  • Java 1.1.5 applets don't run in Netscape 6.1/6.2

    I try to access a website with java-applets.
    With Netscape 4.7x it's no problem. Java-Console says "Java 1.1.5". No java-plugin's installed.
    With IE 5.x and 6 no problem.
    Java Virtual Machine Build 3234 is installad
    Systems NT4.0 and Win2000
    With Netscape 6.1 and 6.2 those applets don't run (there is only a grey-area open where the applet should build up the content). I've seen there are couple of java-plugin's loaded in the Netscape 6 (NPOJI600.dll, NPJava130_01.dll, NPJava130_01a.dll, NPJava130_01b.dll and NPJava130_01c). As an idea I temporarly deleted them in the hope it would use JVM, as I suppose happens in Netscape 4.7x, were no java-plugin's are installed. But unfortunately it doesn't work either. It looks like Netscape 6.x can not refer to those java-components that the Netscape 4.7x uses.
    Can I get somewhere the missing old plugin (1.1.5) or is there another way to make it work?
    My search in java.sun.com told me that there seems to be no java 1.1.5 at all, so how can
    Netscape talk about 1.1.5?
    Thanks for any help....
    Peter
    PS) I have no experience in Java at all.

    Hello,
    If you look at the release notes of Netscape they mention that Netscape 6.x will not run Java codes unless there 1.3.0_01 and above
    Sometime you wonder where they get these ideas, that means that if you have an old applet it won't run with the new browser. I guess they never heard about backward compatibility

  • Swing based applets don't run in browser !!!

    whenever i run a swing based applet from the browser (IE 5), the applet is not displayed in it - status bar shows that the class file was not found
    so please tell me the solution
    thanx in advance!

    You just have to download Sun JVM to run swing JApplet in your browser(IE).
    get it at the following address:
    Just follow the link, and download dialog will be appeared just save the file to you hard drive, and install the software.
    The file name will be : "j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586-i.exe"
    http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=7544
    after successfull installation you'll find the new plugin
    "java2 v1.4.1_02 for<applets>"
    in Tools>InternetOptions>Advance
    you have to check it(if unchecked) to enable the JApplet to be loaded in your browser.
    Another new option you'll find in your Tools menu "Sun Java Console". From it you can find what exceptions are thrown while the applet is loaded

  • Applets which don't run

    Hello,
    I have any applets which run with Appletviewer or the development tool "Forte for Java" but they don't run on the web browser whereas I have others applets (with almost the same code) which run in the both cases.
    In fact, on the web browser, you can see the static components (buttons, choices...) but these ones have no effects.
    And, the access to the database seems not to run.
    I think it's an problem which doesn't come from the code but I don't know what.
    Can you help me ?
    Thank you.

    Browsers have in-built support for JDK 1.1 If you are using packages not suported by JDK1.1 for example Swing, the applets won't work without downloading a plugin. The first thing you should do is check if you are using packages not suported by the JDK1.1 Also check if your browser does use a plugin.
    You can download the plugin from this site:
    http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html
    When you are downloading the plugin you can specify that it is used by your browser by default. This means that you do not have to modify your HTML file.
    The following is relevant if you intend to put your applet up on the web:
    The user may not have their browser set up to automatically use a plugin. This means that you may need to convert your HTML file so that the plugin is used to run the applet and it works corrrectly for different browsers. Also if the user does not have the correct plugin your web page prompts them to download it.
    This site explains how the HTML code is modified:
    http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.2/docs/tags.html
    There is a way to do this conversion process automatically - by using the HTMLConverter in the bin directory of your JDK. The following site gives directions on how to use it:
    http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/docs/htmlconv_01.html
    If you are putting the applet up on the web maybe you should consider rewriting it so that it only uses packages supported by the JDK1.1 That way the user will automatically be able to view the applet without downloading any plugin and you will not need to convert the HTML file.
    I hope this helps,

  • How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed

    Hello, we are trying to accomplish the same thing that is mentioned in this post from Metalink. I've searched for a solution and hope someone here can help. Instead of restating the issue I think David Wilson does a good job of explaining what is needed. Can anyone please suggest a possible solution?

