Applestore not installing Aperture on Powerbooks.

So I was at the Applestore in Chicago today and I asked one of the sales guys why Aperture wasn't installed on the Powerbooks. He proceeded to tell me that the hardware requirements for Aperture were a G5 processor. So he went and grabbed the box and read the first requirement then I pointed out to him that if you keep reading it says that Powerbook G4 1.25 GZH or higher qualify too. So that stopped him in his tracks and he scurried away with his tail between his legs.
Now if Apple are going to use Aperture to sell Powermac's etc. There's no question in my mind that it will sell 30" displays to people who want to use this program but Apple are missing an opportunity if they don't install Aperture on Powerbook G4's to demo providing the performance isn't too bad. I would suspect that some budding photographers and even Pros would want to use Aperture on assignment on a laptop.

10 D2X nefs, equal settings(including sharpening) on each file.
Test: Time the export/saving 10 full sized JPGs(level 10) on both systems under both Aperture and Bridge/ACR
In Aperture, stamp the same settings to 10 nefs, wait for the changes to appear on each thumbnail, then select the 10 nefs, and select export versions.
In Bridge, paste the camera raw settings to the 10 nefs, wait for the thumbnails to show changes(building cache), select the 10 nefs, open ACR under Bridge(not CS2) by pressing CMD-R, in the ACR dialog, select all images on the left, click "Save 10 images".
PowerMac: G5 dual 2 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, X 800 XT vid card, Aperture library and Bridge cache on separte SATA 7200 RPM internal disk
PowerBook: 15" 1.5 Ghz, 1.5 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, and 80 GB disk
Aperture results:
PowerMac: 2:07
PowerBook: 5:06
Bridge/ACR results:
PowerMac: 1:18
PowerBook: 2:12
As you can see Aperture requires 2x the time to export/save when compared to Bridge/ACR.
Further, it is amazing that the Powerbook could plow through the images in Bridge in the same time it took the Powermac to export the Aperture images...
Hmmm, then that would imply the best money is on a Powerbook running Bridge/ACR/CS2?
Sooooo, if you can cull/sort the images and apply raw settings in Aperture three to four times as fast as in Bridge then it is a wash...

  • Can not install aperture

Other apps install fine, but trying to purchase Aperture leaves me with the 'We could not complete your purchase.  The product distribution file could not be verified.  It may be damaged or was not signed."
This happens on 2 of the macs that I might want aperture on.
This is on OS X Lion, latest as of Dec 22 2011

It looks like this is some kind of App Store bug, actually.  If you enable the 'admin/root' user, the install commences without issue.  Other apps work fine.  So for now, that workaround will be the way to go.  Thanks to Apple support for helping me find this.

  • I have lost my Aperture 2 serial number how do I get a new one so that I can install Aperture 3 upgrade

I have Aperture 3 upgrade, so can someone please advise how I get my serial number for Aperture 2 please. Hence I can not install Aperture 2, and therefore same problem not being able to install upgrade. Assistance would be much appreciated.

I was having the same problem, unable to find my trash can. I did everythnig suggested in this post to no avail. Then I discovered if you hover to the far right of RECENT you will see either "Show" or "Hide"  "Show" reveals the following, including the trash. I'm sheepish that the solution was so easy but delighted to report that after viewing AND emptying my trash, I gained 55 GB on my HD.

  • I do not have Aperture installed on my computer anymore but I do have my old library.  Is there any way to extract the ORIGINAL image from the library without having Aperture installed?

I started using Aperture back when it first came out.  I really had no idea what I was doing when I set everything up.  I got a new computer but do not have my Aperture disc anymore but I do have my old library.  I can get into the library and find the pictures in the Preview and Thumbnails folders, but these obviously are not the original pictures.  The ones in the Preview folder are only 10% of the size of the original digial photo.  I want to know if there is any way to get or reconstruct the original picture using the files in the library without installing Aperture.

    Hi Refringgers,
Install the 30 day trial of Aperture. Open your Aperture Library, export the Masters and Versions.
Other than that I will make a strong recommendation not to muck within the Aperture library. Yes, you can find your photos in there, but if you ever decide to again use it may well be unable to be opened. The other thing is the photos are scattered around in a gazillion folders it would take a long time, of course depending on the number of photos, to retrieve them.
    Cordially,

  • Remote Disc not able to Install Aperture 2

How can I install Aperture 2 on my MacBook Air? I receive an error message saying that installation can not occur over a network connection. I understood that using Remote Disc with the MacBook Air (without a DVD/CD drive) would take care of this.

