Applet works with IE8 but aborts with Firefox 3.6.3

This link starts an Applet (a funny St.Valentine's one) that works perfect with IE8. Same link does some initial steps from Firefox 3.6.3 but aborts. Looking into Java Console it errors with ... but as I said, it works PERFECT with IE8!!!
What's the problem with Firefox?
Of course, Applets are activated in my Firefox:
Tools/Add-ons/Plugins/JavaPlatform ... 6.0.200.2
Note: Other Applets of my own work fine, as expected.

Sorry, but I don't know why my previous post OMMITTED the linkand the error I was providing!
The link I mentioned was:
[http://www.chezmaya.com/applet/valentin.htm St.Valentine'Applet]
and the error I've seen in the Java Console:
Uncaught exception: string contains an invalid character
BUT it works with IE8 and aborts with Firefox!

  • Java Applets not working with Firefox 5 properly

Java Applets work sometime. But after sometime the Java icon at the bottom (near date & time) disappears. After this no matter what I do it does not work. Java Applets are used in this case to draw charts. The same charts come out properly in Internet Explorer. But I prefer using Firefox for its speed. What is the reason for this problem ?

-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
    -> Update ALL your Firefox Plug-ins https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted toolbars
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> ''Firefox will: '''select "Remember History"'''''
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
-> Click OK on Options window
-> click the Favicon (small drop down menu icon) on Firefox SearchBar (its position is on the Right side of the Address Bar) -> click "Manage Search Engines" -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click Remove -> click OK
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working.

  • I have Firefox 5.0.1, and a theme I want to download says that it works with Firefox 4.0b9pre - 7.0a1, but at the top it says that it is not available for my platform. What do I do?

I just downloaded Firefox 5.0.1, and one of the themes I want to download and try out says that it works with Firefox 4.0b9pre - 7.0a1. At the top, though, it says that the theme is not available for my platform. It has happened with some other themes as well, but I didn't check what versions they work with. I don't know what this means or what to do about it. The theme is at this link: https://addons.mozilla.org/z/en-US/firefox/addon/bloomind-ft-deepdark-2/

    It says:
<blockquote>"Bloomind FT DeepDark 2" is a theme that has been created to transform the look of Firefox 4 for <b>Windows</b> users. It has been specially designed for Seven, but rendering is relatively accurate on XP and Linux (<b>I can t test it on MAC</b>, but for those who would like to try it anyway on that platform, <u>you can force download and install it</u>).</blockquote>
So try to save that file via the right-click context menu.

  • The "new" hotmail no longer works with safari, but works with firefox. Hmm.

The "new" hotmail no longer works with safari, but works with firefox. Hmm. i find this very convenient being a microsoft product. anybody else wonder why this new version happens to not be safari compatible? does anybody know if it works on the PC version of safari? if not, i find this to be a blatant move on microsofts part to bias the safari browser (especially since its basicly new on the window platform). forcing safari/hotmail users to "have" to use another browser to access their hotmail accounts.

I have been successfully using Hotmail and Gmail with Safari for a long time. For roughly the past month, that relationship is rocky at best. At times, one of the following actions suddenly opens Hotmail, but it is a short-lived solution:
    (a) Hotmail directly
    (b) Hotmail Home>Hotmail
    (c) Sign up to Windows Hotmail
    (d) Deletion of prescribed cookies, resetting, etc. - made no difference
Both Firefox and Opera work fine with Hotmail - especially Opera is very fast.
In addition, Safari and Gmail does not work with Attachments, but otherwise Gmail is OK.
I suspect I have to wait for a Safari fix because in my case I do not wish to abandon Hotmail, and Safari is a given. I would think that Safari would want to stay competitive with the two biggies, Hotmail and Gmail, which must have large numbers of users.
I certainly would appreciate any other suggested fixes.

  • I was using Internet Explorer but now have disabled it in preference to Firefox. But my Press Reader program by Newspaper Direct will not access the internet and display the paper. Their web site says it works with Firefox

Under connection options in Press Reader I have three options. Use IE proxy settings; don't use proxy; Use custom proxy settings. I have tried all three and still cannot get a direct internet connection with Press Reader. The Press Reader site says it works with Firefox 2 and above. I am using Firefox 5.0. I can still go to my newspaper site and read the paper but I just can do it via Press Reader and therefore I can not download it for later reading.

