AppleTV + Radio !!PLEASE!!

I hope Apple read these forum posts, and I hope other people will support this posting by answering the following question:
Would you like Internet Radio on your AppleTV?
I'd also appreciate it if someone could tell me when this will happen (if ever) and what the stickingpoint is. Come on Apple - don't make me buy another Roku Soundbridge! I'm so annoyed that I gave away my Internet-Radio-Streaming-Roku-M1000 for an AppleTV that DENIES Internet Radio. What is with that??
Just to re-iterate, please can all of you reading this show your support by posting a reply to this message. Many many thanks!!
Julie

I agree - the ability to stream radio through my home stereo would be ideal. iTunes has a radio section, and the musical variety provided by iTunes is far greater than the limited selection of generic stations on my local airwaves. If I can stream radio from iTunes to an airport express, why not through the apple TV to my stereo.
As for the argument that it would eat into sales, I can tell you this much: since I have started listening to KRCW and KEXP (both listed in the radio section of iTunes) I have been downloading more music - I hear something I find interesting, look it up on the station's web site & if I like what I hear, buy it.
My best guess is it might have something to do with the odious RIAA; they are currently attacking any type of media distrubtion that they to not firmly control, saying everything else opens up the doors to rampant 'piracy'.
Here is a great little tip BTW: You can also go to a particular station's website, localize the address of the stream, then create a playlist that points to the website & stream the music through iTunes.

  • Radio: "Please log in to continue listening..." But how?

    Hi all,
I tried to activate a radio station on iTunes (specifically, the 'Seasons and Celebrations' station under 'Eclectic'), but when I clicked on the link I heard a 'bing', then a voice said, "65. Please log in with your Live365 account to continue listening..."
Does anyone know how one 'logs in' to a iTunes stream? I can't find any way to do it. I registered with Live365.com and am logged in on the Internet, but there aren't any instructions on how to get iTunes to play the station. It just keeps asking me to log in.
    Thanks for any help!

  • ITunes will not recognize AppleTV -- help please.

Hello. I have AppleTV (the older one, the bigger silver one). I have a video in my iTunes library that I want to transfer to my AppleTV so that I can watch the video on my television. The problem is, AppleTV isn't showing up under "Devices" on the left side of the iTunes screen. This is where it always used to be when I used it before, but I haven't used it in a few months, and I now I can't get iTunes to show my AppleTV on the left side of the screen, so I have no way to transfer the video. Can anyone please help me figure out why iTunes won't show AppleTV, and how I can get it to do so? Thanks very much.

Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • Two users, one AppleTV. Please help.

I'm thinking about getting an AppleTV for THE device to play back our media. So this would mean our movies, music and maybe occasionally pictures. There are two users in my household: me and my wife. We have one computer, A MacBook Pro (although the wife might get a laptop of her own sometime in the future). I also have a Mac Mini that I have been planning to turn in to a server.
Now, both me and my wife have our own iTunes-libraries on the MBP. How could we make that content available to the AppleTV? There are few options:
    a) We stream the content from the laptop. Easy solution, but I do not want this. I want to be able to access the content all the time, even if the laptop is sleeping. Also, I would like to move the iTunes-library off the laptop in order to save HD-space.
    b) We sync the content from the laptop. Easy, but the problem is that only one user can sync. So if I synced my content to AppleTV, my wife could not sync her content, so we are back at option A, which is not suitable.
    c) We combine the two libraries in to one, copy them to the server that runs iTunes, and we stream the content from there to the laptop and to the AppleTV (or we could sync it to the AppleTV as well). The library could be split in to playlists that would list each users songs for example, so my wifes Harry Belafonte-songs don't get mixed up with my Manowar-songs . Now, this sounds like the best solution. But how could I or my wife add content? The laptop would be used to buy music from iTunes, as well as ripping CD and DVD's, and that content needs to be added to the iTunes-library that is running on the server. How to do that?
    d) We combine the iTunes-libraries in to one (with playlists separating the songs according to the user) and put it on a network-volume on the server. Now, this seems like a good solution as well, but... If my wife ever gets a computer of her own (instead of we using one shared computer), what would happen if she decided to access that content on her computer while I was accessing it on mine? Of course I could just wirelessly share the library with her computer, but then she couldn't add her purchased songs to the common library, and they therefore wouldn't be playable on the AppleTV.
I don't think my situation is that uncommon, so I would be interested in knowing how to solve it.

