AppleTV needs WIFI reconfigured too often

My AppleTV loses connection to my Airport Extreme base station (802.11n). Every couple of days I need to configure wireless again on the AppleTV.
The tv display shows that it still knows the Network Name and has an IP Address. However it does not know the Router address or the DNS address. As strong signal strength is displayed.
I don't broadcast the network name. It is a mixed config on the AEB (801.11n and 801.11g). I am using WPA password.
Generally I don't lose the connection overy night... but after two or more days of not using the AppleTV I will have to re-configure.
Any ideas on what is wrong?

Sure, provided you have an Apple Airport router. If you have some other brand you'll have to Google it
0) First, find out the MAC addresses for your iMac and AppleTV(s) (See separate procedures at end)
1) Open Airport Utility and double-click your router.
2) Click on the round 'Internet' icon.
3) Click on the DHCP tab.
4) You'll see a numeric DHCP beginning address of the form AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD where "AAA", etc are all numbers (on mine it is 10.0.1.2)
5) You'll also see a DHCP Ending Address like AAA.BBB.CCC.EEE (where EEE is a bigger number than DDD above (mine says 10.0.1.200)
6) Click on the [+] below the DHCP Reservations box.
7) Type in a meaningful description like "appleTV" or "iMac"
8) Make sure "Reserve address by MAC Address" is checked. (I don't know how to set it up the other way!)
9) Click Continue
10) Type in the MAC address of the device (it takes the form II:JJ:KK:LL:MM:NN)
11) Type in the final 1-3 digit(s) of the ipv4 address (the first digits, "AAA.BBB.CCC", should already be filled in for you. Just enter a unique number here.
12) Once you've entered a unique number, the Done key should un-grey automatically. Click it!
Repeat for the other device(es)
_To find the wireless or wired MAC address(es) of your iMac (depending on how it's connected):_
i) Click on the apple symbol in the top left hand corner of the screen.
ii) Click on "About This Mac"
iii) Click on "More info"
iv) In the left hand list, click on Network.
v) In the upper panel, click on either Airport, or Ethernet depending on how you connect.
vi) In the lower panel, look for "Ethernet:" and below it "MAC Address". It takes the form: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX where 'X' can be any digit 0-9 or letter a-f. (Note that it reads "Ethernet" regardless of whether you're looking at wired or wireless. Seems odd, but there you go!)
_To find the wireless MAC address(es) of your AppleTV_
On the AppleTV: Settings --> General --> Network. It's labelled "Wireless ID"
You'll need to set up a separate ip address reservation for your iMac and each AppleTV (at least, that's what I did. I actually set up reservations for ALL my wireless devices now). If you mess up one, just highlight it in the listbox and click the '-' button (below the listbox) to delete it.
Good luck.

  • Hard drive needing repairs far too often

lately, I've had issues with my boot disk (internal HD). it tells me that I need to repair it every other day. what can I do to fix the issue? I've been repairing it, but it never seems to get fully 'fixed'! thanks

Wan, Try running your Apple Hardware Test . It's not perfect, but may flag something.
You may have a hard drive going bad or bad RAM causing directory corruption, something like that. Maybe not the whole Mac going south.
A more thorough test for RAM is the free Rember.
    Use the extended test also.
Here's a nice faq on RAM testing.

  • Mac needs to force restart too often

My mac keeps giving me an image on the screen (http://cjmiscfiles.webs.com/20110124211705.jpg) which says I need to force restart my Mac. I got this message 2 times in a week, and I got it once before. I just got my Mid-2010 Mac when it was first out, and I'm concerned that it might be breaking already. Please help!

Yeah I've been getting these force reboots as well, way too often, like 3 in the past 2 days actually, often within minutes of each other even after the reboot.

The Apple sales rep told me I could use Airplay Mirroring between my iPad2 and AppleTV 2 via bluetooth and I didn't need wifi. Is that true?

    No. AirPlay is via Wi-Fi.

I just bought a new Motorola modem. Do I need to reconfigure my Airport Express? For some reason we have WiFi even though the amber light is blinking.

Typically, when changing out networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power reset of all of your networking equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Does AppleTV need a constant internet connection?

