AppleCare Warranty Worth it?

Is the Apple Care Warranty worth it? I'm buying a new mac, and am thinking 1 year coverage may be good enough.

Apple is not different in this regard. While their machines are quite sturdy the in fact are made in the same Fabs as Dell etc...
Sorry to say that, but Asus for instance is the OEM for the macbooks.
And yes notebook computers are stressed way more heavily. And from all the apple notebooks I have seen around which is quite a lot I have not encountered a single one which did not went in for repair. It was mostly smaller issues, but I second that if you buy a notebook computer never ever buy it without warranty.
Dont get that as a sign of bad quality from Apples side, the machines are built really good, most of the notebook computers sold are way worse (unless some older Thinkpad models, and some rugged ones) but notebook computers are stressed way more heavily and apples machines are qualitywise not in the rugged section of notebook computing.

  • Void AppleCare Warranty: If I Change The Apple Logo Color?

You know the Apple logo that rests on the oppisite side of the screen and lights up when the screen does?
Well, I've some people add like a color see through screen so that lit up apple logo becomes blue or green or any other color.
I'm assuming they insert the color sheet from the inside ...but i'm wondering, would this void your AppleCare warranty?

The top case is not a user-installable part. So, yes, if you take apart the screen, any damage you do will NOT be covered by your original warranty or an AppleCare Protection Plan. If you have a hard drive failure later (for example), it will be up to the technician who repairs your hard drive to determine if opening the top case affected your hard drive. If they determine that your unauthorized hardware change did have something to do with the hard drive failure, then you'll be responsible for paying for a repair.

my macbook pro running lion will not boot . it stays on the grey page with the cog spinning. I have tried all methods of booting to no avail. I have removed the bottom and taken out the battery and the ram . will this affect my applecare warranty. I had to try myself as I'm overseas for two months and nowhere near any sort of help .

there was a recent software update that seemed to screw HDV up.  Do some searching here over the last month or 2 and you'll find a bunch of posts and some possible solutions.
Worst case scenario, do as Shane suggests.  But might I suggest you take a look at the user tips section of the forum.  there are some great tips on how to prevent these sorts of problems by cloning your startup drive, etc.

  • How does the fault system work with AppleCare warranty extension?

I'm an owner of an iPhone 4S on Telus Mobility in Canada and I have two year AppleCare warranty extension that is linked to my phone. I've had my iPhone for over a year now with no issues, so this question is meant for reference if and when I do need to make a claim.
When I bought my AppleCare, the representative never explained to me how the fault system works, or if and what I pay in the event of a claim, or really anything else related to AppleCare. My friend told me if I pay a certain amount of money during a claim, I can get a new iPhone. Is this true? Are there limitations of the AppleCare?
Could somebody please explain to me in a fairly decent amount of detail how AppleCare works, how the fault system works, and anything else I would need to know about AppleCare? Thanks.

    Here's the link explaining it:
    http://www.apple.com/support/products/iphone.html
This would work in the U.S. - I think (but am not sure) it will work in Canada as well.

  • Can't get Mighty Mouse replaced with AppleCAre warranty

I need to get my mighty mouse replaced and I am still in Applecare warranty and I've done this process before. I enter my serial number and go through the online service process and when I finish and hit "submit" it says error and I should try again at a different time. I tried last night, I tried today, I tried it in Safari, I tried it in Firefox, still doesn't work...

Why don't you just call them?

  • Does anyone know the difference between the Applecare Warranty for the Macbook Pro and the Applecare Protection Plan Auto Enroll 607-8192-B APP FOR MacBook

Does anyone know the difference between the Applecare Warranty for the Macbook Pro and the Applecare Protection Plan Auto Enroll 607-8192-B APP FOR MacBook

AFAIK, the difference is that the auto-enroll occurs automatically when you purchase the device and you will have to disburse the cost right there and then. Whereas the other comes in a box, can be purchased separately later and you must manually enroll your device into the system to activate the additional protection. This must occur before the base one year warranty is over.
So, if you don't want to pay up at the moment you buy the computer, you can wait up to say 11 months and buy the AppleCare warranty extension later. Just be sure to complete the enrollment BEFORE the base warranty is over, else Apple will not honor the extension (all in the fine print). This applies to all devices that offer an AppleCare option: notebooks, desktops, iStuff, etc.

