AppleScript to move RSS in Mail to another mailbox?

I'm trying process the RSS feeds I have sent to my Mail app but it would seem to do that the RSS files need to be
in a standard mailbox. Ultimately I need to get just the titles of the RSS emails into a text file. I have found I can
do that with a mailbox but I can't find a way to perform that on an RSS folder.
Any ideas or help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Carl

Robert -
Thanks for the heads-up.  Now that the browser has been updated, I will post this question again -- in the forum you recommended.
Monday was my 1st venture into the Apple Support Discussions.  Spent most of that day trying to obtain an Apple ID.  Started by filling out all the information Apple requires.  When I tried to submit that information, I received a message saying I already had an Apple ID.  Guessed that this happened when Apple somehow obtained my email address -- which they have been using frequently ever since to send promotional material.
So, went to the web page for forgotten passwords.  Filled in given name, surname, and email address.  Then, tried to go to the next page by clicking on the 'Next' button at the foot of that page.  Nothing happened.  The status bar remained blank.  (You will see more of that dilemma in a later post to this forum entitled: Problem Navigating Apple Support Discussions.)
After repeating these steps more than once, I finally phoned Apple tech support.  The person I reached was very helpful.  She was kind enough to confirm that I did have an Apple ID and directed me to the web page where I could create a password.  While I am most grateful to that tech support person, I have not named her -- for fear of the criticism she would very likely be receiving for letting me loose in these forums.
Thanks again for your assistance,
David

  • E-mail changes to unreadable text when moved to another mailbox folder

    Hi,
    when moving a correct received e-mail to another mailbox folder, the mail and the attachment will change to unreadable text and it looks like the column below.
    On my iPad and iPhone the mail and the attachment is shown correct. If I forward it to my own account again, the mail is also correct shown an my imac27, as long as it resides in the in-box.
    On the other hand, there are lots of mails+attachments with "normal" behavier when moved.
    Any idea about that?

  • Applescripts in RSS in mail

    I want to perform an action when a given rss updates (search for a linked file on the message and if available download it) but rss feeds doesn't seem to work exactly like mail messages in mail.
    I subscribed to an rss feed in leopard, asked to put that feed in my inbox whenever it updates and created a new rule for it running an applescript.
    For example if I run this test script:
    using terms from application "Mail"
    on perform mail action with messages newMessages
    repeat with newMessage in newMessages
    say "i received a message"
    tell application "Mail"
    set senderName to (extract name from sender of newMessage)
    set SubjectText to subject of newMessage
    set MailMessage to (content of newMessage)
    say "it's from" & senderName & "and it says" & SubjectText & MailMessage
    end tell
    end repeat
    end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
    it will read the confirmation that it receive the message but wont say any other texts.
    Is this an error with my script or is it because rss in mail is just funny?

    In AppleScriptObjC, you connect your button by using *Interface Builder* outlets and actions, the same as any other Cocoa application. For example, when you define properties and handlers in your script such as:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    font-weight: normal;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFEE80;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into Xcode's Script Editor">
    property aButton: missing value
    to doButtonStuff_(sender)
    -- do something when the button is clicked
    log sender's |title|()
    end doButtonStuff_
    </pre>
    … from *Interface Builder*, the script items will appear in the script delegate's connections, where they can be connected directly to the interface objects.
    There still aren't many examples, but see:
    Apple's AppleScriptObjC Release Notes
    MacScripter's AppleScriptObjC in Xcode
    To edit older applications, you can enable the AppleScript tab in IB's Inspector Window (see the above release notes), but to make a new application using *AppleScript Studio* you will need to use a project template from an older Xcode version, since the new version only has the ASOC templates.

  • Applescript process message body from mail rule help please

    Would someone be kind enough to help me figure out how to do this?  I've been reading for hours on other posts and I can't get this to work.
    Here is an example:
    I would like to set up a mail rule to run an applescript that searches the body of the email for "-Front Door- Open".  I then want to parse the body and sets myDevice= "-Front Door-" and myState="Open".  After I have these variables set, I want to make an call to something like https://foo.me.com/api/token/${state.accessToken}/smartapps/installations/${app.id}/Notify?device=${myDevice}&type=ContactSensor&state=${myState}
    I understand how to do the mail rule, I just can't figure out the applescript part of it.

