  • What is the 4M0T/4/40000002: Exhaust-0  error?

I know that something is wrong with my computer lately because when I try to watch a video, or using skype, or media applications and programs, my computer starts freezing and the pointer moves really slow...I did the hardware test and it said that my computer has the 4M0T/4/40000002: Exhaust-0 error....but what is the problem? does it have relation with the fan or something, because also it gets really hot when I'm trying to watch any video

Also, stop using your mac.  If indeed the fans have died, your mac has little defense against heat and further damage could be done.  Turn it off and don't turn it on again unless told to do so by either a genius at the Apple store, an AASP rep, or a technician at another qualified repair facility.

I need help lol... I have this macbook 2012 mid 13 inch and all of a sudden this morning it stopped working... like it turns on the keyboard and everything but the screen doesn't turn on and with a flashlight I can see the screen so it's like the backlights failing. Not the inverter.  What do you guys recommend I should do? Do you think that 4m0t/4/40000002 error is making the screen very low light?  I really need a flash light to see can't see the screen without flashlight. Also, as I was doing this hardware test the macbook was really hot. Like burning my hand.. it was tested while I had the flashlight on.

    HI,
When I ran the Apple Hardware Test this was the error message i got - 4M0T/1/40000002 left side_981. What is this error?
Hoping for an answer to this query.
    Thanks!

It's a failed or failing fan motor. Get it replaced ASAP. Don't use the machine with half its cooling capacity missing or impaired.

Also how do i run disk first aid on the computer off of the install disks?  Which disk do i do it from.  Thanks in advance. Stuart

Sounds like your hard drive it about to die.
    I would backup ASAP.
To run First Aid on your disk, you need to boot from the install DVD for your Mac.
After selecting the language, open Disk Utiltity and repair the disk.

  • Ran Hardware test on 17" 10.5.6 Error Code 2STF/3/3:ATA-100ata-6-master came up @ mass storage run area.

Have a Powerbook G4 17" 1.57GHz BRV 4.8.4f1 Mem.1 GB HDr. ATA:3,ID:0, Ran HARDWARE Test 2.2 hit Mass Storage test area when Error Code 2STF/3/3:ATA-100ata-6-Master stopped test. Shut comp down by holding pwr button for 5 secs. Waited 20 minutes and restarted w/option button and ran test again hit Mass Storage and Error Code 2STF/8/ rest is same as previous error code. Something about Node pop up after running disk utility a few days ago. Comp is was running  very slow. Only change besides updates was Macdefender. Do I need to take it to be repaired at an Apple place? Thank you.

First, you need to remove macdefender, which is a scam program. Apple note http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4650 provides these instructions:
    Removal steps
Move or close the Scan Window.
Go to the Utilities folder in the Applications folder and launch Activity Monitor.
Choose All Processes from the pop up menu in the upper right corner of the window.
Under the Process Name column, look for the name of the app and click to select it; common app names include: MacDefender, MacSecurity or MacProtector.
Click the Quit Process button in the upper left corner of the window and select Quit.
    Quit Activity Monitor application.
    Open the Applications folder.
Locate the app ex. MacDefender, MacSecurity, MacProtector or other name.
Drag to Trash, and empty Trash.
Malware also installs a login item in your account in System Preferences. Removal of the login item is not necessary, but you can remove it by following the steps below.
Open System Preferences, select Accounts, then Login Items
Select the name of the app you removed in the steps above ex. MacDefender, MacSecurity, MacProtector
    Click the minus button
Now, after you do that, reboot your system. Bring up disk utillity and verify the disk. Preferred would be to boot from OS X on DVD or a Firewire backup, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk, but verify disk when Disk Utility is loaded from the hard drive should work. Write down any messages, like bad node or whatever.
If you get a message that the program exits with a failure, then there is a disk error that Disk Utility won't be able to fix. That could mean buying Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro to fix the error. Disk Warrior tends to be the disk fix program of choice. Depending on the error, it's possible that Disk Utility won't be able to fix the problem, in which case the fix is usually a new hard drive. Note, a new hard drive will be cheaper than Disk Warrior (at $95 or so).
Smart Utility from http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php will give you good insight into the condition of your hard drive, as it reports on your SMART sensors.

