Applet viewer / mozills / netscape6 hang from time to time

hi list!
we are using a 3 tier setup
(db <--> forms server <--> client with appletviewer)
the database server runs on solaris, the forms server and the clients are running debian stable (woody) (clients use j2sdk1.3)
the forms server is version 9.2. from time to time the applet viewer (or mozilla or netscape; doesnt matter) just hang. from time to time here means like 4 times in the last 2 weeks. the progress indicator in the right lower corner moves from side to side but nothing happens, the gui doesnt get updated anymore and i have to kill the task and any uncommited info is lost :((( . in the server logs i can find this:

Possible causes include a network failure or client termination
well, i know that its not a hardware prob since with a 8i client installed everything works perfectly.
i have also tried to use j2sdk1.4 from sun.com but the appletviewer from this version behaves very strangely and keyboard input is often being misinterpreted.
what is considered the most stable client setup for linux clients?
am i overseeing something?
do i have to make any special configuration on the clients?

QuickTime and MPEG-4 movie files that end in ".mov", ".m4v", or ".mp4" and are playable in QuickTime Player.

Every time I open FF, the "Getting Started with Mozilla Firefox" tab opens. I have checked and it's not in my homepage list.
If I open any additional windows, it doesn't open.
But, once I close all of them and reopen it again, the tab opens.

about:config is typed into the address bar as if you were going to a web page.

After installing Adobe Flash Player Plugin to view videos on youtube, mozilla gets hangs intermittently. Please help

I installed Firefox 23.0.1 and after that It asked me to install Flash Player Plugin to view videos on Youtbe. I installed Flash Player 11 Plugin and since then Mozilla started hanging/freezing intermittently. It hangs on those websites also where videos are not running.
I uninstalled Flash Player 11 Plugin and it works smoothly without it.

This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common reasons for Flash problems in Firefox:
(1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.
(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

WF table overview is diff from applet view

Hi,
Here is the issue. When i checked my SC approval, it shows in Table view, Awaiting approval at 2nd level. Where as in applet view, it displays both 1st and 2nd levels as approved. How come i am getting 2 diff status?
I guess its a bug.. Did anyone come across this scenario?

This note comes with SAPKIBK011 and we are already on this pack. But still we are getting tabular view diff from applet view.
Most of the time, table view happens to be correct..
Wondering why applet preview is not reflecting the current wf status.
Appreciate any inputs/clues.

View more than one sheet at a time from the same file?

I'm trying to view two different sheets at the same time from one file. This was possible in excel by opening a "new" window. Does anyone know how to do this in numbers?

You know what: Happily, _*Numbers is definitively not a clone of Excel*_ !
It's not forced to duplicate every features of this program !
We may see every tables of a given sheet
but we can't see tables of two sheets simultaneously.
This feature is very important because it's linked to
the one which allow us to have different orientation for different sheets.

Qosmio X500/Win7(64 bit) hangs from time to time

I have this strange issue - my brand new computer just hangs from time to time and the only way to resolve this is to turn it off and then back on. I've tried everything like updating the drivers and etc but nothing helps.
Please give me at least few ideas how I can at least spot the real problem.

I did not do anything unusual - no fancy games or applications. One time I just use the chrome browser, another time it was right after I closed the windows game "hearts", another case was right after I "wake-up"the computer from sleep mode. It usually freeze the monitor for a second or two and then it either resume normally of hang forever.
I was thinking that this may be caused by the graphic card (because once I received an warning that the graphic card stopped responding and then resumed) and I tried to update with the latest driver from NVidia but after the update I start getting messages "can't start directX" on different applications so I had to revert the driver.
I am also using dynadock DVI - maybe this is the cause but if it is then why it happens also when I resume the computer from sleep?
I don't use any antivirus - I use microsoft essential.
Anyway if anyone can help to at least spot the real cause I will be grateful forever because this is became my nightmare.

Access denied on applet in broswer - fine in applet viewer

I have written an applet that access a php file and sends a post message. I have tested the applet with the applet viewer and it succeeds each time. When I put the applet on a web page I get the following error:

1. Why does it work from the applet viewer and not
the webpage.Appletviewer is in effect a Java application so it runs using the Java application security manager which by default gives an application almost unlimited access to the machine it runs on.
Running an Applet from a Web page runs the Applet constrained by the Applet security manager. By default, the Applet security manager assumes that anything that is downloaded from the web is untrusted so severely limits what an Applet can do. A signed Applet is assumed to be trusted if the certificate chain points back to one of the certificate roots such as Verisign.
You can use self signing for test purposes and then a client will be asked whether or not he trusts the Applet.

