AppleTV, iMac and Airplay mirroring

I'm having a strange issue with Airplay mirroring from an iMac Late 2012 (10.9.1) to AppleTV (both 2nd and 3rd generation).
When I turn Airplay mirroring on the iMac says connected, Console is not showing any errors and the TV goes and stays black.
Now I'm trying the same on a Macbook Air Mid 2011 (10.9.1) and everything works fine, both WiFi and using the same Ethernet cable I was using with the iMac. I'm also trying with a Mac Mini, Late 2012 (10.9.1) which works without any issues too.
Regardless of TV (Samsung and Philips) connected to the AppleTV, HDMI cable. Also tried both WiFi and wired.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks,
Daniel

Some further info after advanced testing.
If I go into iTunes start a video and chose Airplay everything plays correctly on the TV. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is Airplay mirroring.
Thanks for any ideas,
Daniel

I have a ATV 3 on my network which my iphone & ipad can see , so i know its on the correct network etc.

    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

Thanks to the $15 Beamer, AirPlay streaming is still possible on Macs  that do not support Airplay and mirroring.
Other solutions are the Air Parrot, StreamToMe, and AirServer.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV uses 6 W, which IMO is hardly a lot of energy.

  • HT204291 Is it possibly to have iTunes music play out of both the computer and AppleTV while using Airplay Mirroring for the TV?

Is it possibly to have iTunes music play out of both the computer and Apple TV while simultaneously using Airplay Mirroring to view the computer screen on the TV? Whenever I try, by clicking on 'computer' radial button for volume in iTunes Airplay, the TV automatically reverts to the Apple TV screen. I usually end up using preferences to 'bring back' the audio to the computert while leaving the picture on the tv, but this means i have to suffer from the inferior sound quality of my Macbook internal speakers.

    AirPlay Mirroring
Requires a second-generation Apple TV or later. Supports the following Mac models:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)

  • Will a 10.9 iMac support airplay mirroring

will a 10.9 iMac support airplay mirroring

Of course, always that you have got a Mid 2011 or newer iMac. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
If your iMac is not supported, you can use an application like AirParrot or Beamer to mirror your iMac's screen to the Apple TV

  • AppleTV, Imac and Networks?

    Hi All,
I'm new to the group so please bear with me. I've read other discussions regarding AppleTV connectivity and they have come loce to answering my questions, but not quite. So here goes.
Background: I was running my AppleTV from my iMac 2.16G Intel on OSX 10.4.x with no problems (once I originally got it set up). I upgraded to OSX 10.5 (not a clean install, just upgraded) and had no problems with the ATV.
Problem: I relocated my ATV to another room (within signal range of the iMac) and now I cannot connect to my iMac. The Apple TV did not show in my devices list.
    Efforts thus far (ATV):
    1. Attempted to connect to Old Library - Failed
    2. Attempted to connect to a new iTunes Library - Failed
    3. Attempted to connect to a new wireless network - Failed
    Efforts thus far (iMac):
    1. Re-Create the wireless network [Channel 6 as recommended by a Mac porfessional and 128 WEP encryption] and enter info in ATV - Failed
I don't have a router, wireless or otherwise, other than the cable modem. I'm not sure if I'm setting up the network on my iMac correctly (or securely) if I start opening sharing and turn off the firewall. Any ideas? TIA for the feedback.

