Applescript to open current Safari URL in Chrome?

I have decided not to install Adobe Flash in Lion. I did the same in Snow Leopard about six months ago. When I need to cheat I use Chrome to open flash-based content because its flashplayer is baked-in i.e. I don't have to download and install the plug-in from Adobe.
In Snow Leopard I found an applescript that allowed me to open the current Safari URL in Chrome. I placed it in Snow Leopard's ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/Safari/ folder. This created a persistent (always present) Script menu in the Finder's menubar. This applescript became a clickable item in the Script menu whenever Safari was the frontmost application.
An alternate method to run the same script: I placed it in Snow Leopard's ~/Library/Safari/Scripts/ folder. In this case the Script menu was present only when Safari was open *and* it was the frontmost application.
In either case, I could run the applescript from the Script menu whenever I wanted to see a webpage's flash-based content. In Lion, the Script menu does not appear with either method when attempting to run scripts in Safari.
Am I doing something wrong?
On a related note: I also used scripts in Snow Leopard to help manage my iTunes library. The Script menu appears and the iTunes scripts successfully run in Lion using the second method above i.e. when placed in the ~/Library/iTunes/Scripts/ folder. In Lion, the Script menu does not appear in Finder when I drop scripts into the ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/iTunes/ folder.

Have you checked the box “Show Script menu in menu bar” in the general preferences of the AppleScript Editor?

Issue while opening webi reports using OpenDoc url in Chrome browser

We are in SAP BI4.0 SP7. We are facing weird issue while opening the webi report via OpenDoc url in chrome. we are facing the below issue only in chrome and it works perfectly in IE and Firefox.
For the first time the report gets opened properly(when a session is created). If we try to open the same report from the same machine in a different browser tab, report gets opened up without any Tables\charts. We could see only a blank page with just the Report Tab name at the bottom. If we do refresh on the page, the report opens up correctly. We have checked for packet drops and there is no such thing. Is there any setting that we should make to resolve this. Your help is appreciated.

Hello Gokul,
first thing is to check is if your chrome version is supported by your current BO version as specified in the PAM (is it?). If the chrome version is supported, and you still have an issue, then you can check with a sap support engineer.

TS1702 I've done recent iOS update on IPad (2nd gen) and now game center will not open. and when I attempt to contact support it tells me that I need current safari browser, yet when I plug in it tells me all is up to date????????

I've done recent ios update on my IPad (2nd gen.) and now game center has stopped connecting. Just goes to blank white screen. I have synced 4 times and turned IPad on and off several times. when I try to connect to Apple support it tells me that i must have current safari browser. Yet when I sync to my MAC it tells me all is up to date with current ios.

Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons...
If no joy... Try a Restore...

Try running Pandora in its own tab and leaving that tab open (Safari 7.1.5, OS 10.9.5). I don't have Pandora to try this, but it works for me otherwise.

I have lost my Safari url bar ,tried view/customise toolbar but when box opens there is no address bar to drag back can anyone help please

I noticed a couple of days ago that my url bar on my imac was no longer there,I am new to the apple community and I am not sure how to progress with my qustion. I have tried selecting :- view / customise toolbar but the dropdown box which has various options to drag and drop does not show the address bar I am stuck can you help

One website is not opening in Safari or chrome

I have a strange problem. One website called www.abudhabievents.ae is not opening in Safari nor chrome and whenever I am trying its showing the following error : - usr/local/cache/files/block.html;403
I tried this website on my windows pc and could open it easily.
This problem is only in my macbook air and as of now only for this site. I can open all other sites.
Any body can help me on this please.

It works OK for me on Safari 7.1.2 (Mavericks) - are you using an older version? Try rebooting Safari to clear the cache (or command-option-e).

I tried simply renaming them however it just corrupts the files when I do it like that so I need the applescript to open the files in excel and the save them as .xlsx to test I only need it one folder but if it works I'd like to be able to do it for all documents with .xlsb extentions that are in a huge folder with subfolders that contain a mix of .pdf, .docx, .xlsx and .xlsb. Please Help.

Safari 3.0.4 stalls when opening an address (URL)

I installed the upgrade from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 which includes Safari 3.0.4. I typed in an address (URL) to be opened. Safari 3.0.4 began the connection but then stalled part way through. I tried a couple of other addresses with the same result. Firefox handled these same addresses with no problems. I checked my Input Managers folder and found only a Smart Crash Reports folder. I've removed Safari 3.0.4 and have reverted to Safari 2.0.4 which opens these addresses and works as well as it used to. Looks like 3.0.4 needs attention.

You have a basic misunderstanding of what Safari actually is. Safari is NOT a standalone web browser. Safari is more like a GUI (graphical user interface) to an OS X framework called WebKit which does all the real work. When you replaced Safari 3 with Safari 2 you did not revert to an earlier version of WebKit unless you knew exactly what you were doing, which would have consisted of much more than simply installing a copy of Safari 2. More likely Safari 3 is acting up on your system because of conflicts with earlier caches, add-ons, plugins, or preference files. Follow some of the recommendations here and in other threads and see if that doesn't help.

Is there a Chrome extension that will automatically open a matching URL in Firefox?

I'm on OSX. I use Chrome as my default browser (personal choice). However, an internal site that I use regularly is a boxed product that works only in Firefox.
Is there a Chrome extension that I can list URLs that Chrome should automatically open in Firefox instead? I want Chrome to remain my default browser, but when I click on a URL for that site in my email, Chrome opens the site in a tab, then opens Firefox with that URL, then closes the tab it opened.

Opening multiple URLs using window.open in Safari 3

Anyone know how to write javascript to open multiple URLs at once using Safari 3? Code like this worked fine in Safari 2, but when I upgraded to 10.4.11, Safari 3 now only opens the first URL when the javascript is run.

BTW, I'm also using Saft (and had been using it before when this worked).

If the Saft preference of "Always open browser window in tab" is unchecked, then Safari 3 will open each of the URLs in new Windows.
I've written to the author of Saft about the issue and will follow-up here with more details when available.

Ok, maybe small beer, but, when I open a Safari window from, for eg, google reader, the new window opens in front of my current Safari window, the window I am reading. This means that it covers my current window, which is annoying, to me. Similarly, when I open an application, the new app insists on coming to the front, and interrupting my work. As I said, small beer, but annoying.
Is there a way to make all new Safari windows and new apps start 'behind' the currently active window/app?

No. Why are you opening new windows when you don't want to act in them? Don't open them and you won't be disturbed.

I've made a script that does a certain "log in process". It opens a safari website-> does some actions -> opens a new website -> does some actions.
I dont want to "open" the final safari website before the script has ended.

The only way to do it, and even that doesn't always work, is by using a script. The basic code to use is:
app.launchURL("http://www.google.com", true);
The second parameter tells the browser to open the link in a new window.

I use firefox for my browsing, but I have so many blockers and security extensions in place that a few sites won't function in FF. so I just open those few sites with safari, and all is well. but I would like to force my these sites to open in safari, and all others open with ff. for example: when I drag a shortcut to my desktop from one of these sites, and force it to open with safari, it works that one time. but when I double-click on it again, it opens in ff (since ff is set globally as my default browser). help!

If you mean you want those specific shortcuts on your desktop to open with Firefox; then yes you can.
Ctrl-click a shortcut ( or select more than one & ctrl-click) ,choose 'get info'
in the 'open with:' section, change it to Safari.
don't click the 'change all' button - just close the info window(s).
That should force just those particular shortcuts to use Safari.
