AppleShare error message when connecting to network in Classic

I have been using an old PowerPC Macintosh 7300/166 as a file server connected by ethernet cable to a 15" PowerBook G4 running OS X (10.3.9) in Classic without problems. However on updating to 10.4.8 I get the message "AppleShare system error" after I've entered the password in the Chooser window on the G4. Any ideas?
powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

This phenomenon was discussed down in the benthic depths of Pre-G3 Computers at:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3491236&#3491236
some couple of months ago. In essence, older computers can be clients to OS X.4 machines, but not vice versa if the older computer is running less than OS 9. Otherwise, all works as expected.
It is also of help to make sure that users have the same OS X 'Short name' on OS X and older OSs alike.
At this moment, my wife's eMac and the iMac on which I am writing, with Panther and Tiger respectively, are showing clearly in the Chooser of a Classic II running System 7.5, using no more magic than an Asanté EN/SC bridge and a Netgear 10Base-T hub to connect the Classic II to the LAN.

Not the iPad - your computer must be running iTunes 10.7 in order to sync. It has nothing to do with iTunes on the iPad.

  • Error message when connecting 80GB Video iPod

I'm getting this error message when trying to connect my 80GB Video iPod:
"The iPod (name) cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-48)."
    Never seen this one before.
I haven't synced this iPod for a few weeks but it always behaved fine before, taking a few seconds to appear in iTunes (v7.5) then syncing perfectly when I hit the Sync button (I have it set to manually sync only because sometimes I want to change the contents or only sync music).
Before syncing on this occasion, I did an iPod software update via iTunes - iTunes said there was a newer version (1.2.3). After the update, I disconnected the iPod for a few minutes (somehting I wanted to check content before syncing), then reconnected it. At first iPod took about a minute to show up in iTunes - way too long. I Reset the iPod and tried again but still LONG delay to appear in iTunes (again about 1 minute). I did another Reset - same result. Then I did a complete Restore, after which syncing to restore the contents gave problems - it refused to finish the sync. I had to disconnect and start again, syncing the data one section per sync session - Contacts, music, videos, iCal - which seemed to work fine. Then I disconnected, waited a few minutes then reconnected the iPod to check. It wouldn't connect at all. Did a Reset, tried o connect again and it did connect but then proceeded to resync all my contacts taking almost 30 minutes (way too long) to do so (I had made NO changes in Address Book since that data was put in there). I tried to reconnect again but then got the error message (above). Did another total Restore and the same shenannigans happened. Now, I have an iPod with data on it and works fine, but iTunes won't recognise it - just gives this error message every time.
By the way, my 8GB Nano (software 1.1.3) seems to sync fine on the same system, same computer.
Could this be the 1.2.3 iPod software giving issues? I appreciate any help because I also use this iPod for recording for my work, which getting a little urgent now.
    Many thanks.

Thanks Zevoneer, but no real success. I did all that but when I tried to sync after it, it got partially through the sync (about 10% I'd guess) and presented an error message saying that the disk couldn't be read form or written to (sorry but I forgot the error number). I disconnected the iPod, waited a few minutes then reconnected and again got the message but then the ipod continued to finish the sync, even though almost all of the music and 2 of my 4 videos didn't go over to the iPod. I'm now thinking that this just isn't satisfactory reliability from the device since I use it a lot in my work and rely on it. But this new iPod is only a few months old, had very little use and only made about 12 recordings - In comparison, I've used the Nano heaps but now want to move over to the bigger one, basically for more capacity and bigger screen for video. I wonder if it's a hard drive failure in this iPod?

Regarding uninstalling, this is from the FAQ on the MacFuse site (http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/wiki/FAQ):
    Q 2.3. How can I uninstall MacFUSE?
A: Launch the Mac OS X System Preferences application and go to the MacFUSE preference pane. Click on the "Remove MacFUSE" button. This will uninstall all MacFUSE components except the preference pane itself.
You can keep the MacFUSE preference pane around should you decide to install MacFUSE again in the future. If you do wish to remove it, you do it just like how you would remove any other non-Apple preference pane: In System Preferences, control-click (right-click) on the MacFUSE icon and you will see "Remove ..." as an action.
Only if you had the "Show Beta Versions" button checked in the MacFUSE prefpane, you'll have a property list (plist) file remaining at this point:/Library/Preferences/com.google.macfuse.plist. To remove it, you should uncheck the button before you remove the prefpane as described above.
Note that an official (correct) MacFUSE installation will have a preference pane if you have MacFUSE 2.0 or later installed. If you have an older version of MacFUSE, you can uninstall as follows.
The other thing you can do if you're having problems is go into System Preferences and there should be an icon for MacFuse.  By going into that there may be an option to disable it.  If so, do that first before attempting to uninstall and try mounting your drives again.

    Hello guys!
Hope someone can help. We have a HP Photosmart D110 series that is a couple years old. I am trying to get it connected to the web services feature for my wife. When we first got the printer it connected with no problems. When I go and click on enable web services it tells me cannot connect to server. Same error message happens when I try to do a product update. I tried to change manual preferred to 8. 8. 8. 8. and manual alternate to 8. 8. 4. 4. with no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Receiving an error message when connecting to internet saying: windows cannot find "address" but it connects anyway???

