AppleScript to change artboard reference point? CS5

Hi,
I'm very new to scripting - just stumbled across it as I was researching tools to tackle an extremely repetitive project. One of the functions I should very much like to automate is changing the artboard reference point to top-left and then set the x and y values to 0. Is this possible? I couldn't seem to get it to record or insert into an action.
Thank you so much in advance!

@Mark – and here an overview of all available options:
AnchorPoint.BOTTOM_CENTER_ANCHOR
The center point on the bottom of the bounding box.
AnchorPoint.BOTTOM_LEFT_ANCHOR
The bottom left corner.
AnchorPoint.BOTTOM_RIGHT_ANCHOR
The bottom right corner.
AnchorPoint.CENTER_ANCHOR
The center point in the bounding box.
AnchorPoint.LEFT_CENTER_ANCHOR
The center point on the left side of the bounding box.
AnchorPoint.RIGHT_CENTER_ANCHOR
The center point on the right side of the bounding box.
AnchorPoint.TOP_CENTER_ANCHOR
The center point on the top of the bounding box.
AnchorPoint.TOP_LEFT_ANCHOR
The top left corner.
AnchorPoint.TOP_RIGHT_ANCHOR
The top right corner.

  • Can I create a keyboard shortcut to change the reference point? (Mac CS6)

    I'm forever changing the reference point during a job and the tiny squares are a nightmare (my eyes aren't what they used to be), a shortcut to change it from the centre to top left would be great.
    Cheers

    Unable to change reference point location while using the Transform Functions in Photoshop Elements 6.0.

    Which operating system are you using?
    In photoshop elements 6, as far as i know, you can only change the Reference Point Location for transforms using the small grid in the left hand corner of the tool options bar with Transform enabled.

  • Can I keep the reference point in indesign from changing?

    Not sure I'm in the right forum here, but here goes--I'm working in InDesign5. I have to place 100's of scans into boxes in a single layout, and often have to adjust size by percentage (using shift-command-< or >) after they're in the box. My issue is with the reference point changing with each scan. I'd like to set it to one spot and not have to reset every time I place a new scan, which obviously becomes tedious and time consuming. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

    Actually, these are my own documents, originally built in Quark (several years ago) and updated on a basically yearly basis.They're not exactly templates, but working documents.
    Have you ever exported this file to INX/IDML and re-opened? That's a really normal corruption-clearing first step when handling InDesign docs, and you have two different features of your doc (started life as a Quark doc and converted into InDesign, and then updated from one version of ID to the next) that can sometimes induce corruption. One instance where I always export INX/IDML is when I'm moving a file from an older version of ID to a newer one, as when you moved from CS4 to CS5.
    But, honestly, I can't tell whether your document is showing signs of minor corruption, or if your install of InDesign is Functioning As Designed. Does it remember which corner is active from copy to copy? Is it getting the active corner from whatever element was on top before you grouped? Is copying and pasting somehow messing it up; would it happen if you used File -> Place? Is it remembering from the source document? As you can imagine, I'm sure, there are plently of permutations to test.
    Lastly, note that setting the reference point before you open is only going to affect new documents that you start fresh - your frequently-updated ex-Quark docs will not be affected when you choose a new default corner with no docs open. It would be whatever corner was active when you first converted your doc from Quark to ID, however many years ago that was.
    If you want to continue troubleshooting, I'd suggest posting a new thread in the InDesign forum (which isn't broken anymore). If you supply a link to this thread, or summarize what we've already discussed, you probably won't have a bunch of people telling you to export IDML and re-open.

  • Custom Reference Point in CS5

    I just upgraded from CS3, in which I used to be able to click anywhere on an object with the scale or rotate tools in order to set a custom reference point. Now I can’t do that (unless I hold the option key, which brings up the settings box—which I don’t want). Having to drag the reference point is a hassle. What happened to the functionality of simply clicking to set a new reference point?
    One CS5 help article says, "Or, with one of these tools [scale, rotate, shear] selected, click anywhere on the object or page. The reference point moves to that location.” That’s exactly the behavior I was expecting, but I can’t get it to work at all.
    Any help much appreciated!

    Unfortunately, you've described exactly exactly waht the new options are, and it's not pretty. Find something new that you do like, and then call it even. You'll feel better.

  • How do I keep the Reference Point setting at top, left

    The nine-by-nine grid in the top left corner (where the vertical and horizontal rulers meet) won't stay selected as the top left setting depending on what I select in my document. Sometimes it's the top left, sometimes it's the bottom right and sometimes it's the top middle. How can I set it so that every box I select in a document will give me the top left reference point (X-Y coordinate)?
    I'm proofing a document to make sure it's set-up correctly and all the page-heading colored boxes are  starting at the same X-Y coordinate, have the same width and the next box down on the page starts at the proper location. None of these boxes were created on a master page so I have to check each one. (And even if they were, they've all been released from the master to change their colors and place images.) In other words, on one page there is a colored box across the top that is 10p6 high, so the next box down (vertically) needs to start at the X-Y coordinate of 0, 10p6. But when I click on it the reference point is not always at the top left. So I click on the box, then click on the top left reference point, check the X-Y location and height of the box, then click on the next box down the page and click on the top left reference point and compare the X-Y location to the previous box's height.
    I have selected the top left reference point with no documents open to set that as my default preference but I didn't create this document.

