AppleTV in iTunes ?

Finally..... after a day of misery got my Airport Extreme to access the Internet. At least I can view Trailers and YouTube!!!!
The only remaining problem I have is that AppleTV does not show in ITunes.... In iTunes Preferences I got Look for aTV ON. In Sharing I got "Look for shared libraries" ON. In System Pref under Firewall I checked "Allow for essential services" (or should it be allow for all incoming?) The ATV manuel states that if Firewall is on one should make sure that Apple TV Sharing is selected in Sharing of Systems Pref. But I don''t see that listed under services???
Anyone know how to get AppleTV to show in ITunes ?

Thanks for all your help. It finally works. After the Airport was properly configured -- which took me a while without reading Designing Airport Networks -- I found that the AppleTV only shows in iTunes AFTER you go to aTV and in the settings click on Add iTunes library; then a passcode is provided and aTV pops up under iTunes on the computer. If this had been spelled out somewhere or in this discussion group, I believe lots of people would have saved a lot of time. AppleTV and Airport Extreme and great products but anyone thinking that they simply require to be "plugged in and will play" is in for some surprises. Thanks again.

  • How do you connect AppleTV to iTunes?

Did a software update to my AppleTV and now it shows plugging my AppleTV into iTunes.  How do you do this? Is there a special cable to use?

not a special one just a microUSB in 1 end and normal usb in the other
it's pretty common as all smartphones and tablets apart from apples use it for sync and charging so any supermarket should have them around

  • Moving rented movies from appletv to itunes

How do I move a rented movie on appletv to itunes. I know you can do it the other way around. But this time i rented the movie straight from my apple tv and dont see how to move it to my computer. Ultimately I want to move it to my iphone. But want to move it to itunes on my computer first.
    Any ideas???

How do I move a rented movie on appletv to itunes.
You can't. A rental done on an Apple TV can't be played anywhere else.

  • Stream From AppleTV to iTunes?

I can see my AppleTV from iTunes, but all music is grayed-out.
Does anyone know if there is a way to play the music content inside an AppleTV from iTunes similar to playing the music in an iPod that is connected to the computer?
    Thanks!

Thank you Return, I had tried this earlier thinking it might have helped, but unfortunately it didn't resolve the problem, everything like before.  Unlike others who reported problems with streaming which could be traced to poor signal strength, when I switched to Wifi, I had an excellent signal.
Oddly, when I switched on this morning with nothing changed from last night, the streaming worked perfectly in all scenarios (stream from internet, push from Airplay PC, push from Airplay IOS device, pull from ATV Home Sharing).  Wary however due to my previous temporary improvements, I stopped a movie halfway in an ATV Home Sharing pull, to see if the same movie could be pushed from the same iTunes PC from which it had been pulled.  No luck!  And now also no streaming from Internet.
    I really don't get it!
(Hmmm - for some reason this reply got marked as "This solved my question", when it didn't, I didn't say that it did, and I can't seem to change it.)

  • Does the new AppleTV require iTunes to be running all the time?

The old AppleTV required iTunes to be running if you wanted to stream anything. Does this still apply to the new one?

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't. You'd be accessing Netflix directly via the net, without iTunes as an intermediary. (Like YouTube.)

  • Seeing AppleTV in Itunes

I have an appleTV, Netgear WPN824 and a G4 MacPowerbook. I repalced this with an G5 Intel PowerbookPro. I have both Powerbooks connected wirelessly to the network, but only the G4 can see the appleTV in itunes. I have reloaded OSX and itunes on the G5 machine and I have reset the appletv and set it to search for new itunes, but still only the G4 machine can see it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Only the mac with the tv primary itunes library (the one that syncs and streams) can see the tv and display it in its devices list all of the time. Secondary (streaming only) libraries need to be selected as the source from the tv before the tv will show up in the device lists of itunes.
Is this what you are asking.

