AppleScript support for Bridge

We have quite an investment in very mature workflows built using Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop that are driven by AppleScript. As one of the advance testers for CS2 deployment in the company, I can already imagine several things that Bridge might bring to the party... If only it would play nice in our AppleScript environment.
Here's my vote for AppleScript support in Bridge!

I would love to see Applescript support within Bridge, as I need to integrate Bridge, Filemaker, BBEdit, and OmniPlan into a start to finish workflow system. Javascript just doesn't cut it as it relates to file handling/manipulation.

  • Applescript support for future CS

    Hi,
I was asked by a customer if Applescript is going to be still supported in the next CS versions (starting from CS5).
As Adobe is focusing more and more on Flex/AS3 for extensions, the question has made sense to me. So I ask here.
Do you have any infos on that topic ? Will Applescript be supported for ever, is it planned to be abandoned ?

You might want to check your firmware version. Go to: Settings>General>About. Look at the version field, it should be: 5.0.1(9A406). If it's 9A405 you need to update the firmware by connecting your phones to iTunes and updating it. This worked for me as I work on a ship and don't have a signal inside. I was having to do your little trick many times during the day when I would go outside to check for messages.

  • Dropping Applescript support for Pages

apple new suite is grate!, but as it does not have Applescript support for Pages I can no longer use my citations tools and that makes pages '13 useless for me. Are you going to fix that at any time soon?

    PeterBreis0807 wrote:
Hard to add AppleScript support for things that simply are not there.
True. However, if you look at the Applescript dictionary for Pages '09, most of the objects are still there in the UI in Pages 5 even though there is no way of scripting them. It seems there simply was no time to get them into the scripting dictionary. The citation tools of Guchi922 may not be supported, however.
If Apple implements all the objects they can in Pages 5' scripting dictionary, another question arises: Will there be much compatibility with scripts written for Pages '09, and there I do not dare being an optimist.

  • Applescript Support for Airplay?

Does anyone know if there is direct support for controlling Airplay speakers in iTunes via Applescript?
I know there are hacks to select the desired Airplay speaker using keypreses and manipulation of the speakers via the iTunes UI. However, this isn't a great way to do it, as the ordinal references to the UI elements can change with each iTunes update, and the context you are in (e.g. Album list view, or tracklist view) can affect the ordinal reference of the Airplay button too.
An Applescript one liner would be nice to control Airplay speakers if the command is being called from the osascript utility.
    Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Apart from the hacks you mention, I don't know a way to script iTunes' Airplay choice.
However, Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil is scriptable - so if you use it to grab the iTunes output you can direct the sound where you wish using AppleScript.
Not ideal, but it does work.

  • IPhoto 08  & AppleScript - support for set rating?

I am considering upgrading iPhot from 06 to 08..
    So I don't have 08.
Can anyone confirm whether or not the AppleScript support has been improved to allow for setting the Rating of photos via AppleScript?
    Thanks!

    Steve:
Still no rating support via AS. I cannot find anything new in the AS dictionary since the latest edition. Perhaps with Leopard???

  • AppleScript support for Mail Merge

how can I Create mail merge on new pages

Mail Merge is not built into any version of Pages v5, as it was in Pages ’09 v4.3. Instead, one must understand AppleScript to simulate Mail Merge. Here is an example article and code.

  • Applescript support?

The KB article about what is coming in the next 6 months lists "Improvements to AppleScript support" for Numbers 3.0.  AppleScript Editor tells me Numbers 3.0 is unscriptable.  So by "improvements to AppleScript support" does Apple mean "Bringing back Applescript support" or am I missing something? Is there any AppleScript support in Numbers 3.0 now?

    Hello
Note that the said article [1] states nothing about any improvements to AppleScript support in Pages v5 and yet the existing AppleScript support in Pages v5 is reportedly miserable one, which lacks the decent objects model and decent methods to manipulate them. It would suggest the degree of "improvements to AppleScript support" in Numbers v3.
Another thing to note is that iToy platform does not support AppleScript at all and thus implementing extensive scripting support in Numbers for Mac would contradict their obssessed scheme to have a common (divisor) software for both platforms. It would suggest the AppleScript support in Numbers v3 would never be better than in Numbers v2 at the most which itself is very limited to say the least.
After all, it seems quite clear to me that Apple has effectively killed iWork for Mac by degenerating it into iToy version. From my experience I no longer see any future in this programme suite as productivity work horse.

