Applescript to take a photo for filemaker

Need help if possible
I need to have the built in camera of an Imac take a photograph and insert it into a field in Filemaker Pro without user interaction.
It would hopefully be used for staff attendance, and track who is changing records.
I have no experience with applescript, but I think it might be the way to get the task done.

There are a many ways you cando this that I canthink of.
The cleanest is to have the photo saved into a folder on your server with  write only access. You can then access the files in this folder using containers to view them and match them to the events.
This automator might also help http://www.tuaw.com/2008/04/22/mac-automation-create-a-mail-triggered-spy-cam/  and while I am not sure that email will help it should be adaptable to save it to a folder or path
and a pug in called FIleplug in from Troi  would certainly help you
Script triggeers would help control the environemnt
Let me knowid you need anymore help

If Other (the yellow bar) is too big something is corrupted.  The only solution (that I know of) is to restore from your most recent backup using iTunes (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766).

  • Why does it take so long for the iPhone to recognize when space has been freed up for photos?

    The short story:
I try to take a photo using the built in camera app. I get the dreaded 'no enough storage' message.
I then delete a bunch of photos, podcasts, etc. effectively freeing up plenty of space to take a photo.
Nope - iPhone Camera still things there is no space available.
After some unknown time delay - 10 minutes or more, in many cases, it will FINALLY let me take a photo.
The longer and more detailed story:
I know EVERYONE gets this message at one time or another and I know how to resolve it: "Cannot Take Photo - There is not enough available storage to take a photo. You can manage your storage in Settings."
Fine. I understand that. I'm out of space on my phone (not iCloud, as some users seem to confuse). It's a no brainer - you don't have enough space on your phone to take a new picture. Again - fine, I get that.
What I DON'T get, and what drives me absolutely NUTS, is that I will then go through my photos and delete a dozen or so that I don't really want, easily freeing up a good 20Mb or more, then when I try to take a photo again, I STILL GET THE out of space MESSAGE! Baloney. I am NO LONGER out of space. iPhone, you incredibly well designed and intelligent piece of hardware, why, for the love of all that is good, can't you figure out that I know have 20Mb free?
So, then I'll jump over to Podcasts, which I love, but take up lots of room on my phone. I'll delete a few of the large ones I've already listened to, easily freeing up a few HUNDRED MEGABYTES. We should be good to go, right? WRONG. The iPhone genius still tells me I don't even have enough space to eek out one lousy photo.
If I let my phone sit there long enough -- 10 minutes, 30 minutes, a few hours -- I haven't determined when the magic happens -- eventually the iPhone realizes that 'Hey, the user just deleted a bunch of junk and, wow, I'll be a son of a gun -- there IS enough space now to take a photo. iPhone -- happy!'
Thanks for nothing, iPhone. By this time, my daughter has stopped doing that amazing cute thing that I wanted to capture forever and quite possibly spawn the next generation of 'Charlie Bit Me' parodies. I freed up 500 Mb of prime photo snapping space 20 minutes ago. Thanks for finally realizing it. I realize you can only do like 170 quadrillion calculations a millisecond. I realize these things take time.
Can one of you iPhone engineers please, for goodness sake, please explain to me why this INFURIATING and seemingly unnecessary delay exists? I am no Windows fan boy but I can sure tell you that when I'm running low on hard drive space on my laptop and then delete 1GB of files, that 1GB INSTANTLY becomes available to me. I don't have to wait some interminable timeframe until it magically is usable.
One last thing that is puzzling -- so the native iPhone camera will refuse to let me take a photo because it things we're out of space (when we're not) but any third party photo app, like Camera+ or Camera Awesome, will happily snap pictures all day long. In fact, once I've taken them using one of these apps, I can then SAVE THEM TO THE CAMERA ROLL!
By the way -- when I started this well thought out rant, my iPhone said it was out of storage, and now, five minutes later -- you guessed it -- still out of storage, despite the fact that I deleted 10 photos and 4 podcasts.
    So. Incredibly. Infuriating.
For you iOS 7 users, please let me know if this issue has been resolved at all with iOS 7. I've held off upgrading because iOS 7 messed up a bunch of things with the camera, at least on my wife's iPhone 5. Focus no longer works reliably -- touch to focus and touch to expose no longer work well -- the quality of photos took a big hit. I won't update until these issues have been resolved.

