AppleTV (Gen3) won't display any wireless networks...

I've seen several other users with similar issues, and I'm wondering what is being done. I got my Apple TV in May in the US, but now live in China. It was working fine until two days ago when, in the middle of streaming a movie, it disconnected from the wireless network. I tried everything to get it reconnected, but it only ever shows up as having one bar for signal strength. I even moved it (and my tv) into the same room as my BRAND NEW Airport Extreme and set the Airport and ATV next to each other - still no connection.
I plugged it in with ethernet cable, and it worked fine, but that is not an option for the long-term - I bought the product because of the wireless capability!
Here's my other problem. I took the ATV into the Apple Store here in Beijing, but since they don't sell them in China, they wouldnt' help me. So, I've got this small, black brick and Apple offers zero solutions. I updated it 5.0.2 hoping that would help - nope.
Any feedback/advice would be much appreciated!
KD

I finally got around to the factory restore. That didn't help - now it's a brick that doesn't get past the Wireless Network part of the initial setup.
What is Apple's warranty on the ATV??

  • Mac Mini - Core Solo - Won't See Any Wireless network

I have a Mac Mini, first gen Intel, Core Solo, that won't see any wireless networks. However, it will see my extreme basestation, and my two airport express devices over bonjour, which makes me think that the wireless device is working.
I've reset the PMU, with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

Does an Airport card show in the system profiler?
Is Airport switched on in your mini - the Airport icon in the menu bar should show at least grey bars rather than an empty white 'fan' shape?
With Airport on, when you click on the Airport icon, does it show any network?
If you click on 'Join Other Network' and type the name of the wifi network you run, what error message does the system give?
How far away from the wifi base station is the mini? What kind of structures and environment is it in?
If you move the mini to be in close proximity to the wifi base station, does it show any signal?
When you download a copy of AP Grapher (http://www.chimoosoft.com/apgrapher.html) and run it, what does it show for signals, noise etc?
How is the mini seeing any wifi devices via Bonjour - do you have it wired into your network? If so, the fact that the devices appear via bonjour doesn't mean they are transmitting wifi, nor that they are in range.
By the way, the Core Solo mini doesn't have a PMU to reset. If you used the PMU reset procedure it won't have helped, and may actually have caused problems. The correct procedure for an Intel-based mini is an SMC reset, as follows:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    -Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, *making sure the power button is not being pressed* at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.

  • My iphone 4s won't detect any wifi networks.

    Hi
My iPhone 4s won't detect any wireless networks.  It was working fine until last night when the connection dropped int he middle of me watching a programme.  At first I thought it was our router, but I reset that about 5 times, and all other devices are working fine on it.  The phone won't detect any other networks either - if I ask to join a network it comes up with the message "could not scan for wireless networks".  I have tried resetting the network settings as suggested on the support page, but it hasn't worked.  Can anybody help?  Thank you.

If no change after resetting network settings on the iPhone, try restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup.
If no change after that, the iPhone has a hardware problem.

  • N6300 Centrino Ultimate Wont join any wireless network

I just bought an Intel Centrino Ultimate N6300 wireless card and installed it on my W520 ThinkPad. Its working fine and I can discover all the wireless networks surrounding me that are 2.4 and 5 GHz. The only problem I faces is that it won’t join any wireless network at all. I have 2 wireless modems and I tried to create a hotspot using my iPhone and still no luck at all. Every time the computer will try to connect and will ask me for my Wi-Fi password and then will try to connect until it says can’t connect to network. I tried updating the driver but it was up to date, I also tried deleting the driver and install it all over again but still no luck. I'm currently running Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit on my machine.
Can anyone please tell me if they know how to fix it?

Click on the START button, enter "network connections" (without quotes) in the "search programs and files" area. Press ENTER.  This will produce the "Network Connections" window, and your wireless network should show up there as an object.
Select that network object, right-click, select DISABLE.  Let it stabilize for 15 seconds or so.  You should see a red "X" over the wireless icon in the System Tray notification area.
After a bit, right-click again and this time select ENABLE.  Again, let it stabilize.  The red "X" should go away and the wireless icon should reappear, and you may once again be prompted to enter your password for the connection.
Does it get recognized successfully now?
You can also try right-clicking on that network object and select "diagnose".  See if Windows can figure out what's wrong and correct it.  You might be prompted to designate whether this network is home, work, or public, and presumably you'd select "home".
Also, another thing might be that you need to specify whether this new wireless network is home, work, or public.
Again, click on the START button, enter "network and sharing" in the "search programs and files" field.  Press ENTER.  This will produce the Network and Sharing Center window.
What is shown in the graphic?  Is your new wireless network presented??
You can try either "set up a new connection or network" or "connect to a network", and follow the dialog wizard.
Again, you eventually want to be presented with the window that asks you to pick home, work, or public network, and then you know you've finally got it working.