    The script works just fine - at least, as designed if not as expected.
    When the script runs, Mail and/or AppleScript looks for a perform mail action handler. If that is found, the commands within are executed.
    If there is no perform mail action handler then the script is run as-is (i.e. as if you clicked 'Run' in AppleScript Editor).
    And that's exactly what's happening here. In the first case (that works) the script is running because there's no (visible) perform mail action handler.
    In the second case where it apparently doesn't work, there is a handler, so that handler is being executed. Any code outside that handler is ignored (unless it's called from within the perform mail action handler.
    Since your 'say' command is outside the handler, it is ignored. However, if you move it inside the perform mail action handler you'll hear your speech.

  • Need Applescript to apply stationery in mail.app

    Hi all,
    I need help to make an applescript that will apply a selected stationery to a new message window that is already open in mail.app. Can anyone please assist? Thanks a ton!
    Ultimately, I have a filemaker db that is going to have a button scripted to open a new message to a contact but I can't figure out how to then add the stationery to the message...

    I know it sounds very similar, but if you want Gmail to function in Mail.app like it does in Gmail, where you archive most but not all of your mail, there are some unique settings.
    Gmail's recommended settings for Mail.app:
    (note: for the rest of this message, if Gmail is a link, that's because I can't figure out how to not make hard-brackets not evoke some kind of special message board code.)
    Trash:
    Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox > do NOT check
    Store deleted messages on the server > do NOT check
    * Do NOT save deleted messages on the server. Messages that are deleted from an IMAP folder (except for those in [Gmail]/Spam or [Gmail]/Trash) only have that label removed and still exist in All Mail. Hence, your client doesn't need to store an extra copy of a deleted message.
    * Do NOT save deleted messages to your [Gmail]/Trash folder because this will delete a message in all folders.
    * Do NOT save deleted messages to your [Gmail]/All Mail folder as some clients will try to empty this folder and ultimately fail. This can lead to delayed mail access or excessive battery consumption on a mobile device.
    I can't try your script just now (at work), but I will try it once I get home. It looks like it should work in the most basic scenario.
    If I wanted to filter the messages to go into the account specific Trash mailbox, is that a trivial process? Could I:
    tell application "Mail"
    set theMessages to (get selection)
    set theAccount to (get account of theMessages)
    move theMessages to mailbox "Trash" of "[Gmail]" of account "theAccount"
    end tell
    That's just my guess at what the Applescript might look like.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • Move Message with Attachment from one Mailbox to another problem

    Hi,
    starting with Exchange 2013 we have following odd thing.
    (That happens with Outlook 2010 aswell as Outlook 2013).
    My mailbox has several other mailboxes mounted aswell. (using Full Access at ECP Settings), aswell as one separate Exchange Mailbox with own User/Password.
    Now, when I have an Email with an attachment (like Word, .jpg, whatever), I used to move it to another mailbox by using "drag & drop".
    The mail was moved to the mailbox without noticable changes.
    Starting with Exchange 2013, the Mail is changed into Rich Text. That means, the attachment now appears somewhere within the message, instead as real attachment. Some attachments are also lost, and as the message was moved, the only way to recover it is
    using our external Email Archive.
    Is this a bug, or didn't I see any option that results in this odd behaviour?
    Moving to a different folder does work as expected, but not to another mailbox.
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Based on some research we have decided to create a workaround as all mails got converted from HTML to Rich Text when moving from User Mailbox to a PST(Archive).
    We have built an add-in for end-users to archive based on the following Outlook-VBA
    Option Explicit
    Sub MoveToFolder()
    Dim objApp As Outlook.Application
    Dim strPath As String
    Dim objNS As NameSpace
    Dim objFolder As Outlook.MAPIFolder
    Dim olCurrExplorer As Outlook.Explorer
    Dim olCurrSelection As Outlook.Selection
    Dim olCurrMailItem As MailItem
    Dim m As Integer
    'pick destination folder
    Set objApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
    Set objNS = objApp.GetNamespace("MAPI")
    Set objFolder = objNS.PickFolder
    'get selected mails
    Set objNS = objApp.GetNamespace("MAPI")
    Set olCurrExplorer = objApp.ActiveExplorer
    Set olCurrSelection = olCurrExplorer.Selection
    For m = 1 To olCurrSelection.Count
    Set olCurrMailItem = olCurrSelection.item(m)
    On Error Resume Next
    olCurrMailItem.Move objFolder
    If Err.Number <> 0 Then
    With olCurrMailItem
    ' due this week flag
    .MarkAsTask olMarkThisWeek
    ' sets a specific due date
    .TaskDueDate = Now + 3
    .FlagRequest = "Call "
    .Save
    .FlagStatus = olFlagComplete
    End With
    olCurrMailItem.Move objFolder
    End If
    Next m
    End Sub
    for us it was important to have the mails still in HTML Formats as some customers are sending embedded images in the mail-body which are removed when the mail where converted to Rich Text.
    For people who doesn't care in which format an mail gets archived another workaround is to Flag the Message with an follow up action, then unflag (complete the follow up) and users are able to move the messages but still they would be converted from HTML
    to Rich Text.
    Strange enough that with a simple VBA move event the message will stay in HTML Format we are happy to found a solution and maybe someone else can use it.

