AppleTV radio hangs up frecuently

When I listen a station in AppleTV it frequently hangs up, when it happens I need to chose again the station in the menu. If I play the same station in AppleTV but from iTunes or iPhone with airplay, it does not freeze. What's happening?

Thank you for your comments, they are indeed helpful, particularly to others with your equipment.
However it should also be noted that checking network security settings has been part of the advice given by many here for the particular problem you encountered (tv not showing up in itunes), the problem of course is that security settings vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and help with specific equipment is often beyond those providing help and is often down to the individual to understand the various functions and settings of their own equipment.
Would you consider providing me permission to add your observations to my own help pages.

to get my danish radio station to iTunes I found a place where I could download
an mp3 file which was Continuous
when I added it to iTunes it would default be added to a playlist it would make call "Internet Songs" and when I play it it play what is currently on the radio

ITunes Radio hangs every time it plays a rejoin (You're listening to iTunes Radio).

Every time iTunes plays a rejoin ("You're listening to iTunes Radio"), the channel hangs. Stopping and restarting the stream does not fix the problem. The only solution is to start a second channel for a second, then go back to the original channel.

Same issue since changing Apple ID password. Apple TV won't allow me to play my music of video purchases (says iTunes is currently unavailable). I'm able to play them on my mac and iPad, however. Radio on the other hand is completely crazy on all my devices - when choosing a station it immediately skips through several songs at a rapid pace then gets stuck on the "you're listening to iTunes radio" glitch as described above.
I've done a reset and factory restore of my Apple TV, signed in and out of my Apple ID, reset my router, NOTHING has worked. Apple support was no help.
I'm sorry I have nothing to contribute right now - I'll keep searching and share here if I find a solution.

I'd also appreciate it if someone could tell me when this will happen (if ever) and what the stickingpoint is. Come on Apple - don't make me buy another Roku Soundbridge! I'm so annoyed that I gave away my Internet-Radio-Streaming-Roku-M1000 for an AppleTV that DENIES Internet Radio. What is with that??

I agree - the ability to stream radio through my home stereo would be ideal. iTunes has a radio section, and the musical variety provided by iTunes is far greater than the limited selection of generic stations on my local airwaves. If I can stream radio from iTunes to an airport express, why not through the apple TV to my stereo.
As for the argument that it would eat into sales, I can tell you this much: since I have started listening to KRCW and KEXP (both listed in the radio section of iTunes) I have been downloading more music - I hear something I find interesting, look it up on the station's web site & if I like what I hear, buy it.
My best guess is it might have something to do with the odious RIAA; they are currently attacking any type of media distrubtion that they to not firmly control, saying everything else opens up the doors to rampant 'piracy'.
Here is a great little tip BTW: You can also go to a particular station's website, localize the address of the stream, then create a playlist that points to the website & stream the music through iTunes.

I actually THREW AWAY my last AppleTV and bought a brand new one because of this problem.
And guess what?
After about a week of it working perfectly...
...*it is happening again*.
This is using the latest version of the AppleTV software as well as the latest version of iTunes.
They closed my prior bug report as "unreproducible," and I've filed a new one. Please file one if this is happening to you as well. This is pretty unacceptable.

In my case, however, it happens when I only watch one show after the ATV has been sitting unused all day long - and I know that it has reset a few times on its own (a whole 'nother issue) because I occasionally have to wait for the Apple logo-d restart sequence when switching my receiver over.
I think I am mostly irritated by the fact that Apple just closed the Bug Report as "unreproducible," when I know that other people are having the same problem. I'm hoping that people will actually report the issue rather posting a "me too" on here, ya' know?

Exporting to AppleTv just hangs

Just installed quicktime pro and tried to export to apple tv and QT just hangs at that point. I've found other posts on the net where others have this problem, but there were no answers.
I've tried bringing in the video and export to QuickTime movie and that works. Then I take that video and export to apple tv and it hangs.
Any ideas?

but why don't i get 16x9 (1920x1080) when i select Apple TV when doing export using quicktime conversion? it looks like what i get is the "non-square pixel" version. the entire image is there, but it is squished.

AOL Radio hangs with 1.6

I loaded Java SE 1.6 on two of my computers....AOL Radio would not load on either. Re-installed 1.5 Aol OK....comments?

I'm not in a position to test this but assuming it really doesn't work - There are some documented incompatibilities between java 6 (1.6) and java 5 (1.5). Likely AOL simply need to update their application to work with the new version.

After September 2014 update Apple TV the radio shows error loading station?