    How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed
    Hi,
    We run an oracle 10g forms application through 9iAS over an intranet. All users are running windows 2000 professional.
    We run separate frame = true but I would like to switch to separate frame = false
    With separate frame = true if the user clicks the outer windows "X" close button (forms mdi window) the user is prompted to save changes before the application ends.
    BUT
    when using separate frame = false
    If the user clicks the upper window "X" button (no longer form mdi window but regular browser window) the window and application is abruptly closed.
    I'm interested in using a onbeforeunload function to confirm if the user wants to close the window. This would be placed in the basejini.htm file. This could always ask if the user wants to exit or not. If they click OK then the window closes but if they click "Cancel" you are returned to the forms application exactly where you left. something like event.returnvalue="do you really want to exit?";
    However if the user exited using the normal exit form method then the applet is already closed before the onbeforeunoad event fires and there is nothing to go back to and I want the window to close automatically. This is accomplished using close.html file in post forms trigger.
    So what I want and what I think many may also want is the check if the embedded applet is still running and if so prompt the user to return to the application or continue to close. Of course If the applet is no longer running then just close because there is no reason confirm closing anymore.
    Does anyone have a html/JavaScript solution that can be placed in the jinitiator.htm file? or similar?
    Thank you
    David

    I don't know if this is exactly what you are after but you can add the following to the top of your basejini.htm file and it should prompt the user before exiting the IE window.
    <BODY %HTMLbodyAttrs%>
    %HTMLbeforeForm%
    <SCRIPT>
    <!--
    window.onbeforeunload = unloadApplet;
    function unloadApplet(){
    message = "Warning! Please exit the Java Applet prior to
    exiting the browser"
    return message;
    //-->

    Well I could not understand your complete requirement.
    Refer to Note.201481.1 How to Close the Browser Window When Closing Forms And How to Simulate SeparateFrame By Javascript

    Kind Regards,

    Subject: Re : How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed
    Thank you for your reply and yes you did not understand my question fully.
    Sorry if this is a long reply
    I am able to close the browser window using information in notes 115905.1 and 201481.1, this is not the issue. We implemented this several years ago. It is workable for both separate frame = true or false.
    It is most important to not allow the user to end their forms application by closing the windows browser, they must close using normal form exit commands.
    What I want is to have separate frame = false, the big drawback to this option is the user can exit the application and bypass all forms code by pressing the windows "X" close button. This is why we need the code as just provided by Andrew Lenton above in this thread.
    BUT Andrew's code will always prompt the user before closing the window and I do not want that. I want the user to be prompted only under scenario 2 listed below.
    Here's the 2 case scenario for exiting the application.
    1. If the user closes properly and uses exit form which fires all normal form triggers including post_form with it's call to close.html file.
    All uncommitted changes are saved or rollback and the users session is ended normally both on the database and in the application server.
    All browser windows will close, great all is good. And without Andrew's code the window will close but with Andrew's code the user will be prompted to close or not, if they select Cancel the window will remain but the applet has already ended so why prompt? ...This is what I want to avoid.
    2. In the forms app. if the user clicks the windows "X" close button with uncommitted changes. The browser just closes the changes are rollback without prompting the user to save. The users sessions are now lost and still running in the database and application server until they are timed out.
    If I use Andrew's code then the user will be prompted to continue to close or go back, if they click Cancel to go back then focus returns to the forms application and the user can continue to work. If the user clicks OK then the window closes and unfortunately their sessions are still lost until timed out.
    So what I desire is to add to Andrew's code to check if the embedded applet is still running and prompt the user to close or not accordingly.
    Something like:
    Basejini.htm like
    </HEAD>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    function maximizeWindow()
    window.moveTo(0,0);
    window.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);
    function confirm(){
    If(document.embeddedapplet.closed())
    Win.opener = self;
    win.close();
    Else if
    event.returnValue = "Closing Forms Application. OK to continue?";
    </SCRIPT>
    <BODY %HTMLbodyAttrs%, onload="maximizeWindow()", onbeforeunload="confirm()">
    %HTMLbeforeForm%
    I hope this explains my requirements.

    I'm sorry this is not helpful at all.
    Note 199928.1 is only an alert which does not stop the closing of the window and still displays as an alert if the user does close properly using exit form ... so why would you want to display the alert then?
    This is exaclty what I do not want and why I want to determine if the applet is still running before displaying any kind of message.