This actually seems like a viable solution. If my wife buys or rips some music, I don't have urgent need to listen to it, and if I do, I can always import the songs to my library. And I'm quite certain that my wife is not interested in my content, but if she is, I could always teach her how to import my content to her library.
One loose end that remains is that how we will get that various content to the AppleTV. Of course, I could manually sync the content to it. But if my wife buys content, how could she make it available to AppleTV? While streaming would work, I don't like the idea of AppleTV being dependant on the laptop in order to work properly. What would happen is that she buys content, I then add that content to my iTunes-library from where I then sync it to AppleTV. Or she streams her library to AppleTV, but she couldn't access that content if the laptop was sleeping.
I asked this same question in another Mac-forum and I received a suggestion where the server would stream the content. Adding purchased content to the server-iTunes would be handled by a Folder Action that would automatically import any added file to that folder to the iTunes-library. So if my wife bought a song, she would then copy that song to certain network-folder, where it would be automatically imported to the server-iTunes for streaming. And same thing would happen in my case. We could still have separate libraries for each user, for iPod-syncing and so forth. So it would basically be a three-way iTunes-setup, with three different iTunes's (mine, wifes and the server-iTunes) using same folder and files, but each having separate libraries. My wife's library would contain just her content, my library would contain just my content, and the server-iTunes would contain all content that would then be streamed to AppleTV.
Does any of this make any sense :)?

  • ATTN APPLE! IPOD Nano Radio...AM RADIO PLEASE!

Yes, I know...it is a music player. But the ability for me to listen to my AM local news and talk radio programs would be the thing that would get me to upgrade from my current 2nd Gen Nano to a new 5th Gen Nano. I'll never use video...the Pedometer might be nice for walking but I can live without it...but if I can get my talk stations AND my music, you'll get my credit card in a split second.

  • AppleTV radio hangs up frecuently

When I listen a station in AppleTV it frequently hangs up, when it happens I need to chose again the station in the menu. If I play the same station in AppleTV but from iTunes or iPhone with airplay, it does not freeze. What's happening?

Thank you for your comments, they are indeed helpful, particularly to others with your equipment.
However it should also be noted that checking network security settings has been part of the advice given by many here for the particular problem you encountered (tv not showing up in itunes), the problem of course is that security settings vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and help with specific equipment is often beyond those providing help and is often down to the individual to understand the various functions and settings of their own equipment.
Would you consider providing me permission to add your observations to my own help pages.

  • Optimising video for itunes and appletv - Help please!

I'm trying to understand the how itunes handles video and how it is optimised for different devices.
If i've attached my iphone and itunes syncs over a video, does it automatically optimise the version being sync on the the iphone.
I've noticed there are two options when converting a video, convert for ipod and convert for appletv.
Is there any difference between the two?
Also. I seem to remember a statement form apple saying that any movies/videos purchased or rented over appletv would be a higher quality than those bought on a mac or iphone/ipodtouch. Is this true.
Really i'm looking to understand how video works between a mac, apple tv and a iphone/ipodtouch and does it make any difference to the quality of the video which source i buy it from?
    Thanks

    HI Matthew,
I don't have the answer to your question directly but MacWorld has great information on just what you are searching for: http://www.macworld.com/ I have a subscription to the magazine and read it front and back and they always have information on just what you are trying to find. There's blogs on their site too. http://www.macworld.com/
The video would be QuickTime format, iPod would be MP3. Go here for info:

  • Can't unlock new History App, A&E App on AppleTV.  Please fix this Apple!!

Activated it successfully using my valid Directv account.
However, after it says Success it does nothing. Does not unlock all of the content on the new History Channel App on Apple TV.
The same applies for the A&E and Lifetime Apps recently added.
Come on Apple.  Fix this Please ASAP!!!!!
Stop pointing the finger and fix
With Amazon Prime Fire Tv just release with HBO GO included, now isn't the time to be screwing things up....

Whoever the responsible party is, it's Apple's hardware and Apple rolled out the apps to its device. By making others aware of the issue, it gives Apple a way to see that it's real, and not just an isolated incident when someone contacts Apple Support. I hope Apple will take the lead in resolving the problem, even if the fault does lie with the service providers.

  • Recently during their fund drive, Michigan Radio announced that users of the radio otion on Apple TV would need to go to the iTunes store to get a free app for Michigan Radio's new bandwidth.  I cannot find the app and there are now many NPR stations that

I enjoyed many News/Talk Radio options, including NPR stations around the country, on my Apple TV until recently.  Recently during their fund drive Michigan Radio announced that their bandwidth was changing and AppleTv users would have to go to the itunes store to get the free app enabling NPR.  Can't find the free app or anything about apps for AppleTV.  Please help.  Also, is there an easy way to get audiobooks to play on iphone4s?