  • Purchasing applecare warranty after purchasing macbook pro

soon I will be ordering a macbook pro via apple's educational discount online store
is it true that you can wait up to one year after purchasing a new mac to decide if you would like to add the applecare warranty?
if I decide to do this, would I still be able to purchase the applecare at the discounted educational price even though I am not buying it at the exact same time of purchase as the macbook pro?
are you not allowed to buy it if something goes wrong w/ the machine before you've even purchased applecare in the first year?
and if I can indeed to this, buy applecare up to a year later at educational pricing, how would I go about it?
thank you to anyone who can answer these questions

Also, if you wait until close to the one year period is up, be sure to register the applecare online before the year is up. i had problems once, i waited a little too long, and was able to get things taken care of through having my college bookstore write a special letter for me related to my purchase date so that i was able to add it on...
mostly i would recommend don't wait until exactly one year, but aim for a few weeks before the year is over. . .

  • Is iPod AppleCare Warranty Transferable?

In July of 2004 I purchased a 4G iPod with AppleCare. Last year it broke and Apple replaced it. It has stopped working again (seems to be a battery issue) and the online repair form tells me it is no longer under warranty.
I was under the assumption that my AppleCare warranty was still valid, or does Apple not carry it over to the replaced item?

Ah, I see. Seems I misunderstood your original question.
The AppleCare should transfer to the new iPod. Did you register your AppleCare? If not, that's what is causing problems. If you did, best thing to do is give AppleCare a call and find out what's going on--and request service for your iPod. You could also stop at an Apple Store and talk to the Geniuses. I'm sure they'd be able to help.

  • Is my iPhone 5 charger cable covered under the AppleCare warranty?

Is my iPhone 5 charger cable covered under the AppleCare warranty? I need to know because mine no longer works and I don't want to have to pay if I don't need to for a new cable. I have heard that you can but better safe than sorry right.
Also I know that there are two size cables the regular (0.5 m) and a longer one (1 m). Does anyone know if instead of getting my broken cable of regular size if i could get the longer one. Just wondering.
    Thanks for any help

everything in the box is under same warrenty
not just apple products it's the general warrenty law

  • Can I activate an old AppleCare warranty after the 1 year warranty has expired?

    I bought the iPhone 4 on 24th June 2010.
I did not purchase AppleCare (never received reminder email).
My iPhone 4 original 1 year warranty expired on 24th June 2011.
Someone has offered me an iPhone 4 AppleCare box purchased around Easter 2011, they didn't open/activate it.
Can I now register and activate the AppleCare purcahsed Easter 2011 with my iPhone 4, or did I have to activate the AppleCare before 24th June 2011?
    Thanks

Can I now register and activate the AppleCare purcahsed Easter 2011 with my iPhone 4,"
    No, you cannot.
did I have to activate the AppleCare before 24th June 2011?"
Yes, you would have had to activate within the warranty period.

  • Can the old AppleCare warranty be applied to the iPhone 4S

    No

  • Apple care/ American Express Warranty - Worth it?

My year is almost up as far as the warranty goes, and I purchased this on my american express card which doubles the warranty.
I've only had to call apple once and this was a battery issue, they sent the battery overnight(excellent service)
My question is if something like this occurs again, something small but important(cdrom, battery) - will I have to contact apple or american express?
I am debating on should I get apple care, if it is a huge issue I am sure I could just send it back to amex, but if its something small, does anyone know how this works?