  • I run a hardware test and it gave me the error code 4mot/4/40000003:HDD-1500: does anyone know what it means?

    Hello,
I have a problem of my iMac freezing up regularly for no obvious reason.
So I ran a hardware test and it returns me only with the code  4MOT/4/40000003:HDD-1500.
I need some help to know what that means and how to repair my iMac.
    William

William, unfortunately it means your hard disk drive has or is failing and needs to be replaced. Hopefully you have a current backup or clone. You can have the drive replaced at an Apple Store or AASP or do it yourself if you're inclined by following the guide fir your specific iMac at http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Mac_Desktop

  • Blue screen of death with HDD Hardware Test error on iMac HELP!!

My iMac is not starting up.  It just get the blue screen of death during startup.  It is a 2.66 mghz duo with 2gb 800 ram.  I was able to get the Hardware test to run and got an error of 4M0T/2/40000004: HDD-1560.  I am assuming it is an error with the internal hard drive since I have nothing else hooked up to the mac other than the keyboard and mouse right now.  Does this code mean my hard drive is completely shot?  Any help would be appreciated.

    4M0T/2/40000004: HDD-1560.
    Either failing or failed
You can have Apple replace the drive at a nearby Apple store or an Apple certified repair shop.

  • Hardware test w/o errors

has anybody run the hardware test and come up without any errors? mine had 2. now apple is sending it back due to a MLB Failure.

I just ran it on mine w/no errors. I tried the normal one and the extended and nothing came up. Now for me apparently I do have the whine but it's only noticeable if it's very quiet and I put my ear against it. Opening and closing the mirror widget seems to take care of it. As for the heat issue, it's a tad bit warmer then my 800 mhz ibook. There's only two real problem I'm having with my wonderful MacBook Pro. One just some minor fit issues on the front left, upper left side near the inputs and that the left of the lid is not 100% flush. Two the backlight keys only light in the dark if the computer wakes from sleep. So overall nothing major that would hinder my enjoyment of this wonderful machine.

  • Shuting Down During Hardware Test

    Hi,
    I have a Macbook 1.83 Coreduo I purchased Last July (2006).
Whenever I run the hardware test it shuts down about 1 minute into the test.
I have had some problems with the computer and have had to have the logic board replace 3 times. I have all the latest software updates.
I installed two gigs of non-apple ram back in september.
Could any one shed any light on this Hardware test shut down problem?
    Thanks!
    Dan.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response,
The shut down would happen during the memory test step, in both the regular and extended hardware tests.
As I have been having some issues with the Macbook, today I wiped the hard drive and re-installed the original software. I then reset the PRAM.
Afterwards I tried the regular and extended hardware test again.
It completed the regular hardware test, however I received the following error message.
4MOT/1/40000002 CenterLowerFront. (If anyone can enlighten me on what this means it would be appreciated)
It shut down again during the extend test in the memory test step.
I quickly purchased the extended apple care plan after the second logic board replacement.
I suppose I will have to take it in again to resolve these issues.
    Thanks again.
    Dan.

