Apples DRM softwear and suport

I am a committed apple user who has supported apple for over 15 years now but I am very upset over the lack of support for TV on demand over the Internet. Specifically the BBCs (iPlayer) and channel 4 (4OD) two free on demand services in the UK that can not be assessed using apple mac
I know it not all down to apple or the broad casters but dose anyone know when the problems will be resolved and I be able to use these services with my mac. Or am I for the first time in 15 years going to be forced to bye a PC...
One very disappointed mac user, who cant believe that apple have dropped the ball so badly and are missing out on this fundamental part of the dream that was to have the mac as a digital hub of everyones new iLife

I don't want to sound harsh but what on earth has this got to do with Apple 'dropping the ball' for heaven's sake? I'm sure Apple would love to have all that BBC content freely downloadable, but it is the BBC who choose how to deploy it's programming content.
The BBC themselves went for a Windows based DRM only iPlayer download platform but isn't there supposed to be Mac support later this year?
You can watch the low quality streaming on a Mac (Flash) and watch it on the iPhone with wi-fi access (Quicktime movie). The QT streaming movie on iPhone at least encourages me that we might see DRM downloads which will play on iPhone/ipod/AppleTV and Macs in the not too distant future.

  • I connected my ipod before installing softwear and now it wont work

i connected my ipod before installing softwear and now it wont work...like abosolutely nothing...its frozen

First of all, try resetting the iPod. It may take several attempts and is best done connected power.
Then download the iPod Updater, install this to your computer, restart the computer, run the Updater, then connect your iPod when prompted (not before), then follow the set up procedure.

  • How to know if PHDS is actually DRM'd and aes-128 encrypted, and what does it mean?

    hi
trying to figure out pRTMP which resulted in un-encrypted streams, an issue which has not been resolved yet:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4412068
we have tried using the PHDS protocol for serving VOD (video on demand) content to a flash player
using OSMF on a Flash 11 player like suggested.
everything seems to be ok, the stream is being published, and the .f4m meta file
seems to contain the DRM data.
What i do not understand is the lack of any
flash client interaction with this stream.
you simply need an OSMF player running on flash player 11 and you can play
the PHDS Stream, so where does the DRM come in?
is it only for protecting the stream from being listened to by a "man in the middle"?
or is it for protecting the stream from being served too many times?
is it to disable the ability to simply save the stream to a file?
is PHDS simply a one push button solution to create DRM'd streams
which don't require any special interaction with the app running on the flash player?
such as required when using the Flash Access server (which is a stand alone DRM server)
and last, the PHDS documentation describes a packager for video files,
but it is unclear when this tool has to be used to package streams, because it seems
that streams that have not been subjected to this tool still report valid DRM data inside
the f4m manifest, so when to use it, and can we trust the DRM metadata saying
that DRM is enabled and encrypted? (we have the same issue with the pRTMP which said stream is protected
but it was actually not so)
    an f4m generated example:
    <manifest xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/f4m/1.0">
    <id>973266-40.mp4</id><streamType>recorded</streamType>

    </manifest>

    Hi,
I'll try to answer as many questions as best as I can
    1. PHDS protects your content from being copied and stored by someone. An OSMF based player may be able to play your content but not steal it.
    2. PHDS does not protect your content "from being served too many times". However, PHDS has a 24Hours policy which ensures that the client cant request new content after the expiration of 24Hours.
    3. In PHDS the When Flash Media Server packages the content, it generates the license and embeds it into the DRM metadata of the content stream. The client parses this metadata and retrieves the license information from this DRM metadata. So there is no communication required between the client and a License server.
    4. The f4f packaging process mentioned in the doc is to package on-demand content just-in-time when the client requests for it. There is not external tool. This is handled by the Apache module. So you see the drm meta information in your f4m file.
We also provide an offline tool that fragments and packages on-demand content. The output of the tool is protected content that you can store on your disk and stream over HTTP. For more information regarding this see : http://help.adobe.com/en_US/HTTPStreaming/1.0/Using/WS9463dbe8dbe45c4c-c126f3b1260533756d- 7ffc.html
PHDS supports SWF verification. SWF verification prevents unauthorized SWF files from accessing content. For more information regarding this see : http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/devguide/WS47c0525fe440307e-685173b213221ed70 9a-8000.html#WSf46ce027e10bcc403985a9eb131ba034bd1-8000
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

You need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components; this won't affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • New softwear and now ipod works on its own

I have a ipod, 3rd generation, which i just loaded with most current softwear and now it runs on its own.  I mean I won't be touching it and it is moving and playing music, jumping from song to song....also can no longer use WiFi - what happened...its never done this before on an upgrade....

