Applescript to add open images in Preview into iPhoto?

I've got an eyefi card in my digital camera that sends my pics directly to a folder on my laptop in which a folder action runs that automatically opens the image in preview. What I'd like to do next is to close the images I don't want, and then run an applescript that will take the remaining open images in Preview and import them into iPhoto.
I guess if I were to do it manually, I would drag the proxy icon of each window into iPhoto? But that would create several separate events in iPhoto since it would import them one at a time. It would be ideal if there was a way for Applescript to locate the open images in finder, and then import all of those images into iPhoto all at once. Is this possible? If so, any tips on how to get started with that? I'm a newb to Applescript, so be gentle.

It sounds like you've been doing the search in the menubar Spotlight field. If so, here are two things to try:
One, when you have located the image you think you want to open, hit Command-Return, which will open (in a new Finder window) the folder in which the image file is located, even if it is inside your iPhoto library. The default application for opening the image then should be Preview (it is for me).
Two, select "Show All" at the top of the results, which opens a Finder search window. An image file in the resulting list, even if it is inside the iPhoto package, will open by default in Preview (That's what it does for me.)
Hope this helps.

How do I get pics from Preview into iphoto?

While you are viewing a photo in Preview, and want to import it into iPhoto, select the document icon in the toolbar of the preview window and drag this icon onto the iPhoto icon in the Dock or in the applications folder.
    For example:

  • Spotlight doesn't open images in preview but in iphoto

After I upgraded to Snow Leopard, whenever I search for a photo file in spotlight that it is inside the iphoto library, and I select it from the spotlight menu search results, it will open iphoto instead of preview. How can I make spotlight to open always images on Preview??
    Thanks

  • Importing images from ipod into iPhoto

I installed the iPhoto 9.2 update as part of the OSX10.7.2 and am now when I try import my pictures that are stored on my iPod Touch only my Mac shows up. The iPod used to show so I could import the images stored on it, but now that option doesn't exist, it's just the Mac.
Am I doing something wrong here? Has the process changed? Do I have to activate Photostream just to import the pics locally?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same problem importing pics into iphoto 9.2 from my iphone.  Photostream isn't working in the country I'm in (China) but when I connect the phone manually, it doesn't show up in iphoto...
Also tried the image capture program (which maybe you could try molotovmouse...) but that also doesn't recognise the iphone...and yes it is unlocked...
apple can't have removed the capability to import photos manually with a cable...can they?? especially as photo stream has not worked for me at all, and it is extremely limited anyway...

  • Downloading images from camera into iphoto and getting two of everything

Is there a reason I'd be getting two copies of each photo I download from my camera into Iphoto? And is there a way of making it stop doing that?
They're both in the library, right next to each other.
    Thanks.

    HI brvideo,
What is the make of your camera?
    Does your camera do RAW?
Does your camera have a setting that will also do a jpeg conversion of the RAW image?
If so, check the settings for your camera and make sure it is set not to do that.
Does your camera have a setting where it does an HTML file of your images. This will produce a smaller jpeg thumb. If you have it on that setting, change it.

  • Opening images in preview

In Windows computers when you double click an image to open it, you can look through all the images that are in the folder with the image viewer. However with Preview on Macs when I open an image it only shows that one.The only way for me to click on an image and be able to cycle through all of them in preview is if I highlight all images by pressing (command + A) and that way I can view them together in one preview window. Now this would be alright, excep for the fact that command + A and clicking will open all files I will often open documents and things that I don't want open.
So basically what I want to know is:
Can preview be set so when you double click one image you can view all image in the folder with the image viewe
Change the default image viewer if neccessary
Is what I am asking possible on Macs?

Well. Interesting results to report. In short, it doesn't work as I need it to, but shows promise.
    1) If I drop an image file on the target folder, it usually opens in Preview. If I drop another, Preview quickly closes, re-opens, and shows the new image. But in a test, one image in six consistently would not appear in Preview...right away. As much as 4-6 minutes later, the image might suddenly appear, along with others that failed to appear right away. Note: these images are jpegs of 200+ to 700kb in size.
    2) Something in the script is causing Preview to close every few minutes, then re-open, showing the same group of images. This happens without an image having just been added to the target folder.
    3) Both (1) and (2) suggest that the mechanism that loads these images into Preview is not actually responding to the added file, but only checks every so often to see if anything new has shown up.
    4) When I test the process using a digital camera and the EyeFi card, the results are worse: although the image file appears in the target folder within 3-5 seconds of being shot, it never opens in Preview right away, which makes the process unusable. In order to serve my purposes, it needs to appear in Preview within a couple of seconds of hitting the target folder. The image will not appear for at least 4 to 8 minutes of being added to the target folder.
This seems to be a harder goal to achieve than I had expected. Perhaps Preview is a poor application to use, but iPhoto was even less workable, last time I looked.
My instinct is that the script Pierre L. provided is awfully close to successful, but something is not allowing it to do what I need. Are there any users of EyeFi cards out there who can comment?

  • What is the best way to add multiple images with links into an email signature?