  • HP Photosmart Plus B210a all-in-one won't display any networks in the list.

Hi, I recently purchased a HP Photosmart Plus all in one printer and I've been having trouble with it from day one.
First off, it won't connect wirelessly.
It won't display any networks in the list when searched for, it won't take my network details when I manually input them and it won't take any static IP address I've tried from other suggestions.
Secondly, the print quality is very bad. Streaks and fading are occuring and after using up 70% of my ink trying to sort it out through troubleshooting it's still bad.
It's extremely important for me to be able to have web access using the printer as all members of my household use it and it'll get fustrating having to car laptops and computers around to print.
    Can anybody help at all?

Top line says "The wireless radio is not functioning. Contact HP support"
I take this as a very bad sign and needs replacing?
The tests I done produce streaks, fading and lines. I printed off two photos, one from a memory card and one from a scan. The memory card produced heavy blocked lines of color and the scan was just dull.
I'm using a Wanadoo Wireless Livebox and Windows 7 64 Bit
One other question... is this like a brilliant printer for photos mainly? I'm a Graphics design student and although my final prints are made from home I would like accurate and decent printouts for my portfolios. Should I keep this or go for another one with similar features and better print quality?

  • My iMac will not display my wireless networks, any suggestions?

I have 3 wireless netowrks in my house. My iMac will only display the one that is for my home automation system and it is not connected to the internet.  Any suggestions on this?  When I click the wireless icon at the top it only shows 1 network, it won't display my other network or my neighbours networks.  When I try to add one of the other networks in my house, it will not find them.

  • Cannot detect any wireless networks on my HP ENVY TouchSmart m7 j120dx

    Hello,
My laptop won't pick up any wireless networks at all - I'm having what seems like a few different problems:
    1.  Because the laptop won't pick up any wireless networks, I can't of course connect to the internet without using my ethernet cable.
    2.  When I try to turn my adapter on using the F12 key, all it does is toggle airplane mode - which isn't going to help me connect to the internet.
    3.  When I go to 'Network' under PC Settings, I can toggle airplane mode but the bluetooth is greyed out and can't be toggled and it doesn't even give me an option to turn back on my wifi adapter.
    4.  When I went into the Network and Sharing Center to enable the adapter that way under 'Change Adapter Settings', I couldn't even see the adapter listed there.  All it showed was Ethernet and Hamachi because I use LogMeIn Hamachi on my computer.
By this point, I was like "Oh, great - the adapter might somehow not even be there even though it was last night," (I was online wirelessly the night before) so I went into the device manager and then expanded Network Adapters I only saw the same two Ethernet and LogMeIn adapters.
    5.  So next, I tried downloading the adapter - but the problem is, I have no idea what kind my laptop is supposed to have.  Going to the download drivers section in the support area of the hp website, I found many options and none of them seemed to work.  I also tried redownloading the Wireless Button Driver (whatever that's called) and that didn't work.
    5.  I even tried doing a system restore to a point of about a week ago - this also did not solve my problem because the same things were happening and the same things I tried above still are not solving the problem either.
I know countless other people have had the same problem(s) mentioned above (simple Google search told me that) with their HP ENVY Notebook PCs, so I'm hoping that someone can help me and finally solve this problem for me.
The model  is HP ENVY TouchSmart m7 j120dx, the model number is E8A11UA#ABA, and my computer is running Windows 8.1 64-bit.
    On another note, here's the names of the only 2 adapters that show up in my device manager list (one is for LogMeIn Hamachi);
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (Ethernet)
LogMeIn Hamachi Virtual Ethernet Adapter (Hamachi)
The wireless was working fine before with Hamachi installed, so I doubt that has any significance.
If there's any other information you need that I did not mention above, feel free to ask me.  I look forward to someone replying as soon as possible and being able to find a solution to this problem for me!
EDIT: One other thing I should mention is that the wifi in my location is working fine for every other device I try (phone, gaming console, other people's laptops/desktops, etc.

    Hello dginther,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand wireless is not working properly. If the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore
Next, please try the steps in this HP document: Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection (Windows 8)
These steps should be enough to resolve the issue. If not, you can try a manual reinstall of the driver:
    1. Go into Device Manager, then Network adapters.
    2. Right-click on the wireless driver, and select "Uninstall".
    3. Restart the computer. This will force the driver to reinstall itself.
Please let me know the results of your troubleshooting. Thanks!

