AppleTV no longer accepts iTunes library to sync

Hi!
I have an AppleTV (160G) and a PC laptop (XP Pro)running iTunes. The AppleTV worked perfectly out of the box: found my network, found my iTunes, synced my music over about four days (I have about 60G of music). But when I upgraded iTunes to the latest version (7.4.2.4), iTunes was no longer able to see the AppleTV. When I visit the AppleTV source menu, it says “Library not found.”
However, when I use the AppleTV to look for additional iTunes sources, it finds my laptop’s iTunes library just fine. So it can see it as an ancillary source, but no longer as the main source. How do I get them to reconnect? The network is fine, the connection is possible, but somehow my laptop’s iTunes has lost its status as primary library.
I don’t want to just reset everything, because it looks like the AppleTV will erase all the music it’s holding if I switch primary libraries, and frankly, I don’t want to spend another four days recopying content to it just to have it go south again when the next iTunes upgrade comes along.
Can anyone please advise me?
Thank you!

What library does ATV say it's synced to?

My books are no longer in the iTunes library on my MacBook Pro. They are not in my iBooks, either. I had over 200 books in my iTunes library, all synced to my iPad 2. I deleted them from the iPad as I read them, knowing I still had them in iTunes. Then I updated to iOS 7. I still have the books I haven't deleted from my iPad, but all the other ones are nowhere to be found. No books in iTunes, no books in iBooks. Where are they? Also, going forward, if I want to add more books to my iPad, especially PDFs that are not available for purchase from the iBooks store, how do I do that? Help!

let's try working through this document. (you can skip the reinstall itunes step.)

  • Not all my songs in my itunes library are synced to my ipod

Why not all my songs in itunes library are synced to my ipod classic?

Have you set iTunes to Sync all the music to your iPod?
If you have set it up as step 1, did you also select Sync only ticked songs and videos on the Summary pane?
If you chose step 2, are the songs mising form the iPod ticked in your Library? If not, that's why they are not on your iPod.
Alternatively, where are you looking for the songs on your iPod? For example, If you cannot find the artist on the artist menu, have you looked under the album title or the song's title?

  • Sync AppleTV with multiple accounts' iTunes library on the SAME Mac

I was wondering if this was supported in the new 3.0 release. I found an archived thread from 2007 which stated this was not supported but wondering if anybody was successfully doing this, or has a work around for getting both my and my wife's iTunes libraries (on the same Mac) to sync to the AppleTV.
    Thanks!

no, you can still only sync from 1 itunes library.

  • I no longer have iTunes library.xml on my PC but I have all of my songs.  How do I download them to my iPhone - it won't allow me to drag and drop though my PC recognizes the device.

My PC has all of my iTunes and it recognizes my iPhone 4 device but I cannot drag and drop the songs.  How do I copy the songs to my new iPhone without having to re-purchase everything?  Unfortunately, It appears I no longer have iTunes Music Library.xml on my PC.

My husband and I are using the same iTunes account on all mac & pc computers, but the libraries are different on each machine.  We always manually manage our music (no auto sync).  iTunes is up to date on the PCs.  My husband uses our joint iTunes account on his pc, but once again, has a different collection in his library from those on the other machines.  He can't load any music from his PC to his iphone 4.  I can load music from my mac library to my iphone 4s, but cannot load from my pc library to my iphone 4s.  How can I switch my main library that it syncs with from the mac to the pc?
    Thanks

