AppleMobileDevice?

Hi all, I've got some problem in using iTunes 7.7, hope you guys could help me..
I've update iTunes to 7.7 today, and the iTunes makes my computer(Window XP) very slow!
Later on I found that iTunes opens a lot of "AppleMobileDevice"(maybe 30) in processing program...
What's wrong with my iTunes? Can I just turn off "AppleMobileDevice"?
ps I've plug my iPhone in once, and eject it after a minute, 'cause my PC turns very slow..I"ve restart my PC for a couple of times already, but the problem still exist! Please help me!

OK when i saw this i created an account so i could tell you how to fix this because it drove me crzy for a month!!!
1. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin
2. Backup the file AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe (in case something goes wrong)
3. Close All The Running Processes of AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe
4. Delete the file AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe
everything should work now.
Note: Do not confuse AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe with AppleMobileDeviceService.exe
Good Luck

When I try to install upgrades for itunes on my Mac, I get the following message: The following install step failed: run preupgrade script for AppleMobileDevice Support.  When this happened before I trashed itunes and started over, but I don't want to have to do that everytime i install an upgrade.

    C,
I ran into the same issue. Make sure your apple device in disconnected from the computer. It interrupts the itunes download. Disconnect and make sure itunes is closed, then try installing again. Remember that even though you close of itunes, it is often still running in the background. To make sure it's closed, click and hold the mouse on the itunes icon and select quit from the drop down menu. Then try installing the updated itunes.
    Hope that helps.

  • AppleMobileDevice using upto 100% of CPU, pls help

I have recently downloaded itunes 10.5.0.142 and since then I'm having major problems.
When i start up the computer the AppleMobileDevice is using 100% of the CPU and won't allow me to do anything until the process is stopped.  When i do finally get on to itunes i cannot connect to ITunes store.
I have tried removing all of the Itunes, apple software and quicktime and reloading it but the same problem still occurs.
    Any advice please?

    4) I would remove finder plist files (com.apple.finder.plist from ~/Library/Preferences)
This is less effective than it once was because Mavericks caches plist files, so even if you trash the plist file(s) it will continue to use the cached versions, & if anything in one of them is updated, the cached version gets written back to the Preferences folders, making it harder than it used to be to get rid of corrupted ones.
Supposedly, you can force the cached version to be flushed with a "defaults read" Terminal command, but you need to know which domain name to use with the command for this to work. (See the man page for defaults for the appropriate syntax.)
For some plist files an immediate restart does the same thing, but unfortunately many Finder plist files are updated at shutdown or log out time, so this is sort of hit or miss.

  • I've received a new Ipod and after installing Itunes it takes over my PC's processor. I tunes and Applemobiledevice software are the two offending items.

As an pod newbie I'm falling at the first hurdle. I've installed itunes directly from the Apple website, but it takes over my system resources completely. I can get it to see my Ipod, but the sync option is greyed out in the menu.
Surely Itunes and Applemobiledevice cannot be that system hungry. My PC is unusable with itunes running.
I've made sure windows is up to date and I've uninstalled & re-installed itunes - all to no effect.

  • AppleMobileDevice.kext problems after Migration

    Hello,
maybe some of you could help me with this problem...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2430599&tstart=0
    Thanks in advance!

Are you sure you are migrating to a G5, and not an Intel Mac? They are NOT the same thing. Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac to tell the processor on the Mac. If it is Intel, you went about the wrong process for migration, and should use this one after backing up* your data and erase and installign the new Mac's software:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350
G5s are technically not new, they are just newer than G4s. The last G5 was sold new pre-August 7, 2006.

  • IPhone 5 not syncing with iTunes 10.0.3

My iPhone 5 (version iOS 6.1.4) is not syncing with iTunes 10.0.3 ?
When I plug my iPhone 5 into my Mac Pro (version OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.3) the iPhone 5 syncs with iPhoto but not iTunes ?
The phone 5 is being charged via the USB cable into the Mac Pro, I can import photos via iPhoto from the iPhone 5, but I can not get iTunes to sync with the iPhone.
I have gone through all the steps in the "iPhone not appearing in iTunes" support assistant link with no luck:
    iPhone not appearing in iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/#section_1
Does anyone have any suggestions ?

I finally got iTunes to sync with my iPhone 5
I followed the step by step instructions in this archived support article:

If the issue remains, try these steps:
Disconnect the device and quit iTunes.
In the Finder, locate iTunes in the Applications folder and drag it to the Trash. (This will not remove any of your iTunes media or your iTunes library.)
Choose Go > Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:
    /System/Library/Extensions
    Click Go.
Locate the file "AppleMobileDevice.kext" and drag it to the Trash.
    Restart the Mac.
In Finder, click the Go menu and then choose Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
    Click Go.
Locate the folder "MobileDevice.framework" and drag it to the Trash.
In Finder, click the Go menu and then choose Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:

    Click Go.
Locate the file "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist~orig" and drag it to the trash. (Do not move the similarly named "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist" file to the Trash.)
    Restart the Mac.
Download iTunes and reinstall it. Test to see if the issue persists. Then, restart your Mac a final time to confirm issue is still resolved.