I installed Aperture 2 on my MacBook Air a few days ago (boxed UK educational package). I had no problem using Remote Disc. Making a disc image from the DVD and installing from the image also works.

  • I purchased and installed Aperture 3 but it is not on my Macbook Pro

Yesterday morning I purchased and instalaled Aperture 3.   I went through the process and answered questions like "Do you want to migrate your Iphoto library, etc., etc.  This morning when I opened my computer I could not find Aperture.  It was not in Applications...nor in Finder (Searching 'All my files."   I recieved an email confirming the 79.00 purchase.     I went back to the Mac App Store and tried to reinstalled but it is not an option - it just has a faded 'Installed' indicator.  Help!

I went back to the Mac App Store and tried to reinstalled but it is not an option - it just has a faded 'Installed' indicator
Allen is probably right, and calling Apple the solution, but this is puzzling - if the AppStore shows your Aperture version as installed, then the Application probably still is somewhere on your Mac. If it were gone completely, the AppStore should offer Aperture for downloading again.
Have you tried to open Aperture by double-clicking your Aperture Library? The Aperture Library probably is located in the default location in your "Pictures" folder.
Since your Spotlight search was not successful, have you tried to search your Mac for all Applications using the Finder's find, searching your whole computer?
Select your Computer in the Finder's sidebar and enter ⌘(cmd)-F
Set the "Kind" selector to "is Application"
This will list any Application currently on your computer.

P.S. You didn't mention it, since it is the obvious place to look first - but have you looked in the Trash?

  • Aperture 3.2.3, plug-ins will not install

Downloaded Nik Color Efex Pro 4, will not install. This also is happening with SmuginPro for Aperture (photo uploader for SmugMug websites).

I tried to recreate your problem:
    The smuginProInstaller says:
Currently SmuginProForAperture and SmuginForAperture cannot both be installed at the same time. This installer will remove SmuginForAperture as part of the install process.
If you remove SmuginProForAperture you will need to reinstall SmuginForAperture.
I let it remove SmugIn; message: the installation was successful. The plug-in started properly.
I downloaded the Installer from: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/aperture/smuginproforaperture.html
It is dated from: September 6, 2010 11:01 AM
I get as far as application support and dead end, there is no aperture sub-folder.
Just create the folder if it is not there - these installation folders are not there initially; they will be created, if you install something.
The Nik offers only a .dmg installer. Again, terminal window with code, end of story.
Can we see the code, please?
    Regards

    Hi there!
Yes, same problem too; I've already sent an email to apple support and just received a very vague and unpractical response with "call apple support in your country" as main advice. I've obviously emailed back stating that I need a clearer response and I don not have any intention to spend money calling for support when updates is a free tool. I do also believe this is a probem generated on Apple's end, I just wish they learned to say "sorry, it's us;  working on it!"

    Galdaplh,
What do you mean by "reverting to photo"?  "Revert" is not a function in Aperture so you must be talking about something else.
If you just performed the import of that many photos, Aperture will take some time to generate thumbnails.  You can see if it is doing this sort of thing by {Command}-{Shift}-0 to show the Activity window.
Once Aperture generates all its thumbnails, you will have nearly instantaneous access to much, much better thumbnails than Aperture uses immediately after importing photos.

    missanoshka,
if you select the MacOSXUpdCombo10.7.5.dmg file which you’d downloaded, and press ⌘i to Get Info on it, what information is shown for it under ▼ General: Size? My initial guess is that you could have an incomplete download of that file.

  • "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed..."