  • Can find AppleTV in iTunes

    Help please!
AppleTV is connected to network (can see Movie Trailers and YouTube) and Mac is also connected to the same network (internet is working).
Somehow, can find AppleTV in iTunes.
Can someone please kindly help? Thanks a lot.

I had the same problem. The machine was simple to set up, but not in trying to figure out why it couldn't find my wireless network (Dlink) and then not showing up in iTunes after the wireless found it. So...
    1. Apparently the ATV cannot use WEP security. I changed mine to WPA. After a reset on the router, the Apple TV showed up with routing info. At the TV, the ATV showed it could find my wireless and connect. So far so good...
    2. Now iTunes couldn't see the Apple TV. It never showed up as simply as the book described it. After a quick look at the preference settings on iTunes, I checked the box under Apple TV to allow iTunes to search for the unit. Nothing. I shut down iTunes, powered down the ATV (hold Play button for 6 seconds) then started everything up again. This time the ATV showed up in iTunes. Then it was a simple matter to sync the two units.
As great as I find Apple's units to be and the software a joy to use, the books are often WEAK in setup instructions. Some difficulty was related to the network, but the book could have been clearer about the WEP information. Just have to think clearly from "there to here" and what can be happening in between. Hope this helps!

  • Movies disappearing from AppleTV when iTunes not running

I have synced my iTunes content to my AppleTV several times and have found that I continue to experience jerky playback of movies (AppleTV will pause to buffer data) and that the movies totally disappear from my AppleTV menu when I shut down iTunes. I believe that the movies files have been copied to AppleTV (ie I am not streaming the files). When I restart iTunes, it appears to need to re-sync only the movies with my AppleTV (music, Podcasts, and photos remain available on AppleTV while iTunes is not running). Please advise 1. why the poor flow when movie is playing on AppleTV and 2. why does it seem to need to keep re-syncing movies to the AppleTV?

    Hi Drew-Bob,
iTunes should not have to re-sync your purchased movies if they transferred over correctly,
You might want to try restarting the Apple TV, or restoring it. Information on how to perform this is in knowledge base article 305190 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305190).
    Cheers,

  • 27 Inch iMac doesn't mirror to AppleTV - but iTunes does using Airplay

I was having a heck of a time trying to get mirroring to work from my 27 inch iMac OS10.9.x to AppleTV.  iTunes would send video to AppleTV using Airplay but selecting mirroring did not work even though AppleTV was selectable from the iMac display preferences. .
    Solved:
After spending hours and several days on the phone with Apple Support who were very persistent in getting to the bottom of this,  and having the Apple Engineering staff involved it was determined  that I had some 3rd party drivers installed.  My system setup was done through Migration Assistant to get this new iMac setup using stuff from my old iMac.
Uninstalling AirParrott didn't help.  It turns out SplashTop desktop drivers were the problem.  I had did an uninstall of SplashTop but that did not delete the drivers, probably because of the Migrated system? Running some tests Apple advisor was able to determine com.splashtop.driver.SRXDisplayCard and com.splashtop.driver.SRXFrameBufferConnector drivers were still loading at startup.  An initial search of the /System/Library/Extensions directory did not show these files because they are named " SRXDisplayCard " and " SRXFrameBufferConnector " .  Moving these files to the Trash Can and Restarting my iMac and voila I now have mirroring to my AppleTV.  Note that there is another place to look for SRFrameBufferConnection.framework which is a file used in my installation of Splash Desktop.  You can find it at and move /System//Library/Frameworks to the trash.
So if you had SplashTop (mine was a 2012 version) on your iMac and can't display using mirroring to AppleTV try the above.

Does the scanner show up in the System Profiler under USB? (If this is a FW/1394 device, this won't apply...)
If not you could try an alternate port and see if that helps. I have had situations where specific devices could not be on the same USB Bus as another device... moving them between open USB ports helped as the Buses are not obviously defined.

