Applecare - too late to buy it?

If my original warranty has run out, do I take it that I can no longer buy applecare? I feel well stupid right now, cos the warranty has run out like maybe 3 weeks ago, and now my laptop decides to stop being able to charge batteries (and no, it's not the battery or the charger, it's the laptop)

Sorry - but Applecare Protection Plan must be bought and registered before the end of the standard 12 month warranty.

  • Applecare - too late to buy (ordered Mac online on 20th Feb 2009?)

I didn't know where to post this question, so option for this forum!!
I contacted my local Apple store today to find out if it was too late to buy and register Applecare for my Mac Pro I ordered online from Apple on 20th Feb (1 year and 1 day ago).
The member of staff referred my to the Apple Store, but when I phoned I realised they don't have staff answering telephones on a Sunday (this is the UK).
So, I didn't receive my machine until 25th Feb 2009, so am I too late to buy Applecare if I wanted to?
    Thanks in advance
    Matt

you can still buy applecare. you can do it while your mac is still covered by 1 year manufacturer's warranty (1 year)

  • Too late to buy warranty?

Just bought a Dell Studio MT Desktop Q8200 November 30 (3 days ago). I did not buy an  extended warranty at the time. I wasn't aware of the arrangement Dell had w/Best Buy about warranties until today and I would like to buy a extended warranty now. Is it too late to do this?

    Hey Kbp13 -
Congratulations on your new Dell desktop.  I purchased one a few months ago in our stores and thus far I have been quite pleased.
The good news is that you do have 14 days from date of purchase to buy the Performance Service Plan.  Keep in mind, the store may ask you to bring the tower in to have it inspected to ensure that it is in like new condition.  Your best option is to contact the store prior to driving there and receive clarity from them.
    I hope this helps!

Thanks Peter.  I thought about that and had discounted the idea but since I am only 30 minutes away from my A store, I think I'll give it a try. I can be charming specially when I wear clean jeans and a nice top. :-)

  • Too late to re-activate adobe ...so it closed

    Hello
Have I done a catastrophic mistake by being too late to re-activate my Adobe creative suite?
I have had computer problems. When I in the end bought a new computer and tried to install Adobe, the re-activation time had run out.
I did have a possibility to re-activate it off course, but didnt do it immidiately, since I was about to re-install everything in the new computer, and then problems arouse that delayed everything ...and then suddenly it was to late.
I will contact support by phone tomorrow. But if someone can ease my pain, by hinting that it is possible to re-activate it, I will get some sleep tonight...
    cheers/Johan

    Phillip,
I AM a wino! I mean hey, look at that glass. It was NOT a Riedel Sommelier Burg glass. Only a true wino would use such a glass. Seems that my review of that restaurant was very critical of their stemware. Food good, wine list well-suited for the menu at a fair "resort price," but the stemware needed a real upgrade. I write that a lot though.
Personally, I would like to see the max. installs increased, as there are many good reasons for people needing to do more than the 5-10 (?) allowed. Not that long ago, a PS user was complaining in the forum, that he could not uninstall his copy of PS every night, when he left the office, so that the cleaning crew could not use it. He wanted unlimited installs. That was a really odd idea, but then I do not know his cleaning crew... Now, Activation does not rub me the wrong way, like it does many. Maybe it is because that I have never had an issue with it. Had I, my opinion might be different.
Adobe, however, knows what they are doing. They write the software, and make the rules. I just buy their software to make my living, and play by their rules. I know that that statement does not belie my "Libertarian" nature, but then I've been a loyal buyer/user for over two decades.

  • Too late to add user account?

I have been working in my administrator account since buying my iMac G5 in December. I understand the wisdom of using a user account instead. I am wondering if it is too late to add a user account. If I do that, can I import the folders and files from my administrator account to the user account?

The easy way is to create a new administrator account, them demote your old account to non-administrator.

  • I have an intel iMac OS X 10.8.3 and haven't yet backed up anything. Please advice on best ways of backing up everything before it's too late - external drive etc.

I have in Intel iMac OS X 10.8.3 and haven't yet backed up anything.  Please advise on best ways of backing up everything (external drive etc?) before it's too late.

Buy any external hard drive - USB/Firewire/Thunderbolt, etc that is compatible with your Mac. Opinions will vary, but I use Western Digital externals without problem, others will suggest LaCie, but there are no shortage of other manufacturers making equally good drives, I'm sure. It's preferable to buy a drive that is equal to the size of your internal HD, some will say twice the size. Mine are less than the size of my internal HD, but I don't have masses of data.
The simple and free option is to then connect the drive to the Mac and turn on Time Machine. Leave the drive permanently connected and it will backup your data regularly.
An alternative, and my preferred option is to use SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner to make regular bootable clones of your drive. Some (me included) keep multiple backups - clones and TMachine.
When I had my HD replace recently I re-installed from the clone and was back where I left off in around an hour.

  • Forgot to switch to Point Banking after Elite, made a purchase; too late?

I know that it's never too late to switch to Point Banking, but I was wondering if there's any way to bank points from a certificate that was earned after achieving Elite status.
What happened was that I lost Elite status at the beginning of this year, so I was back to certificates, after having been on Banking for a number of years in a row.  I achieved Elite status around October, but forgot to switch back to Banking.  Picked up a PS4 GTA bundle and some other things on Black Friday, and then I received an e-mail today informing me that I had a certificate issued and waiting.
Is there any way to convert that certificate back into points and just bank them?  I was eligible for banking before the purchase, so I'm hoping I can do that, but I understand if I can't.
    Thank you!
*disclaimer* I am not now, nor have I ever been, an employee of Best Buy, Geek Squad, nor of any of their affiliate, parent, or subsidiary companies.