I realize my explanation of my problem is long-winded, so if you want a shortened version, here it is:
I've followed all the instructions trying nearly everything, and no matter what I do, iTunes gives me the error saying: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." My G5 iPod (60GB) works on two other computers (both without any music on them), so I assume there something wrong with my computer and not the iPod itself.
Now for the long-winded story of the last eight hours of my life...
I just got the Generation-5 iPod Video (60GB) a today and I'm having problems already. I followed the instructions and installed the iPod software and then plugged in my iPod (iTunes has been on my computer for a while now). I was expecting iTunes to open after plugging in the iPod, but my device manager only detected and installed "a new device". I manually opened iTunes and got an error saying: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
After re-installing the iPod software and iTunes, and restarting my computer countless times, I came looking for help here. I found this page, which seemed to outline my problem exactly. My computer recognizes the iPod as a drive, but iTunes won't have anything to do with it. I have all the symptoms outlined in the heading, so I hoped to solve my problem there. I followed the instructions step-by-step, and after the final restart, I open iTunes to get the same exact error message.
I decided to determine whether there was a problem with my iPod or if it was my computer. I plugged my iPod into my uncles's powerbook, and got to the point where I can name and configure my iPod. I expected it to work flawlessly on a Mac (which it did) but there is no way for me to continue using a Mac (after tomorrow) for my iPod. This formatted the iPod for a Mac, so I went to another (different from the original) Windows computer, clean of any iTunes and iPod software, and followed the instructions exactly as they're supposed to be followed. After the installations, I plugged in my iPod, and although iTunes didn't open, I was able to format back to Windows and name my iPod (a step in the right direction). I should note that my (anti-iPod) computer is a Windows XP Pro, and the working one is Windows XP Home Edition. This was all well and good, until I remembered there was no music on this computer. So my iPod is completely working there, but there isn't anything I can do with it.
Next, I came back here and browsed around the discussion boards, hoping to find somebody with a similar problem to mine. There seems to be alot of errors concerning iTunes not recognizing the iPod, but none of the solutions I tried worked for me, including changing the drive letter. I get the "iPod Service Error" while trying to restore to factory settings through iPod updater.
Of course, I could transfer all 32GB of music from one computer to another, but the second (working) computer isn't mine and I won't have access to it in a couple months. It would be most convenient if I could get my iPod working on my own computer. Any help would be appreciated, especially from somebody who has solved this problem or know how to solve this problem.
    P.S.
Here are some other minor details that my be important, but I didn't feel they were worth including.
    - My brother has his iPod mini set up on my computer, under a different user login. He gets the same error once in a while, but re-installing iTunes always solves the problem for him. I had him try solving my problem his way, but nothing worked for him either.
    - My computer is an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+, 512MB RAM with Windows XP Pro SP2 installed. My internal hard drive is partitioned, using the letters C, D and H (C being my system files, D used for recovery files and H for my applications and games). My E drive is used as a DVD/CD-ROM Drive, and drives F and G are reserved for virtual drives (none have been running during this entire ordeal). My external hard drive uses the letter I, and I manually set my iPod to use the letter J (I've never used 'J' for anything else before).
    - Yes, I have downloaded and installed the latest versions of iTunes and the iPod software.
    - I'm assuming there is a problem with my computer and not my iPod, since it worked on both other computers I tried. I'm hoping it's as simple as changing a registry file or cleaning out (yet another) temp directory.

Solution to "Software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed"!
I battled this same problem for about 5 hours. Going through re-installations, the "5 R's", all these discussion boards. Nothing worked.
The problem is that iPodService was repeatedly crashing after minute or so. You can verify this by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete and noting that iPodService is missing from the process list (sort by image name), or by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting "Manage", then going to Services and checking out the IPodService service - if it gives you the option to "Start", then it's not running.
    Here is what worked.
    1. De-install iTunes and iPod (if you have the updater installed) completely by going to Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs. Also delete the C:\Program Files\iTunes and c:\Progam Files\iPod\bin directories. (Don't worry, this doesn't affect your saved music files.)
    2. Log in as an Administrator
    3. Go into the registry (note this is dangerous - you should be careful) and remove the iPod entries that the uninstaller misses.
3.1 Go to Start menu --> Run.
    3.2 Type in "regedit".
    3.3 Go to HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodService.iPodManager.
There are two keys here, iPodManager and iPodManager.1. In my case, I did not have permission to view either of these. I think this is the root cause of the problem. I think the installer can't properly update these because it doesn't have permission. So you need to change the permissions:
    3.4 Right-click on IPodService.IPodManager
3.4.1 Select "Permissions..." A warning will appear saying you don't have permission, but that you can change permissions.
3.4.2 On the window that launches, click on "Advanced..."
3.4.3 Click on the "Owner" tab.
3.4.4 Select a valid account (the one you're logged in under) under "Change Owner To".
    3.4.5 Hit "OK".
3.4.6 Back on the main Permissions window, hit Add and add the same account as a valid user.
3.4.6.1 Where it says "Enter the object names to select", type in the account name, e.g. "Smith".
3.4.7 Click on the "Allow" checkboxes for "Full Control" and "Read".
    3.4.8 Hit "OK".
3.5 Repeat procedure for the "iPodManager.1" key.
3.6 Now right-click and delete both of these keys.
I think that's all that's required, but I also searched through the registry and deleted the following keys.
    4. Other keys I deleted:
    4.1 HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodManager.IPodManagerUI.1
4.2 HKEYLOCALMACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Apple Computer Inc. --> iPod
I think that's all I deleted, but I'm not positive. I seached for instances of "ipod" using the Find... and Find Next functions under the Edit menu.
    5. Exit out of the registry editor.
    6. Re-install iTunes. I re-installed iTunes and reconnected the iPod, and everything worked.
I want to repeat that editing the registry can completely mess up your computer if you modify the wrong things, so only do this if you're comfortable, and be extremely careful.
    Hopefully this helps!
Apple support people: assuming this works, please add it to your solutions page, and feel free to reimburse me for spending half of Christmas figuring this out.

