How can I see my desktop on Apple TV

Welcome to the Apple Community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). You can see which Mac you have and which operating system you are using by selecting 'About this Mac' from the Apple menu in the top left corner of your Mac and selecting the 'More Info' button.

  • Problems rebooting: "couldn't lock for reboot: Resource busy"

    Hi there,
I'm having trouble rebooting my Xserve G4. The server has been up for 128 days, and a previous admin had installed some software updates, and I recently applied several new ones including 'Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 5', QuickTime 7.6.6 and Safari 4.0.5.
It appears it's been trying to reboot ever since the first set of updates, but is not able to. What is strange is that even after having applied the updates mentioned, Server Admin still lists these same software updates as new, uninstalled updates, and asks me to install them.
Also, the CPU usage is running at around 60%, and diskarbitrationd and kextcache seem to be the main CPU hogs.
I have tried asking the machine to reboot through Server Monitor, and it fails, stating:
14/05/2010 10:32:42: Starting remote hardware monitoring for ‘laramie.gcal.ac.uk’
    14/05/2010 10:32:43: Server contacted successfully

14/05/2010 10:49:24: Configuration received by server and now active
But the server never actually reboots.
I've also tried 'sudo reboot' at the shell, and this generates:
    laramie:~ swadmin$ sudo reboot

I got sick of the error so hard-rebooted the server manually. Seems to be fine now, and software updates work as normal.

  • New iMac can't see Laserwriter Select connected to a PC on same LAN-- why?

I've just returned to the Mac universe after a five year hiatus. When I discovered how well Macs play with PCs and Unix these days, I decided to come back.
There's just one issue: I can't print to my Laserwriter Select 360, connected by parallel port to a Windows XP Pro PC on my LAN. My new iMac doesn't see the printer at all. The imac does see the PC's workgroup in the Network Neighborhood, and I can mount the shared volumes of that PC on the mac with no problem, so the Mac can talk to the PC for filesharing, anyway. (smb:// address used)
Applecare has no clue why I can't see the printer. They told me to turn on Windows Sharing and Print Sharing, but that had no effect. The Windows machines on my LAN can all see and print to the shared Laserwriter Select 360, no problem. They're all running Windows XP pro, latest patches.
The iMac of course has the latest Tiger. All machines are on my internal subnet 192.168.0.*.
I just got a new cartridge for the Laserwriter, and there's no reason to retire it-- that printer works great. I just can't believe/accept that the iMac can't be made to print to an Apple printer! (Also, I've heard that appletalk->ethernet bridge solutions are flaky so that's not an ideal route).
    Any/all ideas welcome.
    imac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Here's the result. The PC is on 192.168.0.2, and the iMac was assigned .18 by DHCP.
I just tried adding a lexmark printer to the PC (over USB) to see if there might be some difference. The other windows box on the lan sees the LexMark same as it sees the Laserwriter (and both show up in the output of smbclient below). Needless to say, the iMac doesn't see the LexMark either.
Thanks for your help with this one...

  • Core Duo Mini compatability with certain drivers

My Mini with the core duo can't recognize the Epson print driver that is supposed to be tailored for it. I downloaded it from Epson's site but just can't get the print utility to recognize it. I also found that when launching the downloaded Digidesign Core Audio driver tailored for the Intel Macs that the system crashes... everytime.
Anybody have any thoughts? Would sure appreciate them.

  • Mail not coming in from Gmail

I know there are a zillion discussions dealing with Mavericks email and Gmail (which was all working fine before the upgrade!), but I would like to talk about one very specific show-stopper I am experiencing. That is - new email is often simply not appearing!
I can see the new email at Gmail via the web. I can see it in iOS 7 Mail on my iPhone 5 and iPad 2. I can see it if I use the Airmail application on my Mac. I can see it in the Gmail app on my Nexus 7.
But in Mavericks Mail the new mail is simply not appearing in my Inbox.
Right now I see new mail directly via the web in 3 accounts, but they aren't appearing in  Mavericks Mail.
Because of this I keep returning to Airmail (after all, a guy's gotta check his email), but that application also has its own eccentricities and bugs and until those are worked out I think I would prefer to work in plain old, sedate Mail.
But if new mail doesn't come in what can I do?
I don't have anything customized (like those old Tidbit articles saying to turn this or that Gmail folder on or off). Just standard settings.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Doug

Sue, I'm glad you tried this. I had been considering trying what you did, but after reading your note I finally decided to give up the ghost on Apple Mail. It just got severely broken with Gmail accounts in Mavericks. Mail was never what I would call "robust" to begin with. I hate those very long "database upgrades" when you upgrade your OS. And I've had it completely fail when attempting to restore once from Time Machine, and had to get my data retrieved from my CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) backup instead. So I feel pretty skeptical about Mail.app now.
I'm sure Applel is aware of it, which is why they released a "fixed" update of Mail. Unfortunately it didn't fix it.
In my case, I've switched to the Airmail mail client, available from the App Store for just $1.99. It has its own quirks, but it also has some really nice features that Mail doesn't have, and the developers seem to be more actively interested in upgrading it all the time.
I also tried Thunderbird, which is much improved over the last time I tried it years ago, and is worth looking at, and free. But I found it rather slow compared to Airmail.
My recommendation would be to try Airmail for now. You can also download their "beta" instead of the version from the App store. That is free, and keeps you on the leading edge of bug fixes.
Since it is IMAP, if you don't like it, you can always go back to Mail or another client if you find something better. But at least Airmail works with Gmail and your mail reliably comes in!