Runtime error in Applet only appears when running through IDE applet viewer

Netbeans 4.1
Linux (Suse 9.3)
I only started getting this error when I set the data loading and initialization classes into a separate thread. (the data loading and init is currently just using dummy test data within the class, nothing is loaded from external files as of yet)

No. You will get an exception for the problem I discussed. The problem you have suggests either something else is wrong or you are eating an exception and then attempting to continue.
And secondly, what is a reasonably safe (and yet free!) method to deal with this? Is there a way to handle through java.policy or should I sign the applet? I've never worked with signed applets...but I can certainly start reading up on the topic...Signing the applet is easier in terms of distribution. Policy change is quicker if you are just messing around or if you have a very limited distribution target.

Examples: Freezes for about 20 seconds every launch. Freezes quiting. Freezes switching tabs. Freezes clicking links.

Note that such issues can be caused by security software that blocks Firefox and possibly isn't initialized when you get (got) this issue.
So if it happens again then try to remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Viewing multiple camera angles at the same time

Hello -
Basic question, that I'm sure has been answered many times before - so apologies for the repeat!
I have been asked to take over editing some shows and gigs, which are filmed from up to four different camera angles. Each operator starts their camera, then runs it for the whole performance - so you end up with four long clips of video. The guy I am taking over from tells me that once you've got the four clips correctly aligned, it's actually a relatively simple job IF you can view all four clips at the same time. I basically need to be able to watch the whole show from start to finish, watching all four angles at the same time and doing a rough edit as I go, then go back and neaten things up.
1. Will Final Cut Express do this?
2. If the program can do it, am I right in thinking my iMac might be a bit underpowered?
As you can probably tell, I'm not at all down with the lingo on video editing, so I hope my question makes sense!

I do this in a slightly different way.
Videos on one track each
Re-sized to 25% as Tom describes
Moved to sync.
Then I don't use the blade tool - BUT adjust transparicy. So that needed angle get 100%
rest goes to 0%
Finalicing by re-sizing all back to 100%
Done
BUT if You can finance it - THIS is much easier to be done in FCP when getting the hang of
how it works here. Much more like a Real-Time editing situation - Click on the view You like
You don't even need to be very excat - Easily fixed with "roll tool" (I think it's named)
If Time is of essence and mony not - FinalCut Pro about 10 times faser to me
If other way around ==> FCE

Writing an Applet Viewer?

I'm not sure why I'm interested in writing an applet viewer, I just thought it would be a nice project. Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone knows on how to tackle this. I've tried a little experimenting but everytime I call the applet init() method from my c++ program, it always crashes. I've tried to debug the problem in a external debugger but I can't seem to know why it's happening. If anyone can help direct me such as what I'll need to learn, what steps I need to take, etc, that'll be excellent. Thanks for your time.

Crashes mean pointer problems.
Are you verifying every single JNI call with error checking as appropriate?

ICal print in weekly view doesn't begin from monday but tuesday

I faced a problem while trying to print a weekly view of my calendars. Even though I have adjusted the calendar in the setting so that the week starts from monday, every time I try to print a weekly view of my calendars, the weekly view is is alway for the dates Tuesday - Monday, NOT Monday - Sunday. I tried choosing in the printing view that the printing would start from the date 27th of october (monday), but instead, the first date on output was always Tuesday (28th). The same happened when i chose that area printed starts from next week - it starts it again from Tuesday not Monday.
Any help for this?

Read from text file: time to number

Ok short question. I've been using labview for logging data to a text file. I made it comma separated and looks like this:
absolute time, relative time (since start exp), channel 1 data, channel 2 data.
Well, I can sucessfully read from textfile and I'd like the user to be able to view data on a graph.
Problem is, the 2 columns with the time are not correctly changed to numbers, this might have to do with how I saved them:
I used format date/time string to save time, and used ":" between hours and seconds.
So my question: How do I solve this? Can I convert this string to a correct time and date for graphing, or how should I change logging so it
can be converted to a number.