  • How can I install Aperture on my new Macbook Pro. I am up to date with my Mac Pro, I have the Aperture 1 and installation disks but cant remember how I got to 3. Can anyone help?  Many thanks regards Alf

I have an up to date version of Aperture on my Mac Pro, and I would like to install it on my new Mac book Pro. I have the original installation disks for Aperture 1 and 2. I cant remember how I got to Aperture 3, I think it was via a web download but not sure. I have checked my purchases in the App Store but there is no indication of me buying an upgrade to Aperture 3.
Ive tried to download it from the App Store but it wants me to pay again.
Can anyone help on how to install Aperture 3 on my new Macbook .
    Many thanks regards  Alf

Then you can download the Trial version of Aperture 3 and unlock it with your serial numbers - you will need all three for all three versions: A current link to the Trial version is in this support document, also instructions on how to reinstall on different systems:
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating

BTW: Your Aperture 3 serial number will be displayed in the "About" panel - the panel you see, when you use the command "About Aperture" from the Aperture menu in the main menu bar.

  • Can not update aperture 3.1, wrong app store account

I have recently upgraded to Mavericks, and now can not open Aperture, version 3.1.
I tried upgrading to version 3.5, but the app store says I have the wrong apple account for this app.  I only have one Apple account, and all other applications upgrade successfully with it.
Aperture was purchased in a box in version two some years ago, and has been upgreaded a few times, by downloading the upgrade and installing.
I have also moved to a new Mac Pro since the last time I upgraded.
I can find no way to upgrade Aperture, and can no longer use it.  It's essential, I'm a photographer.
    Kind Regards,
    Michael Hund

    Micheal,
you can download updaters for all versions, but Aperture 3.5.  But the manual upgrade should enable you to upgrade to a version that will run with Mavericks at least, even if it will not let you upgrade to 3.5.
On my laptop at home I have Aperture 3.4.5 already
Does Aperture 3.4.5 run with Mavericks, and can you at least open your Aperture library and continue to use Aperture?
The update to Aperture 3.5 is handled very differently from all other updates. What Apple is doing, is transferring your Aperture registration key to an AppStore licence bound to your AppleID.
If you cannot update and get a warning, that your Aperture is tied to a different account, could mean, that there is a problem with your Aperture serial number. I suspect, if someone else had used your serial number to activate Aperture and upgraded it at the AppStore, you cannot use the same serial number again with your own AppleID. Compare the serial number you are seeing in Aperture's "About Aperture" panel with the ones on your Aperture upgrade boxes.  And make sure, that you are signed into the App Store with the same Apple ID on all your Macs, when you are trying the update.
if there should be a problem with the registration code, contact Apple and ask for a replacement serial number:  Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers
Another frequent problem with upgrading Aperture is, that it only seems to be possible, if your main system language is set to "English". Try to set it temporarily to English, while trying to upgrade.

Are yoy sure that Apeture is not in the Applications folder of the new system? If it is move it to the trash and the App Store will let you download Aperture from it.
You will need to make sure you use the same Apple ID you used to purchase it in the past.
