this with Future Shop as they're the one's issuing the coverage. You are covered by Apple for 1 year. You need to find out what happens after that year.

  • ACMT Apple certification training in UK

    Hi,
I'm based in London, UK and am seriously thinking of taking the ACMT apple certification qualification in order to become a
    Mac Technician.
As I am reluctant to pay £2500 for the 8 day course I am thinking of buying the £209 technician self learn course
and then take the 2 (Hardware & software) exams at a prometric exam centre.
I have read all the info on the apple site but it seems to relate mainly to the US and not the UK.
    My queries are as follows:
    1. Is there any one out there who has qualified in this way and is working as an apple technican - if so how did it compare to taking an 8 day course ?
    2. What other qualifications are useful (ie. essential) in order to make oneself more attractive to an employer ?
    3. Is it possible to just take the 2 prometric exams in the UK after self learning (which only cost about £100 each) and if so where ?
I can't find anywhere so far where I can just take the exams in the UK.
    4. What are my chances of getting work with just the ACMT qualification ?
(I have a great deal of experience as an end user using Logic and Final Cut Pro over the last 15 years, troubleshooting my own macs over the years and want to diversify my skills by getting freelance work)
    5. How is it possible to self learn and take the hardware exam if you don't have access to all types of macs ?
(I have G4 powerbook, mac book pro, G5, Mac Mini) On the website it says you can self learn but seriously, is it really possible on your own ?
Hope some kind souls out there can help me with these dilemmas !
    thanks very much
    Nuimuse

What does this include? The hardware and software certifications?
It doesn't include any certifications at all, per se. It includes the material to train you to take the Service (i.e. repair technician) Certification which consists of the Apple Macintosh Service Exam and the Mac OS X v10.5 Troubleshooting Exam. How effective the training in the kit you mention is I don't know since I've never seen that particular kit.
It gives you access to a bunch of resources on the web. Would this be worth the money spent on it?
That's up to you and what you hope to achieve.
would it be better to get the peachpit books and learn from there.
I could be wrong, but I don't believe that the Peachpit books cover the technician training.
And only take the support professional test. I guess what I'm asking is the technician training from apple worth it?
Again, it depends on what your personal and professional goals are. If you hope to get employed by an Apple service center as a repair tech, then taking the technician training and passing the tests would certainly be a leg up. If you are instead hoping to get into software support, server management, etc. then the other training and certifications might be of more benefit. If this is for personal use only and you're not hoping to find a job doing this, then the training material might be worthwhile but paying for the certification tests probably wouldn't be worth the money.

  • Business Object Training

    Hi Experts,
I am new to BO, my company decided to send me for training.
Can any please let me know which course i need to go. i am instersted in developer and adminstrtor training.
Please give me course name and numbers.
    Thanks
    Regards
    Rajini

Hi Rajini, you can find all the training information on http://www.sap.com/services/education/index.epx. On the right pane of that web site, you can find all the available courses under the "Course Index". The following are the classes that I have mentioned before:
BOW110 - SAP BusinessObjects: Web Intelligence Reporting
BOU210 - SAP BusinessObjects: Universe Design
BOE210 - SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise: Administering Users and Content with the CMC
Remember to pace yourself and not to take all the classes at the same time. All these classes are instructor-led. I strongly suggest instructor-led classes over online classes because you can interact with the instructor and ask questions where online classes cannot. You should be able to find the classes in your area on that web site.
    Hope this helps.
If you are using the BusinessObjects tool, you should join ASUG at www.asug.com