Thanks @pdroth. I did a quick Google search of DB indexing. I'm not sure I found exactly what you were referring to but I see where you're going with it. I can understand that indexing my database of stored photos can be time consuming. It's frustrating that the space can't be recognized as being free more quickly.
I notice that some items I delete seem to free up the space much more quickly. Removing an app entirely or deleting from my Music generally shows up as available space in Usage pretty quickly.
Deleting a photo or video from the Camera Roll will take MUCH longer, so I guess that has something to do with the indexing process you are referring to.
I'd like to point out that when I run out of space on an SD card on any budget point and click digital camera that I can quickly delete a picture or two and INSTANTLY be able to take a couple of new photos in their place. I guess I just have that same expectation for the $500+ engineering marvel I have in my hand right now.
    Thanks for chiming in.

  • Why does it take so long for iPhoto 6 to duplicate a photo?

I've got 3GB of RAM and it takes 10 seconds for iPhoto to simply duplicate a photo in my library. It is also a relatively lengthy process on my 20" iMac.
I select "Duplicate" from the menu or command-D, and then the "importing photo" screen comes up, there's a progress bar, and it takes WAY TOO LONG.
I've rebuilt my library many times, fixed permissions, converted all my color profiles to the generic one that iPhoto will place nice with, etc.
It didn't use to take this long, and I only have 7000 photos in my library!
Power Mac Dual 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

With my setup it takes 3 seconds to duplicate a 3MB file in iPhoto. A lot will depend on the processor speed (we're the same) memory (again the same) and free space on the HD (I've got much more than 20G). My Mac, however, is a G5 and that may be the difference.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Why does it take so long for uploaded photos to appear in the photos folder?

It takes too long for uploaded photos to appear in the photos folders.  I do not like the "new" photos.  I much prefer iPhoto.  Can I make iPhoto my default or am I stuck with this stupid Photos???  Editing is lousy, too.

Can I make iPhoto my default or am I stuck with this stupid Photos?
You can continue using iPhoto depending on what version your have?  Currently the only version that runs with 10.10.3 is iPhoto 9.6.1.  What version do you have?  Also do you have a backup copy of your iPhoto library made just prior to upgrading to 10.10.3?

try soft reset dude (press and hold power and home button together, NOTE: the only time you let go of those buttons is when you see the apple logo, when you see the apple logo: let go quickly. your iPhone should restart, if NOT, turn it on and do soft reset again)
    then test your camera.

  • Using applescript to delete a photo given its path

I'd like to build a little Applescript that take an image path and permanently:
    - delete that photo from the library
    - delete that photo from the computer
    - deletes the associated thumbnail (if any)
Does someone have an example script that I could use for that?

    Louis:
You can either "flag" the photos or give them a unique keyword so that you can search for either, find the group and delete them, emptying the iPhoto trash once they are moved to it.

  • How can you take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in.

As the title says I need help on how to take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in. Right now when I want to move a picture from one event to another I drag it to my desktop then delete it from iPhoto then I drag it back into iPhoto and put where I want it.An example would be taking a photo from the Christmas event and add it to a specific person event.  Can I do that within the events section without all the dragging. Also is there anyway I can remove duplicates from iPhoto without going through each and every file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple doesn't make it easy to do what you want.  However, here's how I do it.
Select the photo you want to move and create a new Event for it via the Event ➙ Create Event menu option.
In the Event mode select the new Event with the one picture and drag it onto the Event you want to move the photo to.

  • Why are my photos not as sharp when I import them into Facebook from the Aperture Projects file, compared to when I 'share' them with Facebook within the Aperture programme? There is a noticeable difference and has been spoiling my photos for some time.

Hi all, I take wildlife photos (mostly birds) as a hobby, and have become frustrated with the quality of my photos recently when shared online, particularly Facebook.
I started blaming my camera ( a Canon 7D) as I changed it a few months ago from a Canon 550D, and I soon noticed that the images were not as good. Then I realised it was when I started using Aperture.
I started by using the 'share' option within Aperture but I soon realised that then I have no control over the creation of an album, and the photos start appearing on facebook before I have finished uploading them and given them captions. Plus if I subsequently move them or export them to my back up drive then they disappear from Facebook!
So I started creating albums within Facebook and then importing the photos from the aperture projects file on my computer. Because they are imported I can then delete or move the aperture file and the photos stay on facebook. Otherwise my macbook was becoming completely full.
However to test my theory I have today uploaded the same photo edited in Aperture stored in the same projects folder using the two different methods described above, and there is a very distinct difference between the quality of the two images. The shared ones are very much sharper than the imported ones.
I am a computer novice and don't know how to check what the quality settings are, or how to adjust anything to improve the way the photos go into facebook. I do have a manual but I just cant understand it :-(
I have tried a free sample of Lightroom 5 and my photos  look amazing, there is such a difference, but I don't want to give up with Aperture unless the problem really can't be solved.
Sorry for such a long first post, I would be very very grateful for any help you can give me!
    Regards
    Susan

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.

