AppleTV preset, but for 1080p settings

I have some 1080p videos I'd like to compress to be viewable on a couple HD media devices (WD TV and PS3). Quicktime Player AppleTV export preset produces perfectly compatible files, but is limited to 720p.
What would be similar settings, but for 1080p output? I have no idea what to limit the data rate to.

  • Deleted default Photoshop CS5 Save for Web settings, but they return after a restart

How do I permanently delete the default Save for Web settings that come with Photoshop CS5? (Default Settings.iros, Background Image.iros, etc)
In CS4 you deleted them once, and they were gone. In CS5, if you delete them, they are recreated when you restart PS. Same goes for any Optimized Settings (GIF 32 Dithered.irs, JPEG Low.irs, etc), they simply can't be permanently removed, and I'm left scrolling through a long menu of things I'll never use.
I have no use for XHTML.iros, GIF 32 Dithered.irs, or any of these settings, just like I have no use for most of the stock presets in PS, why can't I customize these presets like I can customize everything else?

Yes, they are, how do I stop that?
I don't know that you can.
Ok, we have a way to save them, but not delete them, so what if I accidentally Save one I don't want? Or what if I Save one now, but later don't want it anymore. We're supposed to infer Adobe didn't intend us to ever Delete custom settings we Saved ourselves?!
I suppose there's an implication that you'll be given the defaults by Photoshop, but that anything you create yourself can be deleted by yourself.  I admit it's not a very clear interface.  For what it's worth, my own applications provide an explicit "Delete" capability, have defaults that don't manifest as actual files (and are always at the top of the list), and the app doesn't allow you to even try to delete the application-provided settings (Delete is grayed-out).  I thought the whole settings thing through and tried to make sure it was more clear than parts of the Photoshop interface:
    > Have you found some documentation from Adobe that states that you can effectively customize your installation by deleting these files?
    Yes, in the FAQ: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
Well, from what I can see that thread was written by someone other than an Adobe Employee, and it doesn't mention .iros files at all.
And what it seems to say is that you can reset your preferences to defaults (i.e., invoke auto-generation of a new prefs file) by deleting the old prefs file, which is what's happening for you.

So here's my problem. I just used the "reset all settings" option, and accidentaly restored an old backup. It deleted all my photos and contacts, but for some reason I still have all the apps from after the backup date, and it also kept the notes from after the backup. The "reset all settings" option clearly says no loss of data or media, so I don't understand why some stuff got deleted. My question is, is there a way to get it back?

If you still can find a recent backup listed in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, use this one to restore from.
If there are no recent backups listed, your data is gone. Only if you included the iTunes backup folder into your computer backup routine, you could be able to restore this folder and find one of your latest backups listed again.

  • Which Playback Setting for 1080P

    Right setup is:
    Blackmage Decklink HD
    Final Cut Studio 2
    External Monitor connected through HD-SDI
    Footage XDCAM-EX 1080P 25fps
My question is purely to do with External Playback. The sequence we are editing in is fine because we just match settings.
So in External Playback Settings which one do we choose from the List.
    We normally shoot 1080 50i - so i normally choose "Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 25hz 10bit 1920 x 1080" and all works fine.
However I want to choose a progressive setting to make sure playback on monitor is perfect but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent setting in the presets.
There are 1080P settings but they aren't 25hz but 24 and 23.xxx settings which when we choose means the monitor will only show a still. Which normally indicates and incompatible mode.
At the moment we are using the 1080i setting and it looks pretty good but "appears" to be a little motion blurred which i assume is the incorrect interlacing setting.
Any help would be much appreciated.. and do let me know you need more information.
    Cheers
    Rob

Thanks for the reply guys much apprecaited.. the monitory we are using is a Sony LMD2450. Which I hope is a nice monitor as it cost enough and lets us view at full pixels. We are connected to it using HD-SDI
    http://www.sony.co.uk/biz/view/ShowProduct.action?product=LMD-2450W
Glad we have the correct setting for Blackmagic and think any slight weirdness in movement was us just expecting there to be some because of the setting.
Sorry to ask another question but is there any good tutorials about setting up a monitor to work with FCP eg. for Colour Correction applications...
    Cheers and thanks again

Can anyone tell me how I keep everything I had in my old photoshop, now I've updated to Photoshop CC 2014.  It did give me the option to transport over all my presets, but because I didn't have internet access at the time, it couldn't do it.  Now I'm not getting the option.  Please help.

Migrating Presets does not require a network connection and you can still migrate your cc presets if you still have CC installed.  Use Photoshop menu Edit>Presets>Migrate Presets...  Migrating presets only migrates presets.  It does not migrate Plugins, settings, extensions and scripts.  CC 2014 is also not completely backwards compatible with CC.  Support for Flash Panels and Oil Painter filter have been removed.  So extensions like mini bridge no longer work in CC 2014

  • AppleTV:  Good Medium for Final-Cut-Studio-Generated HD Home Video?

I've been shooting HD for several years, long before HDDVD or BluRay came out. I've been assuming that eventually a good HD medium, mostly just for home movies, will come out.
However, now that BluRay does exist, I'm not sure that it's the best viewing medium for home movies. BluRay drives and disks still seem to be pretty rare and expensive whereas hard disks are very cheap. That, plus my particular BluRay player won't play recorded BluRay disks anyway.
So it suddenly occurred to me: Should I just typically use Apple TV for my FCS-generated HD home movies?
Just speaking in generalities, what do you folks think are the positives and negatives of taking that approach?
Concerns that pop into mind might include: First, the 160GB hard-disk space. I'm guessing that might be 10-20 feature-length HD home-movie productions? Well, maybe that's fine... Second, does AppleTV have any provisions for typical DVD-menu features, like alternate soundtracks, subtitles, and especially, chapter selection menus?
    Thanks for your thoughts!