    Hi cr_client,
Congrats on again reaching Elite status!
If points were converted into a certificate before you officially changed your certificate preference to BANK, then there may not be much we can do.  Once a certificate has been issued, it cannot be cancelled and the points added back into the account.  If you were to redeem the certificate and process a return or cancellation, then the certificates point value would repost to your account within 3 to 6 business days.
I would like to go over your My Best Buy account with you in a bit more detail to ensure that it is properly banking points, so I will be sending you a private message.  To check your private messages, you will want to login to the forum and click on the little yellow envelope icon at the top of the page.

  • I dropped my ipod in the toilet, I haven't fixed it for months. I didn't know you could put it in rice, or to not open it right away. Is it too late to fix it, or a place? The ipod is really important to me, it has been with me forever.

I dropped my ipod in the toilet, I haven't fixed it for months. I didn't know you could put it in rice, or to not open it right away. Is it too late to fix it, or is there a place I could bring it to? I don't want to get a new one. The ipod is really important to me, it has been with me forever, and there is important stuff on it.

There are companies that specialize in data retrieval but it's costly (probably cheaper to buy a new iPod) and more than likely as Allan said, your circuits are probably damaged beyond all hope of retrieving anything. It's worth calling Apple you maybe able to get a discount or a refurbished iPod. Can't hurt to ask, Good luck. (And in the future... no texting in the john.) Sorry, couldn't resist it.

  • Too early for the retina, too late for the non retina? Which one?

    Hi everyone,
Sorry for yet another "Which MBP should I buy" post but I have read through all the of the discussions I can find on this topic as well as around the web.
I am a digital designer who is currently using a PC only because up until now I have never been in the financial position to transition over to Mac.
I am currently trying to decide between getting a a 15" Mac Book Pro or 15" Retina Mac Book Pro.
    15-inch: 2.6GHz
    2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    750GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
    High res anti-glare screen
    versus:
    15-inch: Retina display
    2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    512GB flash storage1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
I will be using Adobe CS6 Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver sometimes all at the same time. I occasionally have a video project where I will be using Premiere and After Effects. I am also looking into upskilling myself and becoming versed in at least basic 3D modelling. I am looking at a MBP because portability is important.
Given my job, going retina seems like a no brainer but I have a few concerns:
Speed, processing power - which will suit my needs?
This is an investment for me, I want it to last at least 3-4 years:
Is getting a standard MBP now just too late and bidding in the past?
Will resale of a standard MBP suck in 3-4 years?
In 3 years time will I need an upgrade, and if so, how will I even do this with a virtually unupgradeable (from what Ive read) Retina MBP?
About 80% of the time I plan on hooking up the MBP to a Thunderbolt display - whats the point in a Retina?
If I don't get a Retina and I need to start designing Retina graphics, will I be faced with added dificulty because I use standard MBP?
Is it realistic to assume Retina graphics won't become mainstream for 3-4 years allowing me to bide my time with a standard MBP, upgrading to a Retina later?
At work I use a 2-3 year old iMac and the screen is already magical compared to my PC and it seems to do fine for me. I've been in store and played with both and I am genuinely confused. I just feel like getting a standard MBP is like jumping on a train when it's already reached it's destination.
Budget wise I can afford the base level Retina MBP I outlined above but if I can save money, that'd be ideal. Being me I will automatically chose the best possible solution but I need to be rational about my needs. Someone please help, I just want a Mac!
Thanks in advance, any help is much appreciated

    In general
Retina cannot upgrade RAM.  Storage can be upgraded, but more $ than upgrading the non-Retina unit.
Non-Retina unit can upgrade RAM  base-4 GB to 16 GB for about $85 (cf. OWC.)  HD can be replaced with SSD or larger HD.
Therefore lack of "upgradability" in Retina
    No optical drive in Retina.
The non-Retina has  Ethernet and FireWire ports, and a slot for a secure cable- the Retina  none of these ports.

  • Way too late?

I have bought a MacBook + 2GB Ipod Nano on August 28, 2006 during the educational sale period. I had no idea about how to submit the mail-in rebate form until now. But it's way too late to claim my rebate at this point right? As the 45-day grace period has past long ago..... T_T (cry)...

I'm afraid that's correct. In fact that promotion is now over. I suppose you could call AppleCare and plead your case.

  • HT2417 my iphone 4s voice messages repeatedly disappear and reappear at random. When they do reappear, I cannot listen to them. Sometimes, they eventually come through but usually too late to respond

I have an iphone 4s with Sprint. Ever since I switched from my iphone 3G with ATT, I have had incredible frustration with the voicemail system. Periodically, my voicemails on the new phone disappear; all messages old and new. This occurs out of the blue. Similarly they at times reappear, but the new messages have no content and all show up as 0.00minutes. Randomly, some messages retrieve their content and I can listen to them, often too late to respond to the caller. This is very annoying and almost questions why the voicemail exists at all. I have taken the phone to Sprint multiple times and performed countless resets with no recourse, hence they suggested contacting Apple. Has anyone else experienced this or know of a viable solution? iOS is up to date, phone only used in USA
    Thanks

  • Too Late for Mac OS Extended Journaled??

Hi guys! So i got a another firewire HD, 250GB by acomdata. It's formatted under FAT 32 for both windows and mac, after after reading several posts, it's best to format it under mac os extended. the problem is I already put about 30 GB of files on it. Is it too late for me to reformat it? do i have to remove all the files, then do it? If someone can provide step by step instructions that won't harm my files, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

You understand that if you reformat the drive for Mac OS Extended that you will no longer be able to use the drive on a PC?
If you do reformat the drive you need to do so as follows:
1a (If this is the startup drive.) Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu if using Tiger.) Be sure to use the installer disk for the version of OS X you intend to install.
1b (If this is a non-startup volume or external drive.) Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