  • Iphone 4s and 5 not syncing with Itunes

Please someone help me. I am having the same issue with my iphone 5 and my daughters iphone 4s. We are using Windows on Asus newer laptop. We are on the most up to date versions of Windows and itunes. When you plug into computer and it connects to itunes, it says that the phone needs to be restored. When you try and restore it, it gives you an error. I then take it to anyone who has a mac to restore it, bring it back to our computers and try again. This time, it will recognize it but when you try and sync the music, it will go through steps 1-4 and then the bar with the music will instantly go back to no audio on it. I have tried the process several times and it does the same thing. When I take it to the apple store, they say it has to be an issue with my pc because it restores fine on their mac. Help!

  • IPhone won't connect to iTunes with Remote app

When I attempt to connect to my iTunes library using the Remote app on my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.2), it tells me the password is incorrect even though I'm 100% positive it is (it's only four digits, not too hard to get right). I was able to connect my iPhone to iTunes up until I installed iOS 4.2 - I think.
    Anyone else having this problem?

Follow theses steps and see if it helps.
    * Open Finder and look for the iTunes in Applications folder
    * Move the folder and the iTunes icon to the Trash
    * Open Go and type Go to Folder.
    * Type /System/Library/Extensions and hit return.
    * Find AppleMobileDevice.kext and move it to the Trash.
    * Similarly move AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg file to the trash
    * Restart the computer
    * Reinstall iTunes and see if the iPhone is detected.

  • Kernel Panic/"broken folder" icon but boots in safe mode

    I'm totally puzzled.
When I boot the computer either from the HDD or my bootable back-up, i get the broken folder icon.
But i can boot just fine in safe mode from the HDD - in fact, that's how i'm typing this message right now.
I have turned off all login items.
I repaired permissions on disk utility.
What else can i do (short of my genius bar appointment tomorrow morning)?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
I assume restoring from my backup HDD won't work since I can't boot from it?

  • ITunes; uninstalling/reinstalling; iPod...a lot of problems...

A few months ago, my computer suffered a hiccup and went to the recovery console. During this time, all major programs on my computer, including iTunes, were deleted from the hard drive. Everything had to be installed. I didn't bother trying to deal with the iTunes problem until a day ago when I finally got it in what looked like running order.
When I connected my iPod (3rd gen. nano) it didn't show up in iTunes. (Also, my iTunes icon was a green music note and I'm pretty sure iTunes has a blue music note, don't know if that's significant, but it can't hurt). It also had some issues ejecting the iPod (i.e. it wouldn't let me from the "safely remove hardware" icon in the system tray) and I had to eject from My Docs. I tried resetting the iPod using the menu & center button but did not put it into disk mode. When today I tried to uninstall iTunes & Quicktime and reinstall a new version, it looked like it had uninstalled and was installing fine, but it got to a certain point and it said "stopping processes" and it froze. At this point, an error message popped up:
"Error 1921. Service iPod Service (iPodService) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficent privileges to stop system services"
At that point, I came to the forum for help.
I read a few things that said I should stop iPodService.exe from the task manager as well as "AppleMobileDevice" but I didn't want to do that unless absolutly necessary.
I'm hoping that since I created an account (I had been using my sister's before the computer went into recovery mode) that will solve the problem.
Also, the green-music-note-version of iTunes doesn't seem to have an uninstall feature so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to go about a full uninstall.
I hope I've given enough information and someone can give me a helping hand.
If there is any other information that someone needs to help diagnose the problem, I'm more than happy to provide it.

Also see a simpler solution for Windows 7 and similarly Windows XP from Jerry at: iTunes for windows - App Store's blank page - final solution

  • Disk space used much larger than actual files

I noticed this morning that Terminal was giving a warning about running out of swap space, which I thought was odd, as /var/vm was only at around ~10GB, but later when I tried to install some updates, I noticed that it said I only had 1.8MB free on my hard drive. I ran a df -h and it showed %iused at 100%. I immediately deleted some logs to free up a few megabytes of space and started hunting for what could have been hogging all my disk space, I seem to remember having 60GB free last time I checked. I was deleting a few small files, when I noticed this
    bash-4.2# du -h -d 1
    6.2M          ./.DocumentRevisions-V100
    584K          ./.fseventsd
    583M          ./.Spotlight-V100
      0B          ./.Trashes
    31G          ./Applications
    2.1M          ./bin
    20K          ./cache
    3.8G          ./data
    5.0K          ./dev
    34M          ./Developer
    1.3M          ./EFI
    1.0K          ./home
    8.9G          ./Library
    1.0K          ./net
      0B          ./Network
    185M          ./opt
    12G          ./private
    1.5M          ./sbin
      0B          ./Shared Items
    4.1G          ./System
    52G          ./Users
    4.9G          ./usr
    4.0K          ./Volumes
    117G
So apparently, according to du, I am only using 117GB of my hard drive. I immediately ran this
    bash-4.2# df -h
Filesystem      Size   Used  Avail Capacity  iused   ifree %iused  Mounted on
    /dev/disk1     297Gi  283Gi   14Gi    96% 74220526 3630455   95%   /
    devfs          200Ki  200Ki    0Bi   100%      692       0  100%   /dev
    map -hosts       0Bi    0Bi    0Bi   100%        0       0  100%   /net
    map auto_home    0Bi    0Bi    0Bi   100%        0       0  100%   /home
So my question is how is it that all of my files combined are using 117GB, including swap, but according to df, Disk Utility and Finder I am using 283GB? I am using FileVault 2, if that helps