  • Support for Categorisation of Tasks on Playbook with BB Bridge - please?

The BlackBerry and Windows Phone are "task-savvy" as shipped. The iPhone and most Droids are not - you have to get a 3rd party task manager app for them. So the BB should have a natural appeal to those who want built-in task manager with minimal fuss and RnD. Add to this that the BB task manager plays nicely with its counterparts in Outlook/Exchange and Notes. This provides a natural appeal for those who want a built-in task manager that syncs readily with their corporate stuff.
Many personal organising systems rely on the use of categories for tasks. GTD is one of them, and very popular it is too, both with consumer users and corporates of all sizes. BB provides nice support for task categorisation, and so BB is a nice workshorse for corporate types who want to do GTD or something else that needs task categorisation. I guess RIM wants these people to be wanting PlayBooks too, no?
Why, then, oh why, oh why, does the Playbook, when bridged to a BB, have nothing to do with the categorisation of tasks? You can't group or filter existing tasks by category and when entering a new task, you can't give that task a category. When looking at an existing task, you can't see which category(s) it belongs to.
Standing in front of the oppostion's goal, ball at feet, with their goalie standing by the corner flag and .... whoops .. . over the bar it went.
    Please:
    1. Expose the category field on the "new task" and "existing task" forms, with the BB's master category list as a pick list behind it.
    2. Give us a little drop-down on the Task folder so that we can pick a category to filter on. (I'm thinking of one like the one top left in Bridge email where you can pick which folder's contents you want to view)
There was a time when BB handsets had task folders that didn't support categories at all. That was many years ago. The requirement for task categorisation has not gone away, and is not confined to the handsets.
    And breathe....

Given the dearth of replies to your post, you may have come to to conclusion that you're alone in your thinking but you're not, well at least not completely.

  • Why was Extension Manager support dropped for Bridge?

Title says it all. Adobe Extension Manager supported Bridge in CS4, CS5 and CS5.5 and now it doesn't. From what I understand, the simple addition of the "configuration" folder and the files it contains from a CS5.5 installation suddenly makes it work, so my question is: why was this dropped for CS6? Is there more to it?
    ...Mike

    Hi David,
what makes you say that the support for that got dropped ?
I have a 1130 on my desk running 12.4.25 and it definitely can be configured for universal WGB ...
This said, it's a bet strange to configure a ceiling-mountable AP for uWGB but you probably have your reasons :-)

  • Bridge support for MXF video files?

I use the Canon XF305 and have been using Bridge with other cameras (like the 7D) to log metadata and preview files before importing into Pr 5.5. However, I find that I can't view the MXF format files in the Mac version (I've not tried the Windows version). Is MXF not supported by Bridge? If not, it should be.
The ability to use Bridge to add metadata to MXF files would be a real boon. I typically shoot three camera shoots and need to go back and log the data.

There is a utility for logging metadata from Canon that comes with the camera, so I'm going to see if there is any transfer of their metadata to what Bridge uses.
In doing more reading, and watching more Adobe videos, it appears that Adobe wants video producers to use On Location, both before, during and after shooting to log metadata. It's a bit confusing why some of the trainers are recommending Bridge, which doesn't support all the various codecs, while others are recommending OL.  But it appears that OL will do what I am after.
It would be good to see an Adobe document that highlights the pros and cons of using both and where they fit in the Adobe landscape.
I'm off for a morning of video and testing of OL.
More info from Adobe staff from Bridge would be useful (both for me and future newbies).

  • H8-1260t / IPISB-CH2 (Chicago) - Can HP add support for Ivy Bridge processors?