  • Won't search for wireless networks

My iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1) won't search for wireless networks.  At all.  It's irritating because I can't backup or sync without being on a wireless network.
If I go to Settings > Wi-Fi, I show that it's on but the wheel just spins and spins on "Choose a Network" but none show up, even though I know there are at least 5 in my immediate area.
I've tried turning off the Wi-Fi, then on again.
I've tried resetting the Network Settings.
I've tried turning the phone off then on again.
    So far, nothing has worked.
    Any suggestions?

OK, I see you indicated that you turned the phone off and back on again, but did you do a soft reset? Hold down the Home button and the Sleep button at the same time and hold them down until you see the silver Apple (ignore the red slider if it appears). This will restart your iPhone but you won't lose any settings or anything.

  • G4 (MDD) with AirPort Can't See/Won't Connect to Wireless Networks

Hi all. I've seen topics/threads that get close to my question/problem, but not quite.
    I inherited a PowerMac G4 (MDD)/Dual 1 GHz/1.5 GB DDR SDRAM/running 10.3.9.
I purchased a used original AirPort card from eBay, opened up the machine, and plugged it in. When I went to update the software (from a CD), my machine told me that it was up to date (though one HD is running OS9 and one running OSX -- so the software wouldn't install because the HD running OSX said it was up-to-date and the HD running 9 said it was impossible). The machine recognizes the card/shows it gray in the toolbar/says it has Firmware Version 8.70 in the System Profile.
My problem is that the AirPort can't see any wireless networks 99% of the time, even though 3 (including mine) are in range all the time. I've seen my network only flicker into possibility a few times, and even though I've disabled all security measures on the wireless router (Linksys Wireless-G, Model WRT54G), it simply won't connect. One time in 3 hours it momentarily looked like it was going to connect, then said "out of range," then disappeared completely. It has seen 0 wireless networks for the past hour.
I've read everything far and wide trying to solve this issue and am totally stuck. At first I thought I needed an antenna for the AirPort, but this is an internal card, so that doesn't seem right. I know the AirPort card (and not Extreme) is right because a) I don't have a FW800 port and b) the machine recognizes this card. Finally, I thought it may have had to do with the WPA security on the Linksys, but even with security disabled...nothing.
I'm feeling very frustrated. Any advice?
    Thank you very much.

Thanks, Tom. I did as you suggested, and the Max Signal under the Log is showing a red 12, which is terrible, yes? What, exactly, does this tell me? That this is simply a case of old technology (AirPort b) struggling to communicate with new technology (Linksys g) over a medium distance (Linksys is in next room, through wall)? If plugging straight into the ethernet were an option, I'd just do it. But I can't get my G4 onto the Internet without running cords down the hallway and through my TV room, which is an obvious eyesore.
Is there a chance this AirPort card is only partly functional and I should return it? Or do I need to accept the fact that this G4 needs to either be moved closer to the Linksys router or be plugged in directly?
    Thank you.

  • Won't connect to wireless network but indicates full signal strength

I just bought a new macbook pro last week and connected to my home's wireless internet immediately with no problems. Until this morning it was working fine. When i opened my computer and it woke from sleep it would no longer provide me with internet access. Both skype and safari won't work but my icon indicates that i have full signal strength and that i am in fact connected to my home network. I ran a diagnostic test and the result was that it "appeared to be connected" yet i still am not able to access the internet. When i plug an ethernet cable into my mac the internet works and all the other computers in the house (all non-macs) have wireless internet access.
    Thanks for any help!

When i opened my computer and *it woke from sleep* it would no longer provide me with internet access.
Sometimes a restart will correct network problems since you are getting the full bars and the diagnostic test confirms +"appeared to be connected".+

  • My mac won't recognize ANY wifi networks.

All of the sudden, my airport utility on my Macbook Pro won't detect any wifi networks. My other devices recognize my network, as well as about 12 others around me, but my laptop, which never had a problem before, won't find any. My computer crashes at least once daily (it's old at this point), and it did today, not unusual, and now my airport can't find any networks. Help? I'm running Yosemite.

You have a Yosemite issue, so your best bet for a timely and informed response would be to post in the Yosemite support forum. The link is just below:

Alternately, but probably not quite as appropriate, you could try a post in the MacBook Pro support forum as well:

  • Can no longer see any wireless networks

    Hello,
I've had my macbook for just under a year now and have never had a problem seeing/connecting to any wireless networks in the past. However, over the past few days I have had issues connecting to my router. It keeps kicking me off every 15 or 20 minutes and when I try to reconnect it often gives me a timeout error. I have reset the router countless times and have even reset it to factory settings and triple checked that the firmware is up-to-date. I felt it was a router issue until this morning; it kicked me off so I reset my router and turned my airport off&on but now I cannot even see the network nor the other 10 (or so) networks that are typically viable. Since I cannot even see the wireless networks across the block anymore I seems like this has to be a computer issue (or at least the computer has to be involved to some degree).
I've tried to make an appointment at the genius bar but they are booked solid, as in they don't have any available appointments available at any time, even days in the future. Has anyone seen this problem before? Is my wireless card is on the fritz? Does anyone know of any potential software issues that could cause this?
    Thanks in advance.