  • Apple TV no longer "sees" iTunes library

    1.  Our Apple TV is no longer playing nice with our Mac.
    2.  iTunes on our Mac no longer plays nice with an external screen.
    SPECS:
We have a 3rd generation Apple TV (3.2) running software version 6.0 (6646.65).
Our internet is via cellular on either an iPad mini or an iPad (4th generation); both are running iOS 7.1.2.
Our MacBook Pro, where the iTunes library lives, is running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4.
    That iTunes is version 11.3.
    1.  Our Apple TV is no longer playing nice with our Mac.
This morning, all was working as it should.  This evening, the Apple TV is connecting to the internet via the "hotspot" on the iPad (4th generation).  The MacBook Pro is using the same network.  All three devices can connect to the internet, but the Apple TV is no longer "seeing" the Mac or the iPad (and they don't "see" the Apple TV, either).  Neither the computer nor the iPad will see the Apple TV to mirror with it, even though they are all on the same wireless network (again, provided by the iPad).  The Apple TV does not know that iTunes on the Mac is online.
Yes, iTunes on the Mac can connect to the iTunes Store.
Yes, homesharing on the iTunes is still turned on.
No known changes have been made to any of the three devices.
Restarting the Apple TV and the Mac didn't fix the problem.
It was just working this morning, and this evening it isn't.
    2.  iTunes on our Mac no longer plays nice with an external screen.
After re-booting the Apple TV didn't work, and still wanting to have a movie night, I connected the computer to the display used by the Apple TV.  The screen and the Mac could talk to each other.  My default is to have the larger flatscreen tv set up as an extended screen.  That worked for everything except for iTunes.  I could shift iTunes to the extra screen.  But when I started the movie, it would only play on the Macbook, leaving the extra screen only displaying our desk wallpaper.
Next I tried to set the screens to "mirror."  That started to take, but then would not.  "Aha," I thought.  "Maybe this is the problem with the Apple TV, too?"  So I rebooted the Mac.  That fixed the mirroring problem.  Except for iTunes.  When trying to play a movie in "mirror" mode, it would only play on the Mac, and the extra screen would go black.
This is a completely new problem that we've not seen before.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
ps:  the Apple TV is downloading the software update as I type ... but we'll go to bed long before it is likely to finish downloading.

!!! Apple waht have you done !!!
We have equiped our house with 5 Apple-TV's 3. Gen. and an Apple-Server (MacMini 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and since about 6 Month's i'm going nuts.
The Apple TV's are having randomly problem to connect to iTunes-Library (via WiFi) no matter how near or far they are away from the router.
after switching off and on iTunes all works fine. BUT THIS IS ******* ENNOYING (excuse my french). It looks to me that there is a stupid time-out
in the SW that somehow drops the WiFi. The issue could be the reconnect doesn't work. Did anybody ever investigated on this ?????
I found some forums where the apple-support was handling this with the update of the iTunes-SW and with the AppleTV-SW. Unfortunately this still doesn't work here. I even installed a new WiFi router (Apple Air Port Time Capsule) but didn't change anything !!! It looks like the stuff is getting pure quality !!!!!
Anyone having any suggestion or expiriencing the same issue please reply. It would be highly appreciated for any constructive help from Apple since is a killer
kriterium to buy more apple stuff !!! It all worked fine for more then a year and suddenly ...booooom ... and we have this ****-service now !!! What a good advertisement for apple. !!! What you think i will answer anybody asking me .... ohhh you have a few AppleTV's here can you recommend them ????
SO PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TV Show shows on AppleTV but not in iTunes library

I've been adding TV shows from various sources to iTunes for awhile now and watching them on my TV through home sharing to the appleTV. For awhile this has all worked great. However, tonight I've run into a strange issue: On the AppleTV, under the home sharing from this local computer, I am seeeing episodes of shows which are not listed in the iTunes library. For example, one show in iTunes shows me episdes 11, 12 and 14, whereas on the AppleTV, it is showing me 11,12, 13 and 14! I count 11 shows that have missing episodes.
I have a workflow setup where the video files are tagged appropriately, then placed in the "automatically add to itunes" folder and iTunes handles it from there. I have my media folder location setup on an external drive and iTunes set to keep my media organized. Looking in the itunes folder, I see the files for the "missing" episodes are there. When I try to play the episodes on the AppleTV, they play fine.
I tried to "add to library" again the missing episode, but nothing seems to happen. I have restarted iTunes and the computer. Tried disconnecting and reconnecting the external drive. I even looked in the "iTunes Library.xml" file and the episodes are listed in that file.
Any suggestiosn on how to get what is showing in iTunes to sync with what is actually in my iTunes library?? Thanks for any advice!

Managed to get this fixed tonight. Followed the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451 to recreate the library file from the xml file and all looks good now!

  • ITunes library not syncing to iPod touch, please help!!!

Hi! I hesitated to upgrade to iOS 6.0.1 until all my songs from my iPod disappeared (but all the songs are still in iTunes library). I thought it was the problem with the software, so I upgraded my iPod to the current version iOS 6.0.1 and itunes to 10.7.
I am on a Window 7 OS. I tried to uninstall the iTunes software, and tried installing it again. I thought the Apple Mobile Device was disabled, but no. I tried restarting it from Administrative Tools. Not working as well. I don't want to restore to the manufacture version since I have so many things on my iPod. It would be great if you guys can suggest something other than restoring. Thank you so much!
    Erica

ok, so i figured this out... when i connect my ipod and go to the "tv shows tab" i had the option to sync only the "unwatched episodes" checked. so the shows that i watched on my computer would not download to my iPod. If you select "all" instead of "unwatched" then all of the tv shows regardless if you have watched them or not, will begin to download... Thanks for the help everybody