Been listening to music for a year using the Apple TV Radio with no problems at all. At the same time I had the screen saver set to kick after 2 minutes with no problems or interference with the radio program.
Now I've competed the Apple TV update, on 20 September 2014, and reset everything required, I.e., iTunes and billing info. Successfully downloaded a new movie (Godzilla 2014) & my photo stream and everything works fine. Except the station I've been listening to the past year plays for about 5 to 10 minutes then stops - I get the message on the screen that informs me 'content not available at this time, try again later'. So, if I go back out and come right back to that radio station it works fine for another 5 to 10 minutes - then that error message returns. Help !

Got tired, laid down in my bedroom, turned on AppleTV Radio, clicked on my favorite station and it played for 6 hours straight !!!! As luck would have it, the Apple TV in my bedroom was still running software version 6.2 - I had forgotten to upgrade to 7.0 - and will not until Apple fixes this issue or tells us the reason for 'radio' not working with 7.0.

Apple tv (2nd gen) reset itself after playing one song

Invited friends over and the apple tv failed me.
When connected to my home shared iTunes library, the apple tv will play the first song and at the end the apple tv will go to reset itself or get disconnected from the network.
Then I tried to play the music using the iTunes form the iMac but using AirPlay via the apple tv. The same problem, the apple tv will no play after the first song, and reset itself. However the iTunes in the iMac continued playing the next song.
I was lucky the I had a airport express. So I moved it to replace the apple tv and connect Otto the speakers. I Mac played non stop via the airport express with no issues.
Any ideas what to do?

Have you unplugged AppleTV from the mains and restarted/re-tried.
I doubt the software is bug free and sometimes unplugging power gets rid of spurious glitches.
If the problem persists, there are a couple of possibilities apart from AppleTV including issues with your iTunes library/artwork or individual songs being corrupted that iTunes itself may handle better and more gracefully than the iOS device.
Consider creating a new itunes library (hold alt when opening iTunes to create new/switch) and test with that (even under a different user account).

Do movies/TV shows play ok? If they do it's unlikely it's a network issue of some kind.
Also check that the iMac isn't going to sleep after a few mins causing AppleTV to hang as it can't find the song.

AppleTV 2: to hear internet radio stations which are not in the list

I have an AppleTV 2 and I like to hear internet radio stations which are not listed in default list.
Is there any possibility to enter the URL of an internet radio stream manually on AppleTV like in iTunes?

You can not enter the URL into the Radio app on the ATV. You can enter it into iTunes then use AirPlay to send the audio to the ATV. You can also use internet radio apps on iPads, touch and iPhones to AirPlay on the ATV as well. I use TuneIn Radio which doesn't let you enter URLs but it has pretty much every radio and podcast feed under the sun.

Itunes hangs during radio streaming and has to be forced quit

Itunes plays radio streams ok for a while, but eventually the music stops. Pressing stop to restart the url doesnt work, the whole of itunes becomes frozen and unresponsive and needs to be force quit everytime.
Its very frustrating as when you restart itunes it needs to then check the whole library.
Playback is fine for all hard drive content. Happens on both ethernet and airport connection.
Cant seem to find other people having the same kind of issue.
Have reinstalled itunes several time to no avail.
Any ideas?

I think I have the same problem and I am pretty sure I can give a recipe for replicating it: listen to any radio stream; when the stream gets interrupted for buffering (if you have multiple windows open, you probably won't notice the little dialog box popping), press the "PLAY" key on your keyboard. Voilà. iTunes hanged.
I've submitted countless bug/crash reports on OS 10.5 and OS 10.6. Something changed in Lion (10.7) in that even though iTunes still *has* to be force-quit, it doesn't count it as a crash and so there's no prompt to submit a report.
Frankly, I am kind of amazed that this years-old bug which probably affects just about everyone listening to streams is not fixed already.

AppleTV tries to connect to internet radio while playing music from my Ipad via AirPlay

As the title says..
When I play music from my Ipad mini via AirPlay, the sound drops every ten to fifteen seconds.
On the TV-screen it shows the info about the band, song etc, but when it drops I get a box with "internet radio" written inside, before the sound comes back, and everything is normal again. Very annoying to have the sound cutting like that multiple times during a song..
AppleTV (gen 3) is wireless connected to a Airport Extreme, and with HDMI-cable to a surround reciever.
The Ipad and AppleTV have the lates updates (IOS 8.0).
Tries with a 4S with the IOS 7.1.2 version, but it's the same story with that..
