Applescript changes in Photoshop CS5 on Mac
Looks like there are some major Applescript changes to CS5, which is unwelcome for anyone with existing scripts. From what I can see, the difference (that affect me anyway) are
a) PCS5 seems to dislike referring to files with "as alias" and removing this from my scripts helps them to work, whereas other apps need it, as did previous
b) apparently script support for referring to the currently document has changed. "if visible layer of current document is true then..." no longer works, nor do document 0, document 1, etc. Anyone know how to refer to the current document?
c) support for history doesn't seem to be there anymore. I cannot seem to use AS commands like, "set myState to history states as list" or "set current history state to history state newState" were awesome for my workflow, but are they impossible to achieve now?
Oops, and the important "set docref to make new document with properties {height: 150, width: 150}" is also broken. How would one make a new document in Applescript?
I hope I don't need to be worried about the changes to Applescript in the new Photoshop. I know they changed a lot on the inside, and problems are going to crop up. Not being able to do use my favorite program as needed in a Mac-like way will likely push me over the top and have me find an alternative for our company's workflow...

Thank you.Raw support is version specific. There is no way to simply force install a new version of ACR into an older Photoshop. You need to consider upgrading or use the DNG converter.

I have a version of Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Mac OS, which I use on my desktop. I've recently purchased an HP laptop, is there a way to use my licensed CS5 version of Photoshop on my new HP PC?
No, the CS5 software is operating system-specific and even if you were willing to trade for the Windows version you could not at this point due to that only being possible for the latest. release, CS6.

Have you tried resetting at launch (cmd+opt+shift)? That card and 10.6.6, ostensibly, should work. My older ATI 3870 on 10.6.6 works. I don't have an iMac to check with just now, but hopefully can take a look next week.

im trying to open photoshop cs5 for mac, but it gets stuck on licencing.
i click "accept" but after a few seconds the licencing window keeps popping up.
i tried re-installing it a few times, but same thing happens again and again.

I'd appreciate any help you could give me in updating my scriptsI just found the AppleScript documentation in /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5/Scripting/Documents/. But I don't think it's even accurate. Here's a very simple sample they give:
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5"
filter current layer of the current document using lens blur with options {class:lens blur, radius:13}
end tell
If I enter this in AppleScript Editor and try to compile it, it selects the word "current" and tells me "Expected end of line but found identifier." It doesn't even recognize "filter" as a command. If I just change that 5 to a 4, it works fine in CS4.
Here's one way to run a JavaScript file from AppleScript:
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5" to open file "Path:to:file.jsx"
Of course there's no way to pass any arguments this way, so that greatly limits its usefulness. But perhaps this will be helpful to some people. I'm assuming the JavaScript stuff all works fine, as that seems to be their focus these days.
The really strange thing is that certain things seem to work fine in AppleScripts that are already compiled (using CS4). But if I try to re-save those scripts with CS5 installed, I get errors. -
Incorrect text size in Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Mac?

I am posting this for an older gentleman who is a photographer and uses Photoshop on his Mac. His iMac runs OSX 10.9.3 and he uses version 12.0.4 X64 of Photoshop CS5. I noticed when I was to his place the other day giving him tutoring sessions that his Photoshop has issue with displaying text sizes incorrectly...
For example, we took one of his scanned image files of a slide and changed it's resolution lower so he could send it to a journalist for an article. He wanted to add his name, a date, and a copyright symbol down in the corner of the image....fine. However, the text is showing up as what LOOKS like 12-point, but we have it set to 0.3!!!! It's VERY frustrating! I read many people had issues with this and fixed it by updating, but his Adobe Updater program says there are no newer versions of Photoshop available for him to update to...? Can anybody tell me how to fix this issue for him or point me in the right direction? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!!
Cheers and thanks!Having type set to the default Points, can be problematic IMO, and I always set it to Milimeters in Preferences > Units & Rulers > Type. That way I know that if my image size is, say 10 inches high, and I choose a Type size of 25, it will be one tenth the height of the image regardless of resolution (ppi).

Why does Photoshop CS5 Extended (Mac) keep randomly freezing?
I'm running Photoshop CS5 Extended for Mac. I've had it for over a year now and it has worked perfectly fine until now.
Mac OS X
Version 10.6.8
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
The issue started a few weeks ago. I can't think of anything in particular that could've spurred it. What happens is that (generally within a few brush strokes, like five to ten) the program freezes. It gives me the little grey spinning wheel telling me that it's thinking, and that never stops. I've left it for hours before, waiting to see if it would ever snap out of it, and nothing. I always have to force quit the application.
There's no particular tool that makes this happen, because it's happened on everything from brush strokes to changing contrast to switching tools.
It's not like I'm using giant files—some are large and have lots of layers, but others are small blank canvases. It isn't like I'm running too many programs, because sometimes it happens while Photoshop is running by itself (no other programs.) There doesn't seem to be anything in particular that triggers it.
I've installed all the recent updates that could possibly be related to it—no dice.
I even tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling it. I had hoped that if it were some sort of bug due to settings I had changed or something, that would get rid of it. It didn't, but I'm inclined to think I didn't manage to remove everything related to the program, because when it opened after the reinstall, it still had all the same brush settings it had before I had uninstalled it. (Not sure if that means anything.)
Since I make a portion of my living off of illustration and graphic design commissions, it's incredibly important that Photoshop is usable, and fast. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.Digu6220 wrote:

Something must have changed a few weeks ago, perhaps it was an update? Adding a new font or plug-in?

Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Mac install problem.
I just purchased Adobe Photoshop CS 5 for Mac and installed it on December 17, 2013. Last week I updated to a new harddrive. I am trying to re-install Photoshop and the disc asks all the usual questions: serial number, Adobe ID, Adobe Password, then the disk kicks out and says done. I open the applications folder and the Adobe Photoshop folder only has one file with 30 KB. Obviously, Photoshop will not open.
I was concerned that Adobe Photoshop CS6 would require me to update my computer to Mac OS 10.8. I updated from Mac OS 10.6.8 to 10.7.5 and lost my old InDesign and my old Photoshop. I purchased InDesign CS6. I read online that Photoshop CS6 was having problems with Mac OS 10.7.5 so I went with Photoshop CS5. I went to Best Buy and Simply Mac to try and purchase the program. They both told me to just go online and buy it. Nobody said go directly to Adobe. The problem is that I am just a homeowner that is not in the know about all these products. My wife is a school teacher and I could have purchased an education version. I thought, no I will just go ahead and purchase the full retail version.
The problem with Adobe is they think everyone is a computer geek and knows all about operating systems and programs. I am just a normal homeowner that is being taken advantage of by Adobe. Adobe manufactured and sold this product to a retail dealer. The product I purchased has never been licensed and I paid full retail for it. Now Adobe will not stand behind it!