    Closing thread.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    I had the same issue last year - wanting to provide a warning on closing the browser, but only if the Forms session is still running. The approach I took is described below, see also the thread where I originally posted this at Closing brower window
    Hi there,I've had a similar requirement - or rather, the two conflicting requirements: to warn when the browser is being closed, but for the app to be able to close the browser without a warning being fired.
    To always provide a warning when someone (the user or the Forms app) tries to go to a different page (e.g. your close.htm), use Javascript like:
    function confirmExit(){
    if(appletRunning==true) {
    msg="Closing this window or navigating to another page will end your SomeGreatApp session.";
    window.event.returnValue=msg;
    And make a call to confirmExit() in the onBeforeUnload event of your main page.
    You'll notice I first check an 'appletRunning' variable before displaying the warning. This Javascript variable is set to true by my app when it starts up, using an embedded Javabean that calls out to Javascript. Once that variable is set to true, then the warning will be displayed if the user tries to shut the browser by clicking on the 'x' button, or to go to a different URL.
    When my app is shutting down, it uses the same Javabean to set appletRunning back to false. It then navigates to a close.htm - which will be done without a warning being displayed.
    See Re: How can a Javabean call Javascript function of the basejpi.html?? for example code on how to call Javascript from a bean embedded in your Forms app.
    Hope these ideas help you out, it's worked for me (so far, anyway!!)

  • Applets don't see each other when having certain jar files as archive

    Hi,
    I have read a nice solution for Applet2Applet communication when they are on different html pages (different frames or windows) at http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/javatips/jw-javatip101.html.
    They see each other through a static AppletManager.The idea is working it is really good.
    But when I add a certain jar file to the archive parameter they don't see each other any more. Even more the static initializer of the AppletManager class runs twice. I have also noticed that the ClassLoader of the two applet is different:
    LeftApplet: ClassLoader: sun.plugin.security.PluginClassLoader@10a6ae2
    RightApplet: ClassLoader: sun.plugin.security.PluginClassLoader@13adc56
    If I remove that particular jar from the archive parameter they are the same:
    LeftApplet: ClassLoader: sun.plugin.security.PluginClassLoader@13adc56
    RightApplet: ClassLoader: sun.plugin.security.PluginClassLoader@13adc56
    and the two applets can communicate again.
    And here comes the fun the two applet doesn't use anything from that jar package...
    I would appreciate any help, or link where I could go on whit this issue.
    Attila

    If the jar lists are not identical in each Applet, different classloaders are used:
    archive = "a.jar,b.jar,c.jar" in Applet A, means that in Applet B you must have archive = "a.jar,b.jar,c.jar" or a separate class loader will be used. Do this even if your applets don't use any classes in an included jar.

  • Applet won't run in Internet Explorer

    I am having problems running applets that I create. They don't run in Internet Explorer. Other applets will run in the browser but it seems to use the Microsoft VM, not the JVM from Sun. The Mozilla Firefox browser will run all applets using the JVM from Sun.

    to api00
    If you cannot see an entry in IE Tools menu named Sun Java Console and open it , then do the following.
    1.Open Windows' Control Panel and look for an entry "Java Plug-in".
    - If it's not there, go here http://java.com/en/index.jsp and click the "Get It Now" button to install the Java Plug-in.
    - If it's there, click it, and then the Browser tab. Make sure that "Internet Explorer" is checked, then close all instances of IE. Go to this page and try one of the applets: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/relnotes/demos.html
    2. If that doesn't resolve the problem, remove ALL Sun Java stuff that you can find - check directories and the Registry - and do a clean install of Java.
    to twinkietwin
    Question 1: It appears that you typed the error text in your message #8, because there are capitalization and spelling problems that do not exactly match the errors that Java produces. Is this the case? If so please cut and paste the verbatim text of the errors from the window that appears when you click on the "More Details" button of the "Error - Java General Exception" box. (The EXACT and TOTAL error test is important.)
    It appears that the applet is attempting to acquire the value of some variables from the HTML code that calls the applet, but for some reason it cannot find the HTML file named "example1.htm" that contains the variables. One possibility is that there is a file on your computer named either example1.htm or example1.html that is being found first. Check your machine for files with one of these names; if found, temporarily rename it to something else and try the Sun BarChart applet from the demo page again.

  • Applet doesn't run with Tomcat - please help!

    Hello!
    I have a problem with running an applet in Eclipse IDE, using J2EE and a Dynamic Web Project and a Tomcat server.
    The directory structure is:
    ProjectName
    - Java Resources->PackageName->AppletName.java
    - built->classes->PackageName->AppletName.class
    - WebContent->index.html
    In my index.html page I put this code:
    <applet code="PackageName.AppletName" width="500" height="200"></applet>
    If I run this applet like a simple Java Applet, it runs.
    But If I run this on server, my browser doesn't show me anything. I've try several posibilities, but it doesn't work. I should do some configurations on my Tomcat or I wrote something wrong on in my index.hml code, or my AppletName it isn't a simple java class?
    Thank you for your time!
    Adina

    My index.html is in WebContent, so I've already put the AppletClass.class there.
    I've tried with a jar and if I run this on server it doesn't work either. I don't know if there is any Tomcat->server.xml settings...
    It's so frustrating...