I created an email signature with five linked images by:
    * creating new message
    • attached the image
    • adding link to the image
    • copied new email signature
    • under Preferences/Signature added the new signature
It all works, but some of the emails bounced back. When we removed the images, the email went through.
I  tried putting all the images into Photoshop and making it all one image, used the slice tool to create a link for each image and brought that single image into the signature, but that didn't work as separate links.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Bob.
So what I should have done on my PC for all my files is gone to the File menu and used the Package command which would have converted it into a file with the images in it so they wouldn't need to be relinked.
From now on I will only be working on Mac (I gave away my PC) but I'm sure I could use a friend's pc (or at a later point install Windows on my Mac). But to use the Package command on PC I need to actually have the images in the correct folder on the PC right?

  • Safari can not upload images newly imported into iPhoto. I have to shutdown iphoto and safari before the latest import of images into iPhoto is found my safari.

When I want to upload images to facebook on safari - from a NEWLY imported album in iPhoto - Safari can not find the new album in iPhoto. Obviously the most commonly uploaded images are the recent ones. I am uploading them to a facebook page, not my own account - which is not possible from iphoto. So I have to shutdown safari and iphoto and then do the upload again. This has happened me three times now - and - well - its one of those annoying things that windows 95 could have done and super safari can't .... could apple sort this out sometime. Please.

You'll not get a rebuttal from me. I still run into Wizard of Oz moments.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • How do you add an image into an expansion pack display?

I have the expansion pack and am having a difficult time figuring out how to and an imageinto some of the expansion pack displays, in particular the one tat looks like a TV that rotates from background to center and then back. I would like to add an image or text into the display and have it rotate with the TV .Suggestions???

If you look at how the TV Set objects work, you will see that the action takes place after the TV comes "on". This happens when the TV is not moving.
Taking a still image from a rendered movie at this position into a graphics application such as photoshop will enable you to make a mask for the video that you wish to superimpose on the screen. With some judicious use of transparency it should be relatively simple to make it look as though the image is embedded, rather than stuck on.
If you must have an image displayed while the TV is rotating in, then you need an application that can apply tracking data, such as Motion.

You might have a look at [this article|http://smithsrus.com/setting-an-address-book-picture-with-applescript> and try this:
*set pict_file to choose file of type {"public.tiff"} with prompt "Choose a TIFF file"*
    *open for access pict_file*
*set pict_data to read pict_file as "TIFF"*
    *close access pict_file*
    *tell application "Address Book"*
*set the_people to every person in group "Pilots"*
    *repeat with this_person in the_people*
*set image of this_person to pict_data*
    *end repeat*
    *end tell*

  • Importing images into Iphoto 06

I thought I would try a small selection of images to import into iphoto 06 and made sure in the advanced preferences that I had the "copy files to iphoto library folder" unchecked so I would not get two copies of each photo.
Afer the short import was finished of the 41 images in .jpg and .crw from a folder that is 158Mb in size, I found that the new "modified" folder in iphoto 06 contained data that amounted to 78Mb even though I had not even looked at these photos in iphoto.
Now don't get me wrong I DO believe iphoto 06 is a great product for certain people but I cannot import my 50Gb+ of images on my external hard drive to iphoto as if it then produces 50% as modified files I will run out of hard drive space on my powerbook. I will have to continue using shoebox from kavasoft for now but would have dearly loved more support from Apple for what I do't believe to be huge image libraries [under 10,000 images].
If anyone has any suggestions about what I can do to try and use iphoto 06 then please let me know.

    millionblade:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You got me checking into my primary iPhoto Library which I created from the photos on my second HD. They were in years going back to 1999. Therefore there should be no modified versions except those most recent. I had the same situation you did.
Try doing a Revert to Original on the library, excluding those that you don't want reverted and and see if it'll work. I ran it many times and finally got it down to only 3 rolls that wouldn't revert. But if you open the Modified folder and watch it the rolls then come back after a while.
I moved the Modified folder out of the library and launched iPhoto. After a bit many of them came back. In a last revert the entire Modified folder disappeared so I quickly shut iPhoto down. I then launched it to rebuild and it is in the process now. With 13,000+ it's reporting 2 hrs completion time. Will report on the results when I get them. But this does seem to be a problem.
My originals are on a second internal HD. I don't think that should be any different than being on the same HD. You might experiment with some rolls that are in the Modified folder and see what you get. More later.

Does this happen if you try to Import to Library within iPhoto, or is it when you connect your camera (and which is set to automatically use iPhoto) that this error message occurs?
If you open Image Capture > Preferences is iPhoto selected as the choice when a camera is connected?

  • Preview to iPhoto?

I just scanned a bunch of photos into my computer.
I thought that they would automatically be put into iPhoto; instead, they ended up in Preview.
How can I transfer these photos from Preview into iPhoto?
(P.S. I have never understood the purpose of Preview anyway. Anybody able to enlighten me? Thanks.)

Thanks, Trevor. But it didn't work. I couldn't find the photos I wanted to move. I clicked on "Preview" in the left-hand column, but it did not present the photos there. How can I do that?
Actually, I just want to burn these photos on a CD. Is there an easier way to do that? Do I need to go through iPhoto to do that? And any idea why my originally scanned photos didn't end up in iPhoto? I have scanned in photos before and they always ended up in iPhoto. Why didn't they this time? (Is it possible they ended up somewhere else in addition to Preview and I just haven't found them yet?)
    Thanks again.