  • My iPhone 4s turns off after battery gets below 40% and sometimes when I take a photo,it shows the photo in the photo album but will display a white screen when i tap on the photo. Please help thank you :)

My Iphone 4s is 2 years and 3 months old. the battery drains very quickly, sometimes turning off once it reaches 40% if I open an app or say the camera.
I charge it more than twice a day now as the battery life is so poor.
Also, when I take a photo, the phot sometimes shows in the album, but if I click on it, it shows up as a white screen and I cannot send the photo either as the recipient gets a blank screen.
I am not super flash with technology, so please be nice!
    Thank you

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • I want to take the photos off my iPhone and put them directly onto an external hard disk. I want to bypass iPhoto altogether. When I link my iPhone to my computer, it only opens in iTunes, which only gives me the option to save my photos to iPhoto. Help!

I want to take the photos off my iPhone and put them directly onto an external hard disk - I don't have any room left on my computer. I want to bypass iPhoto altogether. When I link my iPhone to my computer, it only opens in iTunes, which only gives me the option to save my photos to iPhoto. Help!  This is seriously frustrating!.
Additionally, I'd like to be able to take the 2000+ photos out of iPhoto and put them on a disk in a folder. I have managed to export them to the hard disk but it's just plonked all 2000+ photos in a list - not ideal if I want to use it for anything else. And then I have to manually delete the photos from iPhoto. Is there not a quick and easy way of dealing with this?
Anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks for your help!

I too would like to be able to do this. Just put them where i want the. IFTT a scripting app will put the images in dropbox for you , but its been pretty iffy.

  • Iphoto has been importing photos for over an hour and i can't get it to stop. can't stop importing and can't shut down computer.

iphoto has been importing photos for over n hour and I can't get it to stop.  Can't get out of iphoto and can't shut down computer.

iPhoto works best when the source (Pictures folder) is on a different disk drive than the iPhoto Library is on.
And you need to have enough free disk space to work with, the faster the better.
Also, do not keep your media folders and those in your home folder on the same drive as the system, also another bottleneck.
Until or unless you have everything on 1400MB/sec SSD PCIe controller, you want
    System boot drive
Media and data folders and such
    scratch
    backup
    etc
I put iPhoto on an SSD off an SSD PCIe Sonnet Tempo card
If you stop- it, you will need to trash the Library it was creating.
Reading and writing to/from the same hard drive will be slow.
You don't mention which Mac, or how large you are trying to import etc
Also the support page and link to the iPhoto Commuinity is off this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto
Take a look in Activity Monitor. See what the % being used for iPhoto, how many pageouts, how much free space on the various disk drives, and how much RAM do you have installed?

  • Should I still down-size photos for my website?

Hi - I am making a website.  I know - or at least I think I know - that you should down-size your images for fast loading times.  For example, if I have a photo that's 3800x3800 and is 2 MB in size, I always down-size it to maybe 1000x1000 and about 150KB or so.
I know we like to think that "everyone" has a fast web connection but I don't think that's always the case and with mobile you have to factor that in too.
A colleague working on another website asked me what I thought of her photo gallery.  She had a thumb nail and when you click on it, it opens up much like a light box effect.  Her large photo is 1200 x 1200 and is 1 MB in file size.  I pointed out to her that she may want to take the larger photo and if she wants to keep the 1200 x 1200 fine, but she may want to reduce file size.  I got it down to about 180KB and sent them to her side by side.  She said she was worried about the quality (I honestly did not notice anything but maybe her eyes are better than mine).
I know there's always a catch-22 of "quality vs. file size."  So with all of this said, I'm just asking for links, opinions, and so forth about this.  I also tried explaining that phones don't always have great connections so the down-sizing should be taken into consideration.
Should I continue to scale down my photos like I have been as described above?  Or doesn't it matter any more - that I can take a 1 or 2 MB photo and just use that for my web image to display in a photo gallery?
Any thoughts, links to articles, etc., are appreciated.  Thanks, Deaf Guy