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to update automatically (sync). An iPod that is set to update automatically will also disconnect automatically once it is finished syncronising with iTunes.
If you want to access the iPod directly, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos. If you want to manage it manually then connect your iPod and click on the iPod icon in the iTunes source list to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. In the Summary tab check the box "manually manage music and videos" and click Apply:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on the desktop and check this link for alternative methods:: Safely Disconnect IPod

How come my Apples (Mac, Ipad and Ipod) suddenly quit syncing calendars. It was working great for 5 months and now they're all mad at each other.

Are you a MobileMe subscriber and sync calendars using it? If so, did you upgrade to the new MobileMe Calendar before the deadline of May 5th?

  • DRM content and Airplay without internet does not work.

First off I am extremely pleased with my cutover to the Apple world. Like many I have been using the "gateway" Apple products for years and have just recently purchased a new MBP.
I have just spent the better part of a day testing out what happens when you purchase a movie from the iTunes store and attempt to play it via AirPlay (ATV2) without an internet connection. It does NOT work or at least I could not make it happen. Its taking a little shine off Apple for me, and definitely something that will make me think twice before going deeper into the "Cloud."
My specific need is to have both purchased and rented movies on my shiny new MBP and stream them via AirPlay in my RV with an ATV2 that does not have an internet connection.
Before any pseudo techies chime in, here are the test cases I have used:
    1. Connect my wireless router to the internet and connect the ATV2 and MBP to the router (wirelessly) everything works perfect.
    2. Disable internet access to the router and cold boot both ATV2 and MBP then reconnect both to the router (wirelessly) to simulate a roadtrip in the RV.
Result #1: movies that I have created (HandBrake copies of DVDs) work perfectly
Result #2: movies that I have purchased via iTunes ----DO NOT WORK with AirPlay (I get an error message saying cannot connect to ATV2)
Result #3: Digital copies that come with the Bluray for iTunes DO NOT WORK with Airplay (same message from #2)
Result #4: If I reconnect the router back to the internet then everything works fine.
Unless I am missing something here (and please let me know) I would suspect that there is a DRM workflow here that requires home sharing to connect back to my Apple account, correct?

What you are experiencing is identical to my experience.  With the recent power losses in the Northeast due to Irene, we lost cable and internet connectivity.  Luckily we had a generator so that we could still watch our movie and TV library on AppleTV.  We were wrong.  While we have purchased and own many TV shows, virtually none of them were available for streaming via an iPad, iphone or any of our imacs using Airplay to a TV.  Compounding matters, it was also impossible to take a direct VGA connection from the computer where my itunes library resides, and play DRM content on our TV.  What is crazy about this, is that this is for content that we purchased...some of it several years old.
I understand Hollywood's desire to control piracy, but this is not the way to do it.  There should not be a need for an internet connection to play DRM content on the devices that have shared itunes accounts.  This would mean that if you take your AppleTV anywhere w/out an internet connection (for example on travel), you will not be able to view any content that you own that resides on your macbook or ipad (at least you will not be able to view it on a TV).

  • DRM content and mini display port

Is it (or will it be) possible to broadcast DRM content from a mac to a digital display/TV through the mini display port? (eg from Mac through MDP/HDMI cable to display/TV)

I haven't been able to get a definitive answer on this from anyone. Apple's not talking. And until someone makes a MDP to HDMI adapter, it'll probably remain a mystery.

  • DRM free and Backup

I was wondering if I upgrade my present purchases to the DRM free option, and burn another backup disc and select "Only back up items added or changed since last backup" from the backup menu (iTunes 8.0), will this enable the DRM free option on the previously backed up tracks if I ever have to use the backup (11 discs total)? I was hoping I wouldnt have to burn 11 more discs again. Also, will it enable the 256K bit rate on my previously backed up purchases, once I run them all?