The latest UEFI BIOS upgrade for this Sandy Bridge H67-based motherboard is 7.12, dated 10/12/2011. The chipset has the capability to run Ivy Bridge CPUs (released Q4 2011) with a BIOS update to the microcode table (add the CPUID table entries for the 306xx CPUs to the 209xx Sandy Bridge CPUs already in the table, that's all!). I have checked the BIOS using AMI's MMtool, and BIOS ver 7.12 only supports Sandy Bridge CPUs. Can customers using the IPISB-CH2 motherboard, like me, get a BIOS update to support IvyBridge CPUs? -imsai8080 ref:http://www.asrock.com/news/events/2012ivy/ Please note that ASRock is the end-user sales department of Pegatron, which made the IPISB-CH2 motherboard for HP.H67DE3 looks very like the "Chicago" board. further ref:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1155http://www.techpowerup.com/153756/ivy-bridge-quad-core-to-have-77w-tdp-intel-plans-for-lga1155-ivy-bridge-entry.html

I have examined the microcode and there is no support for it, though there is pleanty of room to add it. The BIOS itself is dated 10/12/2011. Simply download the update, change the file extension to .zip, look in the zip, and you'll see the actual mod date for CHG_712_Signed.rom file is 10/12/2011. All they did was update the sp56123.rtf file on 2/14/2012, and later moved it the newer Support format in 4/21/2013 (no files were changed internally). I don't know why they improperly dated it for 4/13. Hope that answers your question, although not the answer either of us wanted.Just to confirm, that's what I'm currently running on a h8-1260t, and 10/12/2011 is the date embedded in the BIOS as well.Big_Dave:Both of us understand that Pegatron is not a retail supplier, and requests for BIOS updates come from the customer, HP. The Ivy Bridge processors were released April 2012, 4 months after the intro of the Chicago board, and ASRock, the *retail* side of Pegatron, announced that all 2nd gen Sandy Bridge mobos (including the H67 motherboards) would have Ivy Bridge support added. IMHO, HP should have requested a BIOS upgrade for their 2nd gen Sandy Bridge Pegatron-based HP motherboards. Obviously, that didn't happen, since their only update is actually dated 10/2011 (see above). It doesn't seem unreasonable to me for HP to drop an request to Pegatron, a *current* motherboard supplier for HP, to cut an upgrade to support the HP motherboards derived fom the retail motherboards Pegatron already have upgraded circa 3 months after the release of the HP (Pegatron) "Chicago" motherboard, which looks AMAZINGLY like the ASRock (Pegatron retail) H67DE3 with the dual graphics support removed (standard for HP), SATA 4 & 5 moved to board edge, and HP proprietary frontpanel connector added in the original place for the H67DE3 SATA 4 & 5 <grin>. Probably a couple minutes with the right BIOS tools and updated microcode from Intel (which I also have!), to support all Chicago-based systems. I'm hoping that maybe a HP Support rep can chime in on this, or someone can tell me where to find tools to recompile to add the SAFUWIN-compatible checksums to a modded BIOS? -Imsai8080 P.S. If it wasn't for the code checksums and the nonstandard SAFUWIN flash programmer, I would already have added the Ivy Bridge microcode myself. Gave it a try, no go so far, but I might keep trying.

Intel H67 chipset supports Ivy Bridge but requires a BIOS update.
Does HP plan to release a bios update?
Is there anything we can do to get them to offer an update?
I really wish HP would support it.
I've love this machine even more with a new Ivy Bridge CPU and HD 4000 graphics.
Has anyone tried installing a processor to see what happens?

    Hi,
Some third parties have released bios updates to support the Ivy Bridge product. A lot of regession testing needs to be done on the older motherboards.  I would suspect that HP will release new models of the TouchSmart with Ivy Bridge support.

  • Add support for queuing to the applescript dictionary

In my office, we use Hubot, a node server and some applescript to control an instance of Spotify running on a communal Mac Mini. While this is really awesome, it would be even cooler if the applescript library supported queueing songs :)

I have also previously requested enhancements to the applescript interface.
Queueing and playlist support would be amazing.