  • Downloads/purchases from AppleTV versus iTunes

When I purchase a movie on iTunes (on my computer or iPhone) it immediately begins downloading and is added immediately to my "purchased" list on AppleTV.   However, when I purchase a movie from AppleTV, most of the time it does not download and is only available on my AppleTV.   I can usually go to my iTunes account and report the issue, but that means I have to remember to check....Anything I can do to make this happen automatically?

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Another victim of the suddenly-missing AppleTV in iTunes

I picked up my AppleTV a couple of weeks ago, brought it home and synced it successfully to a G4 iMac. Put some content on it, and it ran quite well.
Last night I get home, and iTunes cannot see the device any more. The only variable? Installed the QuickTime "security update" that came down the other night. Can ping the aTV, the router can see it, the aTV can get to the internet and view trailers, did the factory reset twice. AppleTV never appears as a device on iTunes 7.1.1(5) on that machine.
However, my girlfriend's MacBook sees it perfectly. It shows up in the Devices list within seconds and can sync or stream, no problem.
    Steps I've already taken:
    - Powered off the aTV
    - Factory reset the aTV
    - Restarted the wireless router
    - Restarted the G4 iMac
    - Logged in as Administrator and a couple of other users on the iMac
    - Physically removed and reinstalled iTunes on the iMac
    - Verified that I can ping the aTV both from the G4 and the router
    - Verified that all devices are on the same subnet
    - Verified that all devices can be seen by the router
    - Changed channels on the wireless (from 6 to 11)
    - Forced the router to 802.11g-only
    - Read at least ten threads over the last two weeks about similar problems, none of which have conclusive solutions (Apple's troubleshooting page about this pretty much parrots the user guide and is thus useless in this situation).
Without any of these tricks, the MacBook sees it and works with it. Even with all these tricks, the G4 cannot at all.
    Other fun facts:
    - Firewall is not and has never been enabled on the G4
    - Router is not blocking any ports
    - Router configuration has not been changed (except channel as noted above) in weeks
    - All of this used to work on all machines involved
And to restate: this all worked perfectly with the G4 for a couple of weeks. I cannot say that the QuickTime update had anything to do with it, and in fact, the MacBook *got this update too* and still talks to the aTV just fine.
The one thing I haven't done is physically wire the G4 and the aTV to a 10/100 hub and do it wired-style.
I've seen several threads about this, as I said. Nobody seems have come up with a reliable solution and there seems to be a lot of casting-about for possible solutions instead of Apple investigating this properly.

OK, even further update... it turns out that the installer for the new EyeTV 2.4 AppleTV-compatible software has a problem with the QT 7.1.6 update.
    Here's the scenario:
I redid my iMac back to a known-good configuration from a few weeks ago, before the 7.1.6 update. AppleTV now appeared on the Device list just fine, synced up, did everything perfectly.
I installed the 7.1.6 update, and Apple TV STILL worked perfectly!
Then I ran the installer for EyeTV 2.40, and as soon as I gave consent for it to modify some device driver it was using, which I assume means it tweaked QuickTime or iTunes somehow, AppleTV disappeared from Devices, iTunes stopped working correctly, and EyeTV itself would frequently hang.
Reverted back to the next-earlier EyeTV, pulled a good copy of iTunes from my earlier image, and everything started working again.
Late yesterday, Elgato sent me a link to a new beta version of 2.40, which apparently addresses this problem. It has been reported only by users of PowerPC machines, which is why my fiancee's MacBook didn't have a problem. The new patched code works nicely with 7.1.6 and everything works again.
    Here's the patched 2.4:
    http://s3.amazonaws.com/eyetvbeta/eyetv24_betabuild2654.zip
I'll post another thread about this with a better subject so that EyeTV owners can find it and deal with it.