    Success!!!
I guess it's all a matter of semantics. Wireless Network vs. Sharing Services Wirelessly.
After attempting to connect my ATV to a wireless network created in the System Preferences - Network pane, and failing miserably yet again, I took a deep breath, regrouped and tried to figure out what was going on. On the Sharing pane in System Preferences, my option to share my Ethernet based internet connection via AirPort was grayed out. Checked as active, but grayed out. I thought to myself; "Self...maybe your problem lies somewhere in sharing vs. networking."
But how to give myself the option to get to the "advanced" button which was also grayed out. I unchecked, or turned off, internet sharing and suddenly, AirPort, Ethernet and Firewire rejoined the real world of selectable options.
Selecting Airport and venturing to the previously unavailable "advanced" button, I found what I had been calling a "Network". All the juicy information my heretofore unconnected ATV needed. I entered the "network" name and password into the ATV and VIOLA! (not the musical instrument, but the boisterous exclamation of glee and joy) Entering the 5 digit pass code into iTunes and I connected instantly.
Almost as fast, my ATV disappeared from the Device list, but I did not despair. I had come this far and would not give up. Returning to the ATV, I turned on Synching. Apparently this tells the iTunes that a constant connection is desired and says "Hey! Keep me in your devices list!" As seen in the harrowing tales of others, I also ensured that my iTunes and iPhoto libraries were shared using the appropriate preferences and there have been no problems since.
The Moral of my story is to connect your Apple TV and your Mac using Internet Sharing via Airport, and NOT by creating a new wireless network. I can't speak for those using separate networking devices or using Windows boxes. This is just for one Mac to an ATV.
So hopefully, the tale of my quest will help other adventurers as they explore the realms of Apple TV.
Good luck to all and many heartfelt thanks to those who have helped me on my way to success.
    Cheers

  • ML and Airplay mirroring

I have just updated my Macbook air to ML. My ipod touch and iphone 4s can both airplay to me 2nd gen appletv. My Macbook ait 13-inch, Mid 2011 model cant detect any appletv devices. Any ideas?

Do you see the Airplay icon on your Menubar?
If you click on the Speaker icon on your Menubar while holding the option key, is the AppleTV listed there as an output device?
Make sure your AppleTV has the latest firmware updates.

  • Apple TV and Airplay mirroring not working

I've been trying to get Apple TV 2 working in my college for the last couple of weeks. Our wireless uses 802.1x but after a lot of fail trying to configure the Apple TV using a number of different profiles via Apple Configurator I've convinced an infrastructure engineer to create a new SSID  using WPA2 and creating a rule through our firewall to allow clients connected on that SSID out.
I could finally get out to the internet  for about 10 minutes before it lost connection again. During the 10 minutes I was still unable to use AirPlay via the iPad although they were both on the same subnet!
Can someone please help if they've had any success with this.
    Regards,
    Evan

Also. I noticed that when I joined the school's network, it didn't ask for my student ID and password like it normally does when I connect to it through my laptop or phone. There is a password I have to put in in order to connect, but I didn't ask me.

  • HT201335 Can you Airplay Mirror from iMac to Apple TV?

I want to play a DVD on my iMac and airplay mirror to my Apple TV. Is this possible?

If you have a newer Mac yes, I don't remember the cutoff date but I think it's mid 2011.
If yours is older than that there's a program called Airparrot you can download that will let older Macs do Airplay. For me it worked great and it's only $10. It has a 20 minute trial so you can make sure it works before you buy it.

  • I would like to AirPlay mirror my iMac and be able to use both my magic mouse and wireless keyboard, but the bluetooth range won't let me. Is there a way to extended its range?

I am buying an iMac to AirPlay mirror on my big screen TV with AppleTV (2nd generation). But my TV is located far away from my iMac and I won't be able to use my magic mouse or wireless keyboard via bluetooth connection. I know I can use an app to simulate both mouse and keyboard, but I really need to use the actual devices.
I wish there was a way to pair them to my iPad or iPhone, via bluetooth, and control my iMac via network. It is a cheap solution, as I wouldn't need to buy any other device. I believe all these devices, without modifications, have enough technology to be able to work as I've imagined. The only need was to adapt the software.
Is there a solution simple as this one, or do I have to buy a Bluetooth extender in order to use my magic mouse and wireless keyboard? If so, which BT extender do you suggest and what is its range?
    Thank you!

If you are still under warranty, contact Apple to get it serviced. You can also visit an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider to get it looked at.

  • IOS5 Mirroring with IPAD1 and AIRPLAY on APPLETV

How do I make my IPAD1 with IOS5 handle the mirroring function using AIRPLAY and my APPLETV?

The AirPlay Mirroring function requires an iPad 2 or an iPhone 4S.
But some Internet video works with traditional AirPlay on an iPad 1. As a test, try playing a video at the CNN Website at http://www.cnn.com.
