AppleScript to add "1-" before Address Book phone numbers

I transferred all my Contacts from another program into OS X's Address Book, all phone numbers begin with the area code. I'd like to add "1-" before every area code. Is there an AppleScript to do this?

It's certainly possible to do via AppleScript, but you should probably ask your question in the AppleScript Forum if that's the path you want. You'll have a higher success rate there.

  • Apple Mail: How do I add contacts to address book?

In the Apple Mail program, there is an option to add sender to address book. But when I do that, it just adds the sender to my address book, oftentimes without a name associated to the contact. So that contact could easily get lost.
I'd like to be able to add a sender from Apple Mail, then, at a later point, go to the address book and review who I've added, and edit their information.
Is there a way to add the sender to the address book, and have that contact added to a default folder within address book. That way I could later go back and review a bunch of contacts I've added at the same time. Thanks.

Adding an address to Address Book opens Address Book so that you can edit the card before saving it.  Is that not happening for you, or is that happening but you want to ignore it until you're ready to go add other information?
If the latter, you could always create a smart group in Address Book with the criteria "Name" "is not set".  Then just go in now and then and add names to everything in that group.  Of course, the problem with this technique is you may have to go back and find that address in Mail and refresh your memory as to who it belongs to.  It would probably be quicker, overall, to just add the name at the time you're adding the contact.

  • Add Sender to Address Book Category?

Does anyone know if you can set up a "rule" or something of that nature to the Add Sender to Address Book feature? I would like all of my contacts from my .me email to be saved in a preset category in my Address Book.

Take a look at Andreas Amann's Mailscripts. His add to address book script instructions:
"Select all messages you want to use for creating the mailing list (for creating a mailing list, you would choose all messages in a mailbox which contains all messages on a certain topic).
Run the script and you get a list with all addresses contained in the selected messages - mark all the addresses you want to add to the Address Book using the checkboxes.
From the popup menu, choose which group you want to update with the selected addresses or select "Create new Group..." and enter the name for the new group to be created.
The script checks whether an address is already present before adding it to the Address Book in order to avoid duplicate entries. If additional information is available for an entry already present in the Address Book (e.g., full name information for an entry which had prior been email-only), the entry will be updated."

  • Add a second address book

Does anyone know of an address book app that can be added to my Curve that won't confuse the syncing of the phone?  My current contact list is synced with my office address book (via sync NOT server, which seems to be a problem) and I want to be able to add my personal address book to sync with my home computer. Suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Undo 'add sender to address book' ?

    Hi
I just accidentally added a whole load of people to my Address Book unintentionally
From Mail, I had a whole bunch of emails selected (100+) and chose 'Add sender to Address Book' by mistake (I intended just to add one of them).
So my question is this. How can I identify those contacts in my Address Book? 'Undo' was not available in Mail, and they don't appear to register in Address Book as 'last import'.
Is there a way of searching by date added?
    TIA
    James

There's no way to display contacts by date added. You could go to View > Last Import and this should display a new group called Last Import with details. not sure if 'Add to senders' are classed as an import tho.
If this doesn't work go to File > New Smart Group. In the pop up box for adding smart rules set the rule to Card has changed in 3 days and Ok this. You will now have a new group containing all the contacts that have been changed in the last 3 days which should include all the ones you are after. Just check there aren't any you need to keep before making any deletions.

  • Add sender to address book no longer working

"Add sender to address book" no longer works. It flashes the menu bar as if it is working, however, when I go to the Address book, the new person is not there. This has been going on for a number of weeks.
    Any ideas?

    Keith,
Since you have confirmed that the maintenance scripts have been used, then you may benefit from the troubleshooting procedures listed in Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption.
I would also suspect .plist corruption with com.apple.mail.plist and/or com.apple.AddressBook.plist.

  • TS3276 I cannot add contacts to the address book by clicking "add sender to address book."

In Apple Mail, OS 10.7.3, when I click on add sender to address book, nothing gets added. The address book doesn't change. When I try adding addresses via previous recipients, the button is active, but when I click, nothing is added to the address book. Any ideas for me?

  • AppleScript and importing images into Address Book

    Hi all:
I have a simple AppleScript that will create an Address Book entry. I want to import the picture as well, given a filename, but nothing I've tried will work. I get stuck on the fact that AB expects to be fed a TIFF picture, yet I can't figure out how to extract the actual picture data from the file.
My AppleScripting is terribly rusty, so any help would be welcome - no matter how detailed.
    elderly G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Figured it out -I ended up putting the picture file directly into ~/Library/Application Support/AddrressBook/Images and naming it with the record ID provided by Address Book.

want to know how to add pictures to address book that DO NOT appear as fullscreen images on the iPhone but remain as icons with the iPhone background visible (see attached image). for some reason, all new contacts added through Mountain Lion appear as fullscreen caller ID images.

This would be better addressed in the iPhone forum, I would post there as well.

  • Mail crashing when I try to add name to address book

    Hi,
as of today, I'm no longer able to add names to my address book by clicking on the person's name in my email.
in the "from" field, I could click on that, and have a list of choices to add to my address book.
Now, when I click on that, it crashes my mail.
what can I do to fix this so it's working again?
    Thanks,
    Dave

If you can't get the exported .csv file to work you might consider using Migration Assistant: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2518, particular if you need to move more than just your contacts.  There is some granularity in the options on what to transfer but I'm not sure if you can choose to just your migrate contacts.

Hello ac9000 and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
If you were to create a contact in your BlackBerry, does it sync to your Mac Address Boook?
In your BlackBerry Address Book if you go to Menu>Options, under Contact lists do you have an email account listed? If so, if you click into it, does this list sync wirelessley to this email account?
As for your Calendar, if you open your iCal do you have any calendars listed?
If you create a new Calendar and make a test entry, does this new Calendar sync to your device? If you create a Calendar appointment on your BlackBerry, does it sync to your iCal?

  • International Addresses and Phone Numbers

How do people typically deal with International Addresses and Phone Numbers? Do you use special attributes for these?

I know how to create attributes, the issue is how to create the right set of attributes that can be used for all given international telephone and addresses?
I would think there would be some sort of predefined standard for doing this but if you have to create your own custom attributes just to do this, then that's not really a great thing.
Oracle or the ldap standards people whomever they are should include all the object classes and attributes for International Telephone numbers and addresses so all you need to do is add the objectclass to your users and use them!
Sorry it just doesn't make sense to have everyone create these...