I notice that the home page redirects to a secure (HTTPS) address. I wonder whether there is a setting blocking this? What if you go directly to a secure page -- will it load?

Your add-ons list shows AVG, ZoneAlarm, and McAfee products. Could one of them be blocking this site? See whether you can add exceptions or just disable them temporarily and test whether that helps.

  • Hi, I turning standby My computer at work. With one opened firefox browser and few opened pages. Turning on at home to continue my work with firefox. But firefox do nothing. It is like no internet connection. Explorer works but don't want to use.....

    Cheers for every Idea!

    Hi!
I'm not 100% sure what are you trying to achieve or what's the issue, but I will try.
It seems that you want to work with Firefox at your home computer while your work computer is on. I'm not sure if you want to use the information from your work computer or not. If so, you should look at Firefox Sync: [[What is Firefox Sync?]]
If the only thing you want is to open and use Firefox but not use the information that your work computer has, your issue is about the connection. I will invite you to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox (www.mozilla.org/firefox) and try [[Safe Mode]] if that helps.

There was a link to a site which had a version of Foxtab (1.4.5) which actually WORKS with Firefox 5. I can't find it now, so if someone knows of this link, I would appreciate getting it.

  • Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox?

    Windows 7 64-bit
Mozilla Firefox 17.0.1 (Latest as of this time of writing)
Java 7 Update 10 (Runtime Edition)
    Java 7 Update 10 (Runtime Edition) 64-bit
It used to work before I updated it to the latest version of Java.
I tried reinstalling everything with a clean registry but none has worked.
The problem is that "Java(TM) Platform" is missing from the plug-in list. When I run Java content in my Firefox it gives an error saying "Missing content...".
Works perfectly with Internet Explorer and the 64-bit version.
Any thoughts on how to make this new update work with Firefox?

The problem is, that some registry kexy are missing.
These keys here works for JRE (32 bit) on Win 7 (64 bit), installed in the standard path.
Just add them after the installation of the JRE 7u10 and the Firefox plugin will work.

  • I am an online professor using Blackboard 9.1. Bb only works with Firefox 3.6 so I need to prevent Firefox from automatically updating. How do I stop the harassing update popups?

  • Is there a way to download Firefox 4 without going on a 3rd party site? Many of my addons do not work with Firefox 5 and 6.

Quite a few of my addons don't work with firefox 6, and I would prefer to keep them, but my pc crashed and I had to reformat. I don't want to have to go on a 3rd party site, since they could easily put a virus on my pc. I couldn't find anywhere to download it on the site.

  • Flash Player 11.3.300.262 Not working with Firefox. I think I found the problem.

*Flash Player 11.3.300.262 is not working with Firefox. I think I found the problem.*
Millions of people got off work & turned on there computers recently to discover that Firefox is not playing any videos or flash content. Just like me, millions of people are randomly searching the internet in a futile & frustrating attempt at answers. Unfortunately, many of those people will simply stop using firefox & deem it a glitchy, unreliable browser.
This happened to me a couple days ago. I started up my computer & got a pop-up from Adobe saying that I need to update my flash player to 11.3.300.262. I've always thought of adobe as being a reliable software company, so I clicked on it with confidence that things will be working even smoother. To my horror, I relalized that right after the update, my main browser, firefox was destroyed. Then I went on the frustrating process of uninstalling, re-installing, running virus scan, researching the internet like a lost child. I said to myself, "that's why I hate updating stuff, because updates always seem to change stuff you don't want it to change & there always seems to be a problem with the updates." I usualy update software months after it releases, because microsoft & all the other software companies always seem not to test there stuff properly before releasing them. Then we have to look at a glitchy computer until the next update fixes it. Well, that is my rant. Now let me discuss the problem I found.
    Problem:
What I did was, go into my firefox extentions menu & I disabled the 11.3.300.262 & I re-enabled the previous flash player. After that, everything worked perfect again. Then a today (a week later), I turned on my computer & my firefox wasn't playing any videos or flash content again. I went into my firefox extenions menu again, & I discovered that my old flash player had been deleted, & this new glitchy 11.3.300.262 had been enabled. Why did adobe feel the need to into my computer & automaticly delete & update my flash player. Now it doesn't work. THIS IS REALY FRUSTRATING!
    The Issue I discovered:
"RealPlayer" is the most popular video program & it is installed on millions of computers. For some strange reason Firefox does not want its users to use Real Player. Specifically the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin 15.0.2. I also discovered that my Browser Record Plugin 15.0.2 was automatically disabled when the Adobe 11.3.300.262 was automatically updated also.
    - Maybe this could be because of some copyright conspiracy to keep people from downloading videos from the web.
    - Maybe firefox wants people to use there download add-on instead of RealPlayers downloader.
I don't know what ther reason is. But what I do know is Nobody is going to delete there RealPlayer from there computer just to use FireFox. We can simply use Chrome or Internet explorer. I took the advise from Adobe & disabled the FireFox RealPlayer Extention. I also went into my RealPlayer preferences options, But there was no option to disable download recording from FireFox. BECAUSE I ALREADY DISABLED THE ADD-ON in FireFoxes menu.
    Solution:
Step 1: Adobe needs to update all the computers with the previous flash player. That way we can choose to enable the previous flash player in our FireFox. or wait until a new update fixes the problem with firefox.
Step 2: Adobe & FireFox need to get together & go back to the drawing board. They need to create a update that actually works on computers that have Real Player installed on them. I don't care which company does the update. All I care about is if it works. Thank You.
Oh yea, Im running FireFox 13.0.1, Windows 7, HP computer, Real Player is up to date.