The 300GB partition is the partition I am booting off of, and the one I was writing about. Disk0s1 is the EFI partition, 210MB. The other Internal hard drive is the core storage physical volume, already mounted, mounted in the image. Recovery HD is the 650MB system recovery partition.
I rebooted to the recovery partition and used Disk Utility to verify the volume, it said everything checked out alright.
In disk utility, the top entry has this data
Name :     Internal Hard Drive     Capacity :     319.21 GB (319,213,174,784 Bytes)
Type :     Logical Volume Group     Available :     16.8 MB (16,777,216 Bytes)
Disk Status :     Online     Used :     319.2 GB (319,196,397,568 Bytes)
However the other entry, right below it has this
         Mount Point :     /     Capacity :     318.88 GB (318,877,626,368 Bytes)
Format :     Encrypted Logical Partition     Available :     202.18 GB (202,175,160,320 Bytes)
Owners Enabled :     Yes     Used :     116.7 GB (116,702,466,048 Bytes)
Number of Folders :     241,519     Number of Files :     1,246,454
So I guess the reboot fixed my problem, df -h now shows 37% used, but the logical vomume group still shows only 16MB free. Anyways, things seem to be working now.

  • IPod Touch 3G (iOS 4.1) not being recognized in iTunes (10.5.2.11) on Mac OS 10.7 Lion

Prior to updating my Mac OS to OS (10.7.2) Lion, and thus while on Snow Leopard (10.6.8), I began experiencing problems with my iPod Touch 3G running iOS 4.1 which was not being detected by the latest version of iTunes (10.5.2.11). It was quite frustrating since i could access the iPod on other computers and with this same version of iTunes, with no problem and thus, it had to be a problem isolated to my computer. In addition, my iPod was working fine and therefore, didn't merit an OS restore and I was also reluctant to perform one. Lastly, it seemed like upon plugging my iPod into the USB ports, the mac would detect the device but would subsequently, partially eject eject so that the device would cease charging but would still be visible in System Profiler.
These were some of the solutions I sought, after not finding an answer specifically for Mac OS 10.7 Lion. I hope it helps, as this was a complicated fix.
I would recommend deleting the 'AppleMobileDevice' Service see: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1747 (This should allow the device to remain connected and charging on the mac)
    Re-install iTunes (latest version)
Also, make sure you have the most up-to-date version of Xcode which incorporate iOS connectivity in the software.
Launch 'Image Capture' from Applications, and in devices you should see your iOS device (iPod Touch in my case) appear in the 'Devices' tab
Select 'iTunes' in the dialog area which allows you to choose which app should launch the device.
Here, I noticed that iTunes didn't immediately respond, but by specifying iPhoto and Aperture, the iPod began to Open in these applications
At this point, I quit and re-install iTunes from a download from Apple's website.
Prior to re-running the installer I re-selected iTunes in Image Capture, and after the installer completed most of the installation, iTunes began to launch.
At completion, iTunes began to launch again, and loaded the iPod Touch in the side bar again.
P.S. I perhaps should acknowledge that I had spent maybe an entire week, crushed and loosing productive time over this problem. I eventually began to pray and trust God (Jesus) that it would eventually work again.

I have the same problem, that when iTunes is open it does not recognize when a CD is inserted.  I don't have an answer but I have a workaround that may be similar to yours.
The problem occurred the first time I tried to import a CD after having updated iTunes on October 12.  I think this is the first version to support iCloud (which I don't use).  That version did not have a Help Menu.  I reinstalled iTunes and now have 10.5.0.142.  I did get a Help Menu but still no recognition of CDs.
I can import CDs if I close iTunes and let AutoPlay take over.  I have AutoPlay set to "Import songs using iTunes".  "Show songs using iTunes"  is closer to the setting you want.  When the CD is inserted AutoPlay opens iTunes and iTunes sees the CD.

When I plug in my iPhone 5 w/OS 8.1.2 and try to sync. w/iTunes 12.0.1 it crashes. Any fixes?

I noticed this problem, iTunes displayed my iphone, but crashed soon after, with the color spinning wheel.
I did the following things and it worked for me.
I downloaded the last version of itunes, remove iTunes.app with CleanApp, and all these files.
    /Library/Frameworks/iTunesLibrary.framework
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library/MobileDevices.bun dle
    /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext

    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DeviceLink.framework
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iTunesAccess.framework
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework
I restarted, installed iTunes, restarted again and I was able to sync again.