The error message that appears when trying to access internet says that windows cannot find "address" and asks to make sure it was typed in correctly. It continues to connect but is a hassle to deal with the error message each time. Any suggestions?

What is the ip address you are getting on the Vista Computer..?
Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Wireless Network Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
IP Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...
If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...If it gives you request timed out then disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...
If you get 4 replies then type ping 4.2.2.2 and press Enter, if you get request timed out, then you need to upgrade your router's firmware...If you get 4 replies then type ping yahoo.com and press Enter...If you get replies for Yahoo then you should get the Internet after adjusting the browser settings...
Adjusting Browser Settings : Open an IE, click Tools >> Internet Options, then delete all files, cookies, history, forms...Goto "Connections", make sure Never Dial a Connection is checked, click on LAN Settings and make sure all the options are unchecked...Once you are done click on O.k...Close the IE and re-open it...
If yahoo times out then provide static DNS on your LAN Connection...
Click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>>Network Connections- Right click on the icon for Wireless Network Connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the Following DNS Settings' Preferred DNS 4.2.2.2 Alternate DNS - 192.168.1.1>>Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...You should be able to go online...

  • Error message when connect to wireless router with wifi enabled phone

    Wireless router model WRT54G Ver.2
i would like to seek help on this.
I have been using a wirreless router to access the internet with my computer and it has been working fine. recently i got a handphone with wifi capability (nokia 5800). I managed to connect the phone to connect to the wireless router (it says so in the phone status). but when i tried to open the browser in the phone i got an error message "No Gateway Reply".
Can anyone help me to troubleshoot?
    I enable WEP for security.
another thing is, i tried to use the phone to connect to another wireless router at the cafe, it worked well.
    thanks

When you connect your handphone to your wireless network, whats the IP address you are getting it on your handphone, if required you can provide a static ip on your handphone i.e IP : 192.168.1.10, Subnet : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1, DNS1: 4.2.2.2, DNS2 : 4.2.2.1 and after this you can restart your handphone and try to check if you are able to go online or not.

  • Ipod error message when connected. Please help

    Windows XP
I have had my 30 gigabyte ipod for almost a year and i've never had any problems with it before. But recently our area wasn't able to get broadband. So i was unable to download the recent ipod and itunes updates. I have done that now.. but i think something has affected my ipod. When i plug it into my computer nothing comes up on my ipod screen and i can continue browsing music etc.. i know this isn't supposed to happen. And on my computer an error message comes up saying "USB device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it. "
    Please help me!

Okay. So i'll tell you the steps i have taken. I've uninstalled all the ipod updaters i had on my computer, eg 2006 and 2005.. and i reinstalled the latest version of itunes. I also went to device manager and all that but it only came up in the list at "unknown device" and i uninstalled the driver and tried to reinstall it but it came up saying it was an unknown device again. I tried right clicking on it and going "scan for hardware updates" but it told me the one i have installed is the nearest match. I also tried connecting my ipod to my computer in disc mode which did nothing. But i have discovered my ipod charges when i plug it in.. but the computer freezes on the black dos screen (as it always has for me when i turn the computer on with the ipod plugged in) and the ipod remains charging. but it seems if i plug it in after windows has loaded it's not even recognised.
I'm sorry for making it so long but i really really need help

  • IPod Error Message when connected to the computer

When I have my iPod connected to my computer and listening to it's music through the computer, or even just updating songs onto my iPod, I always get an error message.
It doesn't really do anything, except it's just there and it's bugging me...On the bottom right of my computer where the time is- thats where the message pops up and it keeps on coming back every 10 minutes or so.
    The message says-
    iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory /iPod_Control/iTunes/Temp File 1 is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
How would I go about fixing this, and what the hellll does it mean?????
Thanks in advance for the help

I've sort of figured out what the error message means- as in what it does to my iPod...
I am unable to add music to my iPod anymore. Anytime I connect my iPod to my computer and try to "safely remove it" with the eject thing, it says it is unable to because it is being files from my iPod Mini are being used by other files(I completely shut down all other music files and still received this message)...
So since I am unable to "safely remove the hardware", I have to do it without clicking the little eject iPod thing. When I do that, my iPod doesn't save any of the music I just put on it, and it comes out exactly the way it was before...
Any idea how to fix this, and how I got it???
And for some reason...My iPod keeps on telling me theres not enough room on it for any more songs when their is over 2.3 GBs left...
    What issss going on here???

  • Error message when connecting to Windows

I have a newer Ipod, 4g, that Im trying to connect to Windows. I d/l the latest version of Itunes and installed but when I connect the Ipod, it says it has detected an Ipod in recovery mode and I will need to restore etc. I first did the restore and update as it said. It gave a message that it was successful but then the error message came back up. I looked online and it suggested I reset the Ipod itself, which I did but the message still comes up. Is there any fix to this or does it need to be sent in? The unit is just about new, no songs on it yet. It belongs to a friend of my daughter who asked me to put some songs on it for her.

I have the same problems. Also I sent my ipod to repair but nobody find anything. The only possibility to snyc is: Switching off pc, connect ipod with pc, starting pc and itunes and now I can sync. But after a while itunes comes up with the same error massage (recovery mode). I think some service from itunes or ipod does not start correct, but I do not know which one.
    Has anybody an idea?

  • Http 403 error message when connecting to WRT120n router
