AppleScript compare vs other Automation tools

I wanted to know if AppleScript has the same capabilities for Mac Automation like EggPlant, Silk, TestComplete? I need to automation a particular software application the only problem is all the automation stuff is mostly base for Windows and very few for Mac. I need to know if there are any tools out there that I can use to Automation a certain Mac product

The tools you mentioned are for software testing. That is not automation. If you are looking for software testing, then AppleScript is not what you want because it would not exercise the same pathways that the normal UI would run. I don't know of any Mac tool that will do that. I wouldn't put any confidence in this type of testing anyway.

  • Limitations of Discoverer compared to Other Reporting tools

    Hi,
I need to evaluate the Pro's and Con's of Oracle Discoverer. Can u please tell me the advantages and disadvantages when compared to Business Objects, Cognos or any other Reporting Tool.
    Thanks, Prasad

    Hey Prasad.
Now there's an open question (ie: which is better, Ford or Chevy).
I'm sure this has been address on this forum before so you might want to perform a search for this subject.
However, dipping my toes in the pool ...
    1. Oracle is pushing Discoverer as an important tool in their repertoire. Future versions will now interface with XML Publisher (now BI Publisher), etc. so it's tightly inter-woven into Oracle. BO, Cognos, etc. are 3rd. party tools and therefore not tightly woven.
    2. If running Oracle Apps, then you can use the BIS views for pre-written views, Disco workbooks, etc. It's simply not practical to try to use BIS without Discoverer.
    3. Newest version of Disco (10g r2) now supports OLAP. Badly ... but it's a start.
    4. Oracle is really pushing the idea of everything being in the database and therefore they are pushing OLAP, DW stuff in the database along with your relational stuff. What this means in tools is that they're strongly pushing Disco with OLAP instead of a customer having to buy hardware, software (ie: Hyperion, Cognos, etc.), people (dbas to manage, software types to program), etc. and exporting your data from the Oracle database to a 3rd. party database to then report on. Again, Disco with OLAP (and someday if actual possible / practical) mixing your OLTP stuff with OLAP stuff.
    5. It's been awhile since I used BO and Cognos so not sure if their newest versions have the same idea of 3 versions (well 2 someday) where you create the report with Plus (or Desktop) and allow users to lightly manipulate (but not create) existing reports using a simple HTML browser (Viewer).
    6. Discoverer is a neat name as it sounds like you're stuttering ...
I'm sure they'll be lots of other reasons stated by others on this board, but if I was betting the farm on where to go, I would go with Discoverer if I had an Oracle installation. It'll cost you - and Oracle is definitely in it for making a buck or two - but if you're in for a penny with Oracle databases, etc., then you're in for a pound and using 3rd party tools that may do the same, less or even a bit more, never appeals to me as Oracle will either catch up and surpass them ... or let's be realistic ... buy them out! Like Microsoft, they've been doing that lately with a spare few billion dollars falling out of Larry's pockets.

  • BPM TOOL, what is Visual Composer Vs  any other BPM Tool

Could you please share information regarding using a modeling tool to author business process [as-is/to-be]
ours is new implemantation and we already own sap business suite software, and our implementation /configuration Team is considering of using a bpm tool to do capture the processes.
my question is what leverage can we take of Visual Composer ? when compared with other BPM Tool.

If you have license for SAP Suite, then there is lot of things you can leverage with VC than it being useless if otherwise.
    1. You can combine the output from the quick design and code free modeling environment of Visual Composer with the output from a full coding environment like Web Dynpro ABAP or BSP? Actually you can do just such a thing thanks to Portal Eventing. You can trigger event from VC. Yes, you can combine ABAP and VC
    2. You can extend Visual Composer through Web Services
    3. You can do an MDM integration in VC - combining data from varied sources
    4. You can build a Web Services Based Visual Composer Application. Visual Composer has the capability to easily link to and consume a web service from within the SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer storyboard.
Also, if you are using BSP, these applications can be linked  into a Visual Composer application. The linking is done via portal eventing. Linking these two technologies into a single application with receiving and parsing the Visual Composer event string from within ABAP.
    5. SAP has released 300+ Enterprise Services and there are many ways to consume these. A BPX can use Visual Composer and the Composite Application Framework (CAF) to consume SAP Enterprise Services using MDD - Model drived development.
    6. SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer users can develop rich graphical interfaces that extend current investments in their SAP NetWeaver infrastructure by using Flex technology (colloboration with Macromdeia) , and businesses can gain credible, clear and comprehensive business insights through new analytics solutions. There are 100+ IS specific Analytic Applications.
With the new improvements in VC 7.0 it is very clear that the future benefits align and will be much more leveraged with Visual composer
    Hope this helps

  • I want to create an applescript/automator tool to launch the "Add to library" command in iTunes with a specific path. Need process under the hood

I want to create an applescript/automator tool to launch the "Add to library" command in iTunes with a specific path. I need to know what process is run under the hood to create such a script.
To put you in context, I have an NFS mount point with all my music and with the "add to library" command, I can add more music to the folder and update iTunes without dragging the individual folders or the whole mount point and avoid having the songs show up as doubles.
Anyone know what OS/Unix process is being called for such a command?

  • Automation tools will not launch

I have Photoshop Elements 6.0 running on Windows Vista, and can no longer launch Automation Tools. It is greyed out.   It worked fine in the past, and recently stopped.  The only answer I can get from Adobe support is to upgrade to 7.0 or 8.0.   Is there a workaround for this???

In the Editor these items are not visible under Guided Edit.
Select either Full Edit or Quick Edit and then click on Enhance on the top toolbar.
In the Organizer click on the Fix tab to get to the auto-tools.

  • Content server pros and cons when compared to others

    Hi DMS Gurus,
we are in a process of deciding which storage area to go for, and the client is kneen on going for a common existing  server, as he is not kneen on spending on DMS content server.
    my question are,
can we transform any existing file server or system (which is already in use) in to a content server just by installing windows 2003, and content server CDs. if so please tell me how to go about this.
is content server only the preferred storage to process the original files in through WEB DMS, or will Starage in SAP Database,Vault or Archive also will give this funtionality.
let me please know what are the major Pros (benifits) and cons (demerits)  which Content server storage gives when compared to other storage.
    Points for sure,
    thanks in advance
    Shanti

    Shanti,
    ArchiveLink:
You use SAP ArchiveLink as a communication interface between the document management system and the archiving systems. You can display the archived data using the SAP ArchiveLink viewer. Many times there are documents generated which needs to be tied to a DIR and hence you use the archive link to tie these to a transaction and the originals can be stored in the content server.
    KPRO
KPRO apart from attaching the originals, it provides a wide range of other functionalities like content service,
where after every check in& checkout of DIR you can mantain the working copies in the content server.
Knowledge Provider is a component of SAP Web Application Server and provides the general infrastructure for storing and administrating documents. The Content Server and the Cache Server are server components that interact with the Knowledge Provider
Knowledge Provider provides the following services:
    -Services for KPro client applications
    -Document Management Framework (DMF)
    -Document Management Service (DMS)
    -Content Management Service (CMS)
-Integration of content servers and cache servers
    -Content Server
-Allows you to integrate SAP Content Sever or
    external content servers
    -Cache Server
-Allows you to store documents close to the client (caching)
    -Content Modeling Tool
    -Document Modeling Workbench (DMWB)

  • Fusion Middleware vs other middleware tools benchmark ?

    Hi All,
Do we have any benchmark data as compared to other middleware available in the market like webmethods ?
    Thanks,
    Kamleshwar

Amit, I am not an expert on Fusion so I can't help you there. What I wanted to share is that we have implemented the Cast Iron integration appliance and it is a great tool. We have created integrations between CRMOD and other databases, Salesforce.com, and other web based applications using web services, and it handles them all very well. I recommend that you consider Cast Iron when you are validating your options.

  • Why is my automation tools greyed out in photoshop 10?

II'm trying to batch my photos. However my automation tool is greyed. I have never used this before.

Well, you could try opening them all in the raw converter and using then noise reduction there, if that will do it. When you select multiple images in the strip on the left side of the window, changes made to one image apply to all selected photos, and you can open other formats than raw there, like tiff or jpg.
But otherwise, you are up against one of adobe's big brick walls between PSE and PS. They will not allow actions to run on more than one image at a time.
I've heard some people say that they've had success with Dr Brown's image processor, as another alternative, although I've not tried it.

    Hello All,
There are many wonderful Service Provider infrastructure hardening documents available from Cisco CCO and CiscoPress.
I have seen many over my life. Sample documents are:
Mannaging ACLs (7600, CRS IOS-XR, GSR) - automation tools, Document ID: 13608
Network Core Infrastructure Best Practices, Yusuf Bhaiji
Cisco Guide to Harden Cisco IOS XR Devices
Each service provider is recommended to enable and configure rACLs, CoPP, block unnecessary control protocols over the edge, Protect BGP peering with interface ACLs and many many more. Unfortunately there is no tool available from Cisco to configure and maintain all those features.
I would like to ask question to NetPro community. Have you seen any working products from Cisco or Cisco partners for ACL management. Lets keep Cisco Security Manager (CSM) aside. CSM is enterprise oriented tool and supporting routers up to 6500/7600.
I’m looking for this tool for few years already. Looks like other Service Providers are using home made developments. Google recently partially published own tool capirca to a public domain (do search on “ACL Management @ Google” or capirca). This is good start but I is missing ACL deployment module (it is not released by google).
    Please share you experience!
    Cheers!

  • How to access automation tools in photoshop elements 11?

I have photoshop elements 11 and the automation tools button is greyed out and cannot be selected. How can I access this function?

I don't understand. There is no "automation" feature. It's an empty spot where you can put something if it needs it (mostly legacy plugins). There are no innate features that magically turn on when you install something.

  • Use of Automation Tools in PSE7?

    I'm using PSE7.
In the Editor under File is an 'Automation Tools' item.
But that item is greyed out.
When I search the PSE7 Help file online there are no hits for Automation.
What is this item and how can I go about enabling it, finding out more about
    it and possibly using it?
    Thanks for any help!

    OK, I think I understand.
This is likely for 'legacy' add ons.
And I might well be more benefited in the long term by trying to find a solution
    within the PSE product itself.
I opened a discussion on Process Multiple Files to see if that might
get me where I would like to be.
    Thanks!

  • Automation tools and contact sheets

I just bought PSE 6 . In the last version I owned I could go to "automation tools " and make a contact sheet. In this version I can see "automation tools" but it won't light up... I can't access it. Why is it there if I can't use it? It is really frustrating! Is there another way to make a contact sheet? I tried the on-line help, but it only had a way I could make sheets to print on my own computer. I want to save sheets and print them at my lab.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

The plug ins are exactly the same as you probably already have in CS3. So you merely have to move them from the CS3 to the CS4 plug ins folder. John's link is another way of getting them.
On mac you never need to uninstall the previous version of Photoshop when upgrading to a new one. There are many other reasons to keep older versions installed. Most importantly due to aherm, what I assume to be 'staffing issues', and other problems - upgrades are NOT 100% RELIABLE these days. Sometimes, like in this case, changes made to Photoshop are not the most helpful. So its always good to keep old versions hanging around.