When you upgrade to iTunes Plus, it does nothing to the original files.
Selectng *Only back up items added or changed since last backup* will back up all the new iTunes Plus and anything else you have added since last backup.
Also, will it enable the 256K bit rate on my previously backed up purchases
No. It doesn't "enable" the old files to change. You purchased entirely new files.

  • T43 won't read DVD that has safedisc DRM encryption and System Update not showing BIOS update

I've just acquired a second hand T43 (2668WZT) that is working fine with one exception. I cannot get it to recognise a game DVD that apparently has safedisc DRM encryption on it to prevent copying. The DVD works with no problem on my desktop system but I thought it would be useful to be able to run it on the Thinkpad as well when travelling.
Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem might be? I'm on BIOS level 1.24 and the BIOS level is now up to 1.29 which raises the other slight mystery. I've installed the latest version of system update but that is not flagging any BIOS update as available so I'm a bit reluctant to download and install in case there is some pre-req missing.
All advice on either issue gratefully received!

Yes. It is possible that the DVD could be bad.
It is also possible that your corrupted installation is preventing the DVD from working right.
It would seem strange, except that this happened with another guy as well. But, once we disconnected his internal hard drive with the corrupted OS 10.4.7 install, the machine booted from the DVD and worked properly. We then connected a different hard drive to install to, and it worked fine. Then, we connected the drive as a secondary and formatted it and it resumed working.
But, with an iMac CoreDuo, you cannot open the machine to unplug the drive. So, you'll be a bit stuck if you require the same solution. He had a PowerMac G5.
But, basically, his corrupted OS 10.4.7 installation was preventing booting from a CD, booting into safe mode, booting from an external drive, or any other kind of booting.
So, for him, the only option was disconnecting the internal drive and installing on another one.
I hope this doesn't turn out to be necessary on your system as well. If so, you'll need to take it into the shop for servicing.
The only other option I could think of is to try and boot it into Target Disk mode, and format it's drive with another computer. Perhaps that would work.
Once your internal drive has been cleared (formatted), then it may boot from the DVD again (assuming your problem is the same as the other guys).
You can read about Target Disk Mode here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
You can read about the steps we took to troubleshoot and repair the other guys machine here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2629919#2629919
Perhaps that will help explain what I described above.
    I hope this helps.

  • SAP XI 2.0 Maintenance and Suport

    Hi,
Does anyone know or can point me in the direction of a document detailing the maintenance and support dates for SAP XI 2.0  ?
    Many thanks
    Richard

    Hi Gabriel,
SAP XI 3.0 enhances the functional range of SAP XI 2.0 by a lot of new features. The most important new features are:
    Cross-component Business Process Management
a.You can model executable integration processes and
store them in the Integration Repository.
    b. You can execute integration processes on a Business
Process Engine that is part of the SAP XI runtime
    environment.
    B2B Integration
    a. Collaboration partner data can be maintained in the
    Integration Directory.
    b. A Partner Connectivity Kit (PCK) allows the
integration of business partners not using SAP XI or
    other integration solution.
    Industry standard support
    a. RosettaNet communication with business partners is
    supported through a RosettaNet adapter.
    b. The RosettaNet adapter is part of an overall package
to enable SAP solutions to participate in RosettaNet
    integration.
Adapter Framework and certification of adapters
    a. A JCA-based adapter framework allows the integration
of adapters provided by SAP as well as by partners.
    b. The integration of partner adapters is certifiable.
Simplified Configuration by Using Integration Scenarios as Templates
    a. You can configure integration scenarios from the
    Integration Repository and semi-automatically generate
    all relevant configuration objects.
    Enhanced Integration Builder functions
    a. You can define data-dependent user authorizations
    b. You can define an infinite number of change lists for
each user and exchange objects between different
    change lists of different users.

  • Quite disgusted that the flash drive and camera kit don't work with apples usual ease and style. Fix it and redeem yourselves.

when will you fix this issue?

We are just fellow users here, these forums are not monitored by Apple - if you want to leave feedback for Apple then you can do so here http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
But in terms of the camera connection kit, it works as it is specified- as an SD card reader and as a direct connection to a camera. It is not advertised as being a flash drive connection kit.
