AppleTV and Wireless Repeater

I have a ATV2 connected wirelessly to my network. My connection was somewhat weak so I purchased a wireless repeater to boost the signal (Asus RT-N12). The main router for the Network is a D-Link 655.
Once I hooked up the repeater, the speed/signal is much better. I am able to connect to Netflix and stream, but I cannot access my Library from my iMac. The iMac is also connected to the library wirelessly. Homesharing is on the entire time.
If I unplug the repeater, the connection is weak/slow again, but I can connect to the library. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm having the exact same problem but I'm not sure I understood your instructions.
What I'm trying to do is to use airplay from my iPhone to my ATV2.  When my iPhone is connected to the repeater and my ATV2 is connected to my primary wireless network, my iPhone doesn't show the option to airplay.  When my iPhone and ATV2 are both connected to my primary wireless network it does.
The problem that you had ... was this the same as I described or was your problem that you couldn't use airplay when both devices were connected to the repeater?
Thanks

  • Is an AppleTV and Wireless Router Needed for Mirroring Screen?

Is an AppleTV and a Wireless Router Needed for Mirroring from a desktop monitor to an HDTV?

    It is one way.
You can also use a mini Display Port to HDMI adapter, and an HDMI cable. A Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter works too.
You might be able to get away with an Apple TV and no WiFi router, if you use an Ethernet cable from the Mac to the Apple TV (never tried it, but it should work in theory).
You may even be able to use an adhoc network with an Apple TV and no WiFi router, but I think the setup would be annoying each time you wanted to mirror and you would give up internt access while the adhoc network was active.

  • IPhone 3gs and wireless repeater

Hi, I read that home sharing doesn't work with repeater (under the main router work perfectly) but my problem is that under the wireless repeater I can't see shared library, but in the settings, if I type wrong credentials, it refuses, if I type correct credentials, nothing happens, but I can't see the library. Anyone have this problem and can help me? Why I can access and I can't see the library? It can be a problem of iTunes?

But, it appears that if you are a stanch Apple fan and have an Apple access point you have less chance of it failing.
Not true. Lots of people who own Aiport and TimeCapsule access points are having WiFi trouble too.
If you have near the current-technology access point that is not from Apple supporting 2.4/5Ghz then there is a chance of failure.
That's like saying if you are human you have a chance of dying. Well, yes, but not real helpful. There's a known issue with a subset of devices that are configured to broadcast both G and N signals and that, I guess is what you are referring to.
There are a few other conditions. But, Apple seems to be relying on the users to test it.
I'm not really sure what else Apple can do than that. You might be tempted to reply that Apple should buy one of every WiFi router on the market and test the iPad against it. Okay that sounds reasonable until you consider this: manufacturers change suppliers and update firmware without changing model numbers. You and two buddies can go out and buy the same exact router - by manufacturer name and model number - and essentially wind up with three different routers in terms of components and firmware. Given that situation how can Apple or any other company hope to test against all routers? And that doesn't even take into consideration the multiple ways a router can be configured, the surrounding environs, etc.

  • Wireless repeater using wrt54g and wap54g

i am having problems connecting my wrt54g and wap54g as wireless repeater. my setup is as follows: 1. wrt54g (192.168.1.10) is connected to a dsl provider modem/router (192.168.1.1) (dhcp server). With this setup i do not have any problems connecting my wired pc and laptop to the network. 2. on my 2nd floor the signal is faint thus i need to extend the wireless signal. 3. i have a wap54g (192.168.1.12) that i would like to repeat the signal of the wrt54g. 4. i tried the guide from the website but it was general thus there are some settings (recommended) that are missing. questions: 1. does the 2 wireless ap need to have the same SSID, channel and wep settings? 2. what should be the gateway for the wap54g? 192.168.1.1? 3. when using wifi, would i see 2 access point? or a single 1 and whoever is nearer? 4. does the wrt54g need to be a dhcp server? or the 192.168.1.1 can do that. 5. does my ideal setup be 2 AP and not 1 wireless router/ap and 1 ap? 6. can the wrt54g use wireless distribution mesh? 7. i cannot see my wrt54g from the firware downloads, mine is v7 and there are only v6 and v8? am from asia and this might be an asian version? any help would be appreciated.

what i did was the following: 1. enable wap54g as a wireless client to look for the main ssid. 2. copy the mac address to the option for wireless repeater. 3. i can now use the wap54g as a repeater. when i shut down everything and turn it on, i cannot again hook up. again, i have to do the steps above for the wap54g to act as a repeater. any idea on what the problem is? i am sure that what i am putting on the mac address is correct. even when i shut down and turn on all router and accesspoints. the connection seems lost.