If you don't have Apple Care and your one year is up, you'd contact American Express. They may have you get a repair estimate, and then they'd decide whether to pay for the repair, replace the item, or reimburse you for the original cost. (You would need to have all of your original receipts and not be behind in paying your bill at the time you filed the claim.) More info can be found here:
    https://www124.americanexpress.com/cards/cda/dynamic.jsp?name=BuyersAssuranceCCSGFAQ&type=intFAQ
Now, what happens if you buy Apple Care? (I purchased my MacBook with AmEx and bought Apple Care at the time, so I wondered that myself.)
This is what the Buyer's Assurance Plan says (on page 2):
"If you purchase an additional service contract or extended warranty with a product which is otherwise eligible under the Buyer's Assurance Plan, and the combined coverage provided by both the original manufacturer’s warranty and the purchased service contract does not exceed five years, then the product is eligible for coverage under the Buyer's Assurance Plan. The Buyer's Assurance Plan will extend the warranty time period and mirror coverage of the original manufacturers' warranty up to one additional year after both the original manufacturer’s warranty and the purchased service contract have expired. ... "
Since the Apple warranty is one year and Apple Care adds three years, the Buyer's Assurance would be tacked on when the Apple Care ended. However, it's not really clear from the way that is worded whether or not you'd have to buy the extended warranty at the time you bought the product. That would be a good question to ask American Express.
The Buyer's Assurance Plan also says (page 2):
"If you buy an additional service contract or an extended warranty for a computer, computer component or part that already comes with an original U.S. Manufacturer’s warranty, unless such coverage is provided from and
administered by the original manufacturer, coverage under the Buyer’s Assurance Plan does not apply."
Since Apple Care is provided by Apple, it would seem that this exception would not apply. That would be another question that might be worth asking American Express.
The American Express Buyer's Assurance plan can be found at https://www124.americanexpress.com/cards/benefits/includes/pdf/buyersAssurance20 03.pdf

  • AppleCare Warranty for Airport Extreme (4th Generation - MC340LL/A)

I have a 4th Generation (MC340LL/A) Airport Extreme that comes on, but doesn't seem to want to connect to the internet.  I know that AppleCare covers items such as this if it was purchased up to 2 years before the purchase of a device such as MacBook Pro or Mac Pro.  I brought my MacBook Pro in March of 2011 (Mid 2010) and the warranty exprires in March of 2012 for the MacBook Pro.
Has anyone been successful getting their Airport Extreme replaced at the store, or did they require you to send it in?    Am I wrong in thinking that the Airport Extreme would be covered under these circumstances?  The Airport Extreme 4th Generation was released in October 2009, so that is definitely in the time frame of two years before the purchase of my MacBook Pro.
    Thanks!

For now, the nearest available information may not be fully suggestive of
the possible largest or unofficially supported external HDD it may use...
Since a similar-spec Time Capsule has the option for either a 2TB or 3TB
internal HDD as part of that configuration, the safe bet suggests 3TB.
There may be an issue with larger drives and multiple computers using
one large drive, since I'd seen some mention of a few user problems when
two or more Macs were sharing Time Machine storage on one larger HDD.
And someone may know of the information about a software utility that may
be able to help keep track of the files or organize them, in such a situation.
In passing, some weeks ago, I'd read about such a utility to help alleviate an
issue that may result from two or more Macs with Time Machine files on the
same backup hard disk drive. But did not keep the link nor retain those details.
If you did get a larger external hard disk drive of sufficient spin rate RPM
and cache size, then it may be a simple matter to format it with partitions
so extra space may be in reserve or any capacity unable to work with
the total configuration could be used for general storage, apart from TM.
Hopefully there is a good drive available for that application.
I'd inquire of OWC as they have some examples of hardware.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Why did I get charged for a iPhone 4s with AppleCare Warranty?

It was for the back plate that was falling off. No damage, but the Apple "Genius" said that the warranty doesn't cover the backplate!?!? Anyone else have this issue?

And this is AppleCare PLUS warranty -- which should be even better I would think....