    @Peter / @FergyMac – in case of rotated objects the reference point will change from object to object.

  • Doing absolute move using center reference point

    I want to place a large number of images of varying aspect ratio using the center reference point at the same point in each page.  I have played with move and it appears to always use the top left point.  My interpretation of the documentation suggests that I would get the same results with transform.
    I realize that I could do the calculations to do the move but am hoping I am missing something and there is a much simpler way to do it.
    Thanks in advance

    csm_phil: Your English is quite confusing. Please remember to end sentences with periods. I assume you meant to say:
    I don't know why you wrote  "Bad for performance, bad for idempotency, and bad philosophically" when this method is working.  If its working, what is the problem? Can you please explain.
    (I'm still not sure what you meant by "i want to change the your mehtods.")
    Because something is working does not mean it is right.
    Because something is working does not mean it is good.
    It may cause problems in the future. Or it may have side effects.
    I wrote four things:
    Using the selection is a bad idea. This is well-accepted by experienced scripters. Scripts should avoid using the selection wherever possible. But why? I tried to explain in brief:
    Bad for performance: Interacting with the selection is slower. InDesign has to deal with updating the display and the UI when the selection is involved, when it would not otherwise have to do so. Anytime you interact with the selection your script will be slower. That slowness may not matter most of the time, such as when you are donly doing something once.
    Bad for idempotency: When you change the selection, it becomes difficult to repeat your work, and you do not leave the state of the program as you found it. If something else is depending on the selection, then you will screw that up. It is like changing a global variable. The best solution is not to change it, but to use a local variable instead. As a workaround, you can save the old value of the selection, perform your work, and then restore the selection. But that is imperfect. What if your code is running in an event handler? What if two pieces of code that use the selection are running in parallel? What if there are thread concurrency issue? Probably not the case in CS5.5, but what about CS7?
    Bad philosophically: This one is harder to explain. I think it really boils down to, if your script is not affecting the user interface, it should not alter portions of the user interface. The selection should be considered out-of-bounds for most scripts. This is really a restatement of the previous claims, especially "bad idea," so maybe it does not count on its own. But I repeat it because it is worth repeating.
    If you're really careful, using the selection can work. But much of the time it causes problems, either in the present or in the future. It is good to avoid problems where feasible.
    I hope this post helps you to understand what I meant.

  • Change of Reference Object

    Hi All,
    We have some infoobjects (A) created with referencing objects (B). In our production system we noticed that the referncing object is not correct. We have been loading the data since a year. This issue was noticed recently.
    We need to modify all the objects (A) to point to a new infoobject (C) instead of B. BW do not allow changing the reference objects unless we delete the data in all connected data targets. We are talking about at least 15 data targets.
    To modify the refernce from A to C, we have to delete and re-load the data in production system. We want to keep this as the last option and explore the alternatives. We are not ready for deleting and reloading the data since it calls for lot of man hours and planning. Ours is a 24x7 system.
    We are considering many alternative approaches and work around solutions. I will be interested to know, if anybody else also faced this situation and if so, how did they fix the issue. I appreciate any ideas in fixing this issue.
    Thanks

  • Controlling 3D Perspective Reference Point

    When i am in 3d, It seems that the rotation is at the corner of the room rather than in the center. This is kind of annoying when you creating 3d animations.
    With 3d grid view activated, the grid shows a blue and red line (x and z i am guessing).
    How do i get the perspective view to reference the center of the space i am working in rather than a corner?

    The camera does not rotate around a "corner" unless you offset the camera's anchor point. Where the rotation point is located is based on what the camera type is and what is/is not selected. For example, if you have an object selected in the canvas and you use the orbit control, your camera will use the Anchor point for the selected object as the center of rotation. If you have multiple objects selected it will use the center of the selection as the rotation center.
    If you don't have any objects selected, or you have the camera selected, when you use the orbit tool the camera will rotate around it's own axis. This point will be determined by the camera type. If you're using a Framing camera, it will be offset on Z from the Camera. If you're using a Viewport camera, it's at the center of the camera. As I mentioned, you can change the anchor point location for the camera if you need an offset.
    Now if I'm understanding your question correctly, you're in perspective view and want to move the perspective view the world orgin (intersection of the XZ on the grid?) The easiest way to do that is to select a group that is at the orgin (0,0,0). Select the group then only use the orbit or dolly tools and the scene orgin should stay at center. You can do the same thing when in a camera view.