  • IPhoto update to 8.1.1:no longer able to sync photos to AppleTV with iTunes

I have Itunes 9.0.2 (25) and just updated iPhoto 8.1.1 (419) and when I try to synch with my AppleTv 3.0.1 I get an error -50 trying to sync the photos. If I unselect photo sync it will work sync just fine.
Also I am now unable to select individual events or photos. That option is now grayed out in ITunes. Did this new update change the iPhoto library format so it is not recognized by iTunes?
I have tried reinstalling both iTunes and iPhoto no help. I also rebuilt the iPhoto library
    Help!

I found the problem. This is a new bug introduced in 8.1 of iPhoto.
    According to iPhotoManager:
Another recently introduced problem, which appears to only happen with iPhoto 8.1, has to do with music that you've assigned to a custom slideshow. If you have created a slideshow in iPhoto, and using the "Settings" button, have assigned a song from your iTunes library to be played with that slideshow, then if that song has an ampersand (&) character anywhere in the path to the music file (this can include the name of the artist, the album, or the song itself), iPhoto does not write it out correctly to the XML file and you get an error. If you do have a music file assigned to a slideshow, you will either need to assign a different song, or remove any ampersands in the path to the song and re-select the same song in iPhoto to update it to the new location. (make sure to click "Apply" in the settings window to make your change "stick").
This was my problem. I had a song from Simon & Garfunkel in a slideshow and the Path to the song had the & that was malformed.
I removed the slideshow and I am now working.
Apple please fix this bug. I wasted over 5 hours until I went and purchased iPhoto Library Manager and it immediately pointed out the problem.

  • HT3180 How can I restart the AppleTV using iTunes?

I need to restart my AppleTV (according to other support posts) but I the remote restart and/or power down restart doesn't work.
I thought I would try using iTunes but iTunes doesn't seem to recognize the AppleTV even though it is connected to the computer.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Hey there susnil,
It sounds like you have an image on the screen showing to connect the device to your computer with the usb cord but iTunes and the computer are not recognizing the iPhone. According to the following article you should choose one of these articles to help that depedning on your operating system:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you don't see your device in iTunes, follow these steps for Mac or these for Windows.
When you can see the device in iTunes, I would follow the same article to help with getting out of Recovery Mode.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • AppleTV in iTunes Speaker List?

I'd like to add a new AppleTV to an existing wireless network with multiple Airport Expresses streaming music to different parts of my home. Will the AppleTV show up in my iTunes speaker list, allowing me to stream music to it simultaneously with my AXs? Or can I only access my iTunes library through the AppleTV's on-screen menus?
Since I'd be adding this to my Home Theater, I would love the extra functionality of being able to stream movies and photos to my new 50" plasma. But it's important to be able to stream the same music to the whole house...
    NB

I have the exact same issue. Everything is up to date, and it used to be able to do this. My main goal is to be able to be streaming to multiple speakers again like I was able to do before. This just stopped working with no major software changes in iTunes or AppleTV. I did just upgrade to Lion though, so I think it may be a Lion issue.

  • Missing Options for AppleTV in iTunes

After the upgrade, all went fine I thought, in iTunes when I select the AppleTV form the device menu, there are only tabs for Info and Photo's. It is missing all the ones for Movies, Podcasts, Music, etc. I tried several times to delete the device in iTunes and re add it but to no avail.
    Any ideas ?

Yes, turn on sync. Sync and streaming are now combined.
I just wrote this in another response:
I just figured out to no longer use steaming (I use to stream as well due to my LARGE iTunes library). Apple now has the streaming and sync combined. Under the new sync, iTunes only transfers what you tell it to, to the Apple TV, but we can still look through the iTunes library and stream content from it.
What I did was to go to iTunes preferences, remove the Apple TV, then get a new code from the Apple TV, and the new sync automatically comes on. You'll then note that on the first Apple TV tab in iTunes, you'll see the option whether or not to show only synced items. I have left this option off, so from the Apple TV, and shows/ music not synced can still be found... and streamed.
However, by this method, photos will no longer stream (but it's not a big deal for me as photos aren't that large).