Do you need to be connected to the Internet via Airport all the time for Apple TV to work at all?
I have TV shows recorded on Ice TV and then exported to iTunes.
I connected to the Internet initially to set up the AppleTV device and was able to watch a show but now it connects to the network but either doesn't see the iTunes library or has a spinning wheel for AGES and then says to turn on Home Sharing but it IS turned on!

in the home sharing support page it says that a wifi or ethernet connected to a home network with an active internet connection is needed in order for home sharing to work.
if there is a way around this i would really like to know... i posted a thread 4 days and askd if a network is needed (wifi or wired) for an apple tv 2 to work. and the replies i received confirmed that i need to have an internet connection for the apple tv 2 to work.
as for for "winstons" question. my entire itunes library is stored on a nas drive connected to my airport extreme. i have no problem in streaming "content" ie movies, music & photo's to my apple tv 2. in fact it has worked flawlessly for the last 6 months that i have had my apple tv 2.
i also was hoping that an active internet connection wasn't needed in order for my apple tv 2 to work, so i disconnected the modem from my router to see if i could still stream content to my apple tv... the apple tv could see my library on the nas drive but could not access it. once reconnected the modem it worked again. so if there is a way around having an active internet connection in order for the apple tv 2 to work i would like to know myself.
    thank you

  • HT1595 Cannot connect Appletv to wifi network

Appletv doesn't see my wifi network. It doesn't see it when I enter my IP address manually. Help?

If there is no network entering an IP address does nothing since it would not beable to connect to that IP.  If your WiFi network is not comming up it might be one of the things below.  While it is possible to use AppleTV with WiFi and will mostly work it is not extreamely reliable.  Streaming video, espeically HD video over WiFi usally does not work that well for very long.  So you would probably be better off using a wired connection.  It is up to you though.
    Things to look into:
        1.  ATV may be too far from the router.
        2.  The router my be set to not broad cast it's SID which would prevent connecting devices from seeing it.
        3.  The router might have MAC address filtering turned on which could be preventing ATV from being able to cnnect to it.
         4.  The router might be configured to use one of the Enterprise encryption standards that ATV does not support.

  • You have attempted to login too often...

We recently got Wi-fi set up in our house, since then ichat will not work. I will log in and it shows that none of my friends are online, then after about 2 or 3 minutes Ichat will log out then log in rapidly on its own. Then I get a message that says. "You have attempted to login too often in a short period of time. wait a few minutes before trying to login again." Then when I try to login again the same thing happens. can anyone help?

    Hi,
It can be for a Number of reasons.
One speculation is that the AIM servers get busy with AIM and ICQ members and now BEBO all using the same port. (not to mention all the apps that can log into AIM and the AOL ISP Browser that can IM)
As iChat uses port 5190 on the TCP Protocol to Login but uses port 5190 on UDP to Send Files, Pics in Chats & Direct Messaging and certain Buddy List updates Buddies coming and going) - some routers and modems that route do not seem to like this double use of port 5190 (it certainly effects Zyxels devices).
Sort of related, with Devices set up to Port Forward, a port can normally only be forwarded once (to one IP), so this seems, to some that specify Protocols as well, as doing it twice.
Apple have an Article that I don't have link for about Some Netgears needing to change this port.
More generally though port 443 is open in most routers and routing modems as it is under the threshold of 1024.
All ports below this are open.
It allows Web Browsers and Mail apps to use the ports they use without any set up.
Several routers can be linked together without any input and these apps will still work.
Port 443 is used by secure Web Sites such as Banks and the like and the Apple Discussions Login Page.
It is also used by mail apps to access some mail servers.
Therefore dropping the login port in iChat to this port is likely to find it is open in any router.
Pre Leopard the above also used to apply to the way the Mac Firewall worked as ports had to be specifically listed. This means if a ports is open for one app other apps can "Piggy Back" that usage.
In Leopard the App is "Certificated" and even if it allows a Port it will not be open for another app that is nt allowed to use the firewall.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Flash Player Updates too often

Flash Player Updates are too often.
Just last week or so I finished updating the 500+ computers we have here at Kahakai Elementary School to version 15.9.
Now they all have to be updated to flash version 16.0
The students can't get to the test web page without the correct flash, it won't load with v15.9 it now wants v16.0
The students are NOT allowed to install/update software on the computers.
Can you at least NOT UPDATE FLASH for a 3 month window?