  • Mac Pro 2.66 Quad - Hardware Test error

    Hi all !
I am trying to help out someone in another state with their Mac Pro problem so bear with me ...
The machine is a MacPro 2009 I believe, 2.66GHz Quad. and it's having startup issues - at the moment it's NOT starting so I am told !
Before it went totally down someone was able to run the Apple Hardware Test on it and got an error code -
    4SNS/1/40000000: TMA4- 128.000
Ive searched and found the 4SNS refers to a possible sensor problem, but the TMA part of the code is unknown ...
It is also showing 1 of the 4 red ram led lights so there looks like a ram issue as well, but Im just wondering if anyone can shed more light on the error above so I can try to pinpoint the problems closer ?
At the moment Im being told by the locals it might be the logic board which of course is quite expensive ...
    Mitch

My rule of thumb when faced with multiple problems is to address any you can get your hands around, and the symptoms may change and clarify the other problem.
A RAM LED stuck on is a memory failure, and that is easy to fix -- remove or replace the failing module.
It is also possible the sensor complaint is about that module -- they have temp sensors on them.
If you are replacing modules in a 2009 or later, don't buy smaller than 8GB replacements, they are cheap enough now at about US$75 from

  • Apple Hardware Test: HDD

    Hello there,
    I own an iMac 27" (late-2009).
A few days ago, when I pressed the power button (voilà), it returned my a kernel panic gray-screen, with ACPI driver error log.
Just tried to (archive) install the OS X (Snow) again but no success. Then, formatted and seems to workin'  good.
2 days later, same error... But Archive+Install worked fine.
Today I've fired the Apple Hardware Test and it showed the following error:
    4MOT/4/40000003: HDD-1278
I've done my insanely Google search, but no success.
Does anyone knows what means this error? May I have to change the Hard Drive Disk ?
    Thanks so much,
    -D

For the 27: Optical drive 998 rpm, hard drive 1100 rpm and CPU fan 938 rpm
There are some temps reflecting computers mostly at idle in this thread. They could go somewhat higher.

Unless you see some really wacky HD fan speed, can't really tell whether it's the drive or the HD fan. Needs to be diagnosed by Apple or some tech.

  • 4HDD/11/40000004: SATA (0,0) - Apple Extended Hardware Test

    Hi!
My mid-2009 13-inch Macbook Pro's performance deteriorated last month. It become super super slow.
So, out of curiosity, I performed an Apple Extended Hardware Test. And here is the error code: 4HDD/11/40000004: SATA (0,0)
I didn't expect that problem to arise so I don't have any back-up of my essential files. I tried to copy my files to an external drive but copying a 600MB folder required me to wait for more than 30 min before receiving the error code which said somthing like "files cannot be copied"
Then, I bought a new 60GB Kingston SSDnow V+ and 4GB Trascend 1066Mhz RAM. I successfully installed Snow Leopard on my new SSD and installed the new 4GB memory. Things went well. I even booted my mac so fast using my new SSD via USB enclosure.
But the problem came when I installed my new drive internally. Flashing question mark appears when starting my Mac. Internal drive is also not recognized by Disk utility when booting my Mac from OS X Installation Disk. Installed my old drive and no success.
I don't know if the problem is the compatibility of my SSD or the SATA cable. For now, I'm booting my Mac on my new SSD via a USB External Enclosure. My old drive is installed internally but it is not recognized. And I find it too inconvenient to use my Mac booting externally (even though the performance is ultra fast) since I'm a college student.
    My problems:
    a. What to do so that my SSD will be recognized when connected on my Mac internally via SATA?
    b. What to do so that I can have a back-up of my very essential files saved on my old drive? (I remember booting from my old drive connected via USB Enclosure took me more than 1 hour, then logging in to enter my password took me to watch that spinning rainbow wheel forever)
P.S. Sorry if you find grammatically incorrect sentences.
I also leave here in the Philippines. And there is no Apple Store here. Apple Authorized Service Centers don't sell the SATA cable. Purchasing the cable via internet is not feasible due to the following reasons: a. My location. b. I'm still a student and I don't have a credit card to pay an online purchase.
Your generous help will be much appreciated.
Here's additional info on my Mac:

Well, usually DW (Disk Warrior) may be able to fix that; see this discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/424787?start=0&tstart=0
You need to use DW from either an external boot disk or the DW CD since repairs cannot be made on a volume that you are booted up from.
You can take a look at DW here:
