Applescript help (wiping a shared drive)

I was wondering if I could get some help with an applescript I want to aquire or create.
Currently I have an xRaid as my file server. I would like to aquire or write a script and using Cron, unless there is a better way, to have it execute every Friday. This script is to completly wipe all of the data on the share drive.
thank you in advance for your help,
Robert

try this tip by *Chris CA*:
Point iTunes prefs -Advanced - iTunes media folder location to the shared drive.
Don't uncheck anything or delete anything from iTunes.
In iTunes, select all the files you want to copy to the NAS.
Then right click - Consolidate selected files.
This copies the selected items to the location on the NAS.
You can then delete these from the iTunes media folder (\Music\iTunes\iTunes media\Movies)
when done, point +Tines media folder location+ back to the original location.
if you want to play content of off the shared drive, be sure it is mounted before you launch iTunes.

  • Strange Shared Drive Showing Up

    Can someone help with a shared drive question/issue.
    I noticed a strange shared drive showing up tonight. It's name is "getinthelooppc."
    When I tried to connect gave me an error but I tried again and was able to connect with my computer password. It was just a shared drive of some kind. Then it discounted me and went away.
    What could it have been? Any ideas?

    are u using a wireless router to connect to the internet?if yes than try to put a password on your connection and you wont have this problem again....i had the same problem and did what i just said and worked perfectly fine

  • Help adding new Macs to the household, creating shared drive for iTunes,

    I have a few questions:
    My husband and I recently both got MacBook Pros. Our former set-up was a iMac which backs up to a 500 G Time Capsule. We have a large iTunes library and iPhoto library on the iMac. The iMac is going to turn in to the kids computer. I would like to do the following:
    1. transfer photos to my MBP (#1). Will the Time Machine backup for the iMac become significantly smaller, making room for the soon to be larger backup of the MBP #1? Little confused how that is going to work.
    2. have shared access to iTunes library? basically it would be nice for all 3 computers to have the complete iTunes library, but I would also like to backup all 3 computers using Time Machine and don't want to have triplicates of the library. I was trying to figure out if the way to go is to put the iTunes on a shared drive on the Time Capsule, but is there a way for the 3 computers to 'sync' to the shared drive when new music is added? Finally, if the iTunes is within a shared drive does that mean it won't be backed up?
    Much appreciation and thanks to anyone who can help make sense of this.

    Update: Downloaded free version of Syncopation, and am hopeful this is going to some what solve my iTunes issue.
    New question would be: when creating the Time Machine backups for MBP#1 and MBP #2 can I NOT back up the iTunes folders? That would save approx. 36G on each of these backups, right? 72G total of the Time Capsule space. And the assumption is that with Syncopation, as long as the iMac iTunes is backed up then, you have everything.

    I am having trouble dragging/dropping or otherwise copying files from my MacAir to a window for a shared drive.
    When I try to drag/drop, files get bounced out.
    Anyone know how to drag/drop in such a case, or otherwise copy files from MacAir to a shared drive (which I do  not believe is on a Mac, not sure if that matters).

  • Firewire shared drives spontaneously disconnects - Please help!

    Very odd problem that for whatever reason just started happening. I have 15 external FireWire 800 drives that half are shared on the network using AFP, the others are backup drives that run on Retrospect for the shared drives. This setup has run without any problems for a few years, then recently I'm having issues that all the drives (or a random few) will spontaneously disconnect, and will display an error on the server screen saying something to the effect that devices were ejected improperly, etc....
    I'll look on the server Finder and some of the drives are gone. The only way to get them back is to power them off, and turn them back on. Sometimes AFP won't reshare the drives that were kicked off, and I'll have to restart AFP to share the drives again.
    What is going on? I haven't done any updates, I'm running Server 10.5.8. Is it possible one of the drives may have a corrupted file on it that's causing some or all the drives to get kicked off? This is really frustrating as I'm having users knocked off the shared drives while working.
    Any fix would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Shut Down, unplug the AC cord from the Mac, and leave it unplugged for at least 15 minutes. Also power down the camcorder and unplug it from the G5.
    Then plug the AC cord back in, boot the G5. Then plug the camcorder in and power it up.
    Does System Profiler recognize the camcorder now?

  • Encrypted Time Machine Backups on a shared drive

    Hello community,
    the following situation:
    I have an iMac and a MacBook Air, both running Mountain Lion.
    Both use FileVault 2 encryption of the whole MacOS partition.
    The iMac is connected to an external USB hard drive, which I use as Time Machine volume. I've set up Time Machine to encrypt the backups on the external volume (it took abou 2 days until the whole drive was encrypted).
    So far no problems. No let's get to the tricky part.
    I want to the MacBook to use the same USB drive for its Time Machine backups. However I don't want to connect the volume directly via USB. Instead I have shared the USB volume on the iMac. And now I want to use this shared drive as my backup drive in the MacBook. (Hint: I want to use the same partition both for the iMac backups as well as for the MacBook backups.)
    I can mount and select the drive on the MacBook. However Time Machine on the MacBook asks me, if I want to envrypt the backups. Which of course I want to do. But the USB drive and therefore the entire mounted volume is already encrypted (from the iMac).
    Now I'm scared to opt in for encryption on the MacBook because I'm afraid the MacBook will again encypt the whole volume. Will that be the case? If so, what will happen on the iMac afterwards? Or will Time Machine recognize, that the volume is already encrypted (encryption passwords are the same of course)?
    Or is it not necessary to activate backup encryption on the MacBook since the drive is already encryted? Or will the MacBook somehow manage to write unencrypted backups on an encrypted volume?
    I would really appreciate any help to get the backups up and running. In short: I want both Macs to backup to the same drive. And I want both to encrypt the backups (with the same password).
    Regards

    That's usually not a good idea; for best results, they should be in separate partitions.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #4 for an explanation, and #22 for setup instructions.

    Backups made over a network are placed in a sparse bundle disk image, separate from the backups made directly.  The disk image is like a disk-within-a-disk; it has it's own partition map scheme and format.  So it will not be encrypted unless you tell TM to do so.
    In short: I want both Macs to backup to the same drive. And I want both to encrypt the backups (with the same password).
    Since the backups are separate, they must be encrypted separately.  You may use the same password for both if you want.

  • Link to file on Shared Drive

    In one of my report output, I need to include a link(url) to file on Shared Drive. The path is stored in database and it will be retrieved in query. The file can be either PDF/WORD/Excel for now.
    For ex. e:\\abc\share\test.xls should appear as url in report and when user clicks the url, it should open the test.xls file.
    Could some body help me how to do this?
    Thank You.

    Hi..
    I have the same scenario..
    One of the columns in the xml file has a path on the shared drive..
    like...
    S:\MANAGERS\xxxx.doc
    when the user clicks on the hyperlink the documnet doesn't open and is giving an error as
    cannot find file:///u01/oracle/product/10.1.3/dmidr3/j2ee/home/S:\MANAGERS\xxxx%20.doc make sure the path or internet address is correct.
    As you can see the report is adding the path ///u01/oracle/product/10.1.3/dmidr3/j2ee/home/ before the actual path that appears in the report.

  • Sync shared drive to sharePoint document library

    Is it possible to sync files in shared drive to SharePoint site?
    if i add any new files it should get updated in Document lib too .
    V Jean

    Hi,
    For your requirement, you can take consideration of mapping a SharePoint library with a local drive folder.
    Here is a link will provide more details:

    Sorry but your post isn't clear.
    Are you trying to share a drive which is connected directly to the Power Mac G4?
    I have the USB connecting the two but can't locate.
    When you say "the two" what are you referring to? What do you have connected via USB?

    Hi! Everyone ,I use Windows server data center edition as a domain server ,i share a drive like ( D:\Share File ) for domain users , he work there and i permitted Delete and new create any file and folders( on the Shared Drive , But When he accidentally
    deleted any File on Domain Shared Drive its don't to move in the Domain Recycle Bin, its deleted permanently.If its move To Domain Recycle Bin no meter ,But i have trouble to solve it , If Have Anyone Solution Reply Me
    Thanx
    Khalil Ansari

    Hi,
    This is by design the Recycle Bin only stores files deleted from local drives, not from a network drives. The workaround is to move a folder in C:\users\<user name> to the network drive.
    For more detailed information, please refer to the thread below:
    Files deleting over the Network /share drive is not going to the recycle bin it permanently delete the file but deleting from local drive is normaly going to recycle Bin !

  • Print pdf from shared drive

    Hello Experts,
    I have a requirement to print PDF document from SAP without user interaction.
    Here PDF document will be in another server say, shared drive. In simple way, if i execute the program (shared drive path of the document will be hardcoded in program) PDF document(which will be on shared drive) will get printed on local default printer.
    Please help me if anybody worked on similar requirement.
    Thank you very much

    In SAP Business by Designer, there is a reuse component called "Output management", which can enable end users to preview and print PDF document in a very convenient way. The printing is implemented in method:
    PDF binary data and printer code can be stored in ls_print_data.
    CALL METHOD cl_output_service=>document_output(
                    it_attachment_ids = lt_att_ids
                    is_archive_folder = ls_archive_folder
                    is_application_id = ls_application_id
                    ip_in_update_task = abap_false
                    ip_application_queue_id = lv_output_queue_id
                    ip_output_immediately = lv_output_imm
                    ip_output_at = lv_output_plan_time
                    ip_subject = lv_email_subject
                    is_recipients = ls_recipients
                    is_docdata = ls_docdata

  • Protecting shared drives from viruses?

    I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to make it where only certain programs can change the files of a shared network drive. We have software that is dependent on shared drives (no way to get around them) that have been hit multiple times by the crypto
    locker virus. All of our workstations have Vipre business virus protection and email protection and our email is hosted with Office 365, but the virus is still able to get on our network thru email. I've even seen it disable vipre. We also have software that
    will not work unless the user is an administrator on the workstation. We have setup some group policy rules that will not allow programs to run in the general places this virus likes to run, but I'm sure this will not stop it forever. If our accounting software
    drive gets hit it will be a major headache. So, what I would like is to be able to setup a rule on a workstation or in group policy that says that certain programs can make changes to the files on a shared network drive, but no other programs can. Does anyone
    know if this is possible?

    Hi,
    Permissions in Windows are based on users, not programs. We cannot setup a rule that only certain programs can make changes to the files on a shared network drive. In case, your drive infected by CryptoLocker, you need to backup your drive periodically. If
    your drive is encrypted, you could restore encrypted files.

  • Excel not letting user save to shared drive, only user using the files, yet it says someone else is using the file.

    I have seen this problem discussed before, but have never seen a clear cut solution.
    I have a user using Excel 2013. She can create and open files locally, but when she tries to move or save to a shared network drive, she gets the error "Someone else is working in (shared drive/filename) please try again later. She's the only one using
    the file most of the time.
    I have done a repair on the Office installation, but the user is still having the issue, and I need to remedy this. She has appropriate file/folder permissions on the network. Really stuck on this one.

    Hi,
    As we know, Office creates TMP files like "$.tmp file" when you open a document. Saving does not delete the files if we still have them open. And this issue occur with network drive not local disk, so
    it might be caused with the account permission of the network drive. If your user has no delete permission, the temp file might be not delete after closed the file. Please try to check the permission first.
    Then, if there are some mistaken operations when using the files in network drive, we could delete the temp file manually, and then the error would disappear. Please see the similar thread:

    It's recommended to download and install
    Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office