    Hey Chris,
I was able to duplicate this issue on my Windows 7 laptop as follows:
         1)  Completely uninstall FlashPlayer (using your tool) as well as Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Maintenance Service (used Windows 7 - uninstall from Control Panel).  Please note that I checked the box that said "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations" to ensure that Firefox was completely gone from my laptop.
         2)  I then went out to the Firefox website and downloaded the "Firefox Setup 13.0.1.exe" app to my laptop.  I ran this app to install Firefox.
         3)  I then went to the following website http://www.ishmael.org.uk/karaoke02.php as I know that this URL uses Flash Player (obviously you can go to any URL that uses Flash Player - I'm just letting you know which one I used).  I then clicked on the icon on this page to install Flash Player.
Once the install was completed, the URL stops responding and appears to be locked up (although it will occassionally hiccup and display portions of the page and then lock up again).  You will eventually get a pop-up notice from Firefox that has the header "Warning:  Unresponsive script" and says the following:
A script on this page may be busy or it may have stopped responding.  You can stop the script now, or you can continue to to see of the script will complete.  Script:  chrome://browser/content/browser.js:6551
Selecting "Stop script" will get Firefox working until you hit another page that uses Flash Player.
To ensure that the above URL is not the culprit, I used one from your website http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html and had the same results.
    Hope this info helps!
    Jeff
NOTE:  As a reminder, I do not have RealPlayer installed on my laptop (and never have had it installed)

When I login to my MobileMe account I have two buttons on the top right of the page: Preferences and My Account name.
Both I can select but when I do I cannot press either one of the menu entries that show. So I cannot change anything or create folders in iDisk for instance. All did work on Firefox version 3.6. It also works on Safari.
What settings do I have wrong? I like Firefox more than Safari.

  • Java 7 Update 11 Not Working with Firefox

For me, the problems described in the thread "Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox? " Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox?
are continuing with Java 7 Update 11.
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Firefox 18
The problem is that "Java(TM) Platform" is missing from the plug-in list.
I've uninstalled Java 7 Update 11 and reinstalled Java Update 9 which correctly installs the plugin and restores Java functionality which was broken immediately upon installing both Java 10 & 11.

So why not using Ju11 ? You can workaround the issue. It would sucks but still be safer than using Ju9.
Also ask Mozilla forums if Firefox has options where to search for plugins.
Or try 64-bit Firefox. As I explained in both threads ...
Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox?
Java 7 Update 11 Not Working with Firefox
... neither jre7u10 nor jre7u11 are working ... and they are BOTH broken with the same problem ... "Java(TM) Platform" pliugin is missing from the plug-in list. It cannot be enabled, because it simply is NOT there. A suggestion was made the jre7u12 will be the "fix" for this issue ... so I installed the Update 12 Preview and it sis ALSO broken, no "Java(TM) Platform" in the plug-in list.
The ONLY Java version that actually works for me is jre7u9.
As far as installing Firefox 64bit ... I see no future in installing a browser that has been discontinued.