There have been three updates in December 2014 I think. I have several computers. Despite the fact that in the Global Settings, Advanced, I have the radio button for "Allow updates (recommended)" checked, I still need to download a file, click on it several times, and remember to unclick the extremely annoying McAlfee download (Grrrr, which bombarded as I am with updates on all my computers I have forgotten to do which installs a very power consuming program, which I then have to uninstall) which takes time.
On windows 8 the proxy settings can get in the way of the download requiring hours of work.
I would prefer not to download flash at most once a year not THREE TIMES A MONTH.
But perhaps I should be grateful to be using this software for free? or switch to HTML 5? There are firefox addins that allow one to choose, apparently.

  • Why does my iBookPro drop its WiFi connection so often?

My question: why does my iBookPro drop it WiFi connection so often, and what can I do to prevent it (or at least extend the duration of active connection)?
I have an iBookPro running OSX 10.9.5, with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM.  I think my iBookPro is about 3 or 4 years old.
What seems to happen is that I will use my iBookPro accessing mail & websites for a few minutes, and then when I try to send an e-mail, mail puts up a message that it cannot send mail with the selected server, so I need to either try a different server or try later.  Meanwhile I notice that the WiFi signal indicator shows full service, but when I run diagnostics it shows that the internet is not connected.  Opening the WiFi icon in the top menu bar shows that it is looking for Networks.  After an indeterminate time it finds the network I have had highlighted and logged into (my WiFi -5G router) since I opened my iBook when I arrived at my office.
I often find I have to turn WiFi off, then back on, to get connection with the internet.
What's going on, and what am I missing?

    Hello jBookProAm,
If you are having issues with your MacBook Pro with maintaining a Wi-Fi connection, then take a look at the articles below to get it sorted out. The first article will talk about using Wireless Diagnostics, which you have already done, but also you look at the additional troubleshooting within the article for assistance. You may want to also create a new location as another troubleshooting option and those steps are in the second article.

  • Why do you need WiFi to watch a downloaded movie?

I bought a movie on my Ipod touch and watched half of it. Then when I went to finish it, It would not come on due to "no Wifi connection". Why do I need WiFi connection to watch a movie I just downloaded?

There's downloading and streaming. And often hard to tell the two apart.
Downloading means that the files are stored on your device, streaming means that you simply access them, but need to be on the net to do so. It sounds like you were streaming a movie, not downloading one.

  • Ichat/login to AIM too often

I continue to get an error message from iChat that i have logged in to AIM too often in a short period of time and need to wait to log in again. When i wait, I can occassionally get in, but then I get kicked out again and start the process over. Has anyone else had this problem? Any settings that might help with this?
    Thanks
    drew

Ok so ios 5 sposed to be pc free , but i dont have wifi but have unlimeted 3g well 450gb yes gb !! But i cant face time or down load app bigger than 20mb !!! That aint fair no backup over 3g ? Shouldnt it be our choice how much data we use ? Maybe a warning to say about data ! Thats all its my 3g not apples plz apple let me get bigger apps an face time

That just makes no sense. If you want WiFi for whatever devices you have, you get internet access. I have an AppleTV, a PS3, a couple of phones, a scale (yup, the kind you weigh yourself with) that use WiFi. And, of course an iPad. Even if I didn't have a computer, I'd still need WiFi.
And, at this moment, I'm sitting in a cafe using WiFi. I don't have a computer. I'm using my iPad. As I said, access to WiFi has nothing to do with being "PC free".

  • I purchased OSX 10.8 can I put it on my wifes computer too even though she has a different apple ID?

I purchased OSX 10.8 and it is on 2 of my computers can I put it on my wifes computer too even though she has a different apple ID?

The OS X license states that you can install it on as many computers as YOU own and control. So, technically speaking, your wife needs to get her own license; however, if you both use the same Apple ID......
FWIW, the license is not transferable, so if you sell/gift your computer, you must uninstall it and reinstall the original system (or the buyer will encounter major problems such as not being able to reinstall the OS if necesssary).

  • How to solve the issue that VMs are automatically reboot too often in RAC ?

    Folks,
Hello. I have been installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC using 2 VMs (main VM rac1 and slave VM rac2) with Oracle Linux 5.6 according to the website http://appsdbaworkshop.blogspot.com/2011/10/11gr2-rac-on-linux-56-using-vmware.html
The problem is that the 2 VMs are automatically reboot too often if I don't touch keyboard for a while. All programs running in the VM are gone and need to be restarted.
    My question is:
How to have the VMs be stable and not to reboot if I don't touch keyboard for a while ?