I think the first point to appreciate is that the tv will only play up to 720p content, in reality though you'd likely end up creating 540p movies as at 720p the tv will only work at 24/25 fps. I suppose it all depends on what you think of this reduction in resolution versus convenience.
There is no doubt that 540p isn't 1080p but for many tv users the difference is not significant enough to outweigh the convenience. Personally I'm just glad to get my numerous home videos onto the tv in a way that the whole family can just click and watch without needing to connect various cables, understand difficult interfaces, look for missing/damaged disks etc etc.
I wouldn't worry about storage, my library is now on a 4 TB external drive attached to my mac, I stream all my content to the tv and don't see any need to put any of it on the tv itself. Of course this relies on the mac being available whenever we want to watch something via the tv.
The tv can play alternate sound tracks, subtitles and does include for chapter selection. Of these adding subtitles may be the area of most difficulty, alternate sound tracks and chapters should be quite simple given your background.
Of late the tv also supports additional features such as bonus tracks and the like that would often be found on a typical DVD, however this is a relatively new feature and to my knowledge there is no easy way of adding home made extras.
Yes the tv does run very hot, or at least appears to. In fact id only consumes around 20 W (48 W peak) and it's unique approach to heat dissipation through its casing often gives the wrong impression about heat.
Some people do have issues with the tv, but I think every device will produce issues for someone or another. Most issues seem to relate to network connectivity though which is generally an area outside the control of the tv.
I think for you the primary consideration may be the tv resolution, I have no issues with it, I do hope that one day they will update the tv with additional hardware specifications that will allow me to watch my 1080p home video, but for now I just export 2 versions and put the 1080p version away for the future, as no-one in our family is willing to stand around my computer monitor to gain a little extra quality, when they can sit together in the lounge and watch it in comfort.

  • CS4 - Save for Web settings

I'd be grateful for confirmation that I am using the correct Save for Web settings to achieve the colour effect I want.
I am using an sRGB workflow as my output is for the web. I am using a NEC 2690 LCD display which is wide colour gamut but I am using in its factory set sRGB (and non-calibratable) mode. I have calibrated the NEC using my Eye One display and this shows as the default monitor profile in the vga card's driver but what effect it is actually having I am not sure (OS is Vista 32bit). My CS4 colour management settings are based round the sRGB Working Space. Normally I convert to sRGB all images before saving them in Save for Web.
I am trying to ensure that the colours I see in images at the Save for Web stage preview are what I will see on the web and in other non colour managed environments. Specifically, I'd be grateful to know if the following settings seem right for what I am trying to achieve:
    Preset: JPEG High
    Quality: High
Optimize selected (but not Progressive or Embed Colour Profile)
    Convert to sRGB selected
    Preview: Use Document Profile
In the past (pre-CS4) I've had problems with images outside of CS3 looking over colour saturated and I want to avoid this now.
Thanks for any help with this.

That's good, though you you should still try to get the image filesize as small as possible without losing important image details. Many images can support a lower quality JPG setting so you should see how low you can go before you visually see a problem. No sense delivering a higher quality JPG if it's not needed. Higher quality = larger file sizes = longer download time for the webpage.
    > Optimize selected (but not Progressive or Embed Colour Profile)
I prefer 'Progressive' as that loads an image in 3 stages (low->med->fullRez) and looks better on webpages instead of having images load top-to-bottom like a window shade.
    > Convert to sRGB selected
Doesn't hurt to leave it on. Though you said you already converted them before saving for web.
    > Preview: Use Document Profile
I think that "Windows (No Color Management)" will display a better preview of what to expect when the image is displayed on a Windows computer (95% of your visitors) using a web browser that's not color managed (ie: 99% of the windows web browsers - are there any?).
    > In the past (pre-CS4) I've had problems with images outside of CS3 looking over colour saturated and I want to avoid this now.
The previous step should help with this in that you'll at least see what visitors using a decently calibrated monitor will see. But since there really is no standard that most of the world adheres to, you can only do your best to get things right at your end. You cannot control how the rest of the world adjusts or miss-adjusts their equipment.

    12. At a WiFi hotspot, you can't get connected.  The most frequent reason is the login screen for the WiFi hotspot is only able to be connected with a single type of browser.  If Safari doesn't work, try Firefox, Chrome, Omniweb, or Opera.

  • Problem is, when I plug my iPhone 5 into my computer, the computer recognizes the iPhone, but for some reason, iTunes doesn't realize it's there

Alright, I've had this problem for a while now, and I'm at my wit's end. Hope someone can help me.
First of all, I'm running Windows 8.0 on a Lenovo, using iTunes 11.1.5, and an iPhone on iOS 7.0.6.
Problem is, when I plug my iPhone 5 into my computer, the computer recognizes the iPhone, but for some reason, iTunes doesn't realize it's there. On top of that, every time I plug in, my phone gives me the same "Trust this computer?" prompt, like it doesnt recognize the computer I told it to trust 5 seconds ago. A couple times, I got lucky and iTunes dignified me with a "An iPhone has been detected, but could not be identified properly." prompt. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mobile device driver, updating everything, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, resetting my iphone settings, but nothing works. Any ideas?

    How did you do this?
These Unable to Import and Locked Library messages are common symptoms of a damaged database file. As iPhoto Library Manager is unable to rectify the situation you'll need to do a Manual Rebuild as described in this article