You can skip the Genius Bar and just call AppleCare directly.
    However, a couple of suggestions:
    • create a new location in your Network preferences; does the problem persist?
    • create a new user and log in to that account; does the problem persist?
This one's more extreme: Do an Archive and Install, which will completely reinstall the system but preserve user accounts and data:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545
If these don't help, then it may well be hardware.
    Good luck!

  • My old PowerPC G4 no longer sees any wireless networks

My old PowerPC G4 no longer sees any wireless networks. The PowerPC and my new iMac was powered off for a week. When I powered them on, the iMac found the usual wireless networks that are seen around here but the PowerPC did not see ANY! Even though they sit next to each other!! The G4 worked fine before and was connected to the internet.
The G4 has an AirPort card in it and IS enabled. Is the problem with the card (how do I verify?) or did something get turned off on the re-boot?
BTW the AirPort card does shows up in the system info and has firmware version 9.52 but states that "wireless network not available" under the Current Wireless Network.
    How do I fix this?
    Please Help!

As this is an old G4, I presume you have a PCI network card.
I had a similar problem on my son's old G4. After a lot of messing around thinking it was a software problem, I discovered that the antenna was damaged and did not make a good connection to the card. I could get it to work intermittently by pushing it on. The solution was to buy a new card.
So try manipulating the antenna connection at the back of your mac to see if you can get a signal.

  • Cannot see any Wireless networks

After installing the latest security update for 10.3.9, I can no longer see any wireless networks. I have tried reseating my airport card along with unpluging the antenna with no luck. I have also repaired permissions and trashed the Network Interface preference file, again nada. Another suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have a relatively new Airport Express base station at home and I have also tried testing the connection at several wireless hotspots.

I had the same problem and that's why I ventured here for the first time after an hour's battle this morning.
My solution: restart the computer. Just when the menu has gone out of sight, you get the Keychain pop-up box informing you that the airport application has been changed and whether you wish to allow Keychain access to this new version as well. Here's the tricky part. You must react within 1 (one) second to the pop-up screen and click the "always allow"-button. Once the computer has rebooted, you should have access to your Airport network once more.
Clunky? Yes. With me, the problem was even more bizarre. I could see my trusted network in the Airport drop-down menu but even if the computer seemed to connect to it, I couldn't get an IP. Sometimes the whole upper right corner icon bar would freeze if I tried connecting.
Puzzling? You bet. I'm rather perplexed as to why I couldn't just solve this problem by removing and re-adding the Airport Keychain entry with the new version. I can only conclude: thank you, Apple, for making patches that work.

  • No longer detetects any wireless network

    Hi
My macbook was correctly connected to the Internet via my wireless network, and then it suddenly disconnected. It no longer detects any wireless networks (and there are quite a few usually!)
I tried to turn airport off & then back on, but no change.
I then tried to reboot my macbook, but no change either.
When it searches for wireless networks, it is very slow (sluggish).
I also booted on Windows 7 (dual boot), and it has *exactly the same* problem. Leads me to believe that it is a hardware problem, more than a software one..
The only recent change: I moved from the UK to France few days ago => new ISP & new router (but I doubt this could be the source...)
Is there anything I can do?
    Replace the wireless card?
    Thanks

By the sounds of it, I've been having exactly the same problem. I will be using my macbook and suddenly the airport will drop out for no reason. Sometimes I can reconnect but often I'll have to try a dozen times or more, with the connection timing out each time. I've actually set up two differently named wireless networks at home to solve this - for a while, if one dropped out, I could reconnect to the other one. Even this has now stopped working. I've tried flicking airport on and off, restarting the airport base stations, I even have one of the wireless networks configured as WDS sending to an airport base station within a couple of metres of where I normally use my machine. Nothing works. I've tried deleting ~/library/preferences com.apple.internetconfig.plist and com.appleinternetconfigpriv.plist and rebooting - for a few times that would fix it, but not any more.
The strangest thing, though, is that if I switch user accounts, I can access the wireless networks again no problem.
It's almost like there's something that needs flushing in the user account's wireless settings - a buffer, or a cache, or something. It'll generally only happen once I've been using the machine for a sustained period of time.
I'm running 10.5.8 with Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0×168C, 0×86) Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.4.16.2 if that's of any help to anyone.