  • Best Config for 2 iTunes Libs, AppleTV, Wired and Wireless

    Hi there,
Looking for a little configuration advice.
    AppleTV connected wired to AirportExtreme.
PC 1 with iTunes (wife and kids library) connected wired to AirportExtreme. This is the "main" AppleTV library.
PC 2 with iTunes (my library) connected wirelessly to AirportExtreme and shared on Apple TV. PC2 has its iTunes library on an external USB drive.
I get the sense I have too many hops, though AppleTV seems to be working OK. I can't get away from the suspicion that streaming from PC2 isn't great.
Any advice on a better config? Part of the problem is that PC1 somethime gets rebooted by kids. A Mac is so in my future.
Connect hard drive from PC2 to back of AppleTV and then share connect iTunes on PC2 to lib wirelessly across network?
    Consolidate libraries?
Synchronize ALL music to AppleTV (140gb). Won't I need to be sure iTunes is still running on PC1 or whatever the main AppleTV-iTunes instance is?
    Anything else?
    My thanks!!!

I'm not entirely sure what you are asking here, there doesn't seem much wrong with the way you have things, although if PC 1 sometimes gets restarted and itunes doesn't always get relaunched, you could either sync the PC 1 library rather than stream it, or have you thought about ensuring itunes always opens when the PC boots up.
You cannot add an external HD directly to the tv.

  • Connecting a wrt610n and netgear wnr2000v2 in wireless repeater mode

I am having trouble getting the wrt610n to connect to the wnr2000v2 that can be set a  wireless repeater.  I had a 160n hooked up and it was working fine, but am unable to get the 610n going on it.  I'm kinda new to setting this type of networking up , but have a general idea of how it works.  I have the 610n running and is broadcasting a signal, but the wnr 2000 will not connect to it wirelssly and repeat it.  The setup in the netgear is pretty basic , but I am new to the linksys 610n and the interface that's why I believe it has to do with the 610n.  Could someone please walk through the settings for me?  Any help would be appreciated.

So as per the scenario that you mentioned according to that could you please tell us the name of the ISP ( Internet Service Provider ).... As it all depends up the ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) setup....  Secondly check the firmware version of the Router is updated or not if it is not then it can be downloaded from the Cisco website (homesupport.cisco.com ).... Once after updating the firmware reset the Router and configure it again...
As far as wireless is concern WRT610N Router is dual-band Wireless-N Router... So that it means it has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
    frequencies...
As far as wireless settings is concern you can use same wireless network name or even you can use different network name...
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161..
So these settings are sufficient to make the Netgear  WNR2000 v2 as a repeater mode...

  • AppleTV Wired and Wireless?

The AppleTV is on the opposite end of the house from all the other stuff. I bought an Express to put halfway and extend my Time Capsule network but the AppleTV still stutters and rebuffers a lot. I have just run six lines of CAT 6 under the house into the family room. The plan is to connect to those lines the AppleTV, Airport Express, DirecTV box, Blu-ray player, X-Box 360 and Pioneer receiver.
Can I still use AirPlay if I hard-wire the AppleTV? Not sure if I have to turn off wireless on the AppleTV if I use the ethernet connection or if I use both will the AppleTV get confused and try to use the slower low-signal wireless connection for streaming.
    Thanks,
    -= Ken =-

Great! It sounds like I can have wireless turned on while the AppleTV is hard-wired to the network. This way I can wirelessly use my iPad, iPhone or MacBook with it. Do you know if I can enable wireless on the AppleTV and tell it to not look for a wireless network or do I not even have to worry about that?
    Thanks,
    -= Ken =-

  • I would like to AirPlay mirror my iMac and be able to use both my magic mouse and wireless keyboard, but the bluetooth range won't let me. Is there a way to extended its range?

I am buying an iMac to AirPlay mirror on my big screen TV with AppleTV (2nd generation). But my TV is located far away from my iMac and I won't be able to use my magic mouse or wireless keyboard via bluetooth connection. I know I can use an app to simulate both mouse and keyboard, but I really need to use the actual devices.
I wish there was a way to pair them to my iPad or iPhone, via bluetooth, and control my iMac via network. It is a cheap solution, as I wouldn't need to buy any other device. I believe all these devices, without modifications, have enough technology to be able to work as I've imagined. The only need was to adapt the software.
Is there a solution simple as this one, or do I have to buy a Bluetooth extender in order to use my magic mouse and wireless keyboard? If so, which BT extender do you suggest and what is its range?
    Thank you!