Hi Osgood - I'm fully aware of shooting high res and down-scaling for whatever you need the image for.  Some folks I've worked with over the years were totally unaware.  They thought you could shoot a low-res image and then blow it up to your heart's desire.
I totally understand and respect your thoughts on your post.  I basically look at as to each his own - whatever makes you and your clients happy is the key.  At the same time there should be at least a minimum amount of standards and expectations, too.  Taking a client photo that was given to me and it's 2500x2500 and 2.5 MB and they say, "Stick this on my web page," I think it's important that they understand that this is not smart because of the large file size, possible slow connections and so forth.
The only time I would post it as is if it was some kind of photo gallery where you would want the person to have access to the large file (similar to what iStock does).
I think educating your client is also important.  When I sent the side by side photos to her, she said, "So how do you do this?"  This person is also a web developer to boot.  I'm not criticizing her, but I thought most web developers would at least know about scaling down photos for websites.
But anyway, thanks for your post on this.

  • Mysterious but clever facility on Macbook rotating photos for display.

I have a question that has puzzled me for days and I can't find out how or why the Macbook does this.
I took a photo on my digi camera in "Portrait" orientation or mode in other words I turned the camera sideways on to take a photo of a tall building. When I transferred the jpg from camera card to Macbook desktop the photo thumbnail on the desktop was mysteriously rotated by stealth purely for viewing as a thumbnail on the screen. More confusion followed! When I transfer the same photo to my PC (sorry to use a two letter word!) the photo on the desktop is still in "landscape" mode and opening it in any PC software displays it in landscape sideways on so I have to rotate it and save it in new orientation.
I tried opening the picture on the Macbook using Preview and it appears there, turned into correct orientation (Portrait) but the picture hasn't been rotated by me. Also when I attach the said photo to an email it dumps the picture on its side (un-rotated) so is impossible to view properly by the recipient of the mail unless they rotate the picture in software external to their email client. Or perhaps turn their monitor on its side, or get a crick in their neck
On the Macbook opening the picture using a web-browser it appears the way it is in reality ie on its side and needs turning through 90 deg. But Preview and iPhoto both turn it the right way up for viewing. So the picture is artificially "righted" by desktop thumbnail view; by iPhoto viewing; by Preview viewing, but left in its original orientation for email and webpage viewing.
How does the Macbook know that this is a photo that has arrived on its side and needs rotating to view it, but then leaves the actual physical rotation to us for doing in an external program?
This secret facility did slightly wrong-foot me as I forgot to rotate the picture and added it to an email both by Insert facility and Attach facility and in both instances the photo sat in the email on its side.
My bible "Switching to the mac Leopard Edition" says nothing about this trick of Macs to display unrotated photos in correct view. Can anyone please throw any light on this concept for me?
    Thanks in advance
    Plado

Well the plot thickens a bit here. I managed to get a photo with rotational information built-in, to appear in Thunderbird email the right way up by Rotating Anti Clockwise 3 times. Then when I added the picture to email it ended up the right way up.
So the next day I tried another experiment and I switched off the AUTO-ROTATE setting in the Canon Camera and took a picture in Portrait orientation (turning the camera on its side as usual) I then took an identical photo with Auto-Rotate switched back on. I imported both pictures to the Macbook. I saw that the auto rotate "on" setting picture appeared on my macbook desktop rotated the right way for viewing. The one with auto-rotate switched off appeared on desktop on its side.
Now I went to add both pictures to Thunderbird email by Insert as usual and for some inexplicable reason the odd behaviour decided to cure itself and the auto-rotate photo appeared in the email the right way up instead of on its side, and the auto-rotate switched off photo appeared in the email on its side.
I sent the email to someone who verified that picture one was the right way up, and picture 2 was on its side. So this sounds to me like it's a stupid phenomenon of Thunderbird mail as installed on a mac. There can be no other reason why it behaves one way yesterday and the opposite effect the next day.
So I think my problem is solved now. But I bet the peculiar behaviour returns as this afternoon Thunderbird stopped displaying any cursor when clicking in the text of what I was writing. Something weird going on with that. Exasperating!