  • Some videos not showing up on AppleTV from iMac's iTunes library

Having a strange problem. Not sure if it is an iTunes problem or an AppleTV problem but I will try here first.
I have several videos in my library, some of which are digitized home videos I edited/rendered, others are AppleTV converted DVD's I own. For some reason, many of them are not showing up on my AppleTV when I go into "Computers" off the main menu and select my iMac with the iTunes library of them. Some show up, but more and more do not. They are all properly formatted and done so using Compressor settings for AppleTV. No idea why some are not showing up.
If you look on the iMac with the library on it, they all show up fine. And if I try and play the video on my iMac but tell it to use AirPlay to play the video on the AppleTV, it plays just fine on the TV/AppleTV. I do have Home Sharing turned on for ALL my media and I also use iTunes Match service.
When I try and use my iPad to access videos under the "shared" option and select my iMac's iTunes library, I get the same incomplete list. So I am thinking it's the iTunes library that's sending out an incomplete list for some reason. No idea why.
I have tried drag-and-dropping the videos into the iTunes library as well as using the "Add to library" menu command, neither makes a difference.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Also - i had a similar issue - lots of movies in itunes - not showing up as selectable on apple tv - i found that you have to go to "list" in itunes and select any movies i wanted to be selectable when i switched to the apple tv device - can someone please create a word for - "my software changes and somehow i'm an idiot for not knowing what magic the programmers are throwing down" - this too will change in the future - just need the happy customer service types to maintain a voice with the programmers and bottom line guys and gals.

  • How do i unsync my iphone from itunes library and sync it to a different one without wiping my phone

I bought an iphone 5c and synced it to a windows 7 thinkpad laptop. I backed it up on this device and transferred music off there to my iphone. I recently had an acer aspire e15 laptop and downloaded itunes so i could now do everything i did on my old laptop on to this one, but it isn't letting me unless i sync my phone and wipe its memory. Although i can restore my phone it doesn't restore the music. So is there a way to unsync from one itunes library to another without wiping my data, or is there a way to transfer the music off my phone to my new itunes library so when i restore my phone its easy to restore the music i had on it previously.

The warning message provided is all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased, not all settings and data. The same applies when selecting to transfer any photos from the new computer. If you had a computer backup for your old computer that included your iTunes library and all photos on your iPhone that were transferred from your computer that could be transferred to your new computer, this wouldn't be a problem.
iTunes includes an option to transfer all iTunes content on your iPhone that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes Store. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. Or with your iPhone connected, right click on your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Transfer Purchases.
There are some 3rd party utilties that provide for transferring photos from an iPhone that were transferred to the iPhone from a computer, but the original resolution of these photos will be lost. When transferring photos from a computer, the photos are optimized for viewing on the iPhone. The same utilities provide for transferring music from an iPhone that was not purchased from the iTunes Store.
Contacts, settings, and photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are not affected by this.

  • Deleting songs from itunes Library and syncing

I have loaded up my nano with most of my personal cd's and some purchased songs. I'd like to delete most of the songs off of the itunes library (sorta seems like double kill since they are on my nano and computer)...I really only need them in one spot and I could use the space on my computer. My question is when I do another CD or a purchased song and re-synch my ipod nano, will I lose everything that I have put on my nano and just get the new songs? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
      Windows XP

And I will second that. Storing music on your iPod and nowhere else is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music would be erased. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this about backing up media.

  • Sharing an iTunes library for syncing with an iPhone

Not sure if this belongs in iTunes or iPhone thread but here goes. My wife and I have our own profiles on our Mac. Right now all the music/video is in my iTunes library. We are both getting iPhones and I want both of us to be able to sync the music/video from iTunes (maybe from some shared library folder) but I want her mail/contacts/addresses/etc. to synch on her phone and mine to synch with mine. She will be logged in to her account when she syncs and I'll be logged into my account when I sync. Is this possible with iTunes? Can we put the iTunes music/video in a shared folder that we both attach to and yet still sync our iPhones with our own info? I'd prefer not to duplicate the iTunes library in both accounts because that just wastes space. Any ideas?

My husband and I have the exact same question. Have you figured this out? We were getting ready to share our music library and then panicked realizing that this might then totally mess up our synching to our own separate iPhones.
Any info would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