  • How do I link a reference point in one PDF to a specific page in a different PDF? I want it to open link in a new window AT the specific page.

    I have a paper with multiple reference points that I need to link to 3 other pdfs. Each time I create a link in the master PDF, I need to open a file in a new window and point to a specific page in the other pdf. I cannot get it to work.

    Hmmmm, just tried that and used the magnify glass to capture the specific page in the second pdf, but when I tried the link, it doesn't open a new window, it sits within the original pdf and I can't go back to the page I need to. What am I missing/

  • Position of items in a region changes when changing region display point

    Hi all,
    I encounter a strange behaviour of items when changing the display point of a reports region from default (Page Template Body (3)) to anything else.
    If set to Body (3), my items are correctly displayed above the report, but else they are displayed below.
    Changing the sequence numbers does not affect this.
    To clarify what I mean I created a sample application:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=16478:1
    Is there any possiblity to influence whether items in a reports region are displayed below or above the report table? - I did not find anything...
    TIA,
    Felix

    If you read the description of those other regions you'll clearly see "items below region content" rather than "items above region content", like the page template body region #3.
    This is one limitation of the ApEx region templates that some would like to see improved - meaning, allowing for more flexibility.

  • Set reference point for multiple objects in the middle of the document

    Hello Community,
    I want to mirror a layout.
    So I:
    1. Select all the objekts
    2. Set the reference point to the middle
    3. Mirror the objects
    BUT
    The reference point is the middle of all the OBJECTS. That leads to several objects crossing the border of my document because the layout isn't spread out evenly.
    I want to middle of the DOCUMENT to be the reference point. How can I do that?
    Thanks
    Christian

    Have you fiugured this out on your own?
    I just played around a bit and found a method, but it's not exactly intuitive. Select the object(s), then switch to the Rotate tool. The center of rotation will be defined as one of the transformation handles, but you can drag it to anywhere you like, so move it to the point that you want as the center of your mirror. Hold down the Alt/Opt key, and click the reflect button to make a mirrored copy. Without the modifier key the original objects will mirror their position around the repositioned reference.

  • How do I use AppleScript to Change the Creation Date to the Current Date?

    I sorted my downloads folder by creation date and found that the items were sorted seemingly randomly. On closer inspection, I saw that the creation dates were not the same as the dates that I downloaded the items, so I figures that Snow Leopard was using the date given to it by the server.
    In order to get the items sorted by download date, I figured I'd use Hazel, but it doesn't have a “change creation date” item. It does, however, have an “run AppleScript” item.
    So my question is this: how do I use AppleScript to change the creation date of an item to the current date?

    TC (Techno Cat) wrote:
    Okay, I tried changing the creation date with SetFile, but it kept giving me an error:
    What am I doing wrong?
    Looks like the date and time was not quoted
    Try this Applescript. It will change the creation date of every file in the Downloads folder to the current date and time:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    font-weight: normal;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #E6E6EE;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the AppleScript Editor">
    set current_date_and_time to do shell script "date \"+%m/%d/%Y %H:%M\""
    tell application "Finder"
    set filelist to every file of the alias (the path to downloads folder as text)
    repeat with currentFile in filelist
    do shell script "/usr/bin/SetFile -d " & quoted form of current_date_and_time & space & quoted form of POSIX path of (currentFile as string)
    end repeat
    end tell</pre>

  • Change cursor to pointer in spry photo gallery

    Can anyone help me, I have created a website using Adobe's Spry Photo album and I need the cursor to change to a pointer to give the user an indication that there will be an action occuring when the thumbnail in the gallery is clicked.
    Dave Powers suggested that I use a "hover pseudo-class" and gave me this code and suggested I put it into my Style sheet.
    .thumbs:hover {
       cursor: pointer;
    I tried this but it did not work.
    The website is: www.artizancreations.co.uk
    Have I put this code in the wrong place, if so where should it go?
    Regards

    Hi Nadia, thanks for the input, I tried your suggestion and the cursor remained the same. I am trying the suggestions before uploading to my server, that is why you will not find David's code anywhere.
    Ah, that confirms why I couldn't see it  :-)
    copied and pasted directly into the css stylesheet initially, but that did not work. Do I have to create a new rule in the style sheet and if so would it be a class? and once that rule has been made how do I add the code?
    Well, into the stylesheet would be better because if you have the a similar gallery on another page, the other pages will read it too, if they are linked to the stylesheet.
    Yes, it is a class.
    Perhaps .thumbs should read .thumbnails as I do not think thumbs is anywhere in my code?
    If there is a .thumbnails class in your current stylesheet and it refers to the styling of the thumbnails, then yes, replace thumbs with thumbnails and see if that works.
    On a very quick look, I couldn't see a class for the thumbnails, all I could see what a class for the .thumbsContainer.
    I'm only going by the code that David supplied you to make sure you place it in the correct place for testing purposes.  I have not used this gallery before and am not sure of all the styles associated with it.