  • Opening MS Word documents in Pages 5.0

I just tired to open a MS Word Doc in Pages 5.0 and it says it can't open it this is going to set me back.  I can still launch Pages 4.3 and open it then save it then open it in Pages 5.0 but I have a lot of documents in MS Word. Anyone have any suggestions.  I wish Applel would have warned us.  This was a great feature in Pages 4.3 why would they take it away.

It works for me if I add the .doc or .docx extension to the filename in Finder before opening it in Pages 5.0 (most of my Word docs in Finder don't have the extension there by default for some reason).  In other words, Pages 5.0 will open Word files if they have the extension in the filename (while 4.3 can open them without that).

  • Mail not filling in some To: addresses from Addressbook

I just started using Mail on my 10.8 system and I notice that in the To: field, some addresses are filled in automatially when I type in the name, but some are not, even if they are present in my Addressbook (which is synchronized with an Exchange server, in case that matters). What am I missing - why isn't it picking up some entries from Addressbook?

  • Brand new 2013 rMBP 13" won't connect to Airplay

I just got a MacBook Pro Retina and I tried to use airplay with my apple TV but it does not recognize.
My router is the Airport Express (the white one that looks like a smaller apple TV), and I have a 3rd gen Apple TV.
As far as I can tell, everything is fully updated. I'm on the newest version of Mavericks, the apple TV is fully updated, and my Airport says it's on 7.6.4. I also already tried doing a rest on all devices and that didn't help either.
I have no problem using Airplay on my 2007 iMac (just iTunes will allow airplay because it's old) and all my iphones, 2 iPhone 5s and 1 iPhone 4s.
One other thing that is interesting is that I went to the airport utility on my MacBook Pro and it says I'm connected to the Internet but that no Airport Base Stations were found. Where as the the iMac shows it just fine.
This is a work laptop so IT was the one to set it up, but I have full admin rights to the computer and as far as I can tell, they don't have anything set so its blocking the network. But I also remember seeing the airplay on the top bar when I was on my works network... So I'm not sure why it's not working here at my home.
Any suggestions or methods of trouble shooting would be much appreciated. I've already done an extensive search and only seem to find the general applel support saying to check that everything is up to date.
    Thank you
    Jason

    Hello shaw44:
Have you tried disabling and reenabling the adapter?  Have you run the HP Support Assist which will perform some tests and it also may reset the adapter for you?
Another option is to uninstall the driver from the control panel on the desktop using Device Manager.   Windows should uninstall the driver from there.   Then, you can click "scan for hardware changes" and it should reinstall the driver.
As a last resort, If you were to get a mini USB to USB adapter or a male to female adapter (to use with the charger cord), you could download the file on anther device, transfer it to a USB flash drive and then copy it onto your Stream 7 tablet.
    Hope this helps.

  • No print service found

After turning <applet> tag into <object> tag, no print service found. How to figure out the problem? Thanks

Sorry for the other post (really bad mood).
Try to sign the applet or change the java.policy (set allpermission for all code and test it).
In IE you can change msjvm security settings and this will change the way an applet behaves.
SUN jre has a different setup, you either sign the applel or contact the sys admin
of your consumer and ask them to change java.policy for your applet.

  • ICloud won't work on mac after apple ID changed

I just updated my apple ID today.  The same ID seemed to work on the mac Apps and iTunes store and my ipad iTunes and apps after I restarted them (restarting and updating the new ID to be the same). But this evening my mac iCloud said it can't/ isn't working.  My iCloud apple ID is the OLD applel ID.  It is greyed out and I can't update it.  Please tell me what settings to change or what I have to do to get my iCloud up and running again.
I don't want to delete everything from iCloud with sign out unless that is the only way.
I guess I don't understand what happens to my data if I sign out of the cloud.  Is it lost to my old apple ID or is it just floating there until I pick it up again with my new apple ID?
    Please help me fix this
    Thanks

    Good day haynechi,
If your external hard drive will not mount on your MacBook Air but it will show up in Disk Utility, you may need to erase the hard drive in order to get it to show up on the Mac again. NOTE - this process will destroy any data on the drive, so be sure you have anything on there backed up somewhere else before you begin!

  • Keynote slideshow -? show music track

    Hello all,
I am a new user of Keynote, and found the program satisfactory until I was trying to burn my slideshow to DVD. As so many of you have experienced, my slideshow was without audio. I spoke to a young man at Apple, and he gave me a (tedious and time consuming) workaround - but it worked - and I was able to produce audio in Quicktime, but the music was slightly off. I am new to iMac and Apple software, and am used to working with a wonderful program "Photodex ProShow Gold/Producer." In their program, under the slides I am using, I am able to see my sound track, and adjust my slides/music to match the tempo/beat, as I choose. Is this possible is Keynote? Using, say, Imovie? Any suggestions? Keynote is a polished, and elegant program - I am just frustrated with the limitations I am experiencing. Applel should take a look at the Photodex site - and take notes.
    Thanks so much,
    Carrie

You can do the smallest size slideshow possible in Keynote, and then export low-med quality in quicktime. That really isn't too good of a solution though, since there is a loss of quality.