  • Every time I move emails from the inbox to another mailbox, then click on any mailbox, and then go back to the inbox, the moved messages have returned to the inbox

    Every time I move emails from the inbox to another mailbox, then click on any mailbox (the emails are there fine), and then go back to the inbox, the moved messages have returned to the inbox. I have moved them out of the inbox to other mailboxes again and again, but then they keep showing up in the inbox again as soon as I click on any mailbox other than the inbox. Very frustrating.
    This has only happened since I installed Mavericks on both my Macbook Pro and my iMac. It happens on both of them.
    Any ideas how to fix it?
    peter

    This may be one of the known issues with Gmail and it's IMAP settings working with Maverick's Mail.
    It all comes down to if you have the ALL MAIL folder visible or not via IMAP.
    If you do not, then you get the behavior you are describing.
    If you do have ALL MAIL visible, then there isn't a problem.
    Odd, I know.
    Anyway, check out this article on Wired which describes the problem and work around. You may have to click on the NEXT button at the top of the window to advance to the proper gallery image that describes this issue:

  • Moving MAIL to another internal hard drive?

    I'm out of room on my start-up drive, and I have been considering moving the apple MAIL program off of the main start-up drive and onto one of my other internal hard drives.  (I get the impression MAIL and all the eMail & stuff stored with it takes up a LOT of space!)
    can anyone tell me what the steps would be in moving MAIL to another hard drive?
    Thanks!

    What else is on your boot drive? Move that to a data drive first and always (music, photo, video, etc) all your user data.
    Then consider moving the home folder to another drive, very easy from the User control panel (use to be Accounts).
    Move the system to an SSD or SSD-PCIe
    Put "user account" on its own drive (SSD maybe as well)
    A data drive. 4TB drives are fast and more affordable.
    PCIe so you aren't using the 4 drive bays and can do SATA III and faster (SSD devices that are faster than a pair of SSDs)
    Create a lean system boot drive with only OS and apps.

  • Is there a way to get out of using RSS in mail.app and go back to Safari?

    Hello,
    I am a big RSS user and have a pretty huge and unwieldy subscription list. When Leopard shipped, I started using mail.app to read my RSS. I went so far as to delete all of my subscriptions from Safari and rely entirely on mail.app.
    As some of you may have noticed from other threads in this forum, RSS in mail.app seems to be not ready for primetime. Specifically, if I leave mail.app open for more than about an hour, the RSS feeds stop updating entirely or update sporadically. It is at this time when I will also invariably find a Database.sqlite3 file in my trash can (which prevents the trash can from being emptied, too).
    If I restart mail.app, the feeds start updating again BUT INCLUDE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF OLD ITEMS. This happens every time I restart mail.app now. I have read all of the other threads that suggest that perhaps dot mac bookmark synching is to blame. This cannot be in my case since I have it all turned off and am not a dot mac member. I have no plugins installed in mail.app or safari.
    I have come to the conclusion that RSS in mail.app is too buggy and unreliable to be used and I would like to go back to Safari. The trouble is that when Leopard shipped, the idea of RSS in mail.app made perfect sense to me and I got so enthusiastic and "there's no going back" that I deleted my enormous amount of RSS subscriptions in Safari. Is there anyway to export my RSS subscriptions from mail.app so that I can import them into Safari? I REALLY don't want to try and add them again one by one.

    here is a link to macosxhints.com that tells you how to output all of your feed URLs to a terminal window. from there you can cut and paste them into your new feed reader of choice...
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080319094830396
    and if you are in the marked for a new reader may i suggest David Watanabe's excellent NewsFire. he had just recently made it totally free as a gift to the macintosh community.
    best of luck.