There are no apps specifically for Apple TV. You just go to the app store and download the app to your IOS device and use airplay to stream to Apple TV.

  • Another Bug In iTunes Radio

In the screenshot above, I was listening to iTunes Radio for two hours or so until a song came up and I got this error message. I was reading the forums here and it seems to indicate to me that there are a LOT of people who are having these issues and bugs with this new iTunes Radio feature. ***!!!??? If I continue to have problems with this I am going to stop using it UNTIL the bugs are FIXED!!! This is really P***ING ME OFF NOW!!! This is like the third or fourth bug I have run into here!!!

I am going to stop using it UNTIL the bugs are FIXED!!!
And then you will start using it again?  Tough customer!
Anyway, being a new service, iTunes radio is still a bit buggy.  If you would prefer a more established radio streaming service, use Pandora.  Or if you wish to contribute to the improvement of iTunes Radio, please advise Apple of any issues you encounter by using the iTunes Feedback page.

  • After September 2014 update Apple TV the radio shows error loading station?

Been listening to music for a year using the Apple TV Radio with no problems at all. At the same time I had the screen saver set to kick after 2 minutes with no problems or interference with the radio program.
Now I've competed the Apple TV update, on 20 September 2014, and reset everything required, I.e., iTunes and billing info. Successfully downloaded a new movie (Godzilla 2014) & my photo stream and everything works fine. Except the station I've been listening to the past year plays for about 5 to 10 minutes then stops - I get the message on the screen that informs me 'content not available at this time, try again later'. So, if I go back out and come right back to that radio station it works fine for another 5 to 10 minutes - then that error message returns. Help !

Got tired, laid down in my bedroom, turned on AppleTV Radio, clicked on my favorite station and it played for 6 hours straight !!!! As luck would have it, the Apple TV in my bedroom was still running software version 6.2 - I had forgotten to upgrade to 7.0 - and will not until Apple fixes this issue or tells us the reason for 'radio' not working with 7.0.

  • Bluetooth not working with Windows 7

I have a Lenovo t61 that I installed Windows 7 on.  The bluetooth looks like it's all loaded, updated and operating normally.  However it never shows any bluetooth device after searching.  This includes several cell phones, mouse and key boards.  My other T40 with XP sees all these devices and connects with no problem.  This has an internal Broadcom BCm2045B.  I have been researching and tried every driver I could find.  The Broadcom update program (SetupBtwDownloadSE) stops and says it can update the hardware.  I have the Windows Mobile loaded to take care of the 'other bluetooth devices'.
I spent a couple of hours with the MS tech and he found no fix saying it's a Lenovo driver problem. I am out of warranty so Lenovo won't talk to me.  After 2 weeks I have tried all the easy stuff... the bluetooth is on.  It is set to allow bluetooth devices. Lenovo and MS say there are no updates to be had. The BIOS is up to date.  I tried at least 40 different drivers.
I am going to get an external dongle but I hate to think this beat me - us.
If anybody has anything that is not a standard press fn5 to turn on the radio please let me know.
    Thanks!
    Solved!

    Hello,
Have you tried using the Fn+F5 key combination to toggle the Bluetooth hardware off and then on again via the Wireless Radio screen?  I have found sometimes that doing so sometimes fixes problems with the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules not recognizing other devices/networks.

  • Photo Stream is not "synced" correctly with iPhoto

I have approximately 900  photos in IPhoto but only show 300  photos in Photo Stream. how do I "sync" this? Ultimately, what I am looking to do is have my entire library, all libraries visible to AppleTV. Please assist. Thx

Cesar, see this support article:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3989
(the paragraph on: "I see different photos in My Photo Stream on each of my devices")
I see different photos in My Photo Stream on each of my devices.
Your device will keep up to 1000 photos, even if they are older than 30 days. Photos older than 30 days are removed from the iCloud server, so all devices may not have the same photos, depending on when you enabled My Photo Stream.
If you prefer to have only the most current photos in My Photo Stream on each of your devices, and delete the older photos:
If there are any photos in My Photo Stream that you want to keep, save them to your Camera Roll, then back up your Camera Roll and other data using iCloud or iTunes.
Turn My Photo Stream off in Settings > iCloud > Photos (on a device using iOS 6, go to Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream). Confirm that you wish to Delete Photos.
Turn My Photo Stream back on. iCloud will automatically push your stored photos to your device.
Repeat these steps for each device.