    You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
    Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone.

  • Applet does not run in Browser

    Iam using Windows XP and IE 6.0. Applets do not run in my browser. Hovering the cursor where the applet should be in the browser, I get a Class not found message. Setting the CLASSPATH variable did not help. Any suggestions?

    You might find an answer in this new page

  • Java Applets do not run when UAC is enabled on Windows 7

    HI,
    I'm deploying Java 6.0_26-b03+ on Windows 7 and experiencing following problem:
    Java applets do not run as standard domain users in Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 when UAC is enabled (i.E. http://www.java.com/de/download/installed.jsp). When logged on as Administrator or start IE9 as Administrator java applets do run.
    If I diable UAC an log on as normal user then applets do run. Applets then still run if UAC is re-enabled again. It seems that UAC needs to be disabled for the Java Plug-In to register something in user context (assumption). If this registration happended Java applets do run also for standard Windows 7 users if UAC is enabled.
    Since we're planning a corporate Windows 7 rollout (>800PCs) we cannot do this manually on every computer. Ther must be any solution for this problem.
    Does anybody have the same problem and has already found a solution?
    This is the content of the error log file generated when a standard domain user tries to run http://www.java.com/de/download/installed.jsp

    Since we're planning a corporate Windows 7 rollout (>800PCs) we cannot do this manually on every computer. Ther must be any solution for this problem.If you're doing a corporate rollout of that size then surely you're just making an image of the desired configuration and just duplicating it onto the 800 PCs? In which case you would just configure IE appropriately as part of the image.
    Or alternatively you are manually configuring each of the 800 PCs, in which case this would be just one more thing in the checklist.

  • Class Not Found Exception - applet won't run anywhere outside of IDE

    I have an applet that runs perfectly in the netbeans IDE, but won't run from command prompt (I'm using windows) or from a browser. I've been banging my head against the wall for a few days on this one. Here's the HTML I'm using:
    <applet width="400" height="525" code="musicapplet.class" archive="crypticgraffiti.jar">
    <param name="bgcolor" value="ffffff"> <param name="fontcolor" value="000000">
    </param> </param> Your browser is not Java enabled. </applet>
    Here is the structure of the jar file's contents:
    META-INF/
    META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
    com/
    com/crypticgraffiti/
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/musicapplet
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/GetNotes.class
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/InstList.class
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/Mode.class
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/MusicCreator.class
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/OctaveTransformer.class
    com/crypticgraffiti/music/Phrase.class
    musicapplet/MusicApplet$playerThread.class
    musicapplet/MusicApplet.class
    (Musicapplet.class is the main class)
    When I attempt to run from command prompt, I get:
    "Error: Could not find or load main class crypticgraffiti.MusicApplet"
    When I attempt to load via html:
    "basic: load: class musicapplet.class not found.
    load: class musicapplet.class not found.
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: musicapplet.class
         at sun.plugin2.applet.Applet2ClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source)

         at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
    Exception: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: musicapplet.class
    security: Accessing keys and certificate in Mozilla user profile: null"
    I have tried every possible variation for the 'code' element of the applet tag (package.mainclass.class, mainclass, mainclass.class, etc). I have also tried compiling with JDK 1.6 and this didn't change anything. I've tried clearing out the cache of temporary files using the java control panel settings, and have verified that my browser can run other applets using JRE 6 and 7.
    I've tried some different ways of distributing the applet, also: putting all the class files in the folder with the html file, putting the classes in a source folder in the same folder as the html file, and finally putting a jar in the same folder as the html file (which really seems the simplest).
    Any help at all would be most appreciated! This applet is a very cool and original music creating app that draws heavily on the JFugue API. It's a shame that I can't get it online for people to play with!

    com/crypticgraffiti/music/Phrase.class
    musicapplet/MusicApplet$playerThread.class
    musicapplet/MusicApplet.class
    (Musicapplet.class is the main class)
    Please note that class names are case sensitive so "MusicApplet" is not same as "Musicapplet" or "musicapplet". Your applet tag should have fully qualified class name (without quotes) and should look like this:
    <applet width=400 height=525 code=musicapplet.MusicApplet archive="crypticgraffiti.jar">
    </applet>
    The JAR should be in the same directory as your HTML file. While launching from command line, you can also check if your JAR file is getting included in classpath.