If you are still under warranty, contact Apple to get it serviced. You can also visit an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider to get it looked at.

  • Can I add a second airport as a wireless repeater?

CAn I use a second airport extreme as a wifi repeater using the main router wifi?

I am hoping an airport express can work as a wireless repeater WITHOUT having to be connected into the LAN via Ethernet cabling. Is this possible? In the manual online it seems that it only works as an extender (i.e. it must be plugged into the network router/switch) and can't repeat a wifi signal from one wifi device to an apple extreme base station. Can someone confirm this?

  • Airport Express as wireless repeater

Hi all, just wondering if anyone could give me a hand. I have just bought an Airport Express (not arrived just yet) not just for streaming music, but for extending my network. I am a student and have just moved into my new house. The internet here already is fine, the people here before me have given me the password to the encryption but not to the account or the router. This will all change in September, however. The router is a Netgear DG834PN. My iMac is having difficulty connecting to the network, I think this is due to the distance it is away from the router, as when I connect the iMac upstairs (nearer to it) it connects fine, hence the desire for a wireless repeater. Will I be able to use the Airport Express as a repeater? If not, what must I do? Must I get an Apple wireless router as well? Will a time capsule be fine? Please remember I cannot access the DG834PN's graphical interface at all.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jake

You will need to run an ethernet cable from the netgear to your airport express. then setup the airpor express as an access point. As you don't have access to the WebUI of the router then you wont be able to setup the airport express as a WDS or wireless repeater.
The other option would be to connect a timecapsule to the router via ethernet. Setup the time capsule as a bridge to the router. Then you would be able to extend the wireless network with an airport express.

  • How can I stream videos that come into my imac directly to my AppleTV and then my TV

how can I stream videos that come into my imac directly to my AppleTV and then my TV?

Or... you can just use a 3rd party solution.
Best solution for streaming audio and video to your Apple TV from an Mac or Windows PC... without using iTunes... is Airparrot. You can screen share your Mac to your Apple TV. It even lets you select your overscan/underscan and video quality.
Download it and install. It shows up in your system tray. As long as you are on the same network as your Apple TV, just right click the Airparrot icon and select Apple TV as your Airplay device.
    http://airparrot.com
Then hook up your wireless keyboard and mouse and plop on the couch for some supersized web browsing.
It's 20 minute sessions for the free version, $9.99 for full and can gift to someone for $4.99 if you buy for yourself.

  • Can WRG54G be a wireless repeater for WRG54GC or vice versa?

I have a WRG54GC on second floor off cable modem and works wirelessly to 2 PCs. However, I do not have signal on the first floor opposite side of house. I cannot move the access point as that's where the cable modem comes in. Can the other router I have be programmed to act as a wireless repeater? Or vice versa?. If not, does the WRG54G have a longer range than the WRG54GC?

well..the router only works as an access point..it cannot work as a wireless bridge or wireless repeater ...
in order to repeat the wireless signal , you can get a wireless range expander ...

  • WRE54g as Universal Wireless Repeater?

Hi, I own a Wag200g wireless router and I would like to extend its range with a WRE54g product. Is this possible? Are they compatible? I read somewhere in this forum that you can use some versions of the WRE54g as a universal wireless repeater. Is this true? Which versions are usable as UWR? Please bring some light on this ^_^ Thank you!

I think this repeater is compatible with b/g 2.4 GHz wireless network. E3000 router is wireless N router. E3000 is also compatible with b/g wireless network. I think you should first contact the manufacturer of the repeater and make sure that it will work with N router. Sitecom WL-130 is basically wireless access point. You will need to configure it in repeater mode.
Follow this link to configure Sitecom WL-130 in repeater mode.

There's an issue currently that a lot of us are experiencing in that we all get the error message "iTunes is currently unavailable; please try later"
It's an issue with Apple and we're awaiting an update re this
I've posted a topic in regards to this after having a long conversation with Apple support this morning and will be receiving a call from their tech team tomorrow to run through it further
As it stands iTunes cannot be accessed via ATV's and nor can it be streamed via AirPlay from iTunes to the ATV
However I can access all films/iCloud content via my Mac Mini with no issues!
